  1. Hey MGS members! My name is Adam, I am a 31 year old male. I am 6’3” and 243lbs. For reference, I played 19.5 years of football including college and a brief stint in the IFL. I’m built like a brick house with a whole bunch of junk in the trunk. Why is that important? Because I am testing Galway Bay Rain Gear. I can imagine I’m not the only dude on here that has trouble finding pants that fit due to the size of my thighs/booty. More to come on that in a bit. I am a WA resident living North of Seattle. I have been golfing for two years now. I started when I left my previous employer and was forced to sit out six months due to my non-compete agreement. Six months, full pay, no work…might as well find something new to do! Golf was it…took a few lessons, played a few rounds, got a few pars, a couple birdies and I was fully hooked! I started 2018 with a 23 handicap and I am currently sitting at 13.5. I played 42 rounds of golf last year and currently have 17 rounds in 2019. I play a lot of Winter golf and in the PNW, that means soggy/wet conditions both in the ground and coming from the sky! My current rain set-up was a $110 Nike jacket/pant set from RockBottomGolf.com. I looked high and low and couldn’t bring myself to spend $150-200 on just a pair of pants. So, once I found the Nike Hypershield at that price, I snatched it up. I got XXL in both the jacket and pants to ensure they fit over my golf clothes. The pants were a bit too long and look like MC Hammer pants, but they get the job done. My only complaint is that neither the jacket nor the pants breathe well. As someone who walks every round, I sweat A LOT, even in the cold temps. So wearing rain gear that breathes as well as a trash bag is a bad look/feel by the end of the round. Upon receiving the Galway Bay Unlined Pants and Jacket, I was very pleased by the packaging that the set arrived in. A vivid teal box with a raised texture that resembles the look of rain drop on the outside. The product was sealed in plastic zip top poly bags. The quality of the product is leagues beyond the Nike gear I have been using. The material feel definitely provides a more high-end fabric experience. The seam tape along the jacket pockets are nice to ensure no water leakage. As I described earlier, my booty and thighs make me tend to order a larger waist size in pants to ensure they aren’t too tight. My jeans and golf pants are 38x34 but my actual waist is a 36. I ordered the pants in a 38x32 as you don’t need to layer them, but the pockets were screaming for help with how tight it was across my back side. Galway was quick to send me a 40x32 and that size fits very well. I will have to wear a belt cinched pretty tight to snug up the waist. The jacket is a XXL to ensure it fits over my silver back gorilla-sized shoulders. The jacket fits very well but just barely goes over my belt line. I can say that I have started wearing the jacket as a normal rain coat and it does a great job. Not just on the course but even around town. The first thing my wife asked when I put it on was, “when will you be riding your Harley Davidson?”…she’s got jokes! Unfortunately, we haven’t had too much rain since I have received the pants. When Spring comes, we will definitely get our fair share and I can’t wait to put these pants to good use. I can promise it won’t just be on the course but to see how else I test them, well…you’ll just have to stick around to see!

  2. Introduction: First of all let me say how excited I am for the opportunity to review the Galway Bay rain gear! A little about me, I’m in my early 50’s, but didn’t pick up the game until after college and over the last 25 years have played resort, country club and muni golf all over the country. I currently reside in the southeast & play to an 18 HCP. Shoulder and elbow injuries suffered over the last few years have limited my ability to get out consistently. Healthy for the first time in many years, I’m really looking forward to this golf season and getting my index back down. While golf is my main hobby I also enjoy motorcycling and bikers have a saying “If you don’t ride in the rain, you don’t ride!” It’s the same with golfing in the southeast, where we have daily pop-up showers that turn into torrential down pours during the summer-so if you don’t golf in the rain, you don’t golf! I’ve always wanted a coordinated rain suit, but never invested in one, instead keeping a pair of nylon pants from an old tracksuit in my bag and paired it with a pullover windbreaker. Suit Selection & Sizing: I had my wife take all the measurements suggested by Galway Bay on their fitting chart, for reference I’m 5’10”, 175 lbs. Selecting the unlined pants was pretty easy I just took my pants size and added 2” to the waist so they would easily slide over golf slacks and used my true inseam size. The jacket was a little tricky, as I have a very wide back which bumps my chest measurement from medium to a large, but I have narrow shoulders and a thin waist. Their literature suggested jump up one size if unsure on the jacket so I selected the large lined jacket. I liked the look of the all black suit with aqua blue accents so I sent my selection and sizes to the company. Galway Bay responded to my e-mail immediately and I had my rain gear the very next day! It help’s to live approximately 2 hours from the company! The original review was supposed to be for unlined pants & a lined jacket. Unfortunately, they don’t have a lined jacket so I was ecstatic when Galway Bay sent me a base layer vest as well! They sent me a medium vest informing me that they run a little large. So far customer service is exceeding expectations!!! First Impressions: The packaging is first rate with a box inside a box holding my hand selected rain jacket! The box has nice branding with the Galway Bay logo with the tag line “Never Quit” I’m hard to fit and rarely do all the clothes I buy online ever work out, but the custom sizing chart appears to be quite accurate. I’m glad I went one size larger on the jacket, as swinging a club with it on proved the medium would have been too restrictive. The pants fit well, both in the waist & inseam, and were easy to pull on & off over my jeans and with a belt they can be worn sans pants. The vest also fits well and is very comfortable. The material for the jacket & pants is lightweight & comfortable yet appears very rugged. The zippers all have pulls so if you are wearing rain gloves you can easily get into the pockets. That being said, the zippers were quite tight to pull open, not sure if that’s a function of the weatherproofing or just new zippers that will take a while to loosen up. The vest uses totally different materials and is more of a base layer than rain gear. It has two interior pockets, which are great for storing your phone & wallet. I would have actually liked to see an interior pocket or two on the jacket for warmer days when the vest is not an option. Galway Bay claims their rain suites are 100% waterproof and 100% breathable fabrics that won’t leave you sweaty & stinky like other rain gear. They also claim their jackets and pants are tailored to be as comfortable to wear in the rain as they are in the sunshine. Looking forward to putting those claims to the test over the next few rounds and practice sessions. I can honestly say I have never before wished for rain on days I’ve had a tee time, until NOW! Stay tuned!

  3. Oh man, I'm really hoping somebody on the review team has the guts to take video walking their Galway Bay gear through the car wash! Sounds like a job for the silver backed gorilla to me. Also, very nice Stage 1.

  4. Week 7 is in the books. Looks like the snake pit bit our players as the points across the board were down. For the weekly update, I added a column, modified one, and rechecked my math in some others. Here's the summary for week 7: This week, @TSauer took home the prize as the highest point total of the week coming in with 172. The first time this season the top score was below the 200 mark @Camcmart was on the losing end of the slimmest margin this week to @yungkory but there were tight match ups across the entire league. 8 games were decided by 10 points or less. Wowza! @GolfSpy MPR steadied his way into the low winner of the week whereas yours truly took the bad beat for the second straight week. Woe is me! New category! @HardcoreLooper had the good sense to start Casey whereas @cnosil left him AND Glover on the bench . Be sure to check back to the rest of the geniuses and shaming history. Much more winners on the bench than I expected. I'm also surprised that no Free Agents have won either. The blind squirrel found a nut as you guys in Truth finally outscored Digest to break a 5-week winning streak. Nice job guys (slow clap) Here we go to week 8 and the Corales Puntacana. Before the question comes up, NO Fantrax does not have support for Match Play. I asked about this last year and they said they'd look into it. Let's enjoy a random week in an opposite field event. Should be some interesting ownership decision making....hit the waiver wire to ensure a full roster or roll the dice with a slim team??? Edit: Another interesting observation is that none of the top points-getters had the winner of the event. Definitely something to be said for fielding a FULL quality lineup.

    How'd you play?

Played Arcadia Municipal today. One of the better courses for me to play. Something like 5800 yards and WIDE open. @fozcycle and @MattF will probably have a hard time believing it after Friday's debacle, but pulled off a 91, with FIVE 3 putts and only 1 penalty (We won't talk about the quad on a 160 yard par 3.) Pulled off two birdies on par 5's. I hadn't had a birdie in who knows how long. Smoked a drive on 13 (only about 475 par 5, probably playing 460), left about 190. Rolled a 5 iron onto the green and left about 10 feet. Missed the eagle putt by about 3 inches. Pushed my drive a little left on 15 (490 par 5), hit a solid 3h just short and right of the green. Went a little long on the chip and ran it across the green one onto the fringe, then rolled it in through a foot of fringe about 6 feet down a little slope for 4. Played my Ping i20's with stiff CFS shafts today, and I think they may stay in the bag for awhile. Did a lot more chipping around the green with my 9 iron, and that really helped as well.

  6. First 18 of the season today, but it's not golf yet. Too many lost balls to plugging. I had one bird, a chip in, and nothing worse than bogey. That's a solid start for a 5 month layoff Sent from my SM-G935P using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  7. Greetings! My name is Doug, aka Sluggo42, and I am addicted to golf. Started flogging at the tender age of 8, pretty much the same time some floppy haired kids from England took the world by storm. So in dog years, that means I’ve been swinging the stix for around 55 years... woof... I grew up in Washington state, just north of Seattle where it always rains. Decided to come to California so I could golf, fish, and rock endlessly, because it never rains here. Turns out it does rain here, but much less often than it does in Seattle. The Los Angeles/Santa Barbara stretch is pretty well as nice an area as a person could ever find to live, although it’s expensive to live here. I never have been a competitive golfer which is strange as I was always a deeply competitive ball player. But I’m starting to meet some of the guys at the new club, and I intend to start playing in some of their “skins” games soon. I love this game just as I love every other game I play. I was blessed to have been born with good physical coordination, and have always been a good player at most everything. Executing a good swing, making a solid contact, and knocking the little white ball to an area of your choosing, just feels good. Managing these shots throughout the entire round and putting a decent score on a track is a very satisfying experience, a feeling that never gets old. Living here in “Gods Country” has been called the best climate, year round, in the world. I think it’s an average temp of 71°, with super low humidity. I can see the ocean from a few holes, as well as mountains on the other side. We’re finally getting a real winter after what seems like a 10 year drought, and it’s nice to see the rains again. Although as much as we need the rain to refill our reservoirs, I must admit I would like to see the sun again. With that Drought, it’s not like I had to suffer through many rainy golf sessions of late, so my current golf gear really consisted of an old “Snake-Eyes” pullover. The SnakeEyes pullover is designed for golfing, but it doesn’t really allow a swing with zero restrictions like the new advanced rain gear provides. The main problem in my eyes with my current rain gear is that they don’t “breathe”. It seems to turn into a sauna with hardly any activity, and that’s just not comfortable. I’ve had more “wet” rounds in the last few months than the previous 10 years combined. Since it appears the drought is over, the rains are steady, week after week, so I’ve had to play in wet conditions every week for what seems like a few months in a row now. With the lack of any decent rain gear, my tolerances are pretty low for playing when soaking wet. Also being an “older” gentleman, I also cannot take silly chances with getting soaked and cold for extensive periods, because getting pneumonia at my age can be a fatal mistake. When I go bass fishing in the rain, I’m wearing serious heavy rain gear that’s also insulated, with layers for warmth. So, I’m not bothered by that in the least. I’ve added 4 strokes on my handicap in the last two months due to “wet golf”. Also a new track, and new clubs can be included in the calculation, but the wet track has definately contributed to a few extra strokes. A long track plays even longer without any roll. The worst rain I ever played in was probably 2 years ago while playing a few rounds while my wife was a work seminar. I was in Riverside, California, and had been planning of this trip for a few months. I had to find some random golf shop to find that pullover rain jacket, and just went for it, verses sitting in some dumpy hotel or a bar for the day. Fortunately there were numerous large trees that I could park under during the heavier downpours, and the cart was pretty good shelter too. But, by the end of the second round, I was pretty well soaked to the bone. Some people would call that “stubborn stupid”. I would have to concur... So needless to say, I was pretty happy when this guy rolled up... I was actually expecting a larger box, especially as it was a pants and jacket combo, but it’s thin and light, so no problem. Ill leave you with a few teaser photos until the actual product review, which will be quite interesting, especially if you’re needing some rain gear... So for now, cheers!

  8. Introduction First, I would like to say thank you to MyGolfSpy for the opportunity to test the Galway Bay rain gear. I am a very avid golfer and golf is a part of my family. I started golfing at the age of 3 with my father at our little public course in Pennsylvania. From there I took to the game and decided I wanted to play golf over baseball and basketball, this was not a bad decision being 5'10”, slow and right handed. As I got into high school, I played more competitive golf and was able to play well enough to earn a scholarship to play golf at St. Bonaventure University. I played all 4 years in the starting 5 and I still have some records on the books at SBU (Most wins 5 & lowest stroke average for a season 73.0) I am now living in the Champaign, IL area with my wife and two children. We belong to a local club and we all golf. I have been fortunate enough to one, have a family that likes to golf and two, have a job that lets me get out and practice. With that I have been able to keep my handicap down where I like it and I am currently at a +3.2. Being in the Midwest we have wet springs followed by very hot and humid summers. We usually get a lot of storms from May through June and we will almost for sure have at least 2 tournaments that get rain, so testing out this rain gear in competition will happen. Rain Gear I am currently using FootJoy rain gear. I have a vest, coat and pants. My vest I have had since college, and the coat and pants are about five years old. I have stuck with FootJoy because I know it will last and protect me in the elements. I play in poor weather at least 5 times a year in tournaments. Our club championship the last 2 years has been affected by weather each of the last 2 years. I like playing in foul weather as this eliminates a lot of competition. In poor weather, you can expect to lose 2-3 shots a round if you let it get in your head. If I can keep my grips and hands dry then I fell I have a leg up. The worst weather I have ever played in was in 2005 at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Wind, rain and snow at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, RI. The tournament was cut to 27 holes and it was just not fun. First Impressions I am always skeptical of change. No difference here. I got the package last week and it was very nicely packed. No damage and a very sturdy box. Upon opening, I was pleased to see the coat nicely packaged and the pants in their own box. Immediately I could tell by feeling the coat (size L) that it will protect you from the rain. I put the coat on and it fit just as I had hoped it would. Not tight, not too loose. You can make a good swing in this and that is key. The pants (32 X 30) are the same material and fit very nice. I got the un-lined pants and they fit great. I do not like to layer my pants and with these, you cannot do that. A great fit indeed. I chose the black and blue combination of pants and coat. Black being my favorite color I never considered the other options. I have gotten one round of golf in with the pants and one practice session with the coat. I will be testing these out more and more each week and I might even have a few tricks up my sleeve once we get some warmer weather. I can tell you it is very easy to swing in the coat. The pants from my first round were warm. I could tell I was sweating and it was only 52* out. I am glad I got the unlined version. And the pockets on the pants are perfect. They are deep, they are a different material, wet hands will not stick in them. We will put this rain gear to the test.

    How'd you play?

I was able to sneak away for 9 holes on Saturday. I had to find a babysitter while my wife was working and they only had a couple hours so hence I only played 9. One of the best days we've had so far, about 55* sunny and little to no wind. I struck the ball pretty well, but could not putt to save my life. With the greens being longer and not rolling that smooth, I had a lot of difficulty getting the speed right. The only tees available were the white, so it only played 3200 yards. I was able to hit both par 5's in two, but only came away with one birdie. As you can see below I hit the ball well and hit a lot of greens, but putted atrociously. I'm trying not to get down because much of that was because I did not hit any practice putts and the green speed was different from hole to hole with plenty of bumps along the way. Stats Round score - 37 Fairways - 3/7 (2 additional just off fairway and no tee shot hurt me) Greens - 8/9 Putts - 20!!!! (Two 3 putts and the rest 2 putts)

Off to a great start at 1 over par through #7 then the wheels fell off and rolled aimlessly down the fairway into the water and never came back. Doubles, triple, OB, chunk, shank, putter goes south....sigh .... could only muster 2 pars on the back nine. Not a pretty day.

So I’ve been really thinking long and hard about the cobra connect challenge testing. After 4-5 days of deliberation I have decided to throw my hat in the ring. I was hesitant not because I don’t think I can do it, but, I don’t have any social media presence. So after applying I downloaded twitter and started to set my account up, well wouldn’t you know it, it seems I set an account up back in 2012!! Who knew . Sub70 golf

Dateline - June 2018 I have played various forms of Wilson blades for 30 years now. My beloved 1989 Fluid Feel irons are still in a bag ready to go on a moments notice, but most recently I was bagging the FG-100's. Unfortunately, two of them were going to need replacing to make the set last another season, so I started looking at options. As I watched for what was next, the Wilson Proto images began to roll out, I had my next set of irons in my sights. Unfortunately, I was told the irons would be about $1200-1300 at retail and quickly began to reassess my needs. I continued shopping until October when I hit the JPX 900 Forged irons while trying on shoes at my local store. Now, instead of waiting for the next Wilson blade to hit, I made a drastic change to "fix" a fault and go with the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged irons and just haven't been happy with them. My search continued for my next "perfect irons". SOMETHING NEW... As the new year started and the Mizuno's only continued to feel OK, I really started looking hard at other options. Even though I don't have an unlimited golf budget, I did want something extremely playable and blade like, but didn't want to go used as some of the player's irons get beat pretty well before they go on the sale block. I started researching some of the smaller brands and found some great reviews on the Sub70 699 irons. Even low handicap players were crooning over the distance gains and the feel of these hollowed body beasts. I messaged Sub70 on social media and asked about them. Jason messaged me back almost instantly. He gave me a quick rundown of their irons and how the 639CB would be a better match for what I needed. Then, he mentioned the MB model and how it could be even better for me. After a bit of chatting back and forth, he had me give him my phone number and he called me - on a Saturday afternoon! What service! THIS went well beyond what I expected in the way of customer service and it only got better from there. Jason said to send over my specs and he would make up a demo club for me to hit and get it out to me. The next day I went down and double checked specs and sent them off. Within an hour, another email back confirming the specs and adjustments and everything was rolling. ORDERED... My shipping notification from UPS was sent out a few days later and after an AGONIZING few days, the black "Sub 70 Golf" box arrived at the shop and I began to drool. Finally the time to clock out arrived and I cracked open the box. The iron was in a "prototype finish" so not the final one, but I can honestly say, I hadn't seen an iron this beautiful since I first set eyes on those 1989 Fluid Feels at the driving range when I was 14 years old. Of course, falling for the looks of a club is one thing, but could it possibly match up to the playability of my beloved Wilson blades or would it feel squishy like most of the new "forged" offerings do? The range would have to wait until tomorrow. OPENING THE BOX... I rolled up to the course for a tournament that Saturday morning and "unofficially" unboxed the 639MB. I was still blown away by the looks, and the weighting of the head vs. the KBS Tour 130 shaft. It just felt perfectly balanced. I went with the stock Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvet grip just to keep things simple. The clean lines of the grip flowing to the shaft, then continuing down to the perfectly turned ferrule was a sight to see on it's own. Then the satin-esque finish of the head made the entire package scream PERFECTION. I carefully placed that 7 iron in the bag and headed over to the practice tee. FIRST CONTACT... I had thought my skills as a ball striker had diminished a bit over the years, but from the first ball with the 639MB, I realized that I still had it. Center strike after center strike produced a 165 yard draw dead on target. I then tried a cut fade, 160 and stopped on a dime- WITH RANGE BALLS! I think I'm in love with this iron already. Then I started flighting it - high, low, middle... All with easy success. I swapped out to the Mizuno just to make sure it wasn't my swing for the day - and trust me, the way I played, it wasn't. The Mizuno was good, but not like the Sub70 iron. I then did something that I normally don't try to do with them - hit a few heel and toe shots. Now, when I struck the ball outside the groove area on the toe, I lost a bit of distance, but the club virtually corrected the line of the shot - almost like an old wood did with the old "gear effect". It was incredible to watch and even more fun to experience first hand. Moving to the heel, I didn't get killed with the dead pull left that my older blades gave me. It was a nice straight flight, again with a slight distance loss. Overall, the performance of these is on par with the Muira's, Kyoei and other top blades I've tried over the years - and from what I see online, these are going to cost about 1/3 the price of a custom set of those guys. FINAL THOUGHTS... Ok, I'm going to be honest here and say that this 32° 7 iron should have been shorter than my 31° Mizuno, but it wasn't. Actually, as I looked at the yardages on center hits, the Project X LZ fitted Mizuno flew a bit higher, but was actually 3 yards shorter than the KBS Tour equipped 639MB. After looking up my stock distances again on my 1989 irons, degree vs. degree, my 167 yard 7 iron was at my peak swing, so tattooing shot after shot at 165 on the range is about as good as it gets. I wasn't able to get dispersion numbers yet, but I'm willing to bet I was 5 yards at most at 165 yards - which I will take all day long. Again, being able to flight an iron is probably the most important thing to me - far more important than distance or lofts, and the 639MB was so effortless in this way. I had completely lost that with the Mizuno's as they float the ball into the air and bring it down beautifully on every shot. Hitting the 639's, I remembered how it felt to be in complete control of the ball and it felt amazing. The good news is I'm 100% sold on these irons and the service that Sub 70 gave me... The bad news - I can't get a set of these until summer. Now, for some that play major tournament golf, Sub70 is getting through the approval process for the USGA ASAP. They thought they had submitting the right stuff to start with, but then the USGA needed some additional clubs (like a full set - etc...) to fully approve the irons. Approval will be coming soon so don't stress about that at all. If you have any questions on the 639MB, I'd be happy to answer them and I know Jason and/or Jay from Sub70 are lurking around here with more information than I probably have at this point, but I'll do my best. Also, keep in mind that these are completely custom built for you, in the US and they have been amazing getting me information on them. I can't wait to get my order in as soon as they are available. More to come - summer 2019. PS: Please keep in mind, this is NOT the final finish. They are still tweaking that, but as soon as I get my set, I'll be sure to update everyone with pictures of the final finish of them.

... Wow, that really is a bummer. 79 would have been sweet. I remove the flag if there is any doubt about it leaning or when the flag shadow interferes with my line. In about 80 rounds I have played here in Phoenix I have only seen the flag effect 4 shots out of approx 10,000 putts. 2 were traveling a little too fast but hit dead center and dropped, hard to say if either would have dropped without the pin but I think most likely not. One was moving way too fast and hit dead center but bounced back about 6 inches. The other was also moving too fast and hit the side of the pin and bounced off. Both players swore the pin cost them a stroke but clearly both were traveling too fast to have been holed with the flag out.

  24. Ok, @GolfSpy MPR.. I respectfully think you are wrong. These are not friendly games on Sat afternoon between friends. These are competitions to see who is the best on that course at that given time played for large amounts of money. Winning is Winning. What you are saying is the "participation medal" ideology where we do not keep score and everyone wins.. Which is wrong, we need to teach that you will be rewarded for your hard work and effort not just because you showed up.. Yes,Tony had a great Year But He did not WIN.. Bubba as a whole did not play as well, but he did win 3 times..

  26. Finally got my scramble group out for the first time this season despite the rainy, soggy conditions to start. Turned out nice enough after the first 9 to ditch the jackets after it stopped. So we played a team best-ball, match-play where each of us duffs was paired with our better player at random for 6-holes each and the individual winner would be the one with the most points. This included "bonus" skins for long drive on par 5's and closest to the pin (must be on the green to count). Our better player hit from the tips, myself and his dad hit from the whites and my Niece played from the lady's tees. This format, out of all the ones we've tinkered with seems to be the most fair for all of us. No surprise that our better player won, but was on his tail and only lost the match by 1. Had one of those stupid days where I was comfortable on the practice range & green and couldn't get out of my own way during play... I did sink the only bird of the day though. A 25-footer that was super sweet to see go in

  27. I've hit some bad and wild balls, but most every time when it has happened I've reflected on it and thought to myself I'm certain that bad shot would have existed with the rust and without the training, and thus I felt they are always lying there and waiting........except I felt like instead of being terrible and short it's now still the same amount of "terrible" but closer to target with shorter distance and more options? All in all, I think bad shots are bad shots but having the extra power on tap is far superior to not having it wishing you did. I think of it like, if you can dunk a basketball.....you have the choice to dunk it or lay it up, but obviously you don't HAVE to dunk it........but if you don't have a dunk as option in your tool belt, well you get half the options (or insert other metaphor here). Helps add choices from tee or approaches all around I think. I'm just now starting to get limited play time, Friday was upper 60's, I gps logged distances for as many shots as I could this day, 9 drivers for the day go me an average driving Distance of 284yds this day, and also average 3 wood of 270yds. Just a single day and windy but pleased overall

  28. Will make for an interesting week. I have one player as well. The question for managers will be are you going to build a team to maybe get a win or are you going to potentially throw away this week? It is what makes the game interesting and really determines who is the best season long manager.

  29. @Shankster I owe you (and Seve) a beer. You've told me and shown me the Seve video before and I watched it but didnt interpret it correctly. Your explanation a few posts above made it crystal clear and I went and practiced it today at the chipping green, lovely contact, high and low shots, started to pick a landing spot I was getting that cocky lol no fats or thins. Previously I had the ball too far forward, it looked right of centre but in reality it was well left of centre, no wonder I was thinning and fatting everything. The right heel and face slightly open is key for me. Thanks again

  30. I am on week 4 of the training. I have mentioned before but I think I am seeing better contact and accuracy on shots. That’s not to say I can have a bad day swinging the club (as I did last week testing 5 irons.). I think the bad shots come in when you start trying to swing faster when playing. It is fine to try to swing faster during the training. When playing the faster speeds become ingrained and you don’t try to swing faster, It just happens.

  35. I don’t mind. I’ll talk 100 and in all day. More specifically 30 and in. Just don’t ask me my putting technique or tips. Yikes.

    How'd you play?

Shot a 10-over 45 on the red course at Saskatoon Golf Club outside of Grand Rapids for my first real round of the year. Never played there before, though my brother-in-law holds this course in high esteem. We had absolutely beautiful weather today, wish I could have played more. Hit one fairway all day, and only two greens. Going over my GAME Golf stats, I can count seven strokes I could have cut. Hopefully with a little practice I will get rid of those strokes. Really only hit two bad shots today. Snap-hooked a five iron on hole three that thankfully stayed only a little left of the green. On the only par 5, I chunked my second shot with my 4-iron and only advanced it 35 yards or so. On an interesting note, leaving the pin in cost me one stroke today. I didn't notice the pin was leaning slightly on a three footer on No. 7. Hit a nice putt that would have dropped in the right side. Instead, it brushed the pin and lipped out two inches past the hole.

So I went through another TrueGolfFit fitting yesterday, to get a look at how the 2019 sticks would fit me, and this came up... I'm going to be in Chicago next week and made arrangements to meet owner Jason Hilland for a quick fitting session at their place in Sycamore. Have spoken with Jason a few times and finally got to meet him at the PGA Show in January - very interesting guy. I have a week to get my swing in shape so I don't wind up getting embarrassed. It's been a long, cold, lonely winter....

  39. Relax and don't worry about being a higher handicap player. The only one that will put pressure on your game is you. Play your own game and have fun...men's leagues are typically more about enjoyment than cut-throat gamesmanship.

  40. OK, these are fighting words (And just to clarify, I mean that smiley face very much. I love a good-natured back-and-forth, with all the respect that this board is known for. I want to say that upfront, because I'm going to try a vigorous defense of my unpopular opinion.) I'm certainly not arguing for participation trophies. None of this is about not keeping score and everyone being a winner. And I'll go one beyond you. You say that you should "be rewarded for your hard work and effort not just because you showed up." I don't care about hard work and effort; I'm talking about results. Who is better? I'm making an argument based on merit and performance, not on participation or even hard work (lots of guys work hard and don't perform at the highest level). And what I'm saying is that wins (especially in golf) are an overrated measure of performance. I think the last two months of Rory are a great example of the point I'm trying to make. Rory has been dominating the Tour in strokes gained. He has, by every objective metric, been the very best player on the PGA Tour this year. But until The Players, all he had to show for it was a string of Top 10s. So are we supposed to think that, before The Players, Adam Long and Keith Mitchell were having a better season than Rory because he hadn't gotten a win and they had? Let me give (what I think) is an even clearer example, and I'd love to hear your evaluation of it. Let's imagine a world in which Tiger Woods doesn't exist. In that world, Phil Mickelson was the dominant golfer for the past two decades, racking up (say) a couple dozen more wins than he already has, and another 4 majors. Is Phil in our imaginary non-TW-world a better golfer than the Phil who exists in our world? My argument in this thought experiment is that he is the exact same quality of golfer; however, due to the absence of TW, he is now able to rack up more wins. Therefore, wins in themselves cannot be the sole measure of the quality of the golfer, since wins are (in part) a product of circumstances and not of the quality of the golf being played.

I am absolutely DYING to try a set of the MB's. I bought the 639 CB's and really love them, but, I am more of a blade player than anything. I, for some reason, cannot see your pics, @Waazzupppp but, I would love to!

  44. It's a great question to ask. This past winter has been a complete rebuild of my game, taking it seriously for the first time, so I've been able to build the training into the development of a new swing. As I'm tracking with GAME Golf, I'll be able to give some stats about fairways, etc. as the season wears on. I can tell you that yesterday I didn't hit many fairways, but I was not far from them on the holes that I missed them, either.

    How'd you play?

Been a while since posting into this but here we go: Have struggled getting consistency out of the driver. I went to the range yesterday to fix it. Realized I was standing too close and swinging around my body instead of through the ball. Seemed to help yesterday. I was shooting 96, 94, 104, 105 over the last 4 rounds. Very frustrating but can’t shoot best rounds all the time! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
