He we go, best for last. I couldn’t decide on one “best shot/hole” so I’m going with best hole, and best shot. First up, best hole. #15 at my course is a downhill blind tee shot par 5. It was during my clubs invitational tournament and I hit a great drive (291), 235 to the flag. So here’s the dilemma, do you lay up or go for it? If you miss left it’s hazard, miss right it’s OB, miss short small creek, miss long and you’re in the pines with no chance to save par. I thought to myself “The people at MGS wouldn’t want someone to lay up, time to step up to the plate”. So I pulled out the trusty 4 hybrid and let it rip. I bet I posed for a good minute after I hit, it was that good. Started at the flag and never left, but was it long enough? It was in the air for what seemed like an eternity, but it finally came down, hit the green with one big hop and stopped 6’ below the hole. The whole ride to the green I was getting more and more nervous, I hadn’t made eagle all year, and this would be the most perfect time. When it was my turn to putt, all I had on my mind was “don’t leave it short” I’m glad it hit the hole because it would’ve been 5-6’ past . Dead center, hit the back of the cup and dropped for an eagle 3!! Next up is my favorite, also during that same tournament, best shot Hole #17. Downhill tee shot with an uphill approach shot. Pulled my tee shot way left, get to my ball and wouldn’t you know it, tree hooked . My playing partner said “Better try and save bogey here”. Little did he know I had been working on a shot for just an occasion. I told him “5-1 I make par, 10-1 I make birdie” He said “I’ll give ya 20-1 on birdie”. So I pulled the 7 iron out, took a couple of practice swings and said watch this. I hit a good 50yd hook around a tree 60-70’ uphill. I took off running so I could see, it hit just shot with a big hop forward. I figured it was good, but once I got to the green it was only 4’ from the hole. The whole time I’m laughing at my buddy for taking that bet, and then he said “You still gotta putt it”. After pulling off the shot that I called, I knew there was no way I could miss, and I didn’t!! So there you have it. My best shot and my best hole, in back to back days, during a tournament that won me a hybrid . I did this on the website and not the app. I can’t figure out how to post the pictures where I want them. Sorry I don’t need a bunch of gifs or pics, just a great story, or 2 .

Very strange afternoon on the golf course. For starters, it was 63* in late July after being well above 90* for the past few weeks. I'm certainly not complaining. It was a welcomed change. Just weird! As for the golf, I gutted every fairway off the tee and hit one green in regulation. It was as if I had forgotten how to play an iron shot approach. Nothing out of the center of the clubface. Absolutely frustrating and infuriating. I suppose this is why golf is a four letter word!

Almost........did it: almost played bogey golf on a new to me, tough course (playing from the forward tees) with a lot of elevation changes up and down, several blind shots uphill and downhill, lots of visual distractions, fast and sloping greens, etc etc. Made mostly bogeys plus three pars offset by three doubles but then one round-wrecker 9 (ouch) where I deviated from "the plan" (see Post #61 at top)... Really steep downhill Par 4 (#16), but not a blind shot this time - so, theoretically!, "should be" (ha) an easier hole - but I got a little greedy and swung too hard .. hooked left .. OB... Drop, ball is above the feet so I know it's gonna tend left .. hit it too hard .. hooked left .. OB... Drop, ball is above the feet so I know it's gonna tend left .. hit it too hard .. hookedleft .. greenside bunker.... Awkward stance half in/half out of the bunker got out in one, but ball rolled aaaaallll the way down slope to the very far fringe .. three putt..... Most of the rest of the tee shots were good or playable, most follow-up shots were ok with only a few mis-hits (heavy) tho a few issues with distance control long or short, and putting was mostly pretty good, too. So overall feeling like I actually learned / internalized some good things -- most especially #1: "swing within yourself" and #2: "only hit the shots you know *you* can". Till next time.....

When this part of the challenge was announced I said to myself (and I know it was me, because it was my voice and I was wearing the same underwear) "self, if one of these bastards gets an eagle, that's who you vote for". So then two of you bugger it up and get an eagle. I voted for @robertson153 purely because Bucky is on top of the leader board and robertson needs a boost. @Nunfa0 sorry cuz, but an eagle is an eagle.

My wife and I moved into our house in 2004. It's not very big; just right for the two of us. It was owned by our neighbor next door, and we leased it for a year while we were looking for a house. He had bought it for his mother-in-law, but she passed away before she moved in. After our year lease was top, he asked if we wanted to buy it. At least we wouldn't have to move!! Fast forward 15 years... my wife is selling her business and has a lot of "stuff" stored in her office building. We have to move it, so we were thinking about a bigger house. Last week, we were talking to our neighbor and he is selling his house to his son who lives in AZ. It's big; too big for him now that his wife passed away. He asked us if we are moving; he might want to buy back our house and move into it. How odd is that? He and his son stopped by tonight to look at it. Seems interested, but if he wants it, thence will have to find another place to love and it's a seller's market. Prices are through the roof!!! Maybe we should move elsewhere???

It’s almost a perfect Match for color but more Importantly it’s at a good thickness for a focal length between the iPhone camera and the viewfinder. I am working on something a bit smaller too. ... I use boiling water and just pour it over the ferrule. No chance of melting the ferrule and it works just as well.

Was very excited to get out and play last night... then we saw lightning and heard thunder and the called it right as we were on he tee. So we went to grab some wings and a rolling rock instead. Best round of golf. Also saw someone get a hole in one as i was warming up.

Oh and when deciding who to vote for remember this... I can't offer cheese but if I win the whole challenge there will be a haka

This game... shot an 80 today, but once again, completely different from my last game. Irons were working today due to a massive swing change, that is unpercievable to the human eye of another. And tomorrow will probably be different too.**sigh**

I picked up my 739 irons yesterday and played my first round today. It took a few holes to get used to clubs that were actually made for my height. The clubs were shorter than what I had before and at the start I hit about every other shot a little thin. By the back 9 shots were launching easy and my accuracy was definitely better than what Its been most days this year. I noticed with the 8,9 and PW that the ball was not rolling much past my ball mark on the green. I can’t wait to see how I’m scoring after few more rounds. I’m really glad I took a chance on Sub 70. I think they look pretty sharp too.

Well good afternoon to everyone from here in sunny London, My name is Cam, and I'm part of the PuttOUT team and wanted to see if I could jump into the conversation and directly answer any queries or questions you had, along with following up on what's been touched on so far (I'm also the one who put those little notes in the box so greetings on another platform). From the sounds of things, it looks like the first reaction to the products themselves have been great (woo!), followed by moment from a few testers of shock when checking stroke, alignment and setup. For those concerned, don't worry, from experience we've found this to be a pretty normal part of getting into a proper practice routine, and clearly there's already been some realisations and 'corrections' hopefully leading to improvements! Double whammy. So firstly, a big thank you to MGS, specifically @GolfSpy MPR, @GolfSpy STUDque and @Golfspy_CG2 for asking us to come onboard with the renowned MGS Member Testing. It's truly a privilege. Secondly, a thank you to all the testers themselves (@Kanoito, @HardcoreLooper, @Peaksy68, @tommc23 and @gaussman1) for taking up their time, getting stuck in and offering their opinions and feedback on our first three products - mat, mirror and trainer. Obviously there's a lot that goes into being thorough in testing so I can assure you that we're all very grateful here for your hard work. Thirdly, thank you for all the exceptionally nice comments so far on different aspects of the products. It's fantastic to hear that the small details have not been taken for granted and it makes the toiling over the seemingly insignificant bits worthwhile (when it took us five rounds of prototyping just to get the cardboard tube used inside the mat packaging the way we'd like it, you quickly realise it's the tip of the iceberg). 1. The first thing that came to our attention was the question about the height of the mirror from the ground so let's see if we can offer a little more detail and get a few more thoughts from there: The mirror itself is made up of three individual parts: a back-printed acrylic mirror part (1.5mm), a steel inner plate (1mm), and a spiked rubber outer that encases everything as one (5mm). To put this into perspective, the industry standard putting mirror stands fairly consistently at 3mm (a little less than two stacked quarters). This could have been the goal but we saw it as an unrealistic one when adding two extra layers onto what already exists. It should be noted that it did come up amongst us and we wanted to put our own minds at rest so in prototyping we sent out more than a dozen mirrors to PGA professionals, tour pros and equipment geeks with one of the follow-up questions being: "does the height cause any issues?" Without exception or prompting, the answer was that it wasn't a problem for anyone who uses or has used a mirror before. The only way we believe we could have made the product any thinner would be by glueing it all together instead of creating a casing. However this option would have meant more cost, risk of quality control (imagine trying to perfectly align and ensure the correct gluing of 30,000 three-part mirrors!), but most of all would have meant that inevitably the glue would have become unstuck. We tried to design our mirror to theoretically last forever, with the removable outer casing, it means you can take the product apart, clean it, and put it back together without any faults creeping up over time. 2. The second question that has come up so far is about our mat forming a very small ridge along the central putting line. This is an interesting one but rest assured it has a happy ending. As mentioned, we went through five rounds of prototyping simply for the mat packaging so that's a little precursor of how much care went into making the product itself!: In creating our mat, to start off we looked at what already existed on the market and decided that there were two categories of putting mats: either the absolute top of the line putting mats out there which were very expensive, immoveable and often a rigid, permanent structure; or the more temporary options which were very low-quality, felt cheap and had constant problems (as well as big return and refund rates from retailers). We wanted to be the ones who designed a product that was great quality, discreet and portable, as well as affordable to those who didn't want to spend a huge amount kitting out an at-home studio (I know, it's the goal for us all someday). When it comes to the possibility of a ridge being created through use, we like to use the analogy of the humble tennis ball: when the ball comes out the tube, the fibres are long but compact to the rubber inside the ball. Over a few games, the fibres begin to stand on end and become more 'fluffy', but then over time they become shorted from wear and flattened again with use. This is the same principle we applied to our putting mat: it comes out the tube and the fibres stand on end with complete uniformity. With a bit of rolling the ball down the same line over and over in a practice session, they can begin to lay down only on that one line. Over time as the mat is used more and more, the fibres flatten across the entire surface, creating an even smoother roll all across the putting surface. Where some products wear and deteriorate over time, we've found that this is one that actually gets better with play, and like our putting mirror, will last as long as you want to use it for. (We'd love to claim this bit as our lightbulb/genius/foresight moment, but really it was something we only discovered as we put our prototypes through the testing phase back in 2017 before launch) In the meantime, the solution to any ridges is a nice, quick fix: just rough up the surface and then smooth down the fibres with your hand back to their original state aaaaand we're back! Hopefully this is a nice little hello from us and has answered the two questions that have come up in testing so far, BUT we're here to get the best possible feedback from you to help us do even better going forward. We're doing everything we can to make the best products out there and you've shown incredible support in helping us get to a position where we can keep going and keep creating so when you have a question, just shout because with any luck, we're here for the long run. So how does the guy in last place talk about their "Best Shot" or "Best Hole"? Throughout the challenge, I have had way too many moments where my shots induce this reaction: I have had quite a few shots that have created this reaction: And most of them have created a feeling of: So how about a hole that captured all of these emotions. I present to you: Emotional Roller Coaster Date: June 15, 2019 Course: Metamora Golf & Country Club Hole: 3 Par: 5 Distance: 510yds The hole is a dog leg left, with an island green. From the tee, it looks like this: You want to be in the fairway, and more center right to have a good look at the green, or the landing zone for a layup. Off the tee, I hooked my shot into the trees down the right side. That brought on the feeling of: "Typical." Standing over the ball, in the trees, I had a look to the landing zone short of the start of the water. It was about 130 yds to the edge of the water, and I wanted to punch the ball about 100yds, and give myself room for potential run out that wouldn't roll into the water. Well, I promptly duffed my punch shot and it only went 80yds with barely any roll out. Cue the "ALL IS WELL" internal reactions. I was left with a 3rd shot that needed to carry 160yds to clear the water, but to have a chance of being on the green needed to carry 170 yds. Here's an overhead shot of the green from the courses website: And here's my picture of the green from the backside: As you can see, there is only one place to miss short, and that's on the peninsula jutting out, and there is no real safe place to miss left, right, or long. Standing over that third shot, I thought, "What the heck? Let's get this thing on!" I chose my 6 iron and somehow was able to produce a draw. The ball hit on the front left edge of the green and then began to roll out. It found a slope and kept tracking towards the hole and stopped 2 feet, just behind the pin. I couldn't believe it. "DAMN IT FEELS GOOD!" I tapped in my birdie putt and practically floated to the next tee. (Where I promptly made a bogey on the par 3. Typical)

I have dubbed my best hole story - "Breaking Barriers" As a high handicapper, great shots happen sometimes but having great holes, or even great rounds is a much bigger feat. Putting multiple shots together that all lead up to a culmination of a good score on a hole is difficult for me. I'm not a good chipper and I tend to do poorly off the tee as well so putting a hole together with those faults is errr, not easy. So Saturday a friend of mine came into town and we went to this mountain course about 30 minutes from my house. It's a gorgeous course but it has a lot of elevation changes. Its short, but difficult. It was rainy, windy, and disgusting outside but we figured we'd give it a shot anyway. I mean we had driven this far. I've been trying to break 90 for over a year now. The closest I've come is a 92. I had convinced myself it was going to happen during this round. I even told my Buddy that today was the day. Off we go and the further we go, the worse the weather got. At one point It was raining so hard we couldn't see where our tee shots went. Irrelevant, Time to power on. So we get to this dogleg right Par 5 that seems to be short but has a tight corner at about 230 yards that forces you to leave the ball short or risk hitting it too far up and over the hill at the corner leaving you no shot in. So I take my 3 wood out and figure maybe it will bounce off the hill and get a good kick if I hit it too hard. I set up a touch open hoping for a little fade as well. I got more than I bargained for. BOOM BABY: I hit a perfect draw around the trees and I absolutely smashed it. This is the point in the round where I got really excited about my prospects. The rain felt like it was starting to let up as well so I was all in. 138 to the green... Pitching wedge it is from a sligtly downhill lie. uh oh. I hit it clean but right of the green. I knew at this point I was destined for another measly par on a great tee shot. My chipping handicap is around 28 after all even though I'd spent a lot of time working on it recently. Over the back of the green, nestled in a little patch, wet grips, slow green. holding my breath I chip this thing and it takes off, I thought it was long at first, way past the hole but it turns a little to the right heading right for the hole and stops, inches from the cup hanging on the left side. I couldn't believe it. A tap-in birdie off of a chip...This might have been the first time I had ever been able to do that. That hole gave my hope. If I can chip to inside 3 or 4 feet I can break 90 easy. The next few holes flew by. I got a par on 9 and left the front with an even 45. Knowing the back was easier than the front. It was on like donkey kong. Into the clubhouse for a beer and as I walk out the most unimaginably awful sound in the history of the golfing universe. Thunder followed immediately by lighting... My partner was unwilling to wait it out as it was his anniversary and to be honest he seemed pretty miserably after the front 9. I had made him play in a deluge for the better part of 2 hours after all.. My round was over. But the feeling wasn't. That par 5 and those 9 holes have told me all I need to know about my game. I'm about to leave 90 in the dust for good.

Alright, My vote is in... @palvord gets it.. @Bucky CC was a close 2nd.. As someone who got BLISTERED by 375yd ( 225 if you take in the exchange rate for Canada) bomb last year I had some strong fellings... For someone who is a mid-handicapper, 170+ over water to a small landing area is a daunting task and he pulled it off nicely.. Well done.. now go finish strong.. you guys are doing a great job..

On the mounting front: this morning, I ordered a set of magnets with double-sided tape from Amazon ($7): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GF4D22M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'll let everyone know how well they work as a way of mounting the NX9 to my pushcart. I've been thoroughly impressed with the magnet on the NX9. I've hit some jarring bumps on the course in a cart, and it stays mounted. I wouldn't have believed it without seeing it, but the magnet is a great idea that makes the NX9 incredibly accessible during the round. I'll add: for me, this is a big deal. Any piece of on-course tech needs to be as transparent in usage as possible. I've posted in my other thread that I gave up using my phone for shot tracking because I played worse using it, fiddling with shot placement and whether the ball was on the green etc. The same principle applies here: anything that streamlines the process of grabbing this device and getting the yardage makes it far more valuable. As small a thing as it is, the magnet does that.

All good mate, I knew I would need a big bird to feature this week but it just hasn't happened

Feel for you, This is the area of my game where I have been struggling. Read techniques, read some books and took a couple of lessons. First lesson seemed to work, but it was more of a bandaid and not a long term solution and didn’t hold up under pressure. Lots of different ways to teach short game and the approach I learned in my last lesson seems to be a long term approach. It was a rebuild since pitches are a different swing approach to the long game. Now I have a chipping stroke, pitching stroke (30-40 yards and in), partial distance wedges, and full swing. I would suggest just focus on your tempo for chipping and pitching. Definitely a slower tempo. For chipping, just use you putting tempo and avoid jabbing/swinging at the ball. Easy for me to say harder for me to do as tempo on these shots is a big issue which causes all kinds of bad things to happen.

Interesting scenario, too bad you couldn’t have just switched houses. If you like where you are you could store your wife’s items in storage or if there’s room build a decent storage shed. Played 9 holes tonight with my middle son - weather was beautiful - light breeze and low 80's. I was worn out because I wasn't planning on playing so I had hit 2 buckets of balls and then my son called and wanted to play. I hit the ball really solid on the range but I had a bit of draw in my irons when I played - largely due to being tired. Such a beautiful night and a welcome relief from the heat. 34 FIR: 5/6 GIR: 6/9 Putts: 14

5 par, Second hole, pulled my drive into severe rough with a steep uphill lie. Got a 25° Hybrid at about 2/3 strength and got it back in play. Had 166 left, and hit a 6 iron to about 8 feet, and made the putt !,! Birdie!!! not sure which shot I liked better between the Hybrid or the 6 iron. Probably the 6 iron because it was the first of many good iron shots in the day with the “new” swing

My first wedges were the xE1 wedges. 59 and a 65. My buddy who at the time was a scratch golfer hated that I had them but love watching me hit a full 65° wedge that went nowhere. Used to yell xE1 when he knew it was coming out

I definitely appreciate the advice, as I know I can get in my own head, but on the course, I'm doing almost nothing for stat tracking. I write my scores and number of putts on the card, and I tag my shots on the belt device (I do not use the app during the round, as that absolutely was a terrible distraction). I've been tapping my clubs for the last three years now, so that if I don't have my GG with me, I tap the club on my side before a shot as part of my engrained preshot routine. So I know I get really, really data nerdy here, but you wouldn't see it if you played with me during a round. I do want to check out the channel @edingc mentioned. Bad shots are frustrating, but they're especially frustrating (I think) when they're bad tiny little chips. I had a hole on Monday in which I was sitting greenside after two shots. Ball was on a bit of hardpan, but even so, it doesn't excuse the debacle that followed: skulled chip over the green into the woods, drop, mediocre skulled chip to the far fringe, poorly judged putt from the fringe that was 8" short, two putts. Quad.

Fo sho! Having some back issues right now buddy, last week was Myrtle Beach week and I am feeling it. I plan to come up when it feels better. Maybe in the next week or so.

I just got back from our annual Pinehurst trip. This year we played Whispering Pines, Pine Needles, Mid South and Talamore. I was also able to play Royal New Kent on the way down. I hit the ball pretty well, but on the second and round I lost all short game. My confidence went way down and I just did not want to be anywhere inside of 60 yards. I fixed the problem following the round and chipped great for the rest of the trip. Pine Needles was great! They kept it in the same conditions as when the Sr LPGA was there a few weeks ago. Greens rolled fast! It was also my first time playing Royal New Kent (Strantz course). I have played Tobacco Road and Tot Hill Farms (both Strantz courses too) and saw a lot of similarities between them and Royal New Kent. I liked the layout of Royal New Kent and with all the Strantz courses, I would like to play it again now that I know where to hit the ball. It was a HOT week of golf with the heat index right around 115 every day. I was planning on playing Pinehurst 4 but the heat kept us from playing two rounds a day so maybe next year. Did I mention that I didn't want to pay $400 to do it either. Ouch!!! Hit 'em straight!!!

Exactly Rev. We play this particular course maybe once or twice a year.It holds many major events collegiate level. The fairways are so short and firm that even my divot swing only scruffs the surface at times. I guess it just shows me how far behind I am from accomplished well skilled golfers. It’s like hitting off of a pool table in thickness. Often I just get perplexed how good some of these golfers are who shoot par or under here.

Hello my fellow golfers.. This week we have to share our best shot/hole for you folk to vote on. I would love to be sharing a tree fiddy drive or a startling eagle but neither have happened yet. I wanted to share my 230 yard hybrid, that sailed over trees to 12 feet, that set up an amazing birdie but we hadn't started recording the Cobras when it happened. So instead I shall tell you a story of dark times and the one shot that makes golf the beautiful game we love. I shall call my story "REDEMPTION" One lovely winters day I went to a local course called Russley to play a qualifying round for match play. The day started well with a couple of good pars but then it all started to go wrong. Hole three was a double bogey I thought ok that got the bad hole out of the way but hole four...double bogey Oh well, it can't get any worse. Hole five.... Triple bogey Yes I hit my third in the lake, my fifth barely got over and I floundered my way to the hole. Needless to say as I wait for the rest of my four to finish I was an emotional wreck and collapsing inside It would have been easy just to walk into the lake and stay there for the day but no, that's not how my parents raised me Instead I lifted my head, strode to the next tee and sized up my shot. Par three, 150 Yards, bunker left, bunker and lake right. I pulled 9 iron and put a swing on it that lefty himself would have been proud of. I was right on the money and hit it to three feet!! I walked up to the green with a massive smile on my face and calmly tapped in the putt. From that point on my score didn't matter that day, I was happy in the thought that I could still play great golf and the next round would be better.

But I can show beautiful golf holes too....

For a change of pace, my golf partner and I played a different course than we normally play. On the front, I shot a decent 40, then made the turn and Dr Jekyl turned up.....had 5 double bogies on the back and ended up with a VERY disappointing round of 87. No clue what happened (like @sixcat, guess I couldn't find the ball with the clubface) ... started hitting wicked push slices all of a sudden. Meanwhile, my partner shoots a smooth 78. Our Wednesday bet is always for a milkshake and I'll be buying tonight!

Shhhhh. Don't be giving away the secrets to fantasy football!!

Wow this is an interesting week. Four way tie for 1st place and these are my matchups: GB13 - number 1 overall Undershooter30 - tied for 1st TWO matchups against Shankster who is one game behind me. Seems like this is my ultimate make or break week. Not sure if we can change it for this week but in the future I would suggest we make a rule that you can't play the same person two times in the same week.

After a couple of months where the weather has been miserably hot and muggy, I looked on the weather channel and saw this: That's 57 degrees in the morning, in Tennessee, in July! I'm now hitting my SFT as straight as an arrow but still not totally happy with my distance. I think it's part me and part club setup. My wife is going for a full bag fitting tomorrow and I've asked the fitter (who also teaches) for a 1/2 hr lesson. Playing amongst rattlesnakes adds excitement. We take snake charmers (long iron) into the brush when looking for balls in Yuma. Local legend has it that a 6 footer lives in the small palm tree forest at the base of the elevated green, par 5, #14. I suspect it's just a local who has created a private haven for collecting balls .

Sorry to hear that....We sit in a valley and the smoke from fires surrounding us from around Oregon and California will often sit here for weeks on end until fire season is over. Last year was particularly bad. And to keep it on topic -- it affected golf play

I enjoy watching them for all the reasons listed above and the emphasis on the quality of strike. I remember watching Annika win her first US Open and being completely captivated by her swing and drive and her complete dominance. Se Ri Pak and Lorena Ochoa were amazing and so many of the ladies now are so so good so young. Lydia Ko was/is just incredible and a major champion at 18 and World Number One at 17! Amazing. When I started watching them I was so impressed with the sharpness of their games and I have learned to base my own method of play around them.
