    How'd you play?

Didn't play well yesterday in our informal group - back was giving me some conniptions all week so was trying to be more gentle with my ball striking. However, I was still able to deliver on several holes which put us in the money $20./player. Oddly enough my back felt better after golf - maybe the issues worked there way out??

    How'd you play?

84 (40/44) 6/14 fir 9/18 gir 35 putts Burned a lot of edges today and had some horrible wedge shots. Only converted one birdie and had 4 decent looks. Took a double after smashing a 4i punch into the tree instead of through the gap. Bounced back 25y and thru a chain link fence -- that's what I get for trying to be a hero. Triple on the last after I sprayed my driver into the trees. The 70s were gettable today but I just couldn't execute.

    How'd you play?

Got in 18 at a new course for me, The Falls at Barber Creek. I tell you what, it was a gorgeous day on an even more gorgeous course. Unfortunately shot a 98, but felt like a played a lot better than the score indicated. I think I legitimately lipped out almost 10 putts (ended with 38). Had 43% FIR, 56% GIR (which are both above average for me), but 3 putted 4 times. Outside of shaky putting, my full shots felt as good as they ever have. Two Quads really ballooned the score. One was poor course management: Driver was great all day, so I went for it and put water in play, which ended in two balls in the drink. That being said, it could have been a lot worse than a snowman. The other a nagging pull hook rears its head with long irons off the tee. Brightest spot of the day was the 11th, 312 yd par 4. Cranked it and ended up rolling it up onto the green: Had a nice lag putt to get down for an easy knock-in for the only birdie of the day. Score wasn't great, but honestly with the weather and the beautiful course I'm not complaining at all!

  4. all over the place yesterday- 78 hacks around the course, thins, HUGE fats, pulls, low snap hooks off the tee. Unbelievably my short game kept me at just 2 over after 9, but you can only keep that going for so long. You know that way when you absolutely know what you are doing wrong, but just cant change it from the top of the swing? Tomorrow is another day and after a few youtube videos with drills to 'fix' my known issue, I will attempt to focus properly tomorrow. The game is no fun when you are trying a 'fix' on every shot

    How'd you play?

    - 43/40 = 83 (+11) - 5/15 FIR - 8/18 GIR (0 birdies) - 37 Putts (4 3-putts, 12 2-putts, 1 1-putt, 1 0-putt) - 2:45 Round Time One of those rounds where I honestly lost track of the score and was surprised once The Grint app added it all up. It was a very shaky day from 125 and in. Left approaches short of the green on several holes. Putting was not good. Irons were easily the best part of my game today, long irons especially, so that was today's saving grace. It's been a while since I was happy with my iron play after a round. Highlight of the round was hole No. 3, a 525-yard par 5. I smashed my drive 264 yards in the center of the fairway, and hit a great six iron 60 yards short of the green with a perfect view of the pin on the middle back upslope. Grabbed my 54 degree wedge, dropped the ball about 20 feet short of the pin, it took a big hop and the rolled up and in for eagle! Not my first eagle, but it was my first ever eagle from the fairway. Very awesome feeling.

  9. I just played 9 holes with a couple of friends after a great day of drinking beer and making stuffed peppers and home made tomato/vegetable juice. The front 9 of my home course is a par 34. I shot 39 with a very bad double bogey on a par 3. I duffed the tee shot.... duffed the next shot ... finally was on the green on the third shot and proceeded to 2 putt...lol. Oh well. It was a fantastic day spent with my buddies.... and the weather was perfect.

    How'd you play?

A very poor 85 today... lots and lots of bogeys and only a few pars. It was the last day of our Men's Club Championship (I didn't play), and they had the Blue tees ALL the way back; and very tricky pins. I guess I should be happy that I didn't have any doubles or worse. The only highlight today was on the par 5 #13 hole. Pin was back and I had 115y for my 3rd shot; all carry over a large bunker. Caught my wedge just a little heavy; Hit my 4th shot out of the bunker one roll short of the hole for a rare par today.

    How'd you play?

One of those days. I was solid off the tee but struggled with 100-115 yard shots. 39/48-87 with 3 bogeys on the front and 6 doubles on the back. C ourse we played today had some elevation changes which is odd for SE Virginia. Here is the tee shot from 16 and nope I didn't hit the green; tee shot was short and I ended up with........a double

Hit the ball better, contact-wise, than yesterday, but could NOT putt. Number 10, on in 2, 15 feet for eagle.... THREE PUTTED. Finished 3rd in the first flight. Ugh. 15. 45/43 for an 88 5/13 fairways 5/18 greens 34 putts I had two drives go out of bounds on 17 and 18 that really hurt my score. On 17 I hit an overcooked draw that found the trees and on 18 I hit a shot that I swore was just absolutely perfect, a fade that went down the right hand side of the fairway that should have kicked back left and had a chance to roll to the green. Three of my four longest drives have gone that way, but I couldn't find the ball and had to take a drop. The putter was on fire, this is my best round ever with the putter and for the round Arccos had my handicap with it at. 0.2. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  16. Allie and I played in 2-person scramble today, and it was my first really meh putting day since starting the PuttOut testing. I didn't make anything over a foot today, missing a couple inside six feet. Of course, Allie only gave me two chances inside 10 feet, because she made everything else we had, so I didn't get to putt much. I've never seen her make so many putts inside 10 feet.

    FedEx Cup Playoffs

You and me both. I think something is wrong when two major champions aren't at the Tour Championship and a guy who hasn't won until the BMW Championship went into the week with the lead. I did find the Tour Championship/FedEx Cup was simpler but the Majors need more value IMHO.

    USGA stymied ?

I've recently bought into the Longleaf Tee System. I suppose it has a lot to do with my involvement with youth golf. But, quite frankly every course ought to consider this. The USGA should endorse this. Perhaps there could be some sort of incentive for employing the system. They're (USGA) always concerned about the state of the game and how to attract more players. Well, this could certainly do it IMO. Way more than "tweaking" the rules. https://www.uskidsgolf.com/play-and-learn/longleaf-tee-system

Bacon Boys 9, Yea!! 7:00am Tee Time, our 4 groups had first 4 Tee Times. This 9 holes is new and not connected to Cart Path system yet (see bridge in Random Thd) so we have to take our cars, PIA. I looked over and 2 guys were heading out B4 us and they were walking. Saw this B4 @ this course, these 2 guys are friends with Starter and they are SLOW. I told Starter NFW our group is first, Starter tried to give me some bull but I was not having any of it and the other guys were getting into the show. Starter relented and our groups took our place in front of these 2 privileged clowns. One of them is a smart a_ _ and figured he was going to get away with this again but I wasn’t having any of it. Guess I can be cranky old fart sometimes. BTW actually played pretty good, no shoulder problem so that’s all good! I Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

LOVE IT! That's honestly exactly what he has needed - his swagger. I saw him interviewed in preparation for the Open Championship where he was talking about setting the course record of 61 at Royal Port Rush as a 16 year old and he made the comment "I wish I had the confidence I did then" - what a statement. I just love seeing a player - any player - play to their potential. Rory is too good to feel anything other than swagger.

  44. My wife joined me for today's round, and we had a blast! I had her drive the cart and showed her how to use the rangefinder so she could help with yardages. She also took some time to take some pictures, as she's an artist and saw some places she could use as reference for backgrounds. Since the course was not too busy, I asked her to come up to the green and gave her an impromptu lesson on putting. Her aim was good, but her distance control was a bit off. I tied a personal best, shooting an 88. I apologize to anyone who saw on Twitter I shot an 89, going back through the round I saw a drive on 15 that said it went 42 yards and a lob wedge that traveled 192. Arccos picked up me searching for golf balls while we were waiting for a foursome to finish the hole. Today was the best ball striking round I've had with the Atomics since I've been gaming them. With the exception of a couple of draws I hit into trees on a couple of par 3's, these irons were point and shoot. I'm especially impressed with the shorter irons, as I hit a couple of shots with the AW that were dead on the flag. I hit shots on 14 and 15 that I thought had a chance to go in. The main thing that hurt my scoring today was back-to-back drives on the last two holes that went OB and cozy me some strokes, but the Atomics were dead on. 45. Kinda like Rev and others have said just depends. For me I am still gaming my Homna over my 915 D-2. I hit a cut by design and the Homna does not have as bad of sidespin for me as the 915. We have proved that on the launch monitor. Now with the Homna if I do catch it in the toe some I can get a wicked rolling hook but that is rare for me. On the other hand if I catch the 915 in the toe it goes pretty straight and rolls like a freight train. But a toe hit hook is rare for me. Now I will add both of those drivers have off the shelf shafts but both have been tuned frequency wise and the heads have been tuned weight wise and placement wise. I have put the Homna against some of the newer drivers on the machine at PGASS. those new drivers did have stock shafts. Of course the one guy at PGASS figured out my driver had been tweaked and tuned some. Played with a guy today that is a club tinkerer himself. He had an older Cally X-1. He had a couple shafts he was experimenting with. I do remember the one shaft was a Project x and I can not recall what the other one was but he hit it well. now that Cally X-1 is about a 3 year old head but he was bombing it out there in the fairway straight around 280 290 or so. Like I told him that X-1 head IMHO is one of the best heads Cally made. I have messed with that head some and liked it. Was actually going to buy a used demo one from my course but got to messing with the 915 and then the Homna. But like I say different strokes for different folks

  46. D7s impressed today. I didn't have my best swing today and still managed to have good day. As much as these are a SGI iron, you can in fact shape a shot with them if you need to. Really struggling right now with the 4 and 5 iron. But the wedge has been a surprise and has been useful around the green.

  47. I just got back from my long game fitting.. I know I teased a longer update after going through the fitting, but I'm going to have to split the update. I got baseline numbers from my current 5i, 5w, and 3w, but after going through the hybrid portion of the fitting, I was getting tired and my numbers were starting to drastically drop and my swing was getting inconsistent. I went ahead and ordered a hybrid, and am going to resume the fairway wood portion of the fitting when I pick up the new club! Hopefully I will be able to get some Driver numbers at that time also. But to give you a general idea of how my swing speed numbers have progressed, I compared my Trackman numbers from today with the Trackman numbers from my previous Driver and Iron fittings (Driver and Irons were fitted in 2018 at the same location). This won't be a perfect apples to apples comparison since I did not hit driver today and the only iron I hit was my 5i, whereas I was fit previously using a 6i, but I think you'll still get the point... In 2018, my fitted driver had an average swing speed of 91.3. A month later, my fitted 6i swing speed measured in at 83.3 mph. Today, my current 3w had an average speed of 98.7 mph, and my current 5i had an average speed of 91.0 mph! A disclaimer to the above, after going through the SuperSpeed program and gaining swing speed, but not distance, I started looking towards lessons. At the end of April, I started going to a local teaching professional and have taken a total of 3 lessons. It took taking the lessons before I started seeing distance gains. So while I do think some of my swing speed gains can be attributed to the lessons (my club path has gotten drastically better), I still believe that the majority of this increase came from learning how to swing faster!

Ho hum 75 today. Hit it well and caught some bad breaks. On 16 I hit it through the fairway that ended at 320 and wound up in the junk. 50. Thanks for the compliments! The Cleveland RTX 4 wedges inspire a level of confidence I've never really had with the other wedges I've owned throughout the years. From my first chip, I knew these wedges were going to do what Cleveland said they would do! I no longer fear those greenside chips or the wedge approach shots; in fact, those shots are now offensive scoring weapons for me . MDGolfHacker
