    How'd you play?

74 7/14 fir 10/18 gir 30 putts. This was today. Putter didn’t travel with my game playing poppy hills. Had 69 putts in 36 holes. Shot 79 79. 15th hole the second day I made 8 footer for par and told my partner that you could actually use feet to measure the distance of the made putt. Hit it ok today just too loose. 6 bogeys is unacceptable. Greens are still not healed so I think I’ll blame it on that. Here is 13th hole at Bayonet. Just happened to have my partner video me and I hit my best drive and only birdie of the day.

  2. 77.........but I actually played well, overall. 'New' driver showed promise (first time ever hitting it), irons were crisp, wedges surprisingly good (after utilising Jon Rham methodology), putting still good with the 'new' putter. The 77 came really from 3 bad drives so I'm off to the range today as I know what needs to physically change on the driver- grip and length. The good drives were actually the best drives I've hit for a long time, hence why I say it shows promise........I wasn't fitted and it was a quarter the price of the latest offerings out there.

  3. Got a flat on 17 with no spare in rental. Just air pump. Got it to Pebble Beach clubhouse and wound up eating dinner while portable flat fixer came by. Plugged the flat right on back of truck in PB parking lot. Got to see the sights (table overlooking PB in window out back) but not to play :( What a tease huh. Great food and can’t beat the scenery at the clubhouse :)

    How'd you play?

I’m so messed-up right now! Three swings in my head, all different. It’s driving me nuts! Too many different lessons, so once I get to the top, I have no feel for how to get to the ball. With driver, I’m not sure if I should play a draw, fade, or “straight”. Our course is SO dry, having hard pan lies on every shot doesn’t help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  5. Some pics from the South Course at Firestone... I think this is the third hole - short par 4. This is taken from the right rough - it's a harrow hole - I hit a 3 wood off the tee to the center and had about 130 to the pin. Pulled it significantly left, hit a tree guarding the green, pitched up and two-putted for a very lucky bogey. This is the view of #16 from the fairway. This is the second shot -- already hit a pretty good drive to get to about 380 yards. The play was to hit to where the group in front of us was standing, near the shadows on the right hand side, leaving about an 8 or 9 iron into a tiny green. I pull-hook-scruffed a 3-wood into the rough to the left of that fairway bunker. Had to hit a 9-iron just short of the pond in front of the green... Cut it kind of close, don't you think? The pin was cut pretty close to the front - about 50 yards from this spot. This is one tough golf hole... The plaque on the bridge crossing the pond to the green... This is the approach to 18 - it's a deep, narrow green and they put the pin way in the back. The trees are crazy - it's like kicking a field goal. And yes, I pulled it into the tree on the left and dropped into the front bunker. Solid double-bogey finish! View of the first tee for the South Course, and the Lodge. They have 30 double rooms you can rent up in the Men's Locker room, plus a ton of villas along 16, 18 and across the street on the North Course overlooking the lake. How'd you play?

Definitely a mixed bag today. Shot 80, but it was a strange 80. Usually when I play, I have lots of average shots, with a few good and a few bad sprinkled in. But not today! Today, it was anyone’s guess as to whether I was going to hit it inside 3 feet or not make it past the ladies tee box! I didn’t have any consistency in distance control ball striking or accuracy. Oh, I putted terribly too. There were some things to build on, but certainly not a round to remember.

Two concern I have taking CBD are; how do you know about quality/control of the source (not well regulated I hear), and second that my craving for Doritos and Cheetos will become uncontrollable .

    How'd you play?

We had an hour frost delay this morning. My wife and I were paired with a father/son. I asked the dad if he played often, and he said Yes... about 5-6 times a year. As usual, we get paired with nice people but take a lot of time. I always feel like I have to rush my shots so we don't fall too far behind. They just don't play ready-golf. We played with a "caddie". A high school girl needs to caddie rounds to apply for the Evans Scholarship. Smart young woman; wants to be a nuclear engineer. I am disappointed with my 81, that included 2 birdies; one being a 30 footer on the par 3 #17. I was one club short off the tee. I managed to screw up #18 after a great drive; plugged the ball in the greenside bunker, and made a double bogey. 7/13 fairways 7/18 greens 30 putts. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!

Shooting 80 while putting terribly is not that bad. Tighten that up and you are right there!! Just laugh at the ones by the "ladies tee box". A couple of months ago I barely got past the "ladies tee box", but it was 200 yards out!!!!!!

  14. Played a round with my new/old set of butter knives. Not sure what drove me to this madness but I recently got an itch to get my hands on an older set of MB blades. The general theory was to find something smaller in profile to practice with, to help with strike consistency. Shot 2 over on the front 9 and was at par through 13 before it got too dark. Man what a fun set of clubs to play! Playing with them again tomorrow and can't wait! 2 - PW for $120 and couldn't be happier with the find. The pics are showing my Maltby DBM for profile comparison. the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

  15. I've been taking it for 2 years for lower back, shoulder, and neck pain. Specifically, I eat a 10mg gummy before bed. I get lower back pain from golf, surfing, and skateboarding my whole life. It doesn't do much for my lower back, but for my neck and shoulder it's wonderful. It's a natural anti inflammatory and helps me for anything related to inflammation. I don't like to take Advil because it upsets my stomach. My FIL just had an endoscopy and has an ulcer and gastritis -- he's a long time Advil/ibuprofen user fwiw. Wish this stuff worked for headaches so I could be completely done with pain killers. Edit: like @ole gray mentioned, this stuff puts me out and I sleep great -- another benefit!

    One word answer and why

Inconsistent My game seems to be up and down; each time I play I struggle to put all aspects together for the complete 18 holes. Have had some good 9 hole and some bad 9 holes, but really haven't played a solid 18 holes this year. Haven't played in 3 weeks so I am interested to see how well I strike the ball tomorrow.

  17. I have nagging back pain, and I do some yoga every morning to loosen up. I also have some pain in my left hand. I'm very interested in CBD as a treatment for both. In an earlier No Putts Given podcast, it sounded like Adam and the boys were going to do a Most Wanted for CBD. I'd love to see them put their stamp of approval on one product or another. Just to feel better about it.

  18. ... Many years ago I used to view my clubs as works of art, especially my irons. I spent a lot of time and effort either cleaning out the paint fill for a clean look, or changing the paint fill color to match the shaft or grips. Once I started reviewing clubs, especially those sent to me by the OEM's, I did not want to change the appearance. But some of the paint fill came off one of my P790's and I decided to take the time to clean off the rest of it. I have to admit, it looks a lot better to my eye. Now I think I am going to have to do the rest of the set ... sigh. I never see the back at address but of course as the title says, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder and they look pretty beautious to my beholdin'.

  19. Here'a a little more detail on my fitting for the G410 Irons. After warming up with my current 7 iron (photo on the left is the Hogan, right G410) I had a good baseline of numbers to compare . For looks, the toplines are very similar, but the G410 is visibly a little larger with slightly more offset. Feel-wise it took some time to work through some shaft options to get something that felt good to me. For the feel of the club anyway, my Hogans feel very balanced when I hold the club up parallel in front. At least with the first couple of shaft options in the Ping they felt very club-head heavy to me. Started out with a shaft similar to my current KBS Tour V stiff, and the results were ugly, couldn't find the swing and ball flights were all over the place. We tried a couple more and results were the same. We got to the Ping AWT 2.0 stiff and the dispersal started to come around, but the ball flight wasn't ideal and didn't see much distance change. Finally we tried the AWT Regular and got what we were looking for. Similar launch with better ball speed, consistent ball flight, and a little more carry distance. To boot, we got the more balanced feel that I seem to like. Final Result - Ping G410 Irons with Ping's True Temper AWT 2.0 shaft in R flex (I knew that was coming eventually since my next birthday comes with a colonoscopy appointment). I also know and chatted with my fitter that not all shaft flex designations are the same. I'll have to have them check on the freq machine but it could be with the heavier weighted shaft these are pretty close to what I've been swinging. I feel fairly confident I'll be able to determine distance gains and accuracy without using the Arccos system, so I've opted not to select the incorporated grips. By the numbers: Hogan PTx - Ball Speed 105 mph, BackSpin 6335, Launch Angle 22.25*, Offline 4.8 yds, Descent angle 48*, carry 143.8 yds Ping G410 - Ball Speed 106 mph, BackSpin 4791, Launch Angle 22.5*, Offline 11.5 yds, Descent angle 47.25*, carry 151.5 I feel confident some more practice to dial in feel will bring the offline number for the Pings in a little closer, and we also had to keep a couple of more errant shots in the count that skewed the number a bit. The final 4 swings were all tightly grouped, just a bit more left of line than the Hogans. Looking forward to arrival day and getting to work.

  21. IMG_0051.HEIC So, I got these in the mail today and headed to the course before the rain. The first thing I noticed was the color and tackiness (grippy) or should I say lack of. Do you know what I mean when you rub two golf balls together they like grip each other. These do not. The white was different than the other balls in the test almost cheap looking. (n) I tested the left Dash against the Pro V1, Pro V1x, and the AVX. The weather was 61* and really windy. My home course is a link style, started drizzling on #8 and lasted the rest of the round. I hit all 4 balls on every shot. I took the longest drive and played all 4 from there. I putted all four on every green and chipped from at least 2 different spots at every green. My gamer for years have been the Pro V1x. The last 5 rounds I switched to the V1 and my last 5 rounds were in the 70's. Driver: V1 - Longest AVX - Straightest V1x - Really loud off the driver. it might not have enough spin for me to keep it in the air. All the tee shots I thought I just creamed it and it was never the longest on any hole I used driver. V1x - It was the shortest of the bunch and missed the most fairways to the left. Irons and Hybrid: All the balls performed really well. The V1x missed my target the most. All balls that hit the green never really ran out more than 5 feet. Again the -V1x was loud. Chipping: The V1x checked the most and the -V1x released the most, but nothing major. Putting: I had no problems putting with any of the 4 balls. The -V1x is a great ball in it's own, but its not for me. It's to loud and hard feeling off the driver. It just doesn't work for me off the driver. I need all the distance I can get off the tee box. I can not afford to give up 10 to 20 yards. So for now I'll be sticking with the V1. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  22. The OP's deal sounds like it's too good to be true, even at $1.1K/year. Here in central VA, the cheapest place I can belong is our First Tee's executive (4600 yard par 66) course at $199/month for a family membership. No point in joining since I'm a volunteer coach and my daughter is in the programs, so we both get inexpensive access to the facility. Next cheapest place is a decent course for $215/month, but it's just far enough away to be inconvenient for a quick nine. I used to belong to a private club, and I really enjoyed it, but I always felt terrible about playing anywhere else, and I played so little in the winter months that the economics didn't work out. Also, it was an equity club, and I was terrified of an assessment. One of the greatest things about having a membership (private, semiprivate, public with all-you-can-play) is that going out and playing 4 or 5 holes after work is economically viable. More public courses need to follow the lead of Canal Shores outside Chicago and have a reduced rate for a 4-6 hole loop. Unless a course's 9 hole rate is next to nothing, people won't come out and play less than 9. And courses are losing a ton of revenue to driving ranges and to people giving up the game because they don't have time to play. Even if people don't have time for 9, they're likely to have an hour to play 4 holes every week, and that keeps them interested between infrequent 18 hole rounds.

  24. Had a blast Matt! Always good to tee it up with you. Played the South on Friday - it's a bear of a course and it had a sizable portion of my ass for a snack. Did lip out a par putt for bogey on The Monster, #16. We played it at about 630 yards - it's a great golf hole (I'll post some pix later). We played the Member tees at about 6500 yards, which is a bit over my limit these days, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. The greens on the South are pretty small, with lots of false fronts and subtle - and not so subtle - breaks. The West was a lot of fun to play. Some say of the three courses at Firestone, it's the weakest, but one guy Thursday night said it well - the West has two major problems: the South and the North courses. If it was all by itself it would be considered a hell of a course.

  26. ... Excellent replies from Pmookie and Plaid, From my teaching days I can assure you every student is different and unique. I loved when my students came to their first lesson knowing what they wanted from their lessons. "How much are you willing to practice?" ... "How much are you wiling to change?" ... "How long do you expect a change to become permanent" ... "How many steps back are you wiling to take before taking steps forward?" ... "Are you willing to play very poorly while the new swing takes shape?" ... These are questions I liked to ask before and during a lesson. Be 100% honest. Some admitted they were not going to practice, just play Saturday and come back for their next lesson. Some wiling to put in one day of practice and some practice every day. It makes a huge difference in how I would teach. I think one of the reasons I was so successful with word of mouth from my students is for the vast majority, I tried to help them do what they were already doing, just do it better. Meaning take a weak 25 yd slice and turn it into a more powerful 10 yd fade. Yes, I had some students willing to make huge changes and were willing to take a full year or longer with constant practice, but they were the exception. Most just wanted to make better contact, hit better shots and shoot lower scores. Not going from 110 to 79, but 110 to 90-95. ... And lastly, you should have a good rapoire with your instructor. I was a positive, encouraging, happy and friendly instructor because that is who I am. I started every first lesson with a smile and a plea "Whatever you do, please don't hit any good shots. It just makes my job so much more difficult. If you can hit some really bad shots and give me your very worst swings it will make my job sooooo much easier". Find an instructor that matches your personality or has a personality that appeals to you and your lessons will go much better. If you do not have a connection and/or do not like what or how your instructor gives you a lesson, find another. I had students that complained they really didn't like their previous instructor(s) and stayed with them too long. ... Lessons can be so much fun, so helpful and great for your game, so I wish you the best of luck gong forward!

    How'd you play?

Played ok today, getting used to my physical limitations, after a poor round last week. My last round was awful, probably pre determined by a few things,, a good score prior, a network hack at work, and, sadly finding out that a member of my club that I had a great relationship with had died just as I was walking off the practice green. I shed a few tears with his brother, who is also a great bloke. My game was garbage, but sometimes golf comes second. This week I decided to pay a bit of a tribute to my mate. He was the opposite of me in dress sense, but very similar in attitude. I gave him the nickname of "Fifty", short for Fifty Shades of Gray, as he always managed to wear multiple shades of gray, with actual colour rarely getting a run. Our sense of golf fashion couldn't be further apart. Happily I played pretty well. Had 11 over playing off 10, with a triple and 2 doubles. Putted well, and drove it solidly. A couple of awful 95 yard sand wedges cost me a bit. Great weather and great company made for a really enjoyable day. Catching up with my late mate's brother after my round was a great finish to the day. R.I.P. Garry.

Exactly....and I think that makes it worse. You put together a series of holes and then all of a sudden you feel like you can't even hit the ball. Sometimes it seems like more of a mental lapse than a swing issue.

Dang!! You picked my word as I was thinking about it!! Inconsistent... but not just each time I play. It seems like it's every hole, or even every shot. One hole I can stripe it down the middle, and the next hole I push it or pull hook it; then back down the middle on the next hole. This issue has been worse this year than previous years, but I've had nagging shoulder and wrist pain most of the year so that's my excuse, and I'm sticking with it.

  37. ... I'll admit that initially I was a little frustrated but it didn't take me long at all to understand my role. It is your lesson and I always felt my job was to give you what you want and hopefully what you need. I am not paying you to be there for me, I am being paid to be there for you. If You wanna take a lesson and not practice in-between lessons I certainly should have no problem with that. As long as you have no problem with not progressing very fast. ... Your second point is spot on Tony! As an instructor it is my job to convey information to you in a way that you understand. Some of my students that I had a very congenial relationship with might say to me after a break thru "Why the hell didn't you tell me that to start with?" To which I would reply " I did. 10 different ways. But it took you the 11th for you to get it!" I am amazed at how many instructors repeat the same things over and over again when their students are struggling with the concept. Assuming they have seen video and know the problem, lets say a student is having a hard time "keeping their head down" (words I really dislike because they should keep their eyes down but allow their head to move") but I might tell them to "watch hitters in baseball on TV and freeze the frame at impact. Every single one will have the brim of their helmet pointing at the ball hitting the bat so your golf hat brim should be pointing at the golf ball on impact." That may mean nothing to them. "After contact, make sure you pick out one single blade of grass before letting your eye move up". Still didn't work. I would stand in front of them and put the butt end of the shaft on their hat and tell them to keep the grip on the hat thru impact. Didn't work and not a tip for them. OK, try looking backward right at impact, having your eyes move a foot behind the ball. BINGO! It is an instructors job to find out how their student learns and like in your case as a visual learner, no talking without illustrating at the same time.

  40. As I said in the Blueprint Thread, played well today. But the part of my game that I used to lean on left me in some bad spots. With this swing I think I have too much bounce on my sand wedge. Twice in the sand I skulled it, and one fat. Most of the chips were stubby that weren’t the Blueprint wedge. Maybe more bounce?... Very confusing anyways.

  41. Played today with an older couple, I was only planning on playing 9, they asked me to play all 18 with them because I was playing so well. Pretty sure they hit all but 1 fairway each all day. Pretty good outing. These things continue to impress me, but I need to find a good ball combo with it. The PV1 spins way too much, so much that I had 60 yard pitch and runs just pitch and stop with the Wedge. Here’s some stats for you DLK.

  50. I have been using it now for about 6 months for tightness/ soreness in my lower right side of my back, I have tried numerous brands and have found a nasal spray that works almost instantly called Nasadol, apparently the oil takes time to be absorbed into your system and depending on dosage and mg strength results vary. The Nasadol nose spray gets absorbed very quickly through the nose and results are noticeable quickly and at a lower cost and mg dosage, I have been using the 400mg version and highly recommend. Here is the link to their website and FYI I have no affiliation with this company in case anyone is wondering just externally satisfied with the results of the product and for me it works, as well I can say my golf game has improved for the better, a much calmer focused round from me than pre CBD spray. http://www.nasadol.com Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
