My wife went boot shopping for me in Nashville. I have a pair of blue python and a pair of gray croc boots waiting for me at the hotel. Not sure what she spent on them but I was told “happy birthday and don’t f’in ask”. At least I have two new pairs of dress shoes to wear to work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. As I just got the weapon a week ago, I am starting out by leaving everything on my G410 Plus in neutral settings until I am more sure how I hit this club. Lately, I have been hitting some hooks as a result of a back muscle giving grief so that good hip turns through the drive were minimally, if at all, possible. I am getting a good sense of what I may have to adjust, but the ease of swinging this monster seems to want to make me wait for a while. So far, I am getting a bit of a strong draw, but not a lot of gawd awful hooks to sense a full pattern. To be honest, I need to work out ways to get a little more distance. But no adjustment until I feel better tuned to the clubs a whole. BTW, love the club! It not only lives up to the MGS reviews, to me, it swell worth its price.

  7. I was at Golfworks this week and fondled the TS1 and 2s. Super nice looking club. GW firmly believes that these are as good or better than any OEM out there.

  8. Home at 2am this morning after spending 2 days wirh Jim and 2 other students. GW is making nothing on this class as they buy lunches, supply beverages, books, and some free Golf Pride stuff. They are banking on you being a customer. I thought GW was just a 30-40 employee operation , but that isnt the case. They have well over a 100 employees and do move much more product then iI imagined. We stayed busy so no time to tour the operation. I went to the 2 day repair class. It covered loft lie bending, broken shaft repair, shaft removal and install, grips removal and install a multiple of ways, extensions, some swingweighting, bore thru. and whatever questions we came up with. Not sure if they covered anything extra after I left Friday. Class went over some but I had to get to a plane. Brief panic moment on the first day. Heavy rains and super windy the first day. Lost power and that building has no back up. Came back on after a couple minutes..whew.. Jim is a wealth of info and just throws out info and it can be overwhelming. He was great to go over it again as needed and explained in a way that Ithe students could understand. This class was beginner level stuff. but offered insights of different methods to accomplish the same thing. The make up of the 3 students in the class. was a very beginner inthe club repair world, a gu who went to a class there in the late 90s and does word of mouth work out of his house, and myself who has just begun dabbling in the last year. The new guy was intriqued and overwhelmed but did well. The experienced guy eased thru class but learned some things along the way in terms of different methods and easier methods or more accurate methods. For me I breezed thru as well but learned some things I will change and re-evaluate certain proceses and my tools and future purchases. I did take a large suitcase for some purchases to save on shipping but held off until evaluate what I really need. Didnt want spur of moment purchases. I will go back next year for a fitting class.

  10. No, no... Thank _You_, Ping Golf USA! Pulled these out of the mailbox after an hour of shoveling snow and pondered the potential of my three month trial period expiring without ever having an opportunity to test drive. Called Arccos HQ (they answered on the first ring) to inquire about suspending my trial period until the Spring. No dice - however, they were kind enough to _extend_ my trial until April 1st. Thank you Arccos!!! YMMV but it’s probably worth a call. Arccos: 844-692-7226

    How'd you play?

Got out yesterday afternoon for what may be the last round of the year. It was 45*F with a stiff 15mph wind. Was the only one on the course and barely hit any greens but glad I got out to play. Got 18 holes in and think I shot about 88 only kept score mentally. Was also trying to implement a few tips I got during my true spec fitting. So mixed bag of shots and probably some over compensation on swing mechanics. Using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Another day of good tee shots, good short game (short putting was medicore), and bad iron play. Spent some time on the range and hit the ball well but it didn't carry over to the course.

  14. I'd agree with previous posts in that it's a combination of the two. As to the wine reference - it's purely personal preference - no robot testing as far as I know. There are some pretty expensive wines that I don't care for. Also some less expensive wines that I'd take over the expensive ones. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

Love them. I grew up in the mountains of PA and dress clothes were good boots and jeans without a Skoal ring. I lived in the city and tried to be “more sophisticated.” Turns out boots, jeans and a buckle is just me and why try and change it. My wife is happy that I am just back to being me and not trying to be everything to everyone. Have a lot going on with life right now and found what my foundation is so that is a start. 17. It's definitely both. I had this conversation with the people at Titleist on Friday. And you know what. They had both going on at the very moment. They were using the robot for ball testing, and on one of the teeing areas they were using real live humans for club testing at that moment. But they also use them for ball testing along with the robot. Sound famaliar? MGS has said many times they get it's protocols from the OEM's.

Im with both. An engineer or team can make the best golf club that checks all the boxes but it it looks like a iron that fell down the stairs into a furnace i.e. the human factor then its not worth its weight in scrap.

    How'd you play?

Actually, being on the outskirts of greater Phoenix is not such a bad thing. My BIL lives in Surprise which not all that long ago was "out in nowhere". Now it's it's own city, and everything you need is a short drive away, maybe even by golf cart. Unless I was going to play golf at a course on the other side of Phoenix, I would likely never drive into/around Phoenix.

  25. For the last couple of weeks, I've let a buddy borrow my F8's to try out before he decided to purchase a set. I got them back today, so I took them out to the range to work on a problem have had for a while, starting my backswing to the inside and coming over the top. First time trying it and the results were decent. Hit quite a few chunks, but was seeing improvement on the shots I hit well. Haven't been able to play in over a month (moving the mother-in-law, weather), so I thought a trip to the range might help scratch the itch. Definitely have some work to do, but at least it was a start. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  28. When the TS-2 first came out I put them head to head with and identically built P790. The TS-2 had better feel and spun better in the Sim. Had identical ball speed and launch. On the course the TS-2 dropped and stopped on the green while the P790 rolled out the the back of the green over and over. It baffles me why people pay OEM prices when these are so damn good. 29. No I actually found the set on eBay. The clubs couldn’t have been used for more than 5 or 6 rounds. The 5 iron still had the shrink wrap on it. I was actually just going to buy new but when I went to pay there was no PayPal option. I found and bought this set before Jason got back to me with an option for using PayPal. I stuck with the used set mainly to save a few bucks. I didn’t realize they sold used sets until I seen the Tweet from them about a used set for $309. On a side note I did send an email Friday night about possibly purchasing heads only as I didn’t care for the tour v shafts when I tried them. Jason actually called me Saturday morning to discuss what I was looking for and to explain why they don’t SEND out heads only. He did however mention an option to purchase heads only and send the shafts I am going to install to them and they would install them for me. I prefer to do my own club work for the most part so I declined. It is a pretty neat option for those interested though. He stated that they really want to control the quality of the builds for their irons and I don’t think I can blame him for that. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

    How'd you play?

Played yesterday for the first time in over 3 weeks! I’ve been on a course twice in that period to test golf balls but I was doing that, not playing golf to keep score. Played pretty well once I shook off the rust 39-39, 78. The front nine at St Pete CC is generally 2 shots easier than the back - I bogeyed 3 of the first 5 holes before I got settled in with my short game. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  31. For design when it comes to specs the robot is a great tool because they can get consistent strikes and gather data similar to how ball testing is done. human testing comes into play for the subjective aspects. Looks, sound, feel (many equate this to the sound they hear rather than what they feel in the hands arms). both are needed in my opinion. It’s why brands bring in testers for their prototype testing

Well, the opening of the bar was a success. We had issues, which we worked through, including a stopped up toilet which led to the drain in the bar flooding twice. Made a bit of money in tips and hope to build on that.

I have about 80 rounds with mine and lots of range time and my response to anyone wondering is "you're going to have to pry........ " well you get it. Since we're roughly the same age, and I think close to the same SS, I'll be interested to hear what shaft they put you in. I've got the CB R Flex cut down about 1/2". FYI I started out (for the official test) with the SR Flex - then I went to my fitter who put me into this current shaft..

Got my sensors Tuesday. I got them all installed paired them all up on my phone this afternoon. (I had to use a Sharpie to label some of the Game Golf tags I was removing, because they had been worn smooth.) Then I got to the course to find it closed for the winter. Sniffle: So I sent an email to Arccos asking if they'd be willing to cancel my subscription to Caddie and to delay the free three months until next season. I'd like to hope that they'd work with me here. UPDATE: OK, that's seriously impressive. Within 20 minutes of my initial email to them, Arccos replied and offered to cancel my subscription and allow me to restart the Caddie trial next spring. They are already getting one major vote for me over Game Golf on that front.

  36. It is amazing how seemingly small adjustments are able to present big results. With my irons 7i, 6i and 9i, I have been drifting left. So today I worked on three minor adjustments. 1) Made sure I had the ball properly spaced in terms if distance from he body and between feet. And I worked to make sure I can get that position 95% of the time. 2) Made sure I addressed the ball in a position to allow me to be much more likely to hit the sweet spot of the club. This includes making sure I am not overly out of good positioning for the loft of the club. 3) Making sure I have a good hip turn with solid follow through towards the target. Looked and felt good in terms of results. All irons had great flights and for the 6i and 7i good roll and with the 9i a really nice drop and stop. I also took some time with the new boom stick, a PING G410+. My ball speed is nearing 120 consistently. While my full drive results were good at 200-210, I was still capable of a great looking drive that ended up closer to 185-190. I have a few things I will try this week. But the one thing the G410+ has given me is growing confidence that I will not be hurt with the driver.

Inconsistent I’d also go with frustrating, hopeful and improving. Some days I feel like I’ve turned that corner and then literally the next day it’s like I’ve never played before. I’m continuing to work on my game and taking lessons, winter has set in here in the great white north so it’s inside for me now. I’ve had some changes body wise this year with some weight loss so I’ll be getting refit over the winter and see if that makes a difference. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  44. The Salt Bath Test OK.. rainy day golf-nerd project... * Background Earlier this season, based on the MGS ball test, I'd purchased some MaxFli Tour and Tour X to try out ($25/doz @ Dick's when buying 2 or more). Have played both, though have not played/tested them side-by-side in the same round, and at this point I'm with the majority of the testers in that the Tour feels like the better ball of the two for me. While I understand - in principle - the advantage of the CG Balancing I was not 100% sure of its effect; so I've been reading and following this testing thread with great interest to see others' reactions. And then with all the talk about doing the balance tests I just had to jump in and try it. FYI - I got the Tour in the hi-vis matte green .. I like the color, though in certain conditions it does not stand out all that well (so it becomes kinda "lo-vis" ) and I do *not* like the matte finish on this ball - tho it's durable it retains dirt and moisture. * Testing I took one new ball each of... - Maxfli Tour - Maxfli Tour X - Chromesoft Truvis - Pro V1 (a few years old but kept in the basement) and.. - a very "experienced" Top Flite Z-Balata I happened to find in my bucket on the practice range the other day. After preparing the salt bath (ie. continually adding more and more [table, not epsom] salt until finally the ball started to float .. man it needs a lotta salt!) I dunked a ball and waited for it to settle, made sure it was not touching the side of the pot, carefully picked it up and marked the "high" point and then repeated the dunking / waiting / marking 4 more times for a total of 5 marks on each test ball. (I ended up not testing the Noodle .. who plays those anyway?) * Hypotheses Pro V1 -- Even though these are a few years old, they're still new/unused and have been kept in the basement within a narrow temp / humidity range. With the vaunted Titleist quality control I would expect these to come out on top - that is: each mark should be at different spots around the ball. Tour, Tour X -- I expected the marks to be on or very near the equator described by the stamped CG alignment line. Chromesoft -- Might have a particular hi/lo spot or a circular area with all the marks near each other. Z-Balata -- clearly this should be the worst; presumably with a repeated hi spot. * Results Again, I tested only ONE ball of each model (and noting that, statistics-wise, it is not a valid conclusion to extrapolate single subject results onto a general population), what I saw in this test was... # Pro V1 -- negative. Spots were not randomly marked all around the ball, and instead 4/5 marks were actually near each other and fell roughly along a straight line; the fifth mark is just out of sight (top of ball) and also close to this line. Note this "line" does not coincide with the manufacturer side-stamp; nor .. I presume .. is it supposed to. Again, this ball is a few years old and most likely Titleist has further improved their quality and quality control? # MaxFli Tour -- ok. Good - 4/5 marks, although near each other, at least are very close to the CG equator indicated by the dashed line; and then not so good - 3 of those 4 are really close together. The fifth (#2) mark is further away from that CG equator on the other side of the ball. # MaxFli Tour X -- not so ok. 5/5 marks were clustered near each other all on one side of the ball and not anywhere near the CG equator. # Chromesoft Truvis -- good(-ish). 5/5 marks were separated apart but all the marks fell on one side/hemisphere of the ball; they were not scattered all around the entire ball. # Top Flite Z-Balata -- poor, as expected. 4/4 marks (#4 not marked) were closely clustered together; effectively into a single spot. Call this one the placebo or "control group" test subject (ie. the float test works!) * Conclusions The MaxFli Tour (not X) at least had its high point nearly along the CG equator, and so when set up using the alignment line (teeing off and putting) it "should" (quote-unquote) perform as advertised; but then the Chromesoft appears to have "won" this test with the float marks the most randomly placed. So... Unless you're going to both float test and spin balance each and every golf ball you play, and grade and mark them, then IMHO .. at the current state of the CG technology .. you're no better / no worse off just playing the "right" ball for you, the one that best fits your overall game. Also considering that each ball manufacturer wants to reduce sidespin, it seems in their interest to continue to refine and improve their production techniques and quality control in order to claim for themselves "CG Balanced". (Side note - it would be interesting to also test the OnCore Elixr and a newer Chromesoft with graphene that have more perimeter-oriented weighting.) End Notes: This was kinda fun and helped me think a little more on just what's inside a golf ball and why it matters. FWIW, I'm going to get some MaxFli Tour in white and try to test those head-to-head vs the Chromesoft Truvis; may also pick up a sleeve of Srixon Q-Star to experiment with, too.

    One word answer and why

schizophrenic I go a month or two and can't break 80, and then I go another month in the upper 70s. Back pain that comes and goes, and inconsistencies caused from a lack of practice are the biggest contributors to the ups and downs in my game. It doesn't help that I am lucky to get in 1 round a week when I am home. But when I visited my parents a few weeks ago I was playing almost every day, and by the end of the trip I was flirting with even par here and there. I'd someday like to break 70 before I am too old to appreciate it. I'd also like to have a hole in one some day too, but that's mostly about luck, and the only type of luck I find is bad, so we all know how that will turn out. Well, I had an eagle a few weeks ago, so it ain't all bad. Oh, and the chip in to save par on Saturday was quite the thrill. Those are the shots that keep me coming back for more abuse. Golf is witchcraft.

    What should I do?

If you are looking for what’s best for your game, go get fit without any biases towards brands. Get the fitters recommendation and then decide. While you can choose brands before getting fit, it is best to be open to everything. I have been surprised by a fitting more than once.
