  1. I can answer this. When a company launches a product it's main concern is getting ample supply out to retail so there is plenty of stock. Nothing worst than building up a new iron and then not being able to supply all the demand. Now, it may seem like how big impact of sending out 4 sets of irons or 4 drivers that go to MGS going to make in the supply to retail. Remember it's not just MGS but a few other forums as well as the growing number of YT reviewers. Add all these together and it could definitely affect initial supply. Also we do over 20 forum testings a year. They have to spread out. Can you imagine us trying to conduct 20 testings all in a month to two month timeframe. We as staff all have other full time job responsibilities and even the thought of trying to select testers for 3 to 4 testings a week is well.... Now all my excuses aside. I am working With one OEM on something very unique and very much what you are asking for. Stay tuned, If it pans out like I think it will, it'll be really really neat.

Next week the daugter and I are taking a quick road trip to the Redwoods. I will pick her up in Eugene and we will stop in Brookings for some crazy fabulous pizza at Zolas. Hard to catch up during the fall as she has a ton going on at school so a road trip will be good to catch up. She will then make it back to Salem (home) for Christmas before she heads out to So Cal for the Rose Bowl as a member of the Ducks marching band. Crazy full schedule with lots of band gigs going on for the media and what not. Bittersweet in a way as the Rose Bowl was my dads favorite bowl game and he would be so proud and maybe a little jealous of her adventure.

Listened to the NPG episode released today. Harry made the comment that Most Wanted testing starts Monday. I am booked to start driver testing on Tuesday. 35ish drivers to go through; sounds like it will take a while. I'm excited!!!

Not in the market, just enjoy testing golf equipment and seeing what is available. I try to ignore the brand and model while doing the testing so I don't think my results are influenced by brand or if I am looking for something.

    How'd you play?

6 over playing off 8, pretty unexpected after not playing for a couple of weeks due to work and back issues, and having my work Christmas party last night. Drove the ball well, irons were the best I've struck them in a long time. For a change my problem was hitting the ball too far with my irons. Putted pretty well. Highlights were a Sand Wedge to 3 inches from 94 yards, and a 330 yard drive after hitting the perfect line to catch a steep slope and then roll a long way. Ended up winning A grade. Really pleased to put a good round together.

  10. Umm, I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but as I reflect, I have no earthly idea what my grip looks like. For my only connection to the club, I really need to diagnose what my grip is, and if it needs changed.

    Sub70 golf

I had my sub 70 hat on at the range today and one of our Mini Tour guys was all over me. He’s very interested in the CBs - that should tell all of us something. I have a friend with those and told the guy I would invite him (my friend) to play a week from Sunday afternoon. He said he’d meet us on the range to try them - my friend has Project x 5.5’s in his so the guy will at least get a feel for them. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Sorry to hear that. Anytime I hear of anyone suffering from cancer or dying from it that kicks me like a size 16 boot in my gut. My son died in 2000 from bone cancer at 21 years old.

  15. ... It really is jlukes. This was one of my first discoveries when I started teaching. Since the grip is your only contact with your clubs it is by far the hardest to change. Moving your feet or changing your posture or ball position and even your swing path is a little awkward but changing the grip is instantly uncomfortable and disorienting. I had several students with poor grips start their first lesson telling me they don't want to change their grip because they tried it with another instructor and it ruined their swing. I was able to get a few to change their minds once I had their confidence but most stuck to their guns and did not want to change. ... That said I have seen some pretty radical grips work for a player, but I do think a proper grip for your swing is a must for consistency as well as minimizing compensations.

Patrick Reed getting into a fight with a fan? LOL. Seriously, that dude should have never been picked for this team. 0-3 this week and just a total waste of a pick. Maybe I am the only one thinking this, but I scratched my head when Tiger picked him, especially after Ryder Cup last year. He sucked there and he sucked here. Anyone thinking he's good for team play must be from a country not named the United States of America.

  23. No apologies necessary Grand. I've hit them both, but did not compare them head to head. That said, some unofficial impressions: They're remarkably similar. Both are silly easy to hit, to the point you really don't want to stop. I like the Wilson long irons a little better, they launch VERY high and go VERY far. I think distance was one of the things Cleveland tried to juice with the new Launcher HB Turbos - despite winning Most Wanted Super Game Improvement, it was not among the longest irons in the test. I like that Wilson is marketing the irons as a specific problem solver - a cure for the chunks. Their target is clearly the golfer who doesn't spend a lot of time on forums and they're hoping "anti-chunk" is the message that gets through. I tell you, there are day... If I were a target golfer, I think I'd be happy with either one. Or the Cobra T-Rail. If you hit both, or all three - let us know what you think.

  25. Learned 3 very important things today. 1. I respond much better to a dynamic warmup with the heavier, red SuperSpeed club. 2. CBD cream works - I forgot to apply it before hitting balls and my elbow flared up. It feels great now that I’ve applied the cream. 3. After playing around with driver, 2 different shafts, a variety of settings the one that my Ping long game fitter fit me for was clearly the best. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  27. I think they've resigned themselves to the fact that they're not going to pick up new viewers and probably lose regular viewers so why not load up the commercials. The time change makes it that much less appealing. I watched the first hour then switched to another show - and occasionally checked the scores on my phone.

    President's Cup 2019

I thought Reed handled himself pretty well given the crowd. Obviously his Caddie didn't but then one can just take so much. Reed and Simpson was a interesting combination. It'd be interesting to hear from Tiger why he paired the two of them together. Neither one of them putted well. Hopefully both play better tonight in the singles matches Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

I’m curious as to why Reed is hated and JT beloved. I honestly don’t see the difference - other than the caught cheating incident. (And that was recent) JT has had fans kicked out of tournaments for cheering against him. To the best of my knowledge Reed has never done that. Both are very streaky but frankly JT doesn’t impress me as a pleasant guy to be around when things aren’t going his way. Reed is consistent edgy win, loose or draw. I’m just not that big a JT fan. Give me the field any day. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  30. I slide out of work early and went to 2nd Swing on the way home. It was only an hour out of the way Hit the 410s with the stock shaft. I actually loved the heavier shaft. Feel was pretty standard for a cast club. Distances were good, comparable to my Steelhead XRs. I really liked them. I also hit the Apex 19 and AP1. I loved the look of the Apex but not the forgiveness. i was more impressed with the AP1 than I thought I would be. I am an old Ping guy though, so the 410s have my interest

  32. I would think that for Brandel's sake and most instructors, 2 of the more difficult moves in the golf swing are turning the club head over, and the in-to-out club path. Of those 2, the club path is probably the hardest to correct so starting with a stronger grip than usual can at least help get the ball off the ground and moving forward for many. I'm not an instructor but I have an eye for grip, swing path, and their impact (literally) on the ball. All of this from breaking down and building up of my own swing like a man possessed. I play with my dad and friends and see a lot of 90° strong action because at some point they were all instructed to do so or somehow it feels more natural. Many repeated times they can't figure out why the duck hook shows up. Then I have to play grip police and remind them to go more neutral and it works. The great thing about the grip is that it can be a fine tuning mechanism for when the rest of your swing seems to be stuck in the mud. Normally I try to keep a neutral to 1 o'clock strong grip. If my shoulders or hips are playing lazy, I can just move to a 2 or 3 o'clock strong and it seems to do the trick. Once the rest of me is warmed up, back to 1 o'clock. the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

  33. A few months ago I had stopped for lunch and was pursuing eBay and saw Mizuno MP 5’s 3-P 8.5 condition for $24 with less than 24 hours to go. I bid $124 and moved on. At the time I had some fairly new Hogan Ft Worth 15’s that was very happy with. I expected to continue playing the Hogan’s for some time. I was shocked the next morning to have won the bid at $107. These MP5’s are so easy to hit. To the point that the MP5 3 iron has replaced my MP FLI HI 3 iron that has been in the bag for 7 years. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

  38. Here's my opinion on a strong grip. I know nobody asked for it, but here it is anyway. People can play a strong grip, but in doing so it's compensating for some other swing issue. Yes, some pros play a strong grip but Hey! they are pros and practice their swing a lot more than most of us. Why do I think it's a problem? A strong grip tends to close the club face; that's why we've been told to do it... to help fix a problem. The direction of the ball is primarily determined by where the club face is pointed at impact, and we all know by now what happens if the club face is open or closed relative to the path. Yes, it's possible to slice with a closed club face; I did it for years! Sure, a closed face can be played straight but it requires other things to happen in fractions of a second in the downswing; fast body rotation and/or hand manipulation. Most amateurs have a hard time repeating a swing anyway without including other compensations; I know I do!! If you have strong grip for your full swing, do you also use it for short game swings; chipping, pitching, bunker play? Ahh, bunkers... when in a bunker, open up the club face then take your grip, right? If that grip is strong, the result is likely delofting the club that you just opened up and the leading edge of the club digs. If you use a more neutral grip for short game, then you have introduced variability in your swing... do you always use the same grip for each shot, or is it slightly different than the last grip you used? As I said before, I prefer a neutral grip because if I can get back to square at impact, I know the ball will head toward my target. If it doesn't, it's because I did something wrong in the backswing, transition, or downswing that needs to be fixed. I can deal with that. If I start out with a grip that closes the club face at impact, I have introduced another variable that makes it difficult to get my swing on plane. OK, ramblings of an old man has stopped. Sorry for the interruption, please continue.

  41. Had a literally 50-50 range session yesterday, evenly split b/w... "Whoa! That was good!" and "Whoa! WTF!!” 7i and down were firmly in the first category while all the longer clubs were the WTFs..... (..an interesting flip-flip from my last few on-course experiences). But I credit the good stuff to recent lessons (at a Golftec; informal review to be posted soon) so I plan on practicing practicing practicing the scoring clubs (while expanding the lesson scope to the longer clubs). And, yes - all the while continuing to work on the short game and on putting!

We are having our annual Italian Christmas fish feast (dinner) this weekend. It's a celebration that started over a century ago when my mom's side of the family were back in Italy. The feast has grown and the date has changed from Christmas, to Christmas Eve-eve, to now a week and a half before Christmas but the joy and the celebration remain the same.

  43. I use to play with a neutral grip and then my instructor converted me to a strong grip. It played havoc with my game for about a month this past summer - but I'm glad I changed it. Definitely had positive results by the end of the season.

  49. There is a plus to the sh!tty Golf Channel coverage - I felt no guilt in turning the crap off at my normal bed time the last two nights, so I got a decent amount of sleep when I was expecting to come to work tired. Some moron producer from Golf Channel felt the need to explain on Twitter how commercials work - it didn't end well for her. It seems clear to me that they have zero interest in attempting to grab new viewers. If the hard core fans can barely watch it, how do they think they are going to keep the interest of someone new? I wish the Masters would take over production of every event.
