  3. So I am back from my fitting. Not even sure where to start as this was like no other experience that I have had getting fit for golf clubs. I guess first, my apologies as I didn’t take any pictures. The fitting was fun but very business like which was a good thing. The first comment that I can make is that the studio and the technology was top notch and the fitter was one of the best that I have ever dealt with. Name a shaft, any shaft and they more than likely have it available to hit. The second comment would be that I left with a bag that if I had my pick to start I wouldn’t have ended up where I did. This is not a bad thing at all and we actually built a bag that has purpose behind it. My main goal going in was irons that flight down and hitting fairways. Also wanted to see if I could do graphite through the bag as an option. So what did I get. Let’s go top down.... Driver: I went with the 0811 XF with a Graphite Design AD VR 6x. We went with the 10.5* head lofted down to 9* to get the open look at address. I was impressed that the fitter was not only able to get me into a driver that ticked all the boxes for me. Ball speed was in the mid 160s with great launch and spin numbers. 3 wood: This was one that we spent a lot of time on to get right. I wanted something that was a low spin monster off the tee but I could launch up when I needed it to. Talk about two polar opposite asks on this one. I lost count of the shafts that I hit but started with a HZRDUS Yellow smile, a Fuji TS, Atmos, and a few Graphite Design shafts before settling on the final combo. Ended up with an 0341x with the low spin setting and a Graphite Design AD TP 7x. Hybrid: Was between hybrid and five wood going in and once I saw the hybrid I was sold. These clubs just look great at address. This may have been the easiest to fit with just one shaft and I was sold. Went with the 19* 0317x with a KBS Proto 95x. Irons: This was the part I got completely wrong in what I wanted coming in. I was thinking of a blended set between the P model and the T model with graphite. The only pet that was right was it was a blended set. I went with the 0311 T in the 4,5 and 6 with 0311 ST in the 7,8,9 and PW. For gapping the ST will be bent 1* strong. The shafts we went with were KBS $ Taper 130x and that was a shock to me. We tried every graphite option they had and we just could not get the desired launch, spin and peak height into the window that I wanted. My goal is to flight the ball lower and I think we built a set that stock shots fly where I want them and I can still hit them up if I need to. Wedges: Went with the new Sugar Daddy wedges in 50*, 54* and 60*. The 50 has the $ Taper 130x and the 54 and 60 have TTDG S400s. I will say that the 58* with 7* of bounce shocked with with just how versatile it is. The grind is very unique and it was the shock of the bag to me. Putter: Gen 2 Spitfire with a double bend shaft at 34”. Was the best of the lot for me and really was just a throw in to get the full back deal. Come spring and my T Squared is back in the bag. Well the last thing that anyone needs to talk about with PXG is price. I am not putting this out there for any other reason than for knowledge and comparison. I did the full bag promo that was 14 unique clubs, a bag and a hat which was just under $6k with the Sugar Daddy wedges. If you go with the forged wedges the price is about $500 lower. The shafts in the top end of the bag were a slight upcharge but much less than half of what other OEMs charge for the same shaft. Overall I am happy with the experience and have a bag that was built top to bottom for what I wanted and my game. For me, this was a once in a lifetime shot to do something that I always wanted to do and PXG did not disappoint. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. ... Pretty much the same for me. I have run across a handful of players thru the years that talk about how far they hit their irons, but all of them swung out of their shoes attempting to achieve max distance with every swing. Conversely those that actual hit their irons very far by technique and ability never talked about distance or their equipment and in some cases were amazingly ignorant about their equipment. I have always felt that distance claims are made by OEM's and not golfers, at least the majority of golfers. Outside of golf forums I am amazed at how little knowledge even really good players seem to have. It is certainly not uncommon for me to ask what shaft someone has in any given club and get "stiff flex" as a response yet oblivious to what kind of shaft they are playing. ... It is the same reason OEM's offer 46" shafts in their drivers, not because golfers hit them farther but because their Iron Byron hits them farther and they can make distance claims in their ads. Fwiw, I don't blame the OEMs because they have to keep up. I have talked to more than a few engineers that roll their at distance claims because they are trying to produce the best driver they can taking into consideration spin, trajectory, forgiveness, sound, feel and at least enough distance to be competitive. If they are 2.1yds shorter than the #1 driver they really could not care less as long as all the other qualities are there. Sales VP's are another story ... ... But back to irons, PXG and TaylorMade P790's created a new category of irons that looked good at address (and for some in the bag) were the right size and shape, amazingly forgiving for a players iron and produced added distance. I was not a candidate for a distance iron but after hitting the P790's I fell in love with the entire package. The added distance took some adjusting but the look at address, feel and forgiveness won me over. Obviously sales tell the story and other OEM's have no choice but to compete with their own players distance irons so I completely understand Titlest releasing the T100-S model.

  5. Interesting, I play ALOT of golf with a lot of different people, both that I know and random people I get paired up with and I have never heard anyone BRAG about how far they a 7 iron. Now occasionaly I will hear bar room talk about driver lengths, but never hear in regards to an iron. The number on the bottom mean next to nothing to most everyone I play with.

  6. I'm a high swing speed player fit into players irons (jpx 919 Tours) and guess what? My world renowned fitter fit me to have them bent strong. Why? Because stronger lofts give me optimal launch, peak height and landing angle. Jason Day plays his irons strong. And guess what? It has nothing to do with distance

  16. I received mine yesterday. I’m going to be a bit redundant, but it is a critical point. I caddie/coach/play and fit. My exposure to technology in Golf has brought me to a cynical beginning perspective. There was a time when I thought Trackman was the greatest thing since Titleist introduced the Professional. Nowadays I’m much more “it’s going to have to make the game better/faster on a $1=$1 basis”. In other words, I would spend my hard earned money with Arccos, I am impressed with Mizuno’s shaft optimizer, and I would invest in the company that is going to bring non-conforming equipment to the general golfer I meet that swings it 80 mph. I’m testing this against the whole arsenal. Bushnell, the best app’s on my iPhone, and Strackaline pin sheets in addition to yardages that are on sprinkler heads. It’s going to have to do a whole lot for me to say “go spend $300 and buy a yearly membership”.

  18. The way I’ve read the mgs info in the op, Jonathan walls article and the the info on titleist page. That was happening in fittings and sounds like they were looking at spec sheets coming thru or talking to their fitters and got the feedback that led them to decide to offer another option with stronger lofts and a sole to go with that change plus the cg to get the right launch. We know for some golfers when they go strong the leading edge becomes an issue due to the bounce change. So maybe that was in the feedback too saying we have customers that need/want that stronger lofts but we can’t get them into the club they like because of the leading edge.

  24. Just received the SX400 today, got it setup, and played around with it in demo mode. I won't say anything about initial impressions, but I can at least answer your questions. Yes, there is a subscription required and there are multiple options to bundle the subscription or you can purchase the device by itself (for current subscribers simply making an upgrade). Yes, the SX400 does provide shot tracking, but you have to tag each shot. Based on what I've seen so far (again just playing with demo mode), it doesn't look like tracked shots will be stored like they would with Arccos, ShotScope, or any number of phone apps. I'll be sure to update if I discover otherwise once I get this out on the course. I do have a laser rangefinder available to me via friend so I can test accuracy, but I think the better comparison will be to download a small handful of phone apps and run them side-by-side. I've used a number of different apps in the past and always found them to be clunky. I'll be interested in finding out if my experience with the SX400 is any better. I am extremely interested in doing everything I can to answer this question. There are a lot of options available when looking to spend $300.

  27. I love the symmetry of your numbers. Although I'm not gaining much on the right side anymore, my left side continues to get faster. I would love to see my left side catch completely up like yours. Glad you are getting great results with Fit For Golf. I'm not doing Mike's SuperSpeed workout, but I've transitioned to mixing his offseason program stretching with heavy compound lifts and the original SS protocols. So far, so good.

... Knowledge is power and ignorance is bliss, especially when it comes to golf swings and equipment. I have always been meticulous about club specs going back to Flo and Spine when installing new shafts when QC mandated it. So I have 2 stories for you: I always played my driver at D1 after finding that weight worked best for my swing. 2 years ago in Phoenix for the winter I did not have access to my workshop and about a month before coming home I picked up a new shaft to try in my F8. I installed it and it felt a hair heavy but I took it to the course and hit it very well. I continued to hit it well for the remainder of my time there. I came home and curious as to the swing weight, I measured it and was surprised to find it was D7!?! That is just way heavier than I have ever played. Took it out for my first round back in Chicago and it felt like a sledgehammer. Same driver I played well with in Phoenix that was a hair heavy was now too heavy and unplayable. Nothing changed but my knowledge of the specs. Long story short, some remember Fred Couples taking a thru bore Ram 3 wood from Tom Watsons trunk and playing it in some tournaments and just killing it. Talking to a reporter after a round he stated it was the best 3 wood he ever owned. Watson heard that and next time he saw Freddie said he was surprised he was hitting an R Flex shaft so well. Freddie thought it was an X flex and after that sprayed it all over the course, they re-shafted it but never found the magic again. Nothing changed but his knowledge of the specs. ... So experiment away and if you find something that works DO NOT check your specs.

  31. That very well could be. Somewhere earlier in this thread it was mentioned that SuperSpeed also saw similar results when people only trained two days versus three. For me personally I always tried to do three days a week as a tester but my fastest days were definitely Mondays after having two days of rest over the weekend. To be honest I got kind of bored with the regular SS protocols. I stopped the program over the summer but picked the sticks back up again about a month ago when I started the Fit for Golf SuperSpeed program. Not sure how familiar people are with it but it's a strength and conditioning program that incorporates the SS set before you move on to the weight portion of the workout. The SS portion is much shorter (36 swings each workout vs 57 for Levels 2 and 3 of the SS protocol) but I feel the overall gains when you include the strength and conditioning portion are greater for your total game than simply doing SS alone. After taking May through December off I was definitely a little slower with my swings but I'm very close to the max levels I saw after 26 weeks of the SuperSpeed protocol. I just completed by 4th week of the Fit for Golf program this morning which consisted of 12 total workouts. Here are my numbers. The SuperSpeed sticks definitely work but after seeing the results of my new program I think there are different ways each person can maximize their potential. I purposely didn't include my driver swing speed because I haven't been able to test it fully yet. Swinging with no ball I saw a very high number using the SS Radar but I don't want to get my hopes up in case that was an outlier. I have simulator time booked for next Wednesday so we'll see what the Trackman numbers show then.

  32. Listening to Michael Breed this morning, he brought up a question for his listeners to chime in on and I thought it was an interesting question. So with apologies to Micheal for stealing his idea, let's hear your thoughts. So answer the poll above, and leave your reasons below. The topic was centered around Phil Mickelson, whether he'll play the US Senior Open this year---My Goodness, is he really 50?---or play the Travelers Championship being held the same week. Pros for the US Senior Open-It would be his first major as a Senior, it's at Newport Country Club--and if he won in some small way it would be a consolation prize for not winning a US Open. No, it wouldn't give him the Career Grand Slam. Pros for the Travelers-Annually one of the best tournaments of the year for the players, their families and caddies, in the way they are treated. Usually a strong field, and more importantly a win or good finish would help his point total toward the Ryder Cup.

  33. So, a quick update from a test draft your commishes did earlier today. The queue list will work for you if you have "pick from queue first" selected. Second, while there are 4 copies of each player, you cannot draft the same player more than once to your roster. We are working on repairing a bug that prevents two of the same player to exist on the same roster through trades and the like. Also, a final reminder PRERANK YOUR PLAYERS IF YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO JOIN US THIS EVENING

  35. You summed a lot of my experience in talking to players that come into my office at our course on a daily basis. From scratch guys to the higher handicaps, they are generally very uninformed on just about everything related to irons. On drivers they know the big ones that are seen on tV or front and center in some of the big box, but yeah shafts, they generally only think flex and nothing else.

  36. The interesting comment I’ve seen in several platforms and I guess it’s somewhat from titleist as they state the 100s are players distance irons is titleist needed to have these to compete with the other players distance irons out there and such. Titleist had that already in the t200 which they state on their website are designed to help the better players score better. Other than the pw these are at least 1-2* weaker than the t200. imo they didn’t need another distance iron but rather they are listening to feedback and addressing consumer demand. How many times do we see people say that they wish a company would have done something in a release or if they could have made club x be like club y in some aspect be it looks, sound, etc and it doesn’t happen til the next release. Now we have a brand especially one known for sticking to standard release cycles, traditional type clubs and perceived marketing toward a certain type of golfer stepping outside of that and delivering almost on demand what the consumer wants less than 6 months after a release & the move gets questioned.

  40. I don’t look at conference records for the bowl games. I just want to see good football games and I Don’t really care who wins at that point. I thought Michigan played a great game against Alabama, it was a well played game, and if Patterson could have made the throws on a couple of those overthrows the final score would have been closer, not saying Mich would’ve won, but it would have been closer. I think there were other games vs SEC teams that very good close games as well. They were 9-2 but could have been 6-5. I just want competitive bowl games. Who wants to watch 35-0 in a bowl game

  41. When I was fit for the PING G410's for testing, they did the same for me. I was put into the strong lofted irons to help with ball flight, not distance. That being said, I think I will be first in line to try these! They look fantastic and seems to be everything I am looking for in a club. But...gotta hit them first.

  44. There is an annual subscription that boils down to 3 annual plans. Statewide ($30), countrywide ($50), or worldwide access ($60), with incentives for buying multiyear subscriptions. Since I live on the border of two states and I play golf in both, I would lean towards the countrywide subscription. Skycaddie was very generous to provide us with a worldwide subscription for this test. If you guys know some people who know some people, I will be HAPPY to test out the traveling option in other countries. SkyGolf (parent company) claims on the website that this device will track stats, I haven't dug in to figure out how detailed or the nature of the stat collection. I will find out and report on that during this review. If only Maryland were a little closer the Carolinas....if I ship my Skycaddie to you, will you send it back with a burger? Well the Skycaddie doesn't accept phone calls nor text messages, so that's a start? I think that by the end of this test the accuracy and ease of use will be key. I have used a number of phone apps, especially when I started swinging the sticks 4 years ago, and I gravitated away from using phone apps. I am planning on having a direct head-to-head using what the course gives us. Physical markers, sprinkler heads, scorecard measurements etc. While doing that I will take note of the markers, as well as scorecard measurements to judge for accuracy. If I can get the okay--I've got an additional plan to judge for accuracy.

  45. While I have yet to receive mine. I have tried a number of the golf GPS apps and found them all wanting. They drain your battery, the screen is hard to see in the day light, They tend to lag and be glichy and crash all the time due to the amount of data required and if your in a spot where service is spotty or none existent they don't work at all. Of all the apps that I have tried, golflogix was the best and head the best features, but even that was not as accurate as I would hoped. Looking at the features online for skycaddie there are a few things I am excited for. An easy to see and read screen, the ability to plug in your club distances to get recommendations, plus, I like the idea of the skycaddie course maps having been ground verified for yardages. I like that it is a stand alone unit so I do not have to rely on my phone.
