    How'd you play?

Shot 79 today Played with a buddy who shot 85 and guys who shot 71 and 68 from the tips. One is a mini tour player who won an event with a 66 Monday and the other was a Mackenzie Tour guy who lost status when he got hurt. My favorite moment was on 17 when the one asked me if I thought the shot was 15 yards longer because of wind and uphill - I said, yes, he hit 4 iron, cut against the wind to 15 feet. He hit an 8 iron the other way on a par 5 to 30 feet earlier in the round. Obviously we played different tees - proper tees though - on 15 he had 162 and hit PW - I hit GW from my tee and it had the same loft - we each missed our 8 footer for bird, It was a fun day. 6. Just got mine in. I don't notice a difference in the feel of the covers in my hands, but the "dimple in a dimple" appears less pronounced in the prototypes? Pictures below for reference. Left is the 2018, and right is from the balls I was sent to test. I'm no professional photographer as you can tell, and I tried my best to have the light shine from a consistent angle, but every which way I position the balls, or my phone camera the result is the same On the subject of durability, if it's anything like the 2018 version it will be VERY durable.

  8. Not directly golf but golf related. Went yesterday and got some cold weather gear and two nice pairs of running shoes. Started the first week of January at 2 miles a day then up to three and now up to 4 a day. My goal is to walk the course as much as I can this year and maybe drop a few pounds along the way. Did a little over 4 miles today in 20* temps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. There was a forum started that goes over some of the Fit for Golf programs. I haven't looked at it much lately but people should be able to find out some basic information about Mike Carroll's programs here: None of the exercises are shocking to think about in a golf sense, but Mike does a great job putting together an easy to follow program with videos to help proper technique. If you follow them as prescribed you will definitely improve your golf fitness.

  11. Bucky tell us more about Fit for Golf - like others I’ve become convinced that there needs to be a fitness element to maximize or at my age keep gains. @tchat07 SuperSpeed told us that their data suggested that twice a week is sufficient. I’m reading data that suggests fewer swings are just as effective and much safer. Like Bucky I followed their rules while being their tester. I’ve started workouts again in the New Year so I just finished my third week. I’m doing twice a week. Today was the first time that I used the radar (it was missing - we found it when we put away the Christmas decorations.) It does make a difference - I quickly got my speeds up once I could see how fast (slow) I was swinging. By the end of the workout I was right at where I was the end of level one as a tester - 114,109,101 RH. LH was someone like 113,101,99. That corresponds to where I’m at on the course - longer than when I started, off where I was at last Spring when I was at my peak numbers - low 120’s with the green, Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

80 3/14 FiR 7/18 GiR 32 Putts I couldn't find water in the ocean with driver today and it hurt my score for sure. Then, my bag broke when I lifted it into my trunk. Pretty disappointed in Sun Mountain after such great forum member reviews prior to me getting one. Guess they don't make em like they used to? The nylon or whatever it is that connects the handle to the front of the bag totally disintegrated -- guess I'm in the market for a new one.

Really bad day... frustrating when I play poor golf in nice weather on a good course. We played Cimarron GC with my wife's brother again. We have played it many times. A wide open course with no trees, no wind, but I still managed to find a few very deep bunkers. Another terrible round for my short game.; I swear putts were breaking uphill; I could not read the break today, and gee whiz the putts sure did break. There was slope but not a lot of undulations in the greens. They were a little slower than yesterday's greens which made the putts break hard when the ball slowed down. Shot 89 with NO pars on the back nine. I hope I can figure out these greens in the next day or two... so frustrating!!

We are staying next door to Terra Lago. Played both courses many times, but it's been more than 7-8 years since last time. We are here for another 12 days so we will likely play them several times. My wife's sister-in-law and her husband stay in a house by Shadow Hills. We played there with them 2 years ago. He is a member at the Yakima CC in Yakima, WA. He has had some health problems, and they won't arrive until until two days before we leave. We might get a round in with them before we fly home.

  17. I just had a trade offer cancelled by Fantrax because it said a player involved in the offer was including in a different transaction. I offered Justin Rose to Golfermarcus but apparently Fantrax terminated it when Rose was traded in the Chunks - Blackngold_blood swap. My workaround was to resubmitt the original trade since Rose is still on my roster but it might be something to ask the Fantrax admins about. Do they have a difficult time distinguishing owners when someone can be on 4 different teams?

    FlightScope Mevo+

Milwaukee isn't very big but our winters are very long and cold. The $55/hr place will die quickly if they try to charge those rates during the warm weather months. There are other places that use cheaper simulators and only charge $35/hour to play. We'll keep those places quite though so it will be easier to justify to my wife that spending money to drywall the garage and buy a Mevo+ or Skytrak is a good idea!

  24. ... Oh boy do 845's bring back memories. I was on staff with Tommy Armour and played the 845's for a couple of seasons. Ironically we were cleaning out the basement last weekend and found my old Tommy Armour Staff bag and Lite Staff bag I used to teach out of. I put quite a few students into those irons that as best I can remember were offered with Tour Step shafts, the first light weight steel shafts (110 or 115gms?) that fit a wide variety of players much better than the 130gm DG's that were so popular at that time. I drilled out the top of my hosel and put on ferrules basically because Fred Couples had ferrules on his and I thought they looked much better. For what were considered players irons at that time, they surprisingly had quite a bit of offset. I actually played a full set of 12 Tommy Armour 845's and loved their 60* wedge (my first) that had a much thinner sole than many 60* wedges at that time. ... They also had 3 lie angles with standard, upright and flat designated on the hosel. One of my students that I measured at standard lie, if not a hair flat, had a couple hundred dollars in credit at a Skokie Illinois Golf Shop and showed up for his lesson with upright 845's. Seems they fit him at the store and told him he needed upright irons. I reassured him he did not need upright and told him to take them back and exchange them. Turns out they refused to return them saying he had hit the 7 iron. I contacted Tommy Armour and found out they had not paid their bill so could not order more and only had upright irons in stock. Going well above and beyond, Tommy Armour exchanged them and put him in the proper standard lie. Good people.

  28. I mentioned in the happy thread I believe that Johnathan Wall posted some goodness about Sergio with mostly a PING bag. Besides two Taylormade FW Metals, its all PING. I think this is a great move for Sergio if he is looking for a new sponsor, or even stay a free agent. A lot of grumbling about how people think him and Callaway split. Yes, a bit of a temper, but I highly doubt that was the only reason. Being a dad, with all of the marketing commitments would be tiresome with a tour players schedule. Adding another great player to the stable for PING seems like great advertisement, especially when he is playing on the European Tour events. I’m not a businessman, but this seems like a no brainer. And... he isn’t playing too bad with the PING sticks either. Obviously just my opinion, but it seems to have the makings of a long time partnership. What do you all make of it?

  30. Alright, so I literally just got in the door from doing some testing on Trackman. I went by Haas Family Golf in Greenville, SC and spent some time with Daniel Clemmons, their in house master fitter. If any of you in the upstate SC area are looking for a fitter and/or lessons, give this guy a call. Very knowledgeable and super nice as well. Anyhow, results are below comparing my 6th gen Srixon ZStar vs the proto Bridgestone Tour B XS. CHS / Ball Speed / Smash / Launch / Spin / Carry Driver Z Star - 112.7 / 165.6 / 1.47 / 8.3 / 1909 / 263.2 yds B XS - 113.5 / 168.1 / 1.48 / 8.4 / 2917 / 280.2 yds 7 iron Z Star - 91.2 / 118.6 / 1.30 / 18.3 / 6966 / 166 yds B XS - 91.3 / 120 / 1.32 / 17.5 / 6725 / 170.1 yds GW - Note: was trying to hit my 100 yard approach, not full swing. I started getting a little flippy with the B XS in this comparison due to fatigue, which you’ll see with the numbers. Z Star - 81.9 / 79.9 / .98 / 27.1 / 10383 / 97.5 yds B XS - 82.9 / 78.3 / .95 / 29.2 / 10579 / 94.7 yds I realize 2900 rpm spin with a driver is a bit higher than ideal, but I’ve always had a negative angle of attack with my driver as you’ll notice with my lower launch angles. Today I averaged -2.6 degrees. But I picked up almost 3 mph in ball speed and 17 yards of carry. That’s including one that was low on the face and only carried 270. The other drives were all between 283.6-284.5. If I take the one low out, the avg jumps 20 yards. The feel off the driver is a touch firmer than the Z Star, but was negligible with the 7i and GW. Needless to say, I’m itching to get on the course with this revelation today. If nothing else, this has shown why ball fitting may be just as important as club fitting. Initial impressions: wow!

At 68 I still manage to shoot in the mid 70s to mid 80s depends on what body part is hurting that day... Started playing at 29 and turned pro at 39 (needed a job at that time so I figured what the heck... why not... Not playing at the moment.. mother nature has other ideas as to what I should be doing... once it warms up I'll get back to it (16* for a high yesterday) Looking forward to the new equipment reviews and such... wouldn't mind testing for MGS if I was asked Peace

I’d love to see everything from distance off the tee, and with irons, then all of the spin stuff on approaches, around the greens, etc. Spin consistency and control seems to be the story from posts by folks on Twitter and Instagram. 37. The star means they're counting towards your best 4, the check means they're playing in the upcoming event. With all zeros, it'll look a little funny but I expect it to sort out once events start happening. I guess it's good to see the check since it's more professional but a small piece of me misses the lettuce logo it used to look like.

  39. A brown box from Bridgestone. Whatever could this be? YESSSSSSSS! It’s golf ball testing time! This is totally awesome. Several prototype boxes, all containing two Bridgestone Tour B XS golf balls. I feel more like Tiger already. Don't go trying to steal these bad boys. You’ve been warned. What happens if/when I lose one...? These look and feel amazing. I just went from no weekend plans to Saturday morning golf! I can’t wait to see how these perform. The prior generation were a great ball, I’m curious what changes Bridgestone has made. I’ll have to see if I can dig up any of the old ones from my bag, Bridgestone has never been my gamer. No idea if these will be the right ball for me, but I must say that having done the fitting video with Bridgestone, I’m feeling a bit of extra confidence in these babies. We also have a Bridgestone rep coming out to fit the golf team with balls soon, it will be interesting to see if their findings are the same! To the course!

  41. It's been rainy here the last couple of weekends and I haven't been able to get out and practice, until today. It was a beautiful, dry, 43 degree day and ripe for a range session. Today while hitting, I met a man named W.T. who was working at the course and he asked if he could give me a little advice. He told me he once was on the path to be certified to be a teacher, but with his first child on the way his wife gave him a choice, diapers or golf. A wise man, he chose diapers. He told me my swing looked good, but I needed to move the ball back a hair (8 iron) and to start the swing just a little more to the inside. Now, to be honest, I tend to hit the ball all over the face of my club. Shot 1: dead center. Shot 2: dead center. I hit a total of six shots that were just stacked. I was using spray powder to see where I was hitting and I wish I would have taken a photo. I will say that he had never thought about using spray powder and that he has always used impact tape, so I guess I was able to return the favor and teach him something. I moved on to driver after he walked back over to the maintenance shop and hit some pretty nice shots into an area of the range I designated as a fairway. To give an idea of how much I improved, here's a photo from December 31 of how I was hitting areas from center to toe. Here's my shots from today, I still need to work on consistency up and down, but I'm not getting shots coming off the toe or heel. I'm hoping since I'm off next week I can get back out and see if I can replicate the magic both on the range and the course, weather permitting. He did give me a drill I can work on even indoors to keep the feeling I was getting today. I know you all have heard of holding a basketball and rotating with it. I plan on practicing it a lot to get the correct feeling on the takeaway. I have been working on the extreme inside takeaway I used to have and think I had over compensated leading me to coming back too far outside. Sent from my SM-N975U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  43. I can tell you how to tell if there are 4 or not, but I haven't figured out how to get the exact amount yet. Edit: I lied, yes I can. Click on the player and scroll far right on the tabs toward the top of their player card, until you see "Ownership." Click on the ownership tab and you can see who all owns the player. Not super efficient, but it only takes about 5-10 seconds.

The weather has been horrible here lately as you have read in may posts, but I have played fairly well anyway for the conditions. Apparently, I play worse when conditions are ideal. My wife and I flew out of snow and 16º on Wednesday, and yesterday we played Indian Canyons GC North Course in Palm Springs. Sunny and 68º with no wind... shot 87. But it was the short game that left me. Front 9 par 35 was +11... back 9 par 37 was +4 for a smooth 87. On the front 9 I couldn't get the speed right and I didn't know where Indio was, even though I've played this course many times. Hopefully, I got the "after travel bad round" out of my system. 12 more days until we fly home. View from behind the #9 green, and my wife and I with her brother on the left.

  48. That very well could be. Somewhere earlier in this thread it was mentioned that SuperSpeed also saw similar results when people only trained two days versus three. For me personally I always tried to do three days a week as a tester but my fastest days were definitely Mondays after having two days of rest over the weekend. To be honest I got kind of bored with the regular SS protocols. I stopped the program over the summer but picked the sticks back up again about a month ago when I started the Fit for Golf SuperSpeed program. Not sure how familiar people are with it but it's a strength and conditioning program that incorporates the SS set before you move on to the weight portion of the workout. The SS portion is much shorter (36 swings each workout vs 57 for Levels 2 and 3 of the SS protocol) but I feel the overall gains when you include the strength and conditioning portion are greater for your total game than simply doing SS alone. After taking May through December off I was definitely a little slower with my swings but I'm very close to the max levels I saw after 26 weeks of the SuperSpeed protocol. I just completed by 4th week of the Fit for Golf program this morning which consisted of 12 total workouts. Here are my numbers. The SuperSpeed sticks definitely work but after seeing the results of my new program I think there are different ways each person can maximize their potential. I purposely didn't include my driver swing speed because I haven't been able to test it fully yet. Swinging with no ball I saw a very high number using the SS Radar but I don't want to get my hopes up in case that was an outlier. I have simulator time booked for next Wednesday so we'll see what the Trackman numbers show then.
