  1. Went to the shop today because I have $150 in credit to burn and my bag broke after my last round. Looked at the Hoofers this year and while they're a nice upgrade over the Hoofer I had 3 years ago, the colors just didn't do it for me. Maybe if they just made a simple all black one I would've scooped it up. Ended up on the internets looking for bags and found that Neiman Marcus sells Vessel. Signed up for a 15% coupon off my first purchase and much to my surprise, it was applicable to the order. Free 2-day shipping from Shoprunner and I'm the proud owner of a new Vessel Player 2.0 for not much more than I was about to pay for that Hoofer

  2. Got out for 18 yesterday, and put the BXS into play using arccos to track yardage. Absolutely smoked my tee shot on #1, right at 300 yards. I’ve been gaming ProV1 lately (it was a good Christmas), and typically that gets me a little more yardage off the tee, but I can’t complain with 300. The fun really came into play when using short irons and wedges on approach shots. Either I was swinging well, or the Bridgestone fitting video works. Maybe a bit of both. The yardages were dead on what I was trying to play them. I was pin high or just slightly beyond on pretty much every short iron I didn’t chunk. 9 iron checked up nicely and spun no more than a yard back. 55 degree wedge got quite spinny on some, including a 15 yard yank back on a downhill par 3 lie. I can definitely be aggressive with approach shots with this ball knowing that, if I hit it well (albeit sometimes a big if) it is going to do what I want it to do. Putting was one area that took some time. It could have been I was a little off, but having played this particular course a lot, the ball seemed to move quicker off the putter than I’m used to. It held a line really well, which actually frustrated me when I needed it to start turning. Once I got the pace down it rolled very consistent, and will just take some adjustment from what I’m used to on break. The feel of the ball on full swings was my favorite part. It’s hard to describe, but it just felt right. It was not soft or firm, but responsive. You could feel mishits, but they weren’t punishing. Putting a pure swing on the ball gave you that million dollar “I’m never giving up this game” feeling. Let’s put it this way, I had so much fun gaming this ball I totally forgot to take any pictures over the course of the round. Were it not for one particularly bad swing costing me a penalty stroke, I was having the round of my life! Excited to get the ball back out on the course tomorrow. I’d love to hear what type of information everyone would like feedback on. So far, I’m liking this ball!

    How'd you play?

Played a course in Indio that I had never played before. I had heard good things about it 2 years ago, and I met a guy on Thursday that just played it and said it was great. So today my wife and I decided to give it a try... Eagle Falls GC at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino. It's just down the street from where we are staying at Terra Lago. Shot 84 which is better than my two previous rounds down here in the sun; even had a birdie!. The course is 24 feet below sea level according to my iPhone altimeter. Shortest drives I have ever had!! I added 2 extra clubs for the distance just to get close to the green!! I played better because the "everything breaks towards Indio" mantra doesn't apply when you are in Indio. My putts were more online but I struggled a little with speed. The greens were the slowest i have played on the past two days; rolled nice, just a little slow. The round didn't start out very well... the starter was an a-hole; worst starter I have ever met on the road. Apparently, he is a woman-hater, because he was a complete jerk to my wife. Everyone else was very nice, including the marshal. There were 3 foursomes of guys in front of us that were very slow; some party, I guess. The round took 4 hours and 50 minutes. Terrible after our 3:40 round on Thursday. I wished we were in front of them. Eagle Falls is a nice layout, but the fairways are undulating. Being a short hitter at that altitude, landing into an upslope meant no roll in the fairway. I hit mostly FW and hybrids for approach shots even though there were many short par 4's. Nice waterfall on #18.

  5. Except Phil knowingly and willingly broke the rules at the US Open when he putted a moving ball, and yet he wasn't DQ'd. The Reed situation should no longer be a story. He was assessed a penalty, which he accepted. That's it. Story's done. All he did was offer his side of the story for context. The video evidence was not nearly as damaging as you are claiming it to be. It's one angle, directly behind, which does not give a clear indication of exactly where the sand he brushed back was in relation to his ball. His explanation was more than plausible. He accepted his penalty regardless of that. There's nothing else to be said about it. Sent from my Pixel 2 using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  6. In my recent iron fitting I also looked at what to have in the bag between driver and 4 iron. Going with just my Exotics EX-9 Long set at 15* as it hits the gap below driver just right. There’s really no need to have anything between the Z585 4 iron and the Exotics, so this is the set-up starting 2020. I’m going with the Flash SZ set at 9*, up from 8*, because my spin on Trackman was showing to be 1700-1900, and that’s too low. I’m going to see if setting it at 9* keeps my launch ok, and spin just over 2000. 7. 39 degrees yesterday and wet underfoot. Glad to say this winter golf run of good play continues, wonder if wearing 4 layers incl supression top is keeping my swing tighter. Anyway, gross 72, 4 birdies and only missed 3 fairways. Decided to choke down an inch on driver and it was superb. Putter also hot after standing taller to max the 34.5" shaft and have the blade flatter on the green, 29 putts which is awesome for me.

    How'd you play?

Played poorly again, but was going into the round under prepared and to be honest, using it for recreation. New role at work has been flat out, my current role hasn’t been filled so 2 jobs at once has been draining. Another week of madness and things should settle down. Hit the pin 3 times during the round, but none dropped. Big bonus of the new role is working 1 afternoon shift a week, so I’ll be able to get an extra round in.

    2020 drivers!

I am through 20 drivers (19 more to go) as part of most wanted testing. A few a just not for me due to poor performance.....PXG X, Titleist TS3, Tommy Armour 845, Tour Edge, Cleveland, and a few others. Mavrik, TM, Cobra are solid performers and could find a place in my bag. The surprise driver of so far is the Honma XP-1. Too costly for me, but it worked for my swing and my typical mishit (high/high toe).

    How'd you play?

... Changing your behavior is a learned skill. I was lucky because at an early age I played Qb and when I threw an interception I could let it fester or forget it and move on. Festering was counter productive and it did not take me long to learn that, so when I threw a pick I learned from it and moved on. Next possession it was already forgotten and I was concentrating on the play that was just called. Nothing else. Same thing for acting and auditions. Once I finished an audition, I let it go completely because it was out of my control. The more I did it, the easier it got until quite often the next day another actor would ask if I had an audition yesterday and I would reply yes, but don't remember what it was because my mind was on the audition I was about to have right now. ... Golf is exactly the same. As much of a cliche as it sounds, you can only play one stroke at a time and that stroke is the only one that matters. When you do that, thinking you need 5 more pars to break 80 will not be an option because if you are only concentrating in the shot you have right now, you will have no idea what you need to break par. The only time I am aware of my score is when I have all pars because that is hard to ignore, but once I have a bogie, birdie or eagle I lose lost track because I'm only thinking about the shot I am about to have. Nothing else is important. Same thing for hitting a ball in the water and thinking "I need to hit a couple of great shot to save bogie". If you hit it in the water, take your drop and only concentrate on what is the best shot to attempt right now. This will improve your focus and your execution. ... Facing a long putt, entertaining the thought that this is a 3 putt just waiting too happen is the same thing. That's 2 more shots ahead of the shot you are playing. Look at the putt and only focus on your speed and line and hit the very best putt you can. The rest will take care of itself. By thinking positive about the only shot you have control over, you give yourself your best chance of making it a good one. And repeating myself, but the same thing happens if that first putt rolls 6 feet past or comes up 6 feet short. Forget the putt you just made and only concentrate on making the putt you are now facing. By now I hope you can see every single shot is a singular challenge and as a competitor you want to embrace every challenge with your best effort. ... I know some of you are thinking this is pretty much impossible, especially after playing many years, but it really isn't. If you are serious about breaking 100, 90, 80 or 70 play golf and only focus on the shot you have to make right now. I think you might be surprised at your score when the round is over. It is also much more fun and relaxing to hit your the shot to the best of your ability giving it your best effort, then shift your focus to your partners or enjoy your surroundings and only get back to the golf when preparing for your next shot. Remember, this is a learned behavior so if thoughts creep in about future holes or what's needed to break 80, just recognize it and then keep doing the best you can with concentrating on one shot only and you will get better and better at it!

    How'd you play?

We had an assistant pro at the Yellowstone CC that used to play on the LPGA tour. I was struggling to break 80 on the course and asked her what I could do to break that barrier. Her reply was pretty simple --- what are you thinking about on hole 15? Another trick I've used --- break the 18 hole scorecard into 3 hole cards and try to shoot or break 13 for each 3. After 3 holes, forget the score and play the next 3. If you can successfully shoot 13 or better on each of the 3 hole stretches, you've shot a 79. Good luck!

  16. Not directly golf but golf related. Went yesterday and got some cold weather gear and two nice pairs of running shoes. Started the first week of January at 2 miles a day then up to three and now up to 4 a day. My goal is to walk the course as much as I can this year and maybe drop a few pounds along the way. 24. I belong to several forums and Golf WRX. I've learned that some WRX guys are of a brash nature. Mostly I get long with them because I'm fairly passive. There are other forums THat really are nothing but a selling tool for the OEM. As some of my buddies call it, friends and family forum, and for a good reason. Been a member here at MGS for a while but really haven't posted much for one reason or another. Like the layout, conversation and topics and the people seem to be genuine.

  26. Chipping Test Went and started with green side chipping today, the Bridgestone BX -vs- my Srixon Z-Star XV. The process went like this: 1) place "dotted" ball for Mevo 2) chip 3 balls of same make, and observe results 3) then clean club with wet towel and dry off, 4) rinse and repeat through the process. Test 1- (low spinner 54 degree wedge)I started with the 54 degree wedge, green side collar, low "check" type chips placed back in stance, that got about knee high or lower after the strike, this is kinda a standard go to shot around the green for me. These shots overall resulting in all chips coming to a stopping distance between 16-20yds (48' to 60'). The result initially was that the balls felt the same to me with no real differences noticed from one make to the other make. However, the first "2 rounds" of 3 (being 3 BS chips then 3 Srix chips being 1 round) I did take note that it was appearing the Srixons seemed to be stopping overall about 2 ft shorter than the Bridegstone. I took note that this seemed the overall result for "Round 1 and Round 2" with the 3rd round seeming to be a push. I noted this but did not put much into it, all things subject to strike. Test 2- (Mid trajectory 54 degree) Next test went 4 rounds still greenside with 54 degree (3 shots each ball), what I would call a "mid-trajectory" chip that went between waist high to neck high, and I pushed the distance out alittle placing a tee at 16 yds as an intended landing area only and then taking note of where the balls were finishing (and how). The balls all resulted in a total distance of around 19-22yds (57' to 66'). During this portion of the test I'd say I did not notice any difference in stopping power and the balls seemed to blend more together, however I would still think alot of this could be down to strike. The Spin numbers collected - Now I realize this is not a Trackman data set but Mevo is what I have and I was glad to have it for this, I set it to the "chipping" setting and collected data as I worked through the process seen above. The SPIN total results of those 42 chip shots (21 for EACH make of Ball) resulted in these numbers: Srixon Z-Star XV- Average spin of 7304rpm, High of 7592, Low of 5390. Of those 21 chips, 14 of those all being in the 7400-7500 each. Pretty consistent! (*Note, all subject to strike and low data sample however but looking for any trends) Bridgestone Tour BX- Average spin of 6942, High of 7554, Low of 5548. Of those 21 chips, 10 of those all being in the 7400-7500 each. (*Note, all subject to strike and low data sample however but looking for any trends) I tried to go get some 55-60yd partial shot 58 degree wedges, but we just had over and inch of rain the two previous days, and the the thin lies and dormant grass being soaked made this task with razor thin margins and not to mention I'd be there all day cleaning the face after each shot. Just to cold for that today and conditions not being correct. Tomorrow planning to play but not sure yet if I'll be "comparing numbers" or just throw the BX ball in play and just play and try it out. Yet to be determined, I really enjoy comparing products but I make it a MUST to do so on the same day

  27. Alright, so I literally just got in the door from doing some testing on Trackman. I went by Haas Family Golf in Greenville, SC and spent some time with Daniel Clemmons, their in house master fitter. If any of you in the upstate SC area are looking for a fitter and/or lessons, give this guy a call. Very knowledgeable and super nice as well. Anyhow, results are below comparing my 6th gen Srixon ZStar vs the proto Bridgestone Tour B XS. CHS / Ball Speed / Smash / Launch / Spin / Carry Driver Z Star - 112.7 / 165.6 / 1.47 / 8.3 / 1909 / 263.2 yds B XS - 113.5 / 168.1 / 1.48 / 8.4 / 2917 / 280.2 yds 7 iron Z Star - 91.2 / 118.6 / 1.30 / 18.3 / 6966 / 166 yds B XS - 91.3 / 120 / 1.32 / 17.5 / 6725 / 170.1 yds GW - Note: was trying to hit my 100 yard approach, not full swing. I started getting a little flippy with the B XS in this comparison due to fatigue, which you’ll see with the numbers. Z Star - 81.9 / 79.9 / .98 / 27.1 / 10383 / 97.5 yds B XS - 82.9 / 78.3 / .95 / 29.2 / 10579 / 94.7 yds I realize 2900 rpm spin with a driver is a bit higher than ideal, but I’ve always had a negative angle of attack with my driver as you’ll notice with my lower launch angles. Today I averaged -2.6 degrees. But I picked up almost 3 mph in ball speed and 17 yards of carry. That’s including one that was low on the face and only carried 270. The other drives were all between 283.6-284.5. If I take the one low out, the avg jumps 20 yards. The feel off the driver is a touch firmer than the Z Star, but was negligible with the 7i and GW. Needless to say, I’m itching to get on the course with this revelation today. If nothing else, this has shown why ball fitting may be just as important as club fitting. Initial impressions: wow!

  28. So I ordered one of these shortly after reading this thread. The owner is super friendly and he shipped my order out quick. Upon receipt, I immediately noticed the quality construction and I filled it up and put it on my bag. I used it yesterday for the first time and it is worth every penny IMO. The amount of water it applies is perfect and the bristles are firm enough to thoroughly clean club faces. And the magnet they use? Super strong and convenient! I had a Frogger brush before this, which I paid $20 for locally so paying another $7 for a brush that’s WAY better was not an issue. And if you all weren’t aware it has an absurd 3 year warranty. As far as club brushes go, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option!

80 3/14 FiR 7/18 GiR 32 Putts I couldn't find water in the ocean with driver today and it hurt my score for sure. Then, my bag broke when I lifted it into my trunk. Pretty disappointed in Sun Mountain after such great forum member reviews prior to me getting one. Guess they don't make em like they used to? The nylon or whatever it is that connects the handle to the front of the bag totally disintegrated -- guess I'm in the market for a new one.

TM SIM vs Maltby KE4 TC

Maltby have a sneaky release of thier new head and usually dont do releases till late spring/summer. So it caught me a bit off guard. This one has a cast ti body of 8-1-1 and a face of 6-4 ti. They brought back an adjustable hosel and have thier signature single weight port. The new SIM driver arrived at the same time so a shootout ensued The SIM was a 9.0 with the Hzrdus Green S at 46", weight slightly heel side. KE4 TC had the Xcaliber Superlite55 S tipped an inch at 45". I also had along an M5 9.0 and an ISO-T 10.5. Right away the M5 was knocked out as it was out to the right and a slight but shorter but in a tight pattern. No doubt the distance was hampered by the fade. The ISO-T is not the one I have setup for myself but it was a good representation. This one spins in the 3200 rpm area and though it matched ball speed of 155 the spin kills the distance. But it is very straight. It was obvious this was between the KE4 and the SIM. The first chart shows how they stacked up. The KE4 carry numbers had a pair of 250 carries that hurt its numbers but overall it more than held its own. It bettered the ball speed yet was slower in club head speed. Had much better spin and was as consistent. Seeing this really intrigued me into wanting to get a matching shaft comparison. As the two drivers sit I could have played either one. Feel wise a slight nod goes to the SIM. it has a bit softer feel but not by a lot. Same goes for the sound,, it's just slightly softer. Both feel and sound with nearly any TM these days is a benchmark. The SIM is right up there.. with the KE4 its NOT a huge difference but it is there. Just a bit firmer and louder,, just a bit. The construction of the two is quite different and the carbon crown of the SIM plays a big role. So next I put a matching Xcaliber Superlite55 S tipped an inch in the SIM. Both are 45" long and matching grips. This was two days later and didnt quite have my swing from the previous test but it was repeatable. I hit the SIM first for 5 and switched. Viewed the data and repeated the 5 and 5. This test showed the KE4 to edge out the SIM again but this time it was a little more clear. There is not a huge difference but it is there in the numbers. Spin is still far better. Ball speed is nearly the same yet the SIM is still faster. The aero on the head is REAL. you can swing the SIM faster yet it was not showing the leap expected in ball speed. Smash factor reflects that as well. For the heck of it I repeated a 3 and 3 test on the E6 software and had the same results. The KE4 beat it out. As far as dispersion goes they were pretty equal. With the KE4 I can take the right side of the fairway out of play. With the SIM I need to aim down the middle. My misses were right and left but all still well in play. The KE4 was steadily left. not in a hooky sort of way, just left. Which for me is new. Once I get outside I'll play with the settings where I'm better able to see its actual flight. Now,,,,, I have $210 into the build of the KE4 TC. The SIM is $549. I'm not knocking the SIM as I really did enjoy the driver and certainly could play it, (I still could have adjusted setting with the SIM, as well the KE4), but there is no way I can justify over twice the cost. Maltby has a fantastic release with the top of the KE4 line up. I really look forward to spending more time with it getting it dialed in. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

  37. My first initial thought is weird. It’s less cue ball sounding. I’ve game the last 2 models at some point the B330S and the Tour B XS. The B330S sounded and felt like hard chalk, and the XS sounded like a cue ball to me. Probably won’t be able to get a round in till next Sunday. Unreal work issues still... maybe a short game session if I’m lucky.

  38. I'll be sidelining my ProV1x and playing the Tour B RXS exclusively. I track my game with Arccos caddie and I will look at how any of the tour analytics change for good or bad from this date forward to see any difference this ball makes in my performance. Did you notice they are MADE IN USA ? I like that!

  39. A brown box from Bridgestone. Whatever could this be? YESSSSSSSS! It’s golf ball testing time! This is totally awesome. Several prototype boxes, all containing two Bridgestone Tour B XS golf balls. I feel more like Tiger already. Don't go trying to steal these bad boys. You’ve been warned. What happens if/when I lose one...? These look and feel amazing. I just went from no weekend plans to Saturday morning golf! I can’t wait to see how these perform. The prior generation were a great ball, I’m curious what changes Bridgestone has made. I’ll have to see if I can dig up any of the old ones from my bag, Bridgestone has never been my gamer. No idea if these will be the right ball for me, but I must say that having done the fitting video with Bridgestone, I’m feeling a bit of extra confidence in these babies. We also have a Bridgestone rep coming out to fit the golf team with balls soon, it will be interesting to see if their findings are the same! To the course!

  40. It's been rainy here the last couple of weekends and I haven't been able to get out and practice, until today. It was a beautiful, dry, 43 degree day and ripe for a range session. Today while hitting, I met a man named W.T. who was working at the course and he asked if he could give me a little advice. He told me he once was on the path to be certified to be a teacher, but with his first child on the way his wife gave him a choice, diapers or golf. A wise man, he chose diapers. He told me my swing looked good, but I needed to move the ball back a hair (8 iron) and to start the swing just a little more to the inside. Now, to be honest, I tend to hit the ball all over the face of my club. Shot 1: dead center. Shot 2: dead center. I hit a total of six shots that were just stacked. I was using spray powder to see where I was hitting and I wish I would have taken a photo. I will say that he had never thought about using spray powder and that he has always used impact tape, so I guess I was able to return the favor and teach him something. I moved on to driver after he walked back over to the maintenance shop and hit some pretty nice shots into an area of the range I designated as a fairway. To give an idea of how much I improved, here's a photo from December 31 of how I was hitting areas from center to toe. Here's my shots from today, I still need to work on consistency up and down, but I'm not getting shots coming off the toe or heel. I'm hoping since I'm off next week I can get back out and see if I can replicate the magic both on the range and the course, weather permitting. He did give me a drill I can work on even indoors to keep the feeling I was getting today. I know you all have heard of holding a basketball and rotating with it. I plan on practicing it a lot to get the correct feeling on the takeaway. I have been working on the extreme inside takeaway I used to have and think I had over compensated leading me to coming back too far outside. Sent from my SM-N975U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

GigaGolf revelation # Ping g10 Callaway Apex Pro * Wilson F5 * Cobra Fly-Z+ Mizuno MP-53 Titleist AP1 Ping g410 ^ Sterling Single Length ^ # -- first irons I ever shot in the 30s on 9 with * -- wish I would have kept them; really liked these ^ -- currently own the MP-53s had graphite shafts in them and were a flubbed experiment; that being said I don't really count them as "owning" a set of Mizunos....I'd love to own a set some day as the ones I've hit before gave me goosebumps...

I could have sworn I did this when the thread was originally posted, maybe I deleted for evidence sake But I'll give it a shot, my memory is a year older, so I'm sure I'll forgot a few sets. List your Irons!

I'm not sure it's a good idea to list all these, though I've done it before on other forums. I'm not sure I even remember all of them. I'll start with the list of what I currently own: Mizuno MP-37 Mizuno MS-11 Ram FX Nickel Tour Grinds Golden Ram TW276 Golden Ram TW282 Golden Ram Vibration Matched Tour Grinds Golden Ram 1980 Tour Grinds Golden Ram in oval (mid 70s) Tour Grinds Ram TG-898 Pinhawk Single Length TaylorMade 2011 Tour Preferred MC Ping Eye2+ Ping ISI Wilson Staff 78 Tour Blades MacGregor Muirfields Tommy Armour 986 Tours Wood Bros blades (post-Wood brothers ownership clubmaker version) Maxfli Revolution black dot Knew I forgot a set. Also own Purefit 1020 blade clubheads. Largely unused, the 7i and 8i have been shafted with various graphite shafts as test clubs over the last several years. Now the rest of the stuff. This is what I've had in the past, that I no longer own. I will probably forget several, I may edit later. Starting with the starter set: Dunlop Airfoil (sporting goods store model) Goldwin AVDP Oversize Tour Edge Comp 950 Lift Offs Goldwin AVDP Tour Golden Ram Frequency Matched Tour Grinds (my first blades) Wilson Staff FG-17 Wilson Staff Tour Blades (line under, from mid 80s) Golfsmith Pro Forged Golfsmith Professional Grind blades Palmer Original Standards Palmer Standards, 78-84 Palmer Standards, 1985 model Powerbilt Scotch Blades 2276 Peerless PHD Tours Golfsmith Tour Cavity Pro Precept Tour Premium Precept Tour Premium (yes, I've owned two sets, kind of have a thing for them) Ram FX Nickel Tour Grinds (different set than the ones I currently own) Ram FX Nickel Tour Grinds (have had two sets I unloaded, and one that's still here) Mizuno MP-37s (different set than the ones I currently own) MacGregor PMB MacGregor PCB Tours Tommy Armour 986 Tours (once again, different set than the ones I currently own) MacGregor M85 And I'm running out of steam. I may be missing a few. Good thing it's not all the clubs I've actually hit, we could be here a while. The worst part of all this? I've only been playing golf for 21 years. I didn't start until my 35th birthday, fall of 1998.

  45. Went ahead with the torching. Added some white paint fill. They aren’t perfect, but they look really good. I wish I had all the proper tools for This.

    DJ Spider

TaylorMade actually added the slant neck to the spider to allow for some toe hang to betterment fit strokes with some arc to them. The version with the shaft that goes right into the head has less toe hang and is better for straight back straight through strokes
