    Happy thread

Feeling pretty proud of myself. Started (officially) in a new role this week, and my employer did a profile of me for their social media. https://www.facebook.com/BarwonHealth/?__tn__=kC-RH-R&eid=ARAM9FnQGbF_0tlqymNm0OgThfbIjedKhQLVVIS-NOpyXyU7TTKrUV41USdOiOmHCFbwgoFgGncs4iK5&hc_ref=ARRF-kWeHEZBdclHK_YFfwSFSdHONt_nZkGqMWt0oaCrzKSDXLwdf1kCFn-lP2zdPpg&fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARCfAXTPwDgvSdVadumGuDy78KB_Z1WjCH6xdnb2FixGFvaapLcvpNbICqTBmcLJumUVMEy5vQvZWsL9nyc9mwa4LGqmC8Sd7hIGVwYbrTJg-tac1P4jy8gxb2bD08dYLBXATOqOH7OnhUtigp8XOOduuB6q8IbmYidSRgbN914pTyRoKToyPnDmBatDtS8Xwc8iyS6Tr74Lh2d4SJdVsm4lWB-nPz5TnwGHt4sPIygMwdVDKRGGtRYNjHhohtCq8bhQfoW0IEWtVlwoWCBEAFfE38YSdMqBixGNj2kIezF6kOaK3w8hq7WHfSMPVqX6hnEyg3HBAi_280Nqebm-EGjhwPg2zwMoxwm1cQg5sOgqzXw Apart from me not thinking my hair is as red as the picture, I'm pretty pleased with how it came up.

    How'd you play?

Got out for 18 today and more B X testing. 36/47 for an 83 8/14 FiR 10/18 GiR 34 Putts After playing even on the front with 2 birds and 2 bogeys and feeling really good. I hooked one OB onto the street on #11 for a quad, and tripled #16. What a dumb hobby, haha!

    Got Problems?

I’ll be tied up for the next week. I still owe you guys some stuff on the Blueprints. What I’m currently dealing with at work has occupied almost every day of the week since December 1. Was expecting to be done today, only to run into a bigger, more problematic issue. I can’t defeat this dang thing yet. Nearly there, so for now, please accept my apology for slacking lately.

    How'd you play?

Played my first round for 3 weeks, weather was a bit of a challenge, with light drizzle making it particularly difficult to judge the speed on the green. Shot 12 over, highlights were making bogey after hitting my tee shot OOB and holing a bunker shot (unfortunately it was for par) Drove ok, with 2 bad drives that cost me shots, and irons were pretty solid. I really need to get out on the course more.

  6. Played 18 today and continued to see a lot of what I've been seeing: Ball seems a little longer Doesn't feel as "sticky" around the greens as a V1X What I also noticed today is it seems like a more "boring" or flat flight compared to V1X. I was 2' from an ace from 165 out, probably would've guaranteed a spot in my bag if that happened. Felt like a jerk because the guy we played with hit one to 4' right before that, and I put it inside of his, whoops!

  8. Okay, my fitting visit at the TPI Training Institute is scheduled for March 13. They have been very accommodating and I am looking forward to the trip. I plan to get some rounds in before the visit so I will be ready for the fitting.

  9. I personally don't see a debate. What's there to debate? If you like playing a white ball so be it. (I do) If you prefer anything else - have at it. A debate might be approprite if perhaps the USGA were banning the white ball or a colored one. But they're not. Carry on and have a nice day.

    3 points
  11. Yup. Drivers, woods, hybrids and irons were 5 years. Wedges were 3 years. No mention of putter in the contract. That being said - if the purchase is funded by gift cards and selling two extra clubs I have laying around, then it's no money out of pocket either

I gotta say, for winter time this place is great. I get to hit balls, work on distance control and ball contact. This got me to thinking. How do the Topgolf balls compair to my Bridgestone TourB RX???? I the spirit of"Find it cut it", as I was leaving one day I happened upon a wayward ball out in the street. Size and weight were exactly the same as my Bridgestone. So I just had to cut it open, here's what I found...
    2 points
  13. ... I think I posted this earlier but it is worth repeating. The "new" ball spins less off woods enabling players to hit it higher and farther. The old 4/5 woods with the higher spinning ball launched high with a lot of spin and could balloon or just lose distance compared to a 3 wood. Of course high swing speed players can still take advantage of todays 3 wood because even with lower spin, they can launch it high enough to maximize performance. But slower swing speed may not be able to launch a 3 wood high enough with a lower spinning ball and they can maximize distance with a higher launching 4/5 wood and can hit it even farther than a 3 wood.

  19. How long have you been playing golf? Since 1977, when I was 17. What’s your handicap or normal score? Averaged 41 this years in a 9 hole league, 75 is good, 85 is bad. What do you love about golf? Out-driving my brother. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Saw it on Youtube. Do you already know any other Spies? No Where are you from? Rochester, MI What is your home course? Don't really have one, but I play at Copper Hills, Stoney Creek, Blackheath, Pine Valley, Glacier, Orchards, Greystone What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Great, plush fairways but slow greens. Then there is the weather, which is bad from Dec-March. What do you do for a living? PLC Programmer, who is at the end. How’d you pick your user name? Slow is how I walk up stairs, low for my stomach. Has nothing to do with my takeaway with the driver. This is Carl's Golfland, a few years back, this is how some of us practice golf in December.

Must have had an “Alien Possession”. After a couple weeks of dismal play shot 3 over 1 double & 1 bogie. I switched out the G410 irons and replaced with the Mizzies. It wasn’t the irons fault just from tempo & swing plain. No bacon for me this morning!! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  25. Okay we are back in the rainy season here in Georgia so I thought I'd do an update. First off the suit is holding up well no rips, tears or other issues, in fact, it still looks brand new. I wear the jacket everywhere when it's raining out and still find it very comfortable. I wore the pants as pants for the first time 2 weeks ago, previously I had worn them over golf shorts, and they were quite comfortable. We played on a particularly swampy day and a few swings threw mud all over me, which easily washed off with wet cloth after the round. So almost a year later still loving the Galway Bay rain suit!

  30. I picked up a 52/56/60 set of Vokey clones from Diamond Tour Golf a few weeks ago, with the intention of possibly using them as my wedges next season. At $35 delivered for the three heads, I figured it to be a cheap experiment for me to try. The heads are 431 stainless steel, and while not ugly, aren't gorgeous either. They're boring, and the branding/font used screams clone to me. I'm a fan of the "oil can" or "gun blue" finishing that can be used on carbon steel wedges, stainless however does not have option. So, I decided to give tempering a try to bring out some dark straw, blue and purple colors. First, what the wedges looked like from DTG. I removed the paint fill with some CitriStrip and acetone, and then using latex gloves gave them a final acetone wipe to remove any oily residue before torching. I have a propane weed torch from Harbor Freight that I use for weeding our driveway and also searing steaks post-sous vide. HF claims the torch can reach over 3,000 degrees, and since stainless takes a lot of heat to temper, it was my choice for this work. I have a smaller propane torch, but I would have been heating each head for a long time (target temperature for blue/purple color on stainless is VERY high). Please note: Be careful. I managed to complete this without burning my house down, but I am not responsible for whatever happens if you choose to (literally) play with fire. I setup on my concrete driveway placing the head on a brick so that the driveway wouldn't bear the brunt of the heat. Basically, I blasted away for several minutes until I got the color I wanted and them dumped the heads in a snowbank to cool rapidly. I recommend a long screwdriver or bolt to turn the heads and to transport them to their cooling destination. I almost started an oven mitt on fire because the heads were so hot. Anyway, I'm excited with how they turned out! I certainly didn't have perfect prep work and it shows, but I like the uniqueness of each head. In dim light they are dark straw/bronze color, and in the sunlight they have a lot of blue and purple highlights that are gorgeous. I haven't decided if I want to do new paint fill on them, or leave them empty. But, all in all, this was a fun experiment. I personally think they look a lot better than before.

  31. With what you said is one of the reasons I retired my old Cally Steelhead 3 plus with UST Pro Force Gold 65 shaft--- I carried that thing for 14 years--- got older and could not elevate it. I now carry the 16* Adams in my signature. In some circles that is called a 3 wood but I call it a 4 wood. The what I call a 5 wood that goes with it is 19* and an old V-Steel 5 wood is 18*. FTR the old Cally was a Tour Issue head and measures out at 13* So honestly FTR again I do not carry a 3 wood any more

  32. I spent some time checking the balance of all of my Bridgestone Tour B RXS Prototype and several 2019 Titleist ProV1x balls. Played a round of golf. Found eight random ball on the very wet golf course ( cart path only for the fifth round in a row! ). Tested the random found balls later that night. I also weighed all of the balls. All of the Bridgestone Tour B RXS prototypes and all Titleist ProV1x 2019 and previous season editions were balanced. All weighed 40 grams. The eight random found golf balls were all unbalanced ! These eight balls were major manufacture balls Bridgestone, Callaway, Taylor Made, Snell, Srixon, and Titleist. The thing they had in common was they were found on a very wet and muddy golf course. I'm done playing found or renewed golf balls period. Curiously they all weighed 40 grams. I did find one ball a few weeks ago that I have kept as a reminder of my club testing Lynx Blackcat ( Who knew they had a ball?). It did test balanced. But it only weighed 37 grams. Don't know what to think about that. As I said I played a round of golf the day after 3 inches of rain and temperature was a breezy high of 56 and thick cloud cover. Kind of miserable golf conditions so I really can only say this ball plays well off the driver and full iron shots. The jury is still out on short game performance and I'm still struggling a bit with putting distance control with the Tour B RXS.

Having played another round with the Align XL, I think I fall into the non-linear putting category... however, that's no knock on the line, it's durability, or implementation! https://www.golf.com/instruction/putting/2020/01/31/line-on-golf-ball-i-tried-it/ Torture test forthcoming as well, in the vein of Mythbusters

  35. The only thing I see in the putting stroke is that you have a slight arc in your stroke, and it seems that your putter face is open at impact and I believe that’s the reason for the putts to the right. As for fixing. No sure. A face balanced putter wants to stay straight back and straight through, a little practice on the takeaway to keep the putter straight back will keep the face square. It looks like you have a natural slight arc in your stroke, some good practice with a slight toe hang putter may work great for your stroke. I think it’s just a little practice and small adjustments that are needed. Knowing that the face is open at impact is good information, what you do with it up to you.

  37. Gave them a test drive today in my little indoor putting/chipping area. I first bounced a new one off my putter face, like you see folks do with a wedge, I tried it with a wedge, quite comical... anyhow, there was a distinct pitch difference between the 2019 ball and the 2020 ball, both are TourB RX. I putted both, 3 old, 3 new. Then alternate balls. The new one definitely is not as "clickly" as the 2019 and seemed to come off the putter a little hotter than the 2019 ball. Next I went to chipping, about a 5 yard chip. Again the 2020 ball was lower in tone during club contact and seem to come off the club with more speed than the 2019. I found myself swinging a little easier with the 2020 ball to cover the same distance as the 2019 ball. So, all in all things look promising. I'll be heading to Florida Sunday and playing the Slammer/Squire course Monday. I'll let y'all know Monday night how it went Chris

  48. Had another lesson on Friday and am very happy with where my swing is heading. We made a few tweaks to my takeaway, which means a few new swing thoughts to juggle for me, but the results were pretty staggering. When I started in November my path was very left, it's now 2-4 degrees right with a 7 iron. Toward the end of the lesson I was even hitting a bunch of baby draws right on the target line with a face-to-path of about -1.5. Pretty cool! Anyway, we've had a ton of snow dumped on us this weekend, so I couldn't get to the range to work more on the changes, but I took the time today to spend about an hour hitting foam balls in my 38 degree garage while on camera. I had so-so success, but by the end I was lining everything up correctly. Getting the change to feel natural is going to take some time, hopefully I can get out to the range again next weekend. The weather seems to always get worse over the weekends!

  50. I had Zepp 2 for a little while and used it a few times for some range sessions. It provided some great info, but I ended up getting rid of it as I didn't use it near enough. The only problem I had with it was that it was a pain in the ass to calibrate.
