    How'd you play?

I intended to play 9, but ended up at a different course so I played 18. It was a beautiful day out [emoji41] 88 (44/44) - 6 doubles killed my round [emoji849] 6/14 FIR 6/18 GIR 37 putts with three 3 jacks [emoji24] My ball striking has improved and I did hit a number of good shots. Putting has been streaky as well, but it's a work in progress so it's all good. This shot was from 95 yards and was easily my best shot of the day!

+3 39 today 6/7 FiR 5/9 GiR 15 Putts For the first time in a long time, I actually hit driver well. Posted in the SIM thoughts thread, but I averaged 274 off the tee and hit 4/4 fairways with driver. Funny enough, the only hole I birdied I was 2 yards into the rough after over-drawing my 3W off the tee. Missed some putts that were honestly makeable, but I'm just happy to be getting off the tee with success again.

    How'd you play?

Nice day today, temps got into the 50s; ground was fairly wet due to the snow from Thursday. Made a couple of mistakes off the tee causing me to have to pitch back to the fairway, but really happy with how I am hitting the ball off the tee and my iron plays is pretty solid. Happy with my putting as well; did some drills prior to the round so my putter was working pretty well. Short game is way too inconsistent; may need to go get a followup lesson and see why I can't take my practice to the course. Two doubles, 7 bogeys, 4 birdies resulted in a 37/42-79

    How'd you play?

Was lucky enough to get down to Miami last week for a few days to play Indian Creek Country Club. Certainly was a tale of two very different days. First day, while still shaking some rust off, played a 78 and the second day my golf game was no where to be found and shot an 86. Also, hit several shots fat from 125 and in, which really doesn't happen to me. Guess I'll chalk it up to early year rust and leave it at that. Still, a much better way to spend a couple days than in the office!

  9. Pulled SIM Max 4 times today: 276 out of the car, 265, 264, 299 and all in the fairway. The first and the last were down wind, the others were into, and one was also uphill in addition. Feels great to be hitting driver well again, now just need to work out some kinks in my ball striking with my mid irons and I'll be happy and hopefully see my handicap drop.

  13. I know this sound super cliche' but while the equipment we're testing may have a monetary value, the experience is absolutely invaluable. I've learned quite a bit about myself and my game through these. Not to mention, you get to know other forum members on a more personal level. The forum value increases exponentially because you really get to see the kind of folks that your rubbing elbows with. When all is said and done, you look back with your comrades and say "we did this together". It's a pretty awesome undertaking. OK, so between us, all that sentimental sappiness.. never happened.. Just to make things clear and as far as anyone's concerned, I'm rough and tough and eat glass and nails for breakfast.. and shave with a bowie knife..

    How'd you play?

Played 9 today for the first time since late October or early November. Didn't keep score, as we each hit a couple mulligans. The range wasn't open, but I still tried to focus on flattening my swing. I actually had a few drives that had a slight draw when I stayed flatter. Reverted to very vertical a few times resulting in a high fade/slice, but at least I can feel it now. I need to get to a range soon! A couple highlights... Man it feels nice to be able to contribute to this thread again!

Wa-HOOOOOOOOO! I actually got on the course today for 9 holes, AND the range was open, mats only. I won’t even gripe about the HORRIBLE condition the course is in, as it’s probably to be expected with all of the dang rain we’ve had. This was my first time to hit the Vega wedges AND the Z785s on a course... HO-LY crap!!! I am stoked! The lesson I had in Dallas really helped today as I hit 71% of fairways, and 56% of greens. I missed two greens long just because I don’t know my distances yet with the irons or wedges. I flushed a bunch of shots for the first time in awhile. If I can get a lesson on chipping and pitching, and maybe putting to increase my confidence, I could have a good golf year! [emoji1374][emoji1374][emoji1374] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Didn't play Sunday. Wind was 30mph with gusts to 52; blowing dust from the farmers' fields outside of town. You may remember the tumbleweed story earlier this year when they buried cars on the highway. Yesterday was Tumbleweed 2; the sequel. So today was 50º with only a breeze, I played with my 77 and 80 year old Monday walking buddies. The course was pruning tree branches after the storm yesterday on the front nine, so we played the back nine. We usually only play the front nine. I hit every fairway with my driver and made 2 no-putt birdies, putting from the fringe. 11 putts total. Shot 36 (+1) because of a stooopid double on an easy hole.

    Driver Length

Average driver length on the PGA tour is under 45 inches. So yes, shortening driver length can definitely provide some benefits. Just remeber that as you shorten the driver, the swingweight will become lighter, so you may need to compensate by adding headweight depending on how the shorter club feels to you

  22. Had a warm spell these past couple of days (temps getting up into the 40s), making SkyTrak in the garage much less unpleasant. Kirke's been working on finding the middle of the face, optimizing his launch. He's seeing that if he launches it higher, it generally goes further for him. And he's feeling (and hearing) the difference between centered strikes and heel cuts. Right now, his best drives have hit 80mph of ball speed and carried just over 100 yards. One of the fun things we do on SkyTrak is have long drive contests. Right now, he's winning most of them: it's his driver against my GW. If I switched to PW, I'd win every time. I expect that in the next few years, we'll keep working up my bag (his driver against my PW, then my 9i, etc.). Eventually, it'll come full circle: it'll be my driver against his FW, then his hybrid, etc.

  23. Decided on the Kuro Kage Black HBP 60X. Did some range testing yesterday and so far the results have been great. Sound/feel of this club is fantastic and it has a great shape behind the ball. Sits nice and square which I like and I ended up configuring it to 9.25* and 60.5* lie angle on the adapter setting.

Finally got a chance to test these out on Saturday. They definitely aren't the softest forgings in the world. You won't confuse these with Miura's any time soon. However, the feel and sound meshes very well with the Staff Model blades. It has a solid "crack" at impact. Spin was excellent. 10+ with the 50 degree and with the the High Toe 56 I was getting around 7500 on half and 3/4 shots. The High Toe seems to have a smaller footprint that either the PM grind or the TM version, which I like. I wish there were more grind options, but the 56 High toe's leading edge sat close enough to the ground for me that I don't worry about it. It will be replacing my RTX 4 two dot (which I never really got along with because it skimmed too easily through the sand leading to bladed shots) with the High Toe. The standard 50 and 60 will be in the bag as well. I might have to grind down the 60 a little bit, but the first shot hit the flag from 50 yards so maybe not lol

+5 77 (38/39) today at Mercer East. 6 straight rounds in the 70s dating back to November. By far a personal record. Driver was okay, but irons were on fire today. Swing changes definitely showing. They punched the greens late, so they never filled in before the weather got cold so lots of bouncy putts. Still, I putted pretty well. Definitely lost a few putts due to some big bounces on the way to the hole. All in all it was an great day. Got paired up with another single and a twosome and we had a blast. Always great to be playing golf in February, but it's even better to see the hard work on the swing changes paying off

  29. You should tell that to Vikor Hovland. He won a PGA Tour event yesterday with Ping I210s. Oh and also tell 95% of the LPGA and Champions tour players, who are all +++ handicappers with ball striking ability that most amateurs can only dream about, who also use cavity back or players cavity irons

I did watch the final round yesterday starting after the UConn basketball game was over - I knew that Reed's win would bring additional discussion - I'm worn out by the cheating stuff that is plaguing my two favorite sports but I do have an observation or question as to everyone else's opinion. Do you think that JT made a big deal about his drop and the ball moving because he was playing with Reed? It was after all a no brainer that there was no penalty involved according to rules that are now over a year old and well vetted - Just something that I thought about as I was watching. Also I'm with Sixcat on the matter of Bryson's pace of play - his group was over a hole ahead of Reed's group by the end of the round - granted Thomas was all over the course all day but I did think that was interesting. These WGC events are like mini-Masters - let the top players in, eliminate and dilute the rest of the field and you are going to have topflight players at the top of the leader board come Sunday - it's a brilliant format - of course they don't have the course or the tradition but still it's very watchable. I almost never watch the final round of the Masters because I'm generally playing golf - its towards the end of our good weather and I hate to miss out on that - I will watch it this year as it falls on Easter and I'll be totally worn out that day (much as I was yesterday.)

  35. I was able to get out and play on 2/23 at Connecticut National golf course. It was the first time the course had opened and it was still pretty dormant. The greens were furry and the tee boxes were frozen about 1/2" below the surface (made it hard to get the tee in the ground!)..... I hit some great shots with the g410s and managed to get into the 70s. 160 yard 8 iron (which is big for me) 170 yard 7 iron (another big shot) 180 yard 6 to get on the green in 2 on a par 5 These go far and straight. Can't wait for the course conditions to improve this year!

    Weight Loss Thread

I think I could do intermittent fasting if it was just coffee and water all day. But IMHO you need to exercise. You can't just drink slim fast and sit around and expect the weight to fall off. Do Something. Every day.

  37. There’s no such thing as a magic diet. Losing weight boils down to calories (energy) in vs calories (energy) out. Dieting doesn’t work and it’s why there are hundreds of fad diets and/or pills and devices out there being sold daily. it has to be a lifestyle change. There are a number of ways to accomplish weight loss such as intermittent fasting assuming one is not over eating in their window, keto, high carb low fat, flexible eating which has numerous studies out to show to be the most effective at losing weight and keeping it off. This allows a person to enjoy foods they like while also eating nutrient dense foods. The more single nutrient foods you eat the more flexible you can be with a snack or meal out. Find what works best for you and you can sustain both thru the weight loss phase and after you reach your goal.

Agreed. You can't take that away from him. It's just a shame he's brought the controversy on himself, because he doesn't need to cheat to win tournaments... So why do that to yourself and to the game?

    How'd you play?

Not a good scoring day for me again. 3 double bogies (again) and a mediocre 43/43. Been awhile since I've shot my handicap (we're not posting this time of year, so nothing changing from where I froze on the first of December). I'll blame colder weather, wetter fairways, and other conditions beyond my control....it can't be me! Didn't strike the ball badly. Just made enough mistakes that got me in trouble. One that I need to look into is my 9 iron. On 3 occasions, when using it for approach shots, I came up short right. Interestingly, don't have that issue with the PW or my 8 iron. On a positive note, I borrowed a friend's Ping 400 Max driver and left my M4 in the bag for the day. Drives were noticeably longer, even misses. Going to play this driver for a few more rounds to see how things play out. Come on warmer weather. Although I was able to play in short sleeves, it was still cold on the first third of the round.

DeChambeau's group on Saturday, which included Patrick Reed and Erik van Rooyen, was put on the clock. Both Reed and van Rooyen were seen exiting the green late in the round, while they were on the clock, and walking to the next tee, while DeChambeau was still using his protractor around the green while he putted out. I kid about the protractor, but the overall issue remains. DeChambeau is very slow, and now he's causing his entire group to be on the clock, which now affects his playing partner's games. Perhaps it's why van Rooyen didn't play very well on Saturday, because DeChambeau was slow playing him (and Reed) to death. This issue isn't going away anytime soon, because he continues to be a problem with his pace of play. Perhaps if what I heard from the announcers on Saturday with regards to there being pace of play changes implemented, starting at Harbor Town in April, will correct this problem once and for all. But I will wait patiently to see if anything changes.
