  2. I plan to offer a review of the heads as well as the Modus 120 and Calibrate grips. There are already some Maltby fans here. I’d love to share this for someone who may be on the fence themselves.

  3. On my way upstate last night to clean out my condo before we dump it is stopped at PGATSS for a walk around and found a unicorn. They had a Toulon Madison with a plumbers neck and a stroke lab shaft. These were not part of the stroke lab line but from the looks of it this was an order from Odyssey but not Toulon Garage. Sole plate is the 20g steel plate and has a SS Flatso 2.0 installed flat side forward. For $135 I just couldn’t leave it there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. ... Exactly Big'un. Us old timers that have been around the game a long time also know this game is 75% mental and the other 50% is mental. Obviously if you have an open mind, you will find which clubs work best for your swing and your ability. Of course if you are already predisposed to love MB's because you think they will make you a better ball striker, there is a very good chance they will. And if you think GI's will improve your mishits allowing you to swing freer and hit the center more often, there is a very good chance they will. ... We grew up either learning to work the

  5. That is what makes golf such a funny game---- I have had days when I hit the ball great and could not make a putt--- Then I have had days where I could not hit a green or fairway and the wedges and putter bailed me out. And a whole lot of the equipment thing is how one utilizes the high launch shafts etc. The old timers call it knowing how to golf your ball.

  6. I knew that I couldn't be at the draft so I preset - I must say it nailed my team for me - exactly the type of players I was looking for - guys that make cuts and play in a lot of tournaments - from there I know it's try to figure out how to reshape and morph into a group that will continue deep into the PGA playoffs - I'm feeling really good about Matsuyama and Reed as my 1,2.

  7. I thik it'll depend on what one thinks makes them a "better" golfer. For me, it's the objective score. As subjective as everything is with feel, sound and looks, it all comes down to your true final score, no mulligans, no gimmes, counting penalties true: how many actual strokes it took for you to get the ball from the tee-box into the cup each hole. If I'm playing a match against someone with my GI irons adn higher launching shafts and more forgiving wedges and they have blades and I beat them, then that day, to me, I am the better golfer. You can work the ball this way and that all you wan

  8. Well my physical therapist today was a golfer and he was very confident with my shoulder healing and cleared me to go ahead and hit up to 3/4 shots with short irons. So I ventured to my club right next door and pulled out everything but 8, 9, putter, and my wedges. Walked 9 and dropped balls from 135 in but really keying on shots with a 60 Im playing around with. Felt good and pain free so it went well minus my swing plane a bit off. He did say he looks for me to be swinging freely in a week to 10 days. It sure felt good being back on the course.

  9. I think it's just semantics here. Yes, any reputable fitter will find a decent shaft to use to compare in multiple heads. A player won't swing comfortably if they have a poor shaft fit. So yes, technically the fitter will find a shaft that the golfer is comfortable with first before truly beginning the fitting. Once a comfortable shaft is found, then the fitter will cycle through heads to find a good fit. Once the heads have been narrowed down, then the true shaft fitting happens. This is what happened with me a True Spec. My fitter asked if I liked my current iron shaft and he saw

  15. my hdcp dropped quite a bit when i moved out of the SGI category to the CB 712 club......also the fat soled approach wedges are horrible and i saved a ton of strokes on the course with my vokeys.... play what works, not what marketing tells you to play.....test em all and buy what works for you regardless of hdcp.

  16. I have always been a proponent of play what you like and what works best for you and your game. Even though I am a lifetime blade user I flat refuse to tell anyone that blades will make them a better ball striker etc. I always say different strokes for different folks that's what makes the world go round and round. I am as brand agnostic as one can get

  17. Technically yes. You request demo clubs with different configurations and go hit them on a launch monitor or on the course to see what works. The OEMs also can ask questions to help guide the player into clubs that may work best. This is probably a better fitting than most players receive prior to buying clubs. If the consumer is educated a self performed personal fitting is possible. And for those that complain about CC and true spec being done indoors, this is a good option[emoji3]

  20. Just so everyone knows, the club techs are all at an event this week at Myrtle Beach and won't be able to start putting things together until next week. Probably looking mid to end of next week before they're sent out. the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

  21. Hahaha, I decided enough was enough and I had to pull the trigger! A side note...I was genuinely surprised at the head shape and size. Golfworks does itself no favors with the stock photos they offer for their clubs. I was not expecting this and I couldn’t be happier. From one Maltby fan to another, thank you [emoji4]

  22. In all honesty, It kind of started out with "what shaft would you like to play" so I think he really just wanted to get a feel for my level of knowledge about what I play and what I'm looking for. I told him that I didn't form any pre-conceived ideas because I wanted to be guided by the professional rather than convince myself that a certain shaft would be better. I ended up giving him my swing speed, ball speed, back spin, launch angle, and dispersion variance from center. I also explained my swing characteristics. We discussed the specs of my current shaft and what works for me and how

  25. In my time at MyGolfSpy (both as a member and a moderator), I think the request I've seen most often is to compare this year's Most Wanted Driver against previous year's winners. Until now, this wasn't something a reader could do by comparing the results pages, because differing years' tests were compiled with different testers and sometimes with tweaks in methodologies. Thus, as strokes gained number from 2019 couldn't be compared straight up to the same number from 2018. UNTIL THIS YEAR! That's a big announcement and it's going to be very interesting to see the outcome.

  26. I spoke with Austin from Fujikura, and had my over the phone fitting. We discussed details about my current driver and shaft setup and a bit about my current game (swingspeed, typically misses, etc.). Based on the discussion, I was fit into the F3 5S. The one thing I had pondered was 5S or 6S, but we decided to go 5S since my current shaft is in the 50 gram class and working pretty well for me. You can see in the attached picture a chart of the specs of all of the Motore X F3 shafts. Also below is a chart showing the Motore X bend profiles. I don't know the detailed bend profile for my TM made

  30. Just FWIW - some of these DTC companies offer demo clubs so you don't have to fully commit if you're not sure... https://www.golfsub70.com/sub-70-golf-demo-clubs.html https://benhogangolf.com/pages/ben-hogan-demo-program They also truly understand the benefits of getting fit; some have an online process and this one also provides direct contact information to the CEO for any questions... any. Our online fitting tool is a great resource for fitting information. However, if you need additional information or have questions please feel free to contact us directly. Every Sub 70

  31. I don't miss this - having to play a different ball from October (leaves) to April (plugging). The Tour is a very good ball - It did well in the MGS robot testing and as a human tester I will say that I could certainly game it. Stay away from the Tour x unless you have a very high swing speed - it was the case in our test group and also as I tested it - sometimes close to 20 yards shorter than the Tour or my gamer - Pro V1x. When I've let one of the high SS guys that I've been playing with hit it they do fine - its a flop for everyone else that I know.

  33. Yes, Phil is still hitting the ball a long way, particularly for his age, but has always been horrible accuracy-wise. Long and in the rough is not good for his condition. His marvelous short game is somewhat overrated. We get to see some miraculous Phil shots when he plays (because he has to make them), but he also makes a lot of mistakes with short game shots. I saw quite a few during the west coast swing. He hasn't been in the top 20 in Strokes Gained around the green since 2012. He can't recover from bad shots as well as he used to. I think Phil will play on the Champions Tour wi

  40. Today (02/26) Golf Galaxy has the same sale I posted above from Dicks. The Maxfli Tour Matte Greens are $17.98 a dozen until 10pm EST tonight. Also, my favorite mud plug balls, the Maxfli StraightFli Matte Whites are $6.98 a dozen. Are they tour caliber...NO...do they hurt less when they plug in the mud and you can't find them compared to a Pro V1...YES! And they actually play fairly well. JMHO....

  41. The survey should have another option for each question (none of the above). The only question that the options fit for me to answer was number 4. The other questions options did not apply. The survey does not seem to accept being submitted without all questions being answered. This will either force people to pick an option even if it does not apply or limit the people who can submit it to those who have purchased DTC in the past due to question 1.

  42. Hit some balls today after what has been a brutal stretch - besides my daughter’s health issues I’ve been in the room when a one year old died and sang for a 91 year old whose life is ending at any moment for half an hour before I hit balls. Lent starts tomorrow and I’m giving up drinking alcohol for it. Hit it beautifully on the range - warm, lots of wind - just alternated between driver, 7 iron, 7 wood and GW - pins were 250, 190, 155, 100. Was spot on them with each club (short on the 250 with driver but past the flags with the other clubs) Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  48. Finally got out again this weekend. As some of the others have said, it is very easy to use. I played a course I play alot that has multiple blind shots. My friends who have lasers have a tough time on this course because of the limited line of sight. My buddy used his laser and I used the Sky Caddie. Fun comparisons. Obviously, from the middle of the fairway with a clear view of the flag, both had similar readings. Where it got fun was from the rough (or trees) behind mounds/hills. The Sky Caddie showed good line and target while my buddy had to walk to the top of the hill to get clear
