... Personally I have been around long enough to know I don't trust the public to do the right thing. Ever. I post this for reference, not politics. For those wondering if you are gonna be forced to follow a Stay At Home order and whether or not your course will be open, take a look at your states Governor. 22 of 24 states with Democrats have issued a SAH. 9 of 26 states with Republicans have issued a SAH. While not all SAH states have declared golf courses non essential, your governor will have the biggest say in whether you can play golf. Moot point for me because either Chicago (or Phoenix) have too big a population with too many visitors to risk playing golf. But if I lived in a smaller town and could take proper precautions, I would be playing right now.8 points

How'd you play?
cksurfdude and 7 others reacted to CarlH for a topic
Started out strong with a birdie on the par 5 first hole and finished the 9 with a 38. Got a phone text that distracted me for the rest of the round and I lost focus. 3 doubles on the backside and shoot 83 for the round. On another note, the number of COVID 19 cases has been doubling in our county and I've made a conscious decision to quit playing golf as a group game for awhile, even though we are good about maintaining distances.8 points -
Just checked in on the Governor of Maryland’s Twitter feed. They arrested a guy that had a bonfire with 60 people... that’s just dumb. They should have locked up the other 59 with him. The comments make my blood boil. Not sure what the heck is wrong with people that they can’t understand what “State of Emergency” means. Good grief, if they can’t follow simple tasks this crap will never go away.8 points

I have a garage setup that includes the flight deck. I’m not a Costco guy but I’ve heard they are about half price there than anywhere else. The mat is great in terms of forgiveness and I find it to provide accurate spin numbers. I played 54 today at St. Andrews and no elbow pain. Let’s you know when you catch it fat and you can easily tear it down. I have a very basic setup with SkyTrak and it has been a blast to play on and I’d highly recommend it to anyone. Some of the most fun has been testing balls and seeing those results translate to a day on the course yesterday. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy7 points -

Started out in the 50s but was in the 80s by about noon when fog burned off and the sun came out. My short game was a miserable failure today but other than that I hit the ball and putted well. I can't seem to transfer my short game from the practice area to the course.6 points -
Players-Game Improvement Irons
cnosil and 4 others reacted to RickyBobby_PR for a topic
The hybrid between those are players distance irons. Examples are p790, i500, t200, t100s possibly, g710, z585 The best thing to do is get fit and find what iron regardless of category fits you best. Imo there’s no such thing as a game improvement club. Game improvement comes from getting better and that can happen with any type of club and can be maintained with same club. I have low hdcp friends with high swing speed that play GI and have friends that mis hdcp and mid swing speed that play/prefer smaller heads5 points -

Is your course open or closed?
ballplayer002003 and 4 others reacted to NiftyNiblick for a topic
Still closed. It's a 1906 Donald Ross course. In the early 2000s , it closed for two seasons to mitigate drainage issues and for complete historical restoration. Let's hope it's not as long this time. I can't play anymore, but I still enjoy the club...you know, lunch or drinks with the guys, playing cards, dinner with my wife and friends, stuff like that.5 points -

The wife and I went to Home Depot today to pick up some siding cleaner and garden soil to do a couple of projects and we wore masks. People look at us a little funny, but neither of us feel like getting sick or risking the life of her mom who has multiple health issues. We've been visiting her, at a distance, working on her yard and still are cautious when it comes to her health. On the way home, we drove by one of the courses in town and saw they're still open. I couldn't tell what kind of measures they had in place, but did notice those hitting on the range were a little closer together than I would feel comfortable with. My course is open but unfortunately the Army kicked us retired folks off post for fear we will spread the virus. Ironically the day after I was told we could no longer access the golf course I received a request from the Army asking me to come out of retirement to help with the healthcare mission. Duty calls even for us old broken Soldiers. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy5 points -

Got my KBS TD shaft in the mail. Tip is a little scratched from removal but nothing terrible an en in great condition. Won’t even have to trim the shaft as it is the perfect length. Adapter should be here in the next day or two as well as some new epoxy. My old container of epoxy seemed to spring a leak and end up in the box I was storing it in. Hoping I can get it assembled and in play this weekend.4 points -

There were a large number of people wearing gloves and masks at the grocery store yesterday morning. I wore gloves but no mask, and everyone did their best to maintain distance. Even where there weren't markings on the floor, folks stayed away if they needed to grab something near someone else. It made the whole trip take a little longer even with less people in the store, but I was pleasantly surprised with how cautious (and smart) everyone was being.4 points -
Had a heartbreaking 82 today. My buddy and me, both 63, a 10 and a 5 took on a Yankee minor league trainer and their triple A strength coach (also a certified TPI trainer). These guys are 29 and 33 and a 4 and a 14. They played the tips, we played up a set us v them even 5 dollar Nassau. Great young guys, fun match - my 10 shot 78 and we tied them. I did have some contributions including the day’s highlight, a hole out from 125 for Eagle when one of them was inside 5 feet for birdie. That was great. Hard to imagine the strength coach works with guys like Aaron Judge in the weight room. :) According to ARCOSS my approach game handicap was 15.5. :( I missed 13/18 approaches left. It seemed like all of those were with 6 or 7 iron. On 18, a par 5, I had 215 to the center into the wind, up hill, couldn’t reach, lots of trouble around the green. I said I’m hitting 6 iron. Tried to hit a cut and blistered the most beautiful 160 yard 2 yard draw you’d ever want to see. :) Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy4 points

Net Return Pro Series. Just got it, works great so far. Real Feel Country Club mat. Love the mat!4 points

The pro is a little bigger and has a tiny bit of an overhang so it protects against shots that might go a little higher when compared to the standard model. Can't speak for the standard model, but the pro is super easy to put up and take down. Under 2 minutes to do each4 points

Goodbye to Mom

I hope you guys don't mind me posting this. Most people would do it on Facebook. But I consider each if you friends more so than the 500 some FB says I have My mom passed away this morning in Pensacola, FL. She was 89 and had suffered with dementia the better part of the last 10 years. It had gotten progressively worse the past two years. I last saw her a year ago. At that time It was sadly obvious that She had no clue who I was or any recall of past events. She was put in hospice care at that time. The fact she battled it for another year is a testament to her toughness. She grew up on a small farm in MS with her father passing at a young age and a mom in bad health. At age 15, She pretty much raised her baby sister and took care of the house while still graduating HS before marrying my father a year afterwards. I was 10 and my brother 6 when my parents divorced. She worked full time and raised two sons, without us ever wanting for a thing Or going hungry. Well I never did get that racetrack set for Christmas that I kept asking for I owe every value I have to this day to her. She taught us how to be honest, account for our selves and treat others kindly. She didn't see color in people, she just saw the good in then. .. whee and when she was raised, that is actually damn impressive. I received many of my physical traits from her or her family, she had older twin brothers who were 6'4. During my adult years I visited her as often as I could. But not often enough. Yet she always had a full pan of lasagna, a huge baking dish of Banana Pudding and dozens and dozens of Chocolate Chip cookies. Like I said. We never went hungry. The timing really sucks. Obviously I and my brother and sisters can't travel there now. She made plans a couple years ago to be cremated. So that's what they will do. A family friend down there will hold on to her remais. When everything clears up, my siblings and I will meet in MS for a service and say our goodbyes. This was my last picture with her. Time and illness had taken a toll on her. But she still managed a smile. Rest in peace Mom. I love you.3 points -

... Bounce is like forgiveness, golfers should use as much as they can effectively play. Given medium to lush conditions bounce will never hurt you but often help you. As you said, in some conditions like no rough, bare bunkers and very tight lies that border on or even actual hard pan found on a typical desert course, a low bounce wedge is your best option. I play my 12* D Grind in Chicago/Orlando and my 8* M Grind in Phoenix. After playing low bounce wedges most of my golfing life because high bounce wedges usually had a very wide sole, moving to more bounce with some relief grinding producing an effectively narrow sole was real eye opener for me.3 points -

I just posted this email on the Northeast Ohio thread - guess there was some confusion by the State along with the Golf Courses. From: The Toledo District Golf Association Date: March 30, 2020 To: Members of the TDGA Golfing Community Subject: COVID-19 Update Good Morning from the TDGA, It's been a turbulent week for the golf industry not only in Ohio, but all over the world. As you probably know, on March 28, 2020 the Ohio Health Department mandated that all golf courses close. This message came to us just a day after Dr. Amy Akton indicated that it was OK to play golf. Then on March 29. 2020, the Health Department reversed itself and now says courses may open. If you play, please follow social distancing practices as outlined in the Ohio Stay at Home order. Please do not gather around picnic tables or in the parking lot for post round get togethers. Please do your part to contain the spread of this very deadly disease.3 points

Here in Tasmania our courses are all still open to the best of my knowledge. My home course, Seabrook G C, is open with a limit of 2 players per group. You fill in and sign your own card, announcing your score to your playing partner after each hole. Competition payment is card only, no cash. We only have a few carts but as most places a limit of 1 person per cart. Holes still at normal depth but pins removed and holes close to the centre of all greens. Happy and safe play to all.3 points -
