A lady in my office bragged all of yesterday morning about the bonfire party she attended over the weekend on a lake about 90 miles from here. Just before lunch, I wasn't having it anymore. I asked her how responsible she thought that was given the situation. Exposing herself to large groups of people from other regions and bringing it back to our workspace to potentially infect the rest of us. She countered with something to the effect of "I have a social life. I'm not giving that up because it doesn't meet your approval!" With that, she began posting dozens of pictures on Facebook of her weekend extravaganza. Within an hour, management sent her home with instructions to not return until the governor's "shelter in place" directive is rescinded. It appears, I'm not the only one who doesn't approve! Here's to hoping she doesn't return at all!!!!!15 points

Unfortunately, we live in a world filled with narcissism and self-indulgence. People rarely stop to think of how their actions impact those around them. For me, this hasn't been much of a change. I'm pretty reclusive anyway. My circle is very small and I don't trust people in-general. Social distancing is something I've been doing my whole life. That's why I live in a region where the population is roughly 60,000 people per 1,000 square miles! I readily admit, I was late to the party on this whole mess. I thought initially, it was being massively overblown. But after gathering some information on "flattening the curve" the lightbulb went off. This isn't about me. It's about those I may come into contact with. Stopping the spread means we all have to sacrifice in some way. So, my family and I began doing our part, which wasn't much of a change for us. Sadly, we can't make irresponsible people understand responsibility.12 points

Really discouraging seeing photos of people congregating and watching the Naval ship dock in NYC yesterday when that is where the highest level of cases are in the country.... it sucks, it really does, we're social beings by nature. I'm not that much of an extrovert but not being able to go out and about is a bummer. However - it brings me back to my time at boot camp at MCRD and what we heard plenty of: Suck It Up. Do the right thing. For you. For your family. For your friends. For your country. #AloneTogether11 points -
Yeah buddy. I love our freedoms, support and defend them for my career, but the complete disregard for life and safety is unreal across the whole country. I practice social distancing even during normal times. Live out away from everyone for the most part, avoid large gatherings. Not much has changed for me, except I have to use the quote from Al Pacino in The Recruit... “Trust no one”... while at work and when I have to go out for food.10 points

... I think many saw this coming. I agree it is sad all current "news" outlets simply tell their base what they want to hear. 24 hr news stations are money makers when back in the day they were loss leaders because they were accurate, not telling their audience what they wanted to hear. That said, it is one thing to slant politics to fit their base, it is quite another to mislead their audience when the owners are taking precautions against a worldwide pandemic they know is coming. I really hope this is a wake up call for people locked in to one "news" source. Politics have divided and distracted our country which is exactly what some wanted all along, but I hope this medical crises brings us back together.8 points

Yep. Management has it's problems in my company, but it is all in on protecting it's workers. They are keeping in touch with all of us that are on shut down, and trying their best to help get everyone signed up for unemployment. They are paying our medical insurance 100% through the whole thing.... although we will be responsible for paying it back over the course of time. It's good to know that you work for an employer that really does care about the employees.6 points -

Honestly didn’t expect it. I thought they’d immediately say, “Send us yours, here’s a free label, and once we receive it, we’ll send you another one, free shipping.” Nope. I was going to return it no matter what, but to have them actually say, “It doesn’t appear defective,” was a shock. When I sent three pics to their Instagram account, they immediately replied that I’d be taken care of. Anyway. No Jones Sports stuff for me in the future based on this experience! I only watch the press and live video releases from our Governor as the definitive source for Covid since it pertains to my family directly. I take everything else with a grain of salt. The amount of finger pointing at the federal level is ridiculous and the politics that have become involved in all aspects are just sad. Work for the betterment of your people. I feel like that mantra has been lost on the Federal side... On a good note, I'm pretty sure my family has finished every puzzle in the house my wife and kids could find. I'm pretty sure I'm going to rename my son Youtube...since that's what he only seems to respond too....LOL MDGolfHacker5 points -

Jones sports called me yesterday. Tried to tell me that the bag was not defective based on the pictures. I told them they were crazy and that it was coming back. They then tried to tell me they wouldn’t pay for return shipping. Got a manager on the phone and they ultimately sent me a free label. Was much harder than I expected! The service wasn’t as good as what I thought it would be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro5 points -
It's funny you should mention 911 calls. My city sent a mass text message yesterday afternoon that read "911 is for emergencies! Do not call 911 with questions about business closures, restaurant deliveries, potential curfews, or the governors shelter in place directive!" It's sad local officials have to do this. People are stupid!5 points

I am fortunate to have the ability to play a lot of golf right now. My home club is open with restrictions in place. Guest play isn't permitted until this is over, the clubhouse is closed and carts are off limits. Walking only! We don't have dining or a range so those aren't a concern.5 points

Sub70 golf

So, it has been a few weeks since I have tried the Sub 70 639 MB/CB. I wanted to get this up earlier, but as a driving instructor for a trucking company that moves food grade products, I have been training and driving many hours to keep shelves stocked in these crazy times. First off, the customer service is amazing! They truly care about their product and their consumer. They are good looking products that performs just as well. I play distance irons with a hollow body design, and one major problem I have with them is that they are jumpy and can hit some really hot ones that fly way past my normal yardage. I enjoyed the MB's the best, they launched really easy, and I thought I would sacrifice some yardage, but these were spot on my yardage as my gamers, but more consistent. It was difficult to send these back. Really happy with the demo process, and looking forward to doing business with them again. Pictures posted in a weird order. 1) CB 6-iron 2) MB 9-iron address 3) MB 9-iron 4) CB 6-iron address5 points -
It's interesting to see that the CDC is now considering recommending the general public wear face masks. My opinion is that the prior recommendation that the general public should not wear face masks because it won't prevent transmission of the disease is too black and white. I understand that it won't prevent, but could it reduce the chances of transmission, even by a small percentage? If asymptomatic carriers wear them, will it help reduce the chance of them transmitting it to another person? If it helps by at least by some small percentage, then I think we should use them. However, we would need to be careful to ensure people don't start hoarding face masks and taking them away from healthcare providers. I guess the other potential issue is that people will become overconfident and feel protected by the mask and then not follow social distancing.4 points

I'm right there with you. I felt the same way early on. I've come to realize this is way more serious than I believed it to be. I only go out for groceries, that's it. I do walk my dogs every day, but that is not the same thing as being around people. I will probably play golf, but it will be alone and walking. I'll do my part for as long as it takes to get a handle on this thing. Hopefully we can all get back to normal in the not too distant future.4 points -
The spin averaged out to be 200 RPMs different, but when I watched the whole video, the look of the ball flight from the Cobra seemed to be even higher than that difference. Might just have been the 3 mph more ball speed from the Mavrik making it look that way. Yeah, would be fun I go through that process for sure!!!! Just incredible that Ian can see tweaking it just that LITTLE BIT more with a shaft, or hot melt, etc to get it fully maxed-out for Matt. Just amazing knowledge there.... ... I don't think we could get a better example of the saying "Close the barn door after the horse has bolted". It is always difficult to trust any "news" today but I saw a statistic that said 25% of cases are asymptomatic so these people can spread the virus and never know they are infected. This is why SAH, social distancing is so important.4 points

2020 Official Member Review: PING G710 Irons
Nunfa0 and 3 others reacted to perseveringgolfer for a topic
very keen to have a proper fitting for these irons. Am I the only one that has looked at pretty much every review of them on youtube recently? I wont be going in to the fitting and testing with any pre conceived ideas, apart from the fact they have all been pretty positive so far about looks and sound, and ultra positive about dispersion. My biggest concern about any GI club is the potential 'flier' that has plagued some GI clubs in the past. Callaway Apex springs to mind with numerous reports of 'suddenly' hitting a club 20+ yards further than normal. Consistent testing especially with arccos in the grips will really help answer that one I hope.4 points -
I plan to go with whatever the fitter recommends. Will be interested to see if i end up with graphite. I have not had an iron fitting in over 7 years and i know my swing has evolved since then. I would think i need mid/high launch shafts BUT the G710's have so much bounce to get the ball up that it my detract from the shaft. We'll see....4 points

... Personally I have been around long enough to know I don't trust the public to do the right thing. Ever. I post this for reference, not politics. For those wondering if you are gonna be forced to follow a Stay At Home order and whether or not your course will be open, take a look at your states Governor. 22 of 24 states with Democrats have issued a SAH. 9 of 26 states with Republicans have issued a SAH. While not all SAH states have declared golf courses non essential, your governor will have the biggest say in whether you can play golf. Moot point for me because either Chicago (or Phoenix) have too big a population with too many visitors to risk playing golf. But if I lived in a smaller town and could take proper precautions, I would be playing right now.4 points

GPS vs Rangfinders
downlowkey and 2 others reacted to chisag for a topic
... Another great read from Barbajo! He brings up some interesting points about both. I am a rangefinder guy and love the simplicity of, and for once this is accurate ... just point and shoot. When I am swinging well, I like exact yardage because I can hit close to those exact numbers. Add to that I am not a tech nerd, and I mean "nerd" in the most complementary way so fiddling with numbers or arrows is beyond my technical ability when I just want an exact number, then pull my club and swing. Combined with the fact that I have never worn a watch, ring or anything else on my fingers, hands or wrists so a GPS watch ain't gonna be the first. Carrying a hand held unit would also be an inconvenience because I walk 95% of the time and like to grab my rangefinder from my bag, shoot the yardage and it's back in my bag in less than 10 seconds. Thankfully I still have 20-15 vision but alas at 67 anything right in front of my face is hieroglyphics without my reading glasses. Rangefinder is the clear choice for me. ... John brings up some great points for a GPS unit. Playing a new course, a blind shot renders my rangefinder useless as well as if I cut the corner over those trees, what is on the other side and how far is it? Of course a GPS has those numbers, perhaps along with a visual. Soon as I saw the title I thought "Oh boy here we go again" but it is very well written and I found it quite interesting and informative. https://mygolfspy.com/gps-vs-rangefinder/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Mygolfspy+(MyGolfSpy+-+Top-Secret+Golf+News+Everyday!)3 points -

I would keep an open mind to used sets as well. A great way to get a wonderful set of clubs from a manufacturer you know makes quality equipment and then you can always have a local shop help to do the fitting and adjust anything needed. A 14 year old will most likely be happy with their own clubs even if it's a 8-10 year old driver or 7 year old irons...etc.3 points -
My understanding in the irons they use them to dial in swing weight. In the wedges it gets the weight higher and in the toe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Exactly what I'm saying...that we all need to heed the warnings and stay in as much as possible...but that's obviously not happening, just look @Shankster posts in this feed about people going out all over the place. This was my point, that people can be told over and over again what needs to be done, but some people only learn by going through the "fire", or being dumb as you put it in one of your earlier posts...you can't blame the government for that.3 points -

The number of people who call 911 has gone up to normal levels in my city. We had a lower number of calls for about a week and now it is back to normal with people calling for things that aren't a life threatening emergency. I'm a huge Big Max fan - they have several of their better models discounted to under $200 right now, including the Blade+, which I rolled for several years. I like how they're VERY simple to open and close, use simple components and don't have bicycle-type break systems - just move the lever with your foot to hold one rear wheel in place. Nothing to go wrong, nothing to wear out. They also fold silly-flat for easy storage. https://us.bigmaxgolf.com/golf-carts/3 points -

See Jon, I'm thinking I'm in the same boat. I too will go with what gets recommended but I've got a hunch I'm ending up in that mid/high shaft category myself, but I will say the counter balanced Alta CB is intriguing. EDIT: And the reason I find that shaft most intriguing is that one of my main gripes with graphite shafts in irons is that I lose the feel in the head, meaning I just don't know where the club is in space, whenever I tried them at a demo day or a golf shop due to the lower weight. Perhaps the counterbalanced aspect of the Alta CB could fix that? Hard to say.3 points -
