  1. Hey all y’all #venomspitters I remembered how to strike a ball today! 4 iron and 3 wood off the tee was a deadly combination. I’ve never played this conservatively in my life, it was way more stress free than usual. The driver never even left the bag. FIR 9/11 GIR 12/18 Burgers: 6

  3. So this week is shaping up well, @GB13 is shooting low scores and producing multiple burgers, @B.Boston producing bombs and great numbers, @edingc is turning into an Iron Byron with that driver, @daviddvm sounds like he has the one lengths working for him but i'm still trying to recover from that little tweet @Headhammer dropped on us like...

  4. I like to think of the parts of my golf game as pieces of the unattainable triangle (typically "quality, speed, price"), but in this case "driver, irons, putter." You can usually only have two! On days I drive the ball well, I probably won't putt well. On days I putt well, I bet I didn't strike my irons well. Etc. That's how you end up like me!

I replaced the AC system in my truck yesterday. Took about 6 hours, would have been 5 if I'd had a stud puller. I took it to my mechanic yesterday afternoon and we pulled a vacuum on it, held it for a bit (no leaks!) and recharged. Setting the climate control to 60° with the fan going full, the air coming out of the vents is a nipple hardening 34°...it's so nice to actually be comfortable in the tuck again.

Very random but on vacation and my 14 year old son caught the eye of a nice young lady. They spent the day hanging out in the pool and he asked if they could go out tonight. First time letting my son (also my oldest) go out on a date. My wife just asked me how do you think he is doing? I said hopefully rounding second and got a glare. Guess this is the dad vs mom difference. At any rate happy for the kid, he is a smart kid that wants to go to a service academy and serve our country. A little dorky and a little goofy but a damn good kid hitting a milestone for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    How'd you play?

+3 (39) 43% FiR 56% GiR 16 putts (1 3-putt) Couldn't really make a putt, kept leaving it short, but didn't make any huge mistakes which was nice. Lots of thin shots, need to work on low point!

  8. ... I have ben playing quite a few practice rounds as well as regular rounds so I took advantage of the GolfDiscount.com sale of Srixon 6 pack of Z Star balls for $9.99 with free shipping over $99. Ordered 5 dozen Z Star for less than $100. Considering the Z Star was only one of four balls to receive the MGS Ball Test Excellent designation, it is a difficult deal to beat.

My wife does not want to accept that our 12 year old is growing and not longer her baby. I told her it only going to get weird for the next couple of years, so avoid touching any of his socks or underwear, he needs to learn to do his own laundry. Every day I look at him and think that just yesterday I could hold him as a little football, now I am about to teach him how to shave. I hope your son's date went well.

    MGS Bag Tag

Have a couple on some of my bags. I can't count how many people at a local driving range I use to go to would ask me about the MGS tags (what is it, what does it mean, etc?). Each year more and more people would actually ask me if I liked/loved MGS as MGS gained in popularity. And I would keep explaining why I loved the site/reviews, etc and one year it got to the point I didn't want to hit off the mats because it was a high traffic area so I would go to the grass to hit ball where there was less foot traffic and I could focus. Every so often I look at those bag tags and it makes me think of all the questions I use to get and today everyone knows who/what MGS is. I can't take those tags off my bag. Pretty cool. Oh yeah the tags look great as well.

  14. Well it was Christmas in July today. Got home from looking at a college with my daughter and there was a present at my front door! Great packaging for the clubs, better than anything else I have received from other companies in the past. The box is even first class. The slogan on the box reads "Expectations Redefined". Other than the clubs there were also other surprises in the box as well. A hand written note from Jason at Sub 70, a nice hat, and a sticker for my car. Each clubhead was wrapped in plastic and each one had the clubs specks on a label. First impressions: I was expecting a slightly smaller club head in length compared to my game improvement Irons. This was not the case. So one of my concerns turned out not to be one . The offset is less which was expected but isn't much of a concern for me. You can see a side by side comparison below. Craftsmanship was perfect. I did not find any flaws throughout the set. A few swings in the living room and everything felt and looked good. I am working on a loft comparison chart. Game improvement irons are always strong lofted. So I want to be taking everything into consideration during the testing. Everything was starting off on a good note until I unwrapped the last club (Don't worry). Then there was a crack of thunder and then the skies opened up. My planned run over to the driving range came to a halt. At least it gave me time to put this post together. Testing starts on Sunday. I have a golf tournament tomorrow and I think it best to get more familiarity with the new sticks before I put them in play (But I want to so badly). I'm trying to squash the demon on my shoulder telling me to put them in the bag!

    How'd you play?

Honestly playing 9 hole rounds kinda feels like I have a vanity cap when it combines them in the ghin app. I'm currently at a 7.7 because of my past few after work 9s have been decent scores, but it feels like if I had played 18, I probably would've had a chance to have a meltdown and the universe would've balanced itself. That said, I don't think anything has changed with me swing-wise nor have I made any substantial equipment changes. Swing wise I'm just trying to not move off the ball in my takeaway, simple thoughts. The only non-clubho thing I've done that might've had a significant change is playing lighter wedges (or at least they feel lighter overall). I have no idea if the Callaway wedges I was playing before were actually heavier overall, but the s300 shaft and I are not a match. My wedge shaft experiment was surprisingly successful, though I probably shouldn't be surprised because the principle behind it is something that most fitters commonly do -- a little heavier, a little softer. Mentally, I've come to accept that I'm not as bad a putter as I thought, my proximity to hole just sucks. Credit to @THEZIPR23 for that realization. At the same time, I'm not good enough to attack every pin so accepting the "play to the middle and 2-putt" strategy has probably saved me a stroke or two when I don't choke and 3-putt. Doesn't feel like I'm playing better really, just feels like I'm better at avoiding double bogey now. If that makes sense?

    How'd you play?

Shot a 50 on the front 9 today which includes a complete meltdown hole where i took the max strokes. Hit two balls in the water off of sidehill lies. The round took so long and we were so tired at the end that i stop keeping score part way through the back 9. The guys in front were super slow. The guys i plated with were both single digit handicapers and all 3 were so tired at the end we were all hitting shots that made it look like none of us had played golf before.

  23. Played 18 today and continued to struggle with driver (finding the middle of the face). Good news is that I shot 75. Short game really saved my butt on the front nine. I just need to spend some time hitting balls into a net or on the range with some foot spray to figure out the contact issue. Frustrating to be swinging so fast to hit drives terribly. 3 wood was phenomenal though. I was pin high in two on a 590yd par 5 today. Speed without control is pretty useless. That’s what makes Bryson and Finau so amazing. Long drive professionals are lucky to get a few balls in the grid in a tournament. These PGA Tour guys are doing it every single round of competition. I did hit one bomb though. Granted it was blowing 15mph downwind, but it went 375yds! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  24. The rain stopped for about 10 minutes before it got dark. I grabbed the 7 iron and a sleeve of birdie balls. They only fly 40 yards. After I hit, I could have put a golf towel over the three of them. It looks to be a great start.

    How'd you play?

Haven't had a chance to get an 18 hole round in for several weeks until last nght due to several rain-outs after 9 to 12 holes. Played my best front nine ever on our toughest course 41, but then threw up a triple bogey on a pretty simple No. 10 hole That was a sign of things to come. Roller Coaster back nine of 7,3,7,3,7,4,7,5,5 for 48 in total 89. I hit the ball as solid as I have all year. The 7 (two of them par 5's) came as a result of the wind really playing havoc on some long carries over cross hazards. And my putting was probably as off as it had been all year. But the good stuff, average drive was maybe 15 yards longer than it had been, thanks to some recent lessons that have really helped me with my turn. And my wedge game around the green was really on point.

Very true. Every time my daughter went on a date, I didn't wonder what base she was getting to, I was wondering if she was going to kick him between the legs for touching her inappropriately. My daughter took self-defense classes for a few years, let me tell you I've never had to worry about her. I've worried about the guys who took her out

Take credit, you are playing better. You have adapted your strategy to hit the green and 2 putt; play for bogey at worse. My coach reminds me of this everytime we talk about my game. Establish the right metrics and play to a set strategy.

  33. I wanted to follow up on my round yesterday. Had a 8:40 tee time at Timber Creek Golf Club. Upon arrival I could see the place was packed! They were having a tournament that was to kick off at 8:30 and would occupy two the three nine hole courses. So they intended the non-tournament groups to play the Timber Trail 9 holes twice for a 18 hole round. Well that was okay but would not be my ideal choice for this weeks competition. Without giving too much away it was a day of two types of shots, spectacular or embarrassing, but I managed the round well and putted great which can make for many sins. As an example of the day...hole #1 first time: Hole #1 second time through: First nine: One birdie, four pars, three bogies, one double and two penalties. Second nine: One birdie, three pars, four bogies, one double and no penalties. I managed the round well and never got too frustrated with numerous poor shots in the wet condition and responded with many outstanding shots that left me feeling very good about the round and the state of my game. Loving the ONE length hybrid and and irons!!!!!!!!! Ended the day with a highlight 60* flop shot over a bunker to 4 feet and I made the little downhill put!!! This hole was playing down wind 12 mph. No personal bests here but a good day. And below is my current trends. The driving trend has me concerned but approach numbers are gonna more than make up for that and my overall is trending the right direction. The heavy rains we have been dealing with for the last three weeks look to be gone for this weekend and next week so I'm looking forward to getting back out on course this weekend.

  35. Teed off this morning at 6a and finished a quick 9 holes in one hour and 15 at Greystone which is a beautiful links course where I play most often. While I wasn't playing for a low score I shot 38 with 3 bogeys, one birdie, 3 GIR and 15 putts. It was more about course management and hitting more irons off the tee (4UiHi) to set myself up with more approaches with mid and longer irons. I finished the round with a 3 putt from 15 feet so ouch! As I develop some confidence with these irons I am learning, well, reinforcing the fact that my yardages with these irons are slightly shorter than what I am used to. I don't have an issue with that as it could just be a product of getting older. I am going to dig deeper into this point but one thing I have learned with the Icon heads is that they are much more forgiving than their predecessor. Without having precise data, I am learning that my toe-miss (my common miss for my irons) is consistently 5 yards short. The Fort Worth heads would be far worse and require a precise strike to stay within their margin of error. Face-on video is the 4 UiHi and the tee shot on the 3 is a 6 iron from 175.

First two days of my golf odyssey at Crystal Springs are in the book. Shot a +1 73 yesterday at Crystal Springs from the tips and a +1 72 today at Wild Turkey from the blue tees. Hitting it well overall and just can’t get a putt to drop. In the last two days I hit 32/36 greens and I am 2 over par...not good. Arccos tells me I am a plus 15 for my game and a 17 index on the greens. Hard to argue that point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  46. @cnosil @ChasingScratch thanks for the videos here. Tony is spot on about the upper body. It looks like your having trouble separating the pelvis from the torso during transition leading to your upper body leaning towards the target too soon. During transition the upper body should still be rotating back while the pelvis is beginning to move in the opposite direction towards the target. This is what is referred to as the X Factor stretch and is highly correlated to club head speed. Without a physical assessment these drills from private players of ours should give you some things to work on. https://app.coachnow.io/posts/c2ac0b761ae64e2cae804021e7f257e4 https://app.coachnow.io/posts/28e1d7a35a7f48668a846a3d7eb40cad https://app.coachnow.io/posts/bb4c9fb048224eecb9d465501f9c12c3

  47. Android. Moto G7. You can get nicely spec'ed midrange Android phones for much less than iPhones. Back in the day, I used to root my phones - not so much reason to do that now. I prefer the homescreen customizations in Android as well. Interestingly enough, I use a Mac for work and really like it, so I'm not anti-Apple. I do use an old iPhone 5s for Arccos.
