  1. ... Other than Allen Iverson I will never understand why people pay for AAA Used balls having no idea where they came from when you can buy PRACTICE balls for less than 50% of the new price. For those unfamiliar, they are the same as brand new balls they just have PRACTICE stamped on them. Not second quality, not blemished just PRACTICE. Here is a great deal on some TP5 Pix PRACTICE balls and they also have the TP5 and TP5x in plain white for $19.99 and if you buy 5 dozen the shipping is free: https://www.golfdiscount.com/taylormade-2019-tp5-pix-20-practice-bagged-golf-balls?___store=default&nosto=nosto-page-category2

    How'd you play?

47/46 93. Driver was off its' chops all day leaving me in a bad position a lot. First time out with the D7's and while I didn't hit any in the power holes, they seem to be working well.

    How'd you play?

Played 9 regular holes and shot 38. Then hit all irons on the back for the D7 test. The wind was 20 mph with gusts going up from there. Not ideal test conditions. But I saw the value of carrying a 4 iron. :) Oh and I walked.... Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

    How'd you play?

Shot an 88 today in sunny but chilly weather. It was about 60 when my wife and I teed off, however, the wind was blowing 15-20. Driver worked for the most part today, but the greens were challenging since they were just punched and sanded a few days ago. An issue that's surfaced is my short game. My wedges 52*, 56* and 60* have all lost distance. Need to figure what's going on - back to the practice holes next week. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

I think if we take a sec and don't just eat what the media is feeding us, it's clear that Bryson is not good just because he drives it far. As mentioned by a few people, Bryson obviously does hit it really far, but so do a good chunk of other players as well. The difference was also not just his impressive tee shot performance but also putting. And approach. And putting. And scrambling...notice a trend? Haha. Bryson played a friggin' fantastic round, there is no way around that. I think it says something that the last month or two when Bryson wasn't at the top of the leaderboards the distance debate went waaaaaay down, even though a guy who can hit just as far (DJ) was dominating. I think the reason Bryson's success comes with all this "controversy" more than other long hitters is pretty simple: lots of people don't like Bryson. For some it's just because he's not traditional, and they take an old school approach. Then when he succeeds and it flies in the face of "their" way, they think it shouldn't be allowed. For other people I think his personality and how he comes off rubs him wrong. I'm sure some don't like the way his swing looks. Whatever the case...here are some FACTS: Bryson was 3rd in strokes gained off the tee. Rory was first, more than 1.5 strokes gained on Bryson. Bubba was second by a bit, and Rahm was just behind Bryson. (PS hey Rory, maybe instead of complaining about how well Bryson played you should figure out what the heck you're doing around the greens, yikes.) Bryson was top 3 strokes gained in Driving, Approach, and Around the Green. That's literally insane, good for him. 18th for putting, still nothing to scoff at. THAT's why he won, he played such a complete tournament. Okay, rant over haha. I do appreciate GC actually trying to make sure people know he played good all around and it wasn't just his driving, the rest of the golf world would do good to have a healthy perspective change on Bryson's game. Admittedly not a big Bryson fan myself, but it's a personality thing for me. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

  8. As promised, some comparison pictures between the current testing clubs, the D7 Forged and the 699 Pros. So this last picture shows the biggest difference between the two. Notice the D7 has 7 groves that are full length, the 699's have only 6. This makes the 699 look incredibly narrow in the heel and high in the toe at address to me. I got the 699 to replace my i500 and to match my 639-CB set. But I could never get comfortable looking at it and kept the i500 in the bag. All that babble aside, if anyone has any questions for me in how the D7 Forged compare to Ping i200s or i500s, or Sub 70 639-CB or 699 Pros ask away.

I’m already tired of hearing Rory, and others who kill the ball, whine about length, and armlock, etc. Rory hits the ball almost as far.... DJ, Koepka, etc all do, so don’t give me, “Awe, Bryson hits it TOO far! That’s not fair.” Dude. You hit it 350 too. Quit whining. For anyone who hits the ball in the top 10% of all PGA players for distance to be complaining, that is ridiculous.

  12. Not officially charted but yesterday was my The Grint club tournament, so I played a few holes with one of the groups before my tee time. #5 at Windmill Lakes I lost the driver short and right leaving 200 to the middle with the pin in the front quadrant. I thought 4 iron because 185ish is good for the Bridgestone. Well...D7 to the middle and rolled to the back.

  13. No issues with the finish. Everything appears to be built very nicely. Shaft logos down, tight ferrules, grips on straight. Just one issue. I ordered the clubs -1.5 flat, and the spec sheet reports the build at -1.0 flat. So that's not great. I just pinged the fitter at Club Champion; I'm hoping to bring them over for a spec check/adjustment in the next couple days. My daughter was not feeling well this morning, so I played a quick nine by myself. No video evidence exists, which is a good thing. My back was bothering me; I should have stayed home and did yoga instead. I did hit another one high off the toe, this time with a 6 iron, and lost a solid 25 yards on it. Luckily it was a tee shot, so it was the difference between a gap wedge and a 9 iron. Let's talk short game for a moment. Hot Chip pretty much sums it up. The face on these clubs is lively. The ball feels like it leaps off the clubface on short shots. I have hit about 80% of my chip shots past the hole. And not a little past the hole. A good 8-10 feet past the hole. I'm trying to use higher lofted clubs for bump and run shots, but I still feel like I'm hitting a super-ball. I'm not too terribly worried, though. I remember having the same problem with the Cobras, so I'm sure I'll get used to these.

  15. Equipment manufacturers foot the bill for so much of the cottage-industries surrounding golf. Without the equipment manufacturers, we wouldn't have golf on TV, magazines, websites like MGS, or entertainment entities like No Laying Up or EAL. It's also probable, the USGA wouldn't exist, at least not in the sense that the USGA exists today. That being said, the equipment manufacturers aren't going to get overly bent out of shape over the anchored putter ban because they don't sell billions of dollars worth of broom sticks. But if the USGA messes with golf ball and driver technology the equipment manufacturers spent millions developing over the past 20+ years, we will see litigation the likes of which the golf industry has never seen. Including the Ping lawsuits over the Eye 2's, in which the USGA ultimately lost. My point is, the USGA can't put the toothpaste back in he tube. Where we are today is likely never going to reverse. If limits on technology are warranted, they need to stop it where it is today and limit what is yet to come. Coincidentally, I liken this issue to what's happening in baseball today. Speed is king. Swing hard and hit 45 HR's or strike out 200 times a season. Batting average is irrelevant. OBP and OBPS are the key stats in baseball today. It doesn't matter how you get on base. Therefore, we are seeing record numbers of stirkeouts, walks and homeruns.

  19. I've been hitting a few shots per round crazy long. It hasn't happened off the tee, or of the fairway, so I'm blaming this on getting flyers from the rough, but I'm getting them more frequently and way further distance than ever before. Yesterday, I had 145y to a back pin, really good lie in the rough (ball fully visible and sitting up). Hitting these a little longer than my previous set, I pulled 9i, figuring on about 140y of carry. Hit a pure shot, right at the pin... Flew the green and had a 30y shot back to the green... Shotscope tracked it as a 179y 9i. The round before it was a 5i that went 40y further than expected and a PW that went 30y more than expected. This isn't ideal. I'm going to use CG quad today to check gaping, I'll see if I get any of these type shots off a mat.

  20. Work in progress. The house was build in the late 50’s when really bad wood paneling was a really good idea. We tried to paint it, but as your can see... it looks horrible... and that color... Wife wanted to do some faux Shiplap... it’s turning out better than I expected. Trim will box this in after it gets a coat of paint. 3 rooms like this, possibly 4.

"If they want to Tiger-proof it, there is a way. Use the ladies' tees, eliminate all the rough, put pins in the easiest locations and widen the fairways. That brings everybody in the field into the tournament and I guarantee you, Tiger wouldn't win!" ~Earl Woods circa 2002~

  25. I’m really not enjoying the process of stripping back the deck in my pool area prior to reselling it. It’s a reasonably large area, about 280 square feet, so it’s taking longer than I hoped. I wish I’d found the deck oil I’m using now earlier. The old oil had an ugly yellow pigment in it, and isn’t easy to remove. Some hideously stinky stripper, and multiple blasts with the pressure washer is getting me close to being able to reseal. A few patches need a bit of stripper applied, then refresh the timber and I’ll be right to go. The oil application is the easy part.

Absolutely beautiful day today!! No smoke, sunny with temp at 65º at 7:30 tee time and warmed up to 80º when we finished at 11am. Ball striking still continues to be much better than the last few weeks. Still having trouble getting the ball to the hole on chips and putts on our greens... still slow; beautiful looking but slow. Shot 42 on the front nine, better than the 48 yesterday, and another 39 on the back nine for an 81 that included four (4) 3-putts, but I had NO doubles or worse!!! I'm reading the putts well, just leaving the putt short, dead in the heart. I also need to fly the ball closer to the hole on chips/pitches. I had been playing more bump 'n runs, and they just don't run like I think they should.

    How'd you play?

7am tee time this morning, usually never get out that early, so maybe I came out a bit cold. Scramble-fest on the front, but did alright with a long birdie on 7 really helping (wound up being the only one for the round). Back 9 was generally a lot more steady with 8/9 greens in regulation, but nothing too tight so I wound up with a bunch of two putt pats. Only exception was on 13, a dogleg left perfect for my draw, but I wound up with a pull hook and unlucky bounce off the cart path for my first OB in like a month, leading to an ugly double. 39-38 for a 77 (+5). Currently dropping my handicap below 5, but I’m thinking there should be a PCC adjustment as the blacks and blues were playing essentially the same.

  36. Alright so first round back since the new baby and I definitely notice the difference in playing weekly and taking 2 weeks off. Swing is still pretty much there but needs some tuning up. I won't post the scorecard as I did not have a great round and shot 100. However, what I did notice is that I was definitely not as nervous or jittery as I thought I would be getting back after 2 weeks. I took a full dose of the tincture before leaving home which was about 1 hour before the tee time. Warmed up a bit at the range and then headed out with my group. Even through out the round as I was hitting shots I would normally make, I was noticeable calm about it (even having my 3 year old with me on the course!). I hit a great 299 yard drive and one of my playing partners said it was the most relaxed swing he has seen me make! Of course I pulled it into the greenside bunker next shot but I managed to get out in 1 and get a par save for up and down. Now for the morning after report. I noticed some cramps in my legs at night ( I took another full dose of the tincture before bed, had a gummy, and applied the cream to my lower back and knees). Woke me up about 2 times during the night but I was able to stretch it out and go back to bed. Sometimes these leg cramps I have in my calves can take a while to stretch out but I noticed I was able to recover quickly from the cramps though not sure if it was due to oil. Hypothesis is that the CBD is helping to manage the pain from the cramps so I can power through and stretch them out. Usually I just have trouble stretching out the cramp due to the pain! As I write this now, no soreness in the lower back but some in the shoulders and the upper back. Could be the extra bucket I hit after my round but with a friendly tournament coming up in 3 weeks I need the practice! I have 2 more rounds scheduled over the next 2 weeks and will continue to update.

Why not take advantage of every inch, workout, and club modifications to put yourself in a position to make millions and millions of dollars? That’d be like not bringing your Hot Rodded car to the drag strip, but bringing a bone stock civic...

I sliced a brand new ball doing that with the 4 iron I had yet another similar experience when I spec checked my irons. Missed 4 greens with a wedge (3 hit and rolled off), a 4 foot bird on 9. Rallied for a 40 on the back, no doubles, and chip in on the par 3 17th. I wasn't consistent with my plan or swing thought on the front. Still working on it. Take Dead Aim

Add my name to the pile of folks that wishes they started Conner. 0-4 is gonna be tough to come back from but there’s still hope if @B.Boston did it last year. 49. That's a HUGE shift and a very important point; particularly if you are a ball/turf/compress striker. I tend to be a bit more of a sweeper/butch cutter and mat vs. turf effect probably would not be that dramatic? In any case, I'd prefer to have my upcoming full bag fitting done on grass, but don't think that is likely.

  50. I spent a good amount of time talking to a pro shop guy, who is against the one length mentality, he does not believe that it is real golf. It was annoying. But I ended with, "you know what? If I drop strokes and have more fun playing, I'm all for the one lengths, but I guess I won't be able to get them from here" Well Bryson just won the arguably hardest major of the year with his one lengths, so I really need to find a fitter that can efficiently evaluate the one lengths and my swing.
