  1. It's taken 9 years but I now present to you my 5,000th post. It's slow compared to some of the have a chats here, but I got there. Hopefully I can get the next 5,000 before 2029. Thanks to all of you for making this, as far as I'm concerned, the BEST golf forum on the interwebs.

  2. 2020 continues to suck in every way possible. I had to put my big boy down last evening. I had him for 12 years... from 5 weeks old. He saw me through a bad divorce. He was my best buddy. I can't stop crying.

  4. you are like a squirrel on crack my friend. by my count you’re in like 4 different threads discussing equipment changes (driver, putter grip, putter, iron heads, iron shafts) while also trying out a few different instructors to fix some flaws in your swing. that is A LOT of moving parts when trying to hit a ball with a stick is hard enough as it is. i know equipment testing is something a lot of people on here like, and more power to everyone with the time and desire to go through that, but i wonder if getting one thing figured out at a time might help the rest settle in to place? just my two cents man. no harm meant by it at all. like my old man says...that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee. (or maybe a latte at the roastery in Cap Hill)

  5. No. I would have not handled it any different. In my opinion, your friend knew your club and should have told the other two in advance to be prepared to wear something decent. I feel that all golfers should be prepared to dress appropriately while playing golf. It should not matter if it's a private, semi-private or public course. Kudos to you and maybe they learned a lesson in golf etiquette.

  6. I wear golf clothes no matter where I play, never even considered golfing in jeans... Costco has it all for very cheap. And I wear my "good stuff" when I know Im going to a nice club. not repairing ball marks or replacing divots... I learned from an old goat years ago to respect the grass. Because you will probably land in a divot for every one you don't fix. Ive turned into the guy who uses both sand fill jugs each side filling the endless divots. Probably since I play the same track 90% of the time. You would think that other people would see all the repaired areas, and think about fixing their own... but sadly, I find many new ones every day... But oddly, most seem to fix the greens thank goodness...

  7. Working from home now that Michigan is back on modified COVID restrictions. Has the perk of being able to get outside to do protocols at lunchtime. I started the fourth protocol per the recommendation of the SuperSpeed team in this thread. Very happy to see my speeds have stayed steady despite some layoff time. Also, I continue to pass the turf tear test...

  8. I enjoy having a few beers on the course. I feel like it makes me play a bit better because it relaxes me and just kind of puts me in my happy place. Beer for me always just puts me in a good place, theres just a fine line between having a good time and getting wasted though.

  9. Well, I played the front side fairly well. A poorly executed hole led to a double on the front for a 38. Then, an alien entered my body for the backside. I don't know if I lost focus or what, but I struggled big time shooting 43 on the back for an 81.

  10. Exactly my point. Love him or hate him, Tiger is a very big draw for casual golf viewers and since DJ had such a big lead heading into sunday, it almost made it a foregone conclusion he would pull it out unless something catastrophic happened...you know, like scoring a 10 on a hole... Funny enough, I recall watching sports center and even just evening news and all the mentions were "yeah, DJ won, set a record, BUT DID YOU SEE THIS 10 TIGER SHOT ON A SINGLE HOLE!!! Let's watch the reply!"

  11. Let’s face it though. The majority of sports watchers are going to pick football over golf most of the time. I bet If Tiger Woods was about to win jacket 6... those numbers would look a little different.

  12. I usually drink a few on the course. But I tend to keep them in the cooler if I am playing really well. Once things fall apart, they are like a rally monkey.

  18. I don't know them all, but there are actually rules on what can be submitted. All clubs submitted must be available to purchase without any upcharges. There have been manufacturers eliminated from testing because the clubs they submitted where not available for consumers to purchase. MGS does their best to fit the testers to the clubs that have been provided. In most cases the OEMs provide the clubs, but there are instances where MGS purchases clubs for the testing; this generally happens when a high profile OEM doesn't submit clubs. As @Golfspy_CG2 indicated, most people don't get fit; they walk into a shop hit a few clubs and decide which one they want. From talking with golfers on the course most have very little knowledge about clubs. As an example I was asked by someone on my golf team what kind of shaft I had in my driver because he previously had one and he didn't hit it well. I responded that is was the new KBS TD Wood shaft and it was an aftermarket shaft. His response was that he only wanted to know if it was stiff or regular.

  19. We had a total of no one, nada, not another soul on the course yesterday at Coyote Wash. We played 18 holes in 2:26! I did manage to bounce a drive into a fairway mower. He had his earpods in, felt the whack on his thigh, and the ball bounce ahead. That was the only person we saw until hitting the parking lot.

  22. Today is 1 week in the books. Did a little more in depth review on the tracking sheet (in my signature and 1st post). Overall was good definitely had cravings but nothing worse then when i stopped dipping. intiial weight drop was surprising wasn’t expecting a very big initial drop. Maintained after than and have not been under 200 in several years. Was never at any point “starving” and I use that term loosely, also my overall energy seemed to have an increase. I also found pains and swelling to go down as well (knees and hands). going to keep on keeping on and hopefully see some more losses and maybe a waste shrink we shall see. oh and I had a surgery last Thursday so the NA for swing speed is because I won’t be swinging probably until next week some time. Tonight had some chickpea pasta with vegan meatballs, broccoli and marinara. Was actually pretty damn good

  25. Tiger has committed to playing in the PNC Championship on Dec. 19-20 with his son, Charlie. With no Hero World Challenge this year, this will be his last event of 2020. The event is 36-hole scramble featuring 20 players who've either won a major championship or the Players Championship. Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, are the defending champions. Some other notables in the field include Justin Thomas and his father, Matt Kuchar and his son, Gary Player and his grandson, Annika Sorenstam and her father, and many others. 26. So I played today, and overall I had a tough round largely for lack of any short game touch around the greens...normally my strong suit. Not going to get down on myself for an 82 when I haven’t had any practice or rounds to speak of for a while. What I did get out of my round was motivation and affirmation...I’m getting longer. I hit 4 drives over 300 yards today after not touching that number all season! No, I have no pretty LM pics, spin numbers, or any sexy data to analyze. I can only tell you that on course I was hitting less club into several holes, and based on my GPS app I had quite a few bombs. I don’t know if it’s the weight training, increase mass, SuperSpeed, PlaneMate, or all of the above. Nor do I care...I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing! I still have plans to get on a launch monitor mid-December...can’t wait!

  29. Say what you want about Wilson Staff. As a 70 year old golfer who has played the game for 62 years, I proudly play the D-7 irons along with the “Professional” ball and occasionally the Triton driver. This equipment is keeping me in line as I age. I like Wilson Staff! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  30. I went to the club today to primarily work on short game shots. Nevertheless, I hit the range for about 20 minutes and played around trying to work the ball with the TSi2. I hit driver in groups of three shots: one straight, one draw and one fade. I was pretty impressed with the workability of the driver. It is much easier to draw than my Fusion. I played a slice for eons, and I now have a hard time trying to hit a fade on command. I thinks it's something mental--my subconscious won't let me go back to swinging the way I worked so hard to change. Same with the TSi2. Still, I found the TSi pretty easy to curve (draw) when I wanted to, and to hit straight most of the time. I'll do a bit more structured test later on working the ball. But at first blush, it worked well.

  31. Spent some time w TSI2 driver this week. With ranges Mats Only and a unusual amount of “Seasonal Residents” making it a bit difficult. Played Tuesday & Wednesday and didn’t play for score but getting to know the Driver. I’m not having the phenomenal results some Testers are getting. I kept thinking distance was short but actually same as G410 maybe slightly longer. I’m not getting the height (carry) I like but run out is very long. Not a good trade off but it’s still early in the Honeymoon and playing again tomorrow morning and a range north of me is threatening to open up using grass Monday. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  34. Fun exercise. I'll jump in with a few ideas. 1) Branding - better engagement on social media and on the forums. Since Corey left, their Twitter feed is now mostly posting sale or product announcements without a lot of actual engagement. They also seem to tweet on average every 3-4 days, save for recently due to new product announcements. Facebook, they post a lot but don't respond to much from what I've seen. Get someone (or two someones) on the forums to discuss products, updates, and answer questions. Don't recall seeing a W/S product rep around in a number of years. Additionally, a dedicated W/S website separate from their main corporate site that has all of their lines underneath it. 2) Distribution - product needs to be on the shelves. Period. Especially in the big box stores where the bulk of golf purchases are made. Too many people talk about how they'd like to try them out, but can't find them. I have to drive 45 mins either towards Boston or down into RI to get my hands on W/S clubs. 3) Messaging - I like when they have Frank Simonutti talking about their golf balls and why they designed them. The Duo has a lot of fans, so more info about those, or the Raw balls, and specifically why they work well, will go a long way towards awareness. Likewise, they have a huge history - contrasting that with their recent innovations and really playing the two of them off of each other could work well, if done right. 4) Use what you've been given - Rick Shiels, for one, talks about how much he loves Wilson irons. So get influencers like that to really work with you. Likewise with the accolades from MGS; aside from a few tweets I don't think I've seen them really use the feedback and accolades from actual golfers in their marketing. I know I react more to what a 15 hdcp says rather than what a pro says about golf gear. Same with their internal staff - Callaway does a great job with putting their design team and internal staff out there to talk about product development, who's using what, why they did certain things, etc. Whether it's podcasts, videos, interviews, etc they're always out there. The job Harry did with Callaway was amazing - I'm not saying Wilson should replicate it, but it shows that brands can absolutely be brought to the forefront over the course of a few years. Most importantly, there just needs to be some consistency across the board. You can't do a big push like they did with DvD then go relatively silent. They had the issues with the sole plate and it seems like that seemed to take the wind out of them across the board. Just my personal opinion and observation.

  37. The idea of this is particularly fascinating, and when the "Titleist Natural" or whatever comes out, people will be tripping over themselves to get it. Kirkland Signature Unpainted Balls? Suburban Mayhem. Wilson is solid. I will have to give these a try, and it seems like something potentially overlooked. Ball technology now is different from an era where finishing might have been more important in the overall process, so it stands to reason the more pronounced dimples and lack of paint pooling could make a difference.

  38. Pulled the trigger on a Down Under Board. The new "pro" model that's adjustable and can accommodate flared feet. It's normally something I'd DIY, but I want it now. Too lazy to make a trip to Home Depot... I really struggle with proper lower body rotation in my swing. Always searching for something that provides the right feelings to make my practice time more valuable.

  41. it’s amazing how fast things change when you remove the s*** from your diet. it’s usually the subtle changes first, followed by the more obvious ones. firsts it’s the energy, mood, skin, your pants fitting a little better...then after a few weeks you're down a few pounds and look visibly better.

  44. this is very much me. The darkness at 4 sucks and I definitly get the end of golf season depression. This past week has been different, darkness still sucks but I have not been “groggy” or just all in all tired. Even though my waste has not changed and no drastic weight loss, pants feel better and my “gut” is just better.

  47. I did not do it as much this year but I do enjoy it and they needed it! My wife always asks how I can just sit there for an hour and do it lol....because it’s golf.... Oh they’re about to be very happy! So I got the SM7s from @B.Boston same style grip MCC4 but I have not regrouped yet they are all only a year of use so far. When I regrip I’ll match them. yea we just decided to not go to my parents. Wife is in the school and my son goes beteeen houses and I am not going a 2 week time period of not seeing him if we tested positive because we did a meal. Couple of family members not direct will be going so is what it is. Sounds like a vaccine is almost ready...I won’t be getting it but everyone else can lol

  50. ... That PGA Pro would certainly be an exception. He hit the ball nice and high without ballooning. His consistent trajectory was awe inspiring and he never worked the ball with one exception when he was blocked by a tree. You are under the watchful eye of a swing coach and I doubt he would move you into something like T100's if he did not think it was best for your game. ... You may or not be shocked by how poorly golfers strike the ball for a myriad of reasons but almost always a swing flaw or multiple swing flaws. Golf is also one of the very few games someone with little to no athletic ability can play with some success. I played Travel Team tennis for several years before finding golf. If you are not athletic enough to get to the ball or get it over the net and in play, it is silly to play the game and of course you would be unable to play with someone else. After getting really good at the game, I had a hard time finding playing partners. The great thing about golf is a + index can play with a 20 index and have a great time. Even though the 20 index might miss almost every fairway, take 4 or 5 shots to get to the green and 3 putt once they are there. As long as they keep pace, they can enjoy playing golf with anyone or all b by themselves. ... But I have to admit I marvel at the fortitude of those with little natural ability that play golf that rarely if ever hit a solid shot and they have my admiration. I played with a guy in bib overalls in Phoenix several years ago and he never hit a real golf shot. On 18 I hit my DI off the tee about 225 leaving me 185 uphill to a front pin tucked just over a lake. WTF I was on vacation and sitting on even par so I went right at it needing a very solid 5 iron. On of my best shots of the day, landing 3 feet from the pin leaving me with a birdie and a 71. He hit driver off the tee about 175, took 2 more shots to get past my drive and after my 5 iron he said with a heavy southern drawl "I aint never gonna hit a shot like that and really enjoyed being up close to see all yer shots today. But dayum I love playin this here game and I'm gonna get better and have a ton of fun doing it". Gotta love this game.
