  3. Hard to believe I was able to play a round on December 5th in RI, but we had a great day at Pawtucket Country Club; long and straight was the play today. Wind picked up and there were some *long* approaches into a number of par 4's. Was ecstatic to be able to play and the course was in great shape!

  4. Thanks for the encouragement. I actually have a new addiction. I just hit 50 out in the dark, just the porch light on... the road lights give just enough so I can see the ball flight. Now I can practice 24/7.

  5. ... Here is a primer from someone that has lived through it. Just listen to the music of the 70's and it is easy to see there was always a divide in this country. Illustrated by 10 Years After's "Tax the rich, feed the poor, til there are, no rich no more. I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do." The 70's were all about making the world a better place, peace and love. Our hippie hearts were in the right place but we were also young and naive. The 80's came along and the pendulum swung from the 70's to the I'm Gonna Get Mine era. Deregulation spelled the beginning of the end

  6. ... I grew up watching Andy of Mayberry and Leave It To Beaver kind of shows. Shows like The Office might be entertaining but as you said, being snarky and not polite or kind has become the norm. He!! Eddie Haskel was one of the most loathed characters on TV but he is pretty tame compared to todays TV world.

  7. ... It was my first forum of any kind. As someone with an open mind that also enjoys irony and satire, I though the forum was moderated too tightly and didn't allow individual expression. What I later learned was there are trolls, both intentional and unintentional that will bring everyone down around them. Once the original owner/moderator bowed out and let a more lax atmosphere become the standard, I realized the inmates were running the asylum. It is sad that people being kind to each other, regardless of opinions, is something that has to be kept tightly controlled because there are too ma

  8. Forums are privately owned and can, for the most part, do what they want. If a forum chooses to delete specific content, it's their right to do so, just as it's also their right to allow certain topics to continue. We don't have to like or agree with it, because frankly, posters have no say. All we can do is move on to other forums and be done with it, as many of us have with other golf-related forums on the web after seeing the actions the owners and mods took. Re: Usenet - man, was that place an absolute dumpster fire. I was heavily involved in Usenet in the late 90's/early 2000's and b

  9. ... Just mind boggling to me and why social media has lost it's way. If you look at Covid as a medical issue, the facts are crystal clear. If you want to engage in Covid as a political issue, it is complete chaos.

  10. I am just about done over there period. Heavy handed moderating at it again. One of the Mods I guess did not have anything else to do went into the Club House Grille Section and done some Covid related deletes. Also issued a warning about covid related posts. I know for a fact nothing inflammatory was said. Censorship on there and on Facebook

  11. To me, for the most part internet forums, Social Media, etc. aren't real. What I mean by that is, most people will say things and espouse ideas or opinions that they simply wouldn't do in a face to face conversation. Why? No consequences, for the most part. Also, there's a large degree of anonymity involved as well. When people think no one knows who they are, and there's no real life consequences, they say and do dumb things. The internet has become the 21st century version of "kicking the dog". Instead of that person who smiles at work all day and opens doors for people then goes home

  12. ... I applaud you for taking the risk of moving to an iron the might reward you with more accuracy and control but also might be more than you can handle. You never know until you try. Unless you need max forgiveness, and some do, finding the sweet spot for your skill means moving out of your comfort zone. That can mean trying something more forgiving or trying something more demanding. Sounds like you are zeroing in on what will be the best irons for your swing/game.

  13. ... You and I watched another forum implode after allowing politics to filter into the forum. The problem with politics is those on the far edges that are so ignorant, have no idea they are waaaaaay on one side or the other and will rant, abuse and denigrate anyone that is not in lock step with their opinion. Sadly quite a few there were in lock step and it destroyed what was once a similar forum to MGS. As Silver and Black said, it is always good to hear others opinions especially those different than your own if presented respectfully, something almost impossible in todays divided country st

  16. ... I was telling my 93 yr old Mom about the coyote and she reminded me of a robin that fell out of it's nest and I nursed him back to health. I built a nest on the back porch but he preferred my head LOL. He would fly out of the nest into my head and dig in my hair and I would walk around the house with him on my head. After about 2 weeks he flew away. I had completely forgotten about him until my Mom sent me the picture:

  29. none of the above. i avoid short-term rentals like the plague for a bunch of reasons. 1. you’re gonna have to use a management company which will eat into your margins pretty heavily 2. people who rent short term vacation properties don’t give two craps about your property. they treat it like a flop house and clean up after themselves just well enough to get their security deposit back. for reference - i’m a landlord in my day job. i own commercial real estate in New York, and a few residential properties in Florida. i’ve tried short term a few times and i’ve regretted it eac

  33. if you wanna see a topic degenerate and spin off into the ether...go find the thread about Justin Thomas saying Tiger’s son trash talks him on the course. absolutely wild.

  34. From my perspective, I can't hold that against them. Some topics almost certainly generate topic degeneration, like politics, and unfortunately COVID. Even if the discussions are currently civil, they will inevitably draw the sorts of posts and people who turn it into a dumpster fire. It's unavoidable, sadly. It's killed a lot of forums and Usenet groups.

  45. My wife and I played Summerfield Crossing in Riverview, Fl. today. A bit pricey for what it was ($89. including tax). Overall the course was ok, fairly narrow, lots of trees and LOTS of water. Didn't see any alligators - I've become very good at spotting them[emoji12]. Lost 4 balls on the front and 1 on the back. Fortunately my wife had just reloaded her bag so I could borrow some. Even though I lost 5 balls, I still ended up with an 89 and she carded a 97.

  46. .., I will be making the switch to a Mizuno T-20 58* from my Vokey SM8 58*. I love Vokeys but the sole on the T-20 performed better for me from the sand and tight lies, which I will be facing in Phoenix. Gotta say when the fitter handed me a Mizuno wedge I just was not interested but it was a fitting I paid for so I tried it and glad I did. No need to change my 52* since my Vokey was as good as any of the wedges I hit but the Mizuno 58* was a clear winner for me. It really is kinda amazing that the sole can make that much difference coming out of the sand, but it performed much better than any

If you were to post at WRX, asking for advice, it would be reasonable to expect a flurry of comments that range across disbelief, snarky comments, and outright accusations of lying. Happens every time someone with clubhead speed chimes in. Going on right now, or it did, in the last few days, in the "anyone not use a fairway wood thread." The expectation is what's reasonable. The responses themselves, not so much. It's not really just a WRX thing, I've seen it on just about every go
