Put in an offer on a house yesterday which was accepted today. Barring any discoveries during inspection I'm going to be a homeowner for the 2nd time, however with a much, much larger mortgage this time around. Nervous, scared, excited, anxious -- so many questions and things to consider. One thing for sure, I am going to have to stop club-hoing and be more budget conscious which scares me more than anything.

  2. Once again, let's not speculate on the cause. This isn't about protecting Tiger. It's because we don't know; right now, we can't know, so by definition, we'll be arguing with absolutely no ability to resolve the argument. It's a recipe for strife without resolution on the Forum. There are plenty of places to post your speculations; this won't be one of them.

  3. On Get Up this morning, Wojo, had spoken to a couple orthopedic surgeons who read the statement from the Chief Medical Officer on Tigers injuries. The compared it to not unlike Alex Smith's injury in the way that infection from the bones that broke the skin were among the major concerns. We don't know if the actual injuries and surgeries are similar, but if Alex Smith can come back and have Aaron Donald jump on his back for a piggy back ride and go on to play reasonably well. Maybe Tiger will make it all the way back. But that appears a long way off and certainly not the top priority right now.

    Happy thread

I've made the decision with my wife that I'll be joining the local semi-private golf club which is 5 minutes from our house. Slope is 140 and 141 from the member tee and the tips., maxing at at 7k yards Last year was a terror making tee times each week, but also finding a quality course to play without dealing with too many yahoos and 5 hour rounds. Looking forward to playing a fantastic course week in and week out, allowing my golf game to grow at a wonderful facility.

  12. Distracted driving, unfamiliarity with the rental car he was driving, a mechanical failure with the car, etc etc. There are plenty of other explanations for the accident that don't involve alcohol or drug use. It's easy to point to the prescription drugs given his issue with them in the past and that he was coming off back surgery but with the sheriff's department coming out and saying there was no indication of impairment, I think it's safe to rule that out. More information will come out as the incident is investigated. It's all speculation now and the important thing is Tiger's recovery and that no one else was injured. How'd you play?

First round in 2.5 weeks; haven't touched a club during that time. Our course opened today after our 1.5 weeks of snow and cold weather. No snow on the course but there was lots of casual water. Here's my approach to the par 5#18 with casual water on the fairway. I wasn't in that one; I was in another one. The temp was 46º with wind still blowing 20-30 mph. I started off well even though I didn't hit the best of shots on any of the first 4 holes... even par. Then on #5 the wheels came off. I ended up shooting +8 on each nine for a smooth 88. The best thing I can say about the round was my short game still works; I have two no-putt pars. The worst thing I can say is that I "hit for the cycle"... along with my pars, I had bogey, double, triple, and quad. What a day!!!

  17. I don't know if there was a football fan anywhere regardless of favorite team, that wasn't rooting for Alex Smith to have a successful comeback. He truly is one of the classiest guys in the league and I was so happy for him to be able to get back on the field. Let's hope Tiger has the same sort of success. I saw that on Twitter earlier. Just a tremendous amount of good information. He seems to be thinking positively that Tiger can make it back. Seems like more depends on the ankle than the leg.

Got to sneak out for 9 today at lunch thanks to a long lunch a some appointment cancellations. Played pretty well, probably shot 5 over but I didn’t keep score. Had 2 birdies and nothing worse than bogey. Took full advantage of the lift clean in place rule, so had a lot of good lies on my approach shots. Probably hit my 3 wood as good as I’ve even hit it today! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  25. Kirke and I got out to the garage this afternoon to hit balls for the first time in months. The garage isn't heated, so the deep subzero temperatures make SkyTrak virtually impossible in certain weeks and unpleasant in most of the rest. But today, we were up in the mid-to-upper 30s, which honestly felt warm since it represented a 70 degree increase in the past couple of weeks. Anyway, Kirke is definitely longer than he was last year: If you compare this to previous swings in this thread, you can see the influence of Kirke's SuperSpeed work this winter. The biggest tell is that he goes much further around on his backswing. Not worried about that: he'll figure out quickly whether it works for him on the course. Kirke is pretty quick to determine what helps and what hurts his scoring, and he listens to that far more than he'd listen to me telling him to shorten it up. I'm amazed, watching slo mo of his swing, what he does. In transition, it looks for all the world like he's about to pitch the shaft up really steep in the classic hacker move. But somehow, after it goes up, it shallows down and around him. He is so open at impact! https://www.instagram.com/p/CLpyKJ9DDzB/

  29. I too read the description of the injury and surgery and thought immediately of Alex Smith. Smith required something like 18 months to be cleared to practice football, but his injury was significantly delayed by infection in his leg. I heard a doctor on some radio show this morning (it might have been Breed's show on Sirius) who said that although infection is a significant concern in injuries like this, it still occurs relatively rarely. So I will remain guardedly hopeful that Tiger doesn't experience this type of complication. Even without any complications, between the leg AND the injuries to foot and ankle, it will be a long difficult recovery. At this stage, my hope is that he can one day walk fairly normally. Maybe in 6 months or so I'll start to hope for his return to golf.

  30. I have a Driver and Fairway from Sunfish Sales. Good quality for the price. I also have a Stitch putter cover that I got off eBay. I wanted to mix and match styles so I went with a wool fairway cover. My hybrid head cover is still the stock Cobra one... that might have to get updated soon! And I like that my putter cover is different than the rest from a color perspective I just love that lucky clover on my flat stick I am Irish after all!

  31. I've been working on the same thing this winter. Not only clearing the lead side better but also clearing a little earlier. I wouldn't say my upper body was ahead of my hips / legs but my hips needed to pivot a little earlier and a little more than they were. I am guessing its age and less flexibility that is creeping into my swing. Included with swing work are some strength & flexibility exercises this winter to try to push back a little on the dreaded time machine.

    Edison Wedges

Well I made to the range today and horrified to find our short game area totally torn up. :( I have to tread lightly because they take really good care of me there but the full paying membership is livid and I don’t blame them. We think they’re using the sod out on the course to fill in spots that reman about bare on a couple of troublesome fairways. They made a mistake trying to resod it with a different turf 3 summers ago. The turf on the back range is much hardier and stands up to water far better. Regardless there will be heck to pay at the next board meeting. What that means for this review is that I only hit full shots. I will say that the Edison 53 did not fare well either as a gap filler between my Wilson GW and the 59 nor v. the SCOR that it’s looking to replace. While I didn’t measure it didn’t seem to launch lower (as advertised) than the SCOR. Of course that could be mitigated by a change of shafts but this is the issue with not being live fit - The shaft just seems too light and the head too big for my liking. I need to get to a trap to truly test the 59 but again I think I’d prefer a heavier shaft Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  40. Spent some time with my swing coach. Worked on small tweaks to my setup and getting the club a bit more upward in my backswing. Also worked on clearing my lead hip and maintaining better tilt at impact. I've been struggling with rotation and hitting weak fades lately. I have a tendency to start with my hips but not clearing them as much as he'd like to see and not fully getting to my left side as a result. So, these are the things I'm working on.

  44. I just finished reading the MGS article on custom headcovers. They didn’t mention the company that I purchased my headcovers from, Rose & Fire. That got me thinking that there must be a lot of small companies doing some really cool things with headcovers. I thought it would be cool to see the various offerings available in this area. So here are the headcovers in my bag. All from Rose & Fire. I have a couple of leather ones and a couple of cordura ones. I’m a native Californian and a veteran. That’s what influenced my choices.

  45. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I started playing in 1996 at the dawn of the Tiger era. Tiger was a big reason I started playing golf. I haven't kept a USGA handicap in a long time. My unofficial handicap is 10.2. What do you love about golf? I have moved a lot and usually go out to the course as a single. I love that golf gives me the opportunity to meet new people all the time. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I was listening to a podcast that mentioned MyGolfSpy product reviews and decided to check it out. I don't know any other spies, but would love to meet some spies out on the course. Where are you from? What is your home course? I recently moved back to the Greater Boston area and am in Wrentham for the time being. Have played Maplegate a bunch since I've been back. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The worst is the short season. The best are the beautiful natural settings of the courses in MA. What do you do for a living? I'm a patent lawyer. How’d you pick your user name? I was born in Argentina and "el pibe de oro" was a nickname for the great Argentine soccer player, Maradona, who died last year.

  46. A few decades ago I didn't worry about the state of my game coming out of Winter.....distances would be there, feel would be there, my muscle memory was there with very few early spring warm up rounds. Now I am doing the winter work outs just to try to tread water in terms of my golf swing....Getting harder each year....my muscle memory is probably worse than my real memory (and that ain't good)!

  47. I swap out 3h, 3w, 5w, 7w based upon the course I'm going to be playing and tee box length. Also how many non-driver tee shots will be needed and the distance i need to hit those tee shots. I also consider how accurate those tee shots need to be (i.e. how wide the fairways are). If there are a lot of trees on the fairway fringes, I'll have a 3 crossover to hit those wayward drives back into playable locations. I do play many different courses so I change almost every round. I can see how those who play the same course every round would keep the same top end. And being a club-ho like most here, I have multiple in each of my optional clubs. I also change out iron sets for one with higher flighted irons if playing a lot of elevated greens with trouble surrounding the greens. Sent from my SM-G950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
