  1. Got a heck of a deal on a Maltby graphite shaft extractor on eBay, couldn’t pass it up. Club tinkering will be in full force now.

  3. I don't have a lot of different swing thoughts in general, but on the course I'd say I do things in order. I'll make some kind of rehearsal, a short practice swing, a slow-motion swing, an exaggerated drill, but something with a specific internal focus. But when I get to the ball, its all external focus, thoughts about the target, or visualization of the shot I want to hit.

    How'd you play?

Got out and played Sunday afternoon, I seem to hit the ball much better Then the last couple of rooms and only missed two fairways all day. I had a really good ball striking day struggled around the greens 44-42 = 86 Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

  5. As you probably can guess by the pictures, my bag has basically gone unchanged for the last 15+ years. This isn’t one of those old school WITB posts where someone is just getting back into the game, so their clubs are ancient. I just really (really) like this setup and have struggled to find any reason to replace it. That being said, I am sure I am well beyond the point of wearing every club in this bag out and am way overdue for a proper full bag fitting. Enjoy! Driver – Cleveland HiBore XL Tour 10.5* with Aldila VS Proto 70S, tipped 1” When I say “if it aint broke”, I mean it… the only reason I ever put this driver in the bag is because the face on my Titleist 983K finally cracked back in 2006 (God I loved that club) and that forced me to get fit into something new. I know that is ancient in terms of driver technology, but this driver still seems to fit me very well and I trust it to do exactly want I want, so it’s hard to want to change it (this is basically a theme throughout my entire bag and golf career). It sits slightly open, but I can still comfortably draw it and my launch conditions seem essentially right at what I’d be looking for in a new driver. Fairway woods – 15* and 19* Titleist 980f with TT S300s Other than my putter (from around 2001), I have been playing my fairway woods the longest. I have had these 980fs with S300s in the bag since 2003. I have tried countless times over the years to replace them when my buddies tease me about playing steel shafted old school fairway woods, but I have never found fairways woods I can hit as consistently and control as well as these (plus, they go plenty far and I like how they fit in my yardage gapping). When I have tried to replace them over the years, nearly every modern fairway wood I have tried feels extremely light (and the heads look huge to me) and I struggle to hit them high and to shape them, particularly off the deck. Irons – Mizuno MX-23 (3-4) and MP-32 (5-PW) with Rifle 6.0s, bent 1* flat I have had these in the bag since around 2005. They feel amazing and do exactly what I want them to do, but they are definitely wearing out after so many years of playing and TONS of practicing off of mats in the MN winters. Wedges – Mizuno T4 54* and 60*, bent 1* flat These are the newest clubs in my bag, but they are completely beat up and absolutely need to be replaced. I put these in the bag around 2014 and the grooves are beyond worn at this point. Just waiting for the snow to go away so I can do some outdoor testing on grass and find some new wedges. Putter – Studio Design 1.5, 34” with Ping blackout I have played around with other putters over the years, but always come back to my gamer. It is from 2001 and has been refinished once before (I wipe it with a silicone cloth anytime it gets wet and occasionally otherwise to try and keep it from rusting up). I have pretty much always used a ping blackout for the grip. The hosel is bent slightly flatter than stock and I have a small amount of hot melt in it, so the club is a little heavier too – this club basically swings itself and it feels incredible.

  6. Yeah, the delivery companies are finally back on the road and SOME are catching up. Zero hope for USPS progress on a few of my orders still on their way to customers, but thats what I get for using them. Those balls should last me through July, but DO NOT challenge me....I can lose them MUCH faster..... These clubs are all on their way to local juniors in need (they don't know it yet) as my annual donation to the local programs, but shipment #3 has my personal demo's in it. Have to wait till then for any on course feedback.

  8. Count me in the external group. Once I’m on the course I try to not think too much about swing thoughts and just use the swing I have that day. that being said if I need a certain shot shape I will rehearse it but still think more of what I want the ball to do rather than a certain arm or body position. I play my best when I keep my thoughts simple and a calm demeanor.

  9. Yeah, im going to give external thoughts a try. I don't think my internal swing thoughts ever have any benefit whatsoever on the course. Some of the best series of shots that I have hit on a course was while I was on a conference call, and was trying to pay attention to the call in case someone asked me a question.

  10. For me, swing thoughts during a round are a no-no; with the exception of when I’m trying to hit an exaggerated shot( hook/slice around a tree, punch or flop) It’s taken me awhile to not be results oriented while playing golf: if I executed what I intended, I accept the outcome and move on. When I focus on any one outcome, good or bad, my game starts to unravel. I use “the decision box” on course; I evaluate my lie, choose my shot and select my club in the “think” section, practice my swing and visualize the shot I want in the “feel” section, and then I set up to the ball and swing - no thoughts, I just go before tension sets in. 15. This! It's how I ended up on MGS. I'd been researching info on irons and how pro and pro/amateurs liked them. Video reviews of players hitting 7i's 200 yards were awesome but not my reality. I stumbled on one of our "Official Testing Reviews" being done by a more representative mix of players, and immediately thought, how awesome. I'd never heard of MGS prior to that. The type questions and comments were so much more meaningful. Our mods/staff do a great job selecting testers for each product and one can usually find themselves and their game/skillset represented. Add to that the Hit Squad Testers, who also represent and mix of capability, and one would be hard pressed to find a more candid source of information that moves past the hype.

  17. Lots of great gear already identified and that I would love the opportunity to review. I may have missed it but the rumored PING i59 is of particular interest to me. There is much speculation about its design and whether it's simply a return to the iBlade series or ??? PXG's 0211 Driver has my eye and interest. I had an opportunity to hit it a few times last week (golfing friend just bought one) and, while his x-stiff shaft isn't for me, still had nice flight and loved the sound. Cobra's RADSPEED series, Taylormade's SIM series, and Callaway's Epic series are also of interest. I'm also interested in the fairway wood offerings from those listed above along with PING's, Titleist, and Tour Edge. With regards to iron sets, I'm particularly interested to see what stock and upgrade composite shaft options are being offered. Since a mallet style putter was identified as my best fit (Evnroll ER5), I'd love to test new offerings in this category; Taylormade Spider X/EX and FCG, Titleist Scotty Cameron Phantom X and Select Special, and Odyssey Toulon. And, of course, I'd love to review a Skytrak or GC2 home hitting studio .

    Happy thread

So I got lucky yesterday. Sunday I was washing my car and in northeast Ohio are round departments use a lot of salt and brine for the roads. It’s fair to say we get a buildup of road grime on our cars. Needless to say I was washing to see how much I could expunge with a power washer and microfiber rag knowing in a month or so I will need to claybar and wax. I was going about my rear bumper when I noticed their was some water between my clear coat and paint. Go figure I out a little pressure on it and the clear coat chipped. Now I’m steaming a little, try to do a good deed and clean your car and it bites you in the butt. Monday morning I call the body shop who has done some work for me in the past taking out a dent and scratch because of others who don’t like to pay attention or value their personal belongings. The manager comes out and starts to give me a quote but he tries telling me in the past someone had repainted my bumper and the clear coat needs to be stripped so I’m starting to see major solar signs. He even goes as far to say that it might be cheaper to get a new bumper and paint it. Needless to say I remind him they took out a few scratches from the bumper 2 years ago. Between the bunper and rear quarter panel their is a spot where it must have rubbed over time from some friction or a stone hit it and took the paint off right down to the plastic, likely allowing the clear coat to be exposed over time allowing moisture in. The wheels start turning in the managers head, mask or no mask this look was priceless. This body shop you pay a little extra but everything is full warranty unless you have an accident or personal fault for failure. Needless to say it was no fault of mine and my car bumper will be fixed at no cost, new clear plastic scratch protector at my trunk and all!

  19. Here is is a suggestion which is WAAAAYYYYY out of he box and would be fun plus open some eyes,,, Members summit their current driver model and specs i.e shaft and grip,,, THEN those chosen are sent a 5 or 10 year old driver, same brand, same shaft same grip,, then test results are revealed,,,,,,,, was their current gamer that much better ? ( I know,,, I've been wanting major OEM's to do this)

  21. No swing thoughts when playing , other than how to play a particular shot. This is especially true for short game shots. If you are thinking about swing thoughts for a pitch shot, then you haven't practiced that shot enough. It should be automatic, and you should trust it. A pitch shot is a feel shot. You can't expect to pull off a feel shot of any kind without a lot of practice. It's extremely difficult to eliminate swing thoughts when you hit a bad shot. You are trying to figure out what you did wrong. Sometimes you just hit a bad shot; pros do it; accept it and move on. Once you start down the path of trying to analyze your swing based on a couple of shots while playing, the round is lost. Go to the range. I struggle with this too. It's probably the main reason I have been sucking lately. I think it's excuse #8. Today, I hit one of my better drives on our #1 handicap hole and had a PW into the green. Usually, I have a 7i or 8i and if the wind is blowing... a hybrid. The shot is over water with bunkers left and right and depending on the angle, a bunker long too. My last thought was the nice shot I made with my PW on the range before I played. I hit a great shot; looked good in the air. It was on the green... barely; still a par.

  25. I typically float between internal and external focuses. I've had really good rounds where I've been working with a simple swing thought, and likewise I've had really good rounds where all I did was focus on a branch or leaf or another tiny target and visualize my shot. I have found that my swing is not consistent enough to always only have external focus. I have years of bad habits/wrong movements that come back in a hurry. One thing I need to do a better job of this year is creating a system like @DaveP043 mentions - a setup routine to get the bullet points out of the way, and then a switch to a more results-oriented focus as I'm readying to hit the ball. Golf Sidekick's thinking vs. play box concept comes to mind here as what I'm trying to accomplish.

  28. Not directly a golf product, but I purchased a GoPro Hero7 Black today. I had a lot of fun cutting together a handful of holes into short videos last summer, but with Arccos requiring my phone to be in my front pocket I lost my nice camera after switching from ShotScope. I also bought a mounting clip for the GoPro so I can attach to to my push cart as a makeshift tripod. The Hero7 can do 1080p at 240fps which should come in handy on the range for evaluating my swing. We also have a few summer vacations planned, and I've been interested in brushing up on my video editing skills so this was a win-win purchase for multiple reasons.

    2021 Goals

I may live to regret this (hope not) but with the season in Nebraska likely to begin in a matter of weeks, I've been inspired to try to identify some goals for the season. "Big Rock" Goals - Lower handicap from current 6 to 3 or better - Break par for 18 holes - Win my Saturday morning "league" championship. (This is unlikely, at my handicap it would take a very low round...usually a 13ish handicap shoots an 80 or something like that and that's all she wrote.) Sub Goals - Drive the par 4 2nd hole at my home course. It's 330 but a bit downhill, and if the tees and the wind are right it's possible for me...I've been hole high before but right. Same goal for the 310 yard par 4 17th...it's a dogleg but requires a pretty high ball flight to carry a large tree. - 25 putts or less in a round I know the big rock goals are lofty, but I don't see the point in setting goals that aren't really aspirational. Anyone else care to share?

  31. Sometimes it is the little things. I have been struggling with my irons recently - toe strikes and pulls. As I was wrapping up most wanted testing yesterday Phillip asked if I always play my ball that far forward. We moved it back a bit and while the shots were a little bit toward the toe it was much better and ball flight was a nice right to left draw. Only concern is that it really moved my path a bit too far in to out. My instructor wanted it to be 2-3 but I was a bit over 4. Going back tomorrow to do a bit more practice and see how things shake out. Also need to get to a Range to film the swing to get my instructors thoughts.

  33. I didn't play very many rounds in February. I spent the first week cleaning out my dad's apartment, then we had a week and a half of snow. So, I only played the last two weekends... 4 rounds + two 9-hole rounds during the week.

  34. I'm probably at the 'low end' with 12 rounds posted on GHIN for February. Plus 1 or 2 'practice' rounds and a bunch of trips to the driving range. Of course my game doesn't reflect all of that practice or play.

  35. Here is my first pull off the nitrous keg. First impressions: I used Peet's Major Dickason's blend coffee that I let steep for 48 hours in the fridge. I put 2 tsp of Mexican Vanilla in the keg and added the cold brew and 2 nitrous oxide cartridges and let it sit overnight. I've been drinking this blend everyday as a cold brew for the last 2 years so I'm very familiar with the flavor profile. Dispensed with nitrous the flavors appear more pronounced with caramel & vanilla being the dominant notes. The mouthfeel of the coffee is more smooth and velvety and there is a sweetness that the nitrous has imposed on the brew. The head is great to start, but once it settles it doesn't follow the coffee to the bottom of the glass and the microbubbles are not as dense as good commercial nitrous brews. It's my understand that using pure nitrous, instead of nitrous oxide, will provide the more dense microbubbles, but those cartridges are twice the price and require twice as many per batch. As an out of the box, easy to set-up nitrous kit and with a strong first result, I would recommend the Royal Brew unit. I will keep experimenting and update the thread.

If the stocks are being held in an account where you can do transactions (like a Fidelity or Vanguard) you could put in a stop loss order to limit the damage if the price starts crashing. Look at the price now and decide how far down it could drop before your discomfort level sets in and have a standing sell order at that price. The money from that sale should go into a money market under the same account where you could watch the price and buy back into the stock when it drops to a level you are happy with, or buy another stock you like. My discomfort level is about a 12% drop. I check it every couple weeks and raise the order sell price if the stock has kept going up but I generally don't lower it if the stock price has gone down since the last time i checked. edit to add.....I am no expert at stock investing, just self taught and trying to keep from losing it all, so take this for the 2 cents it's worth.

  40. For a lot of last season I used a friends old Hero... it was nice, but lacking in the MP. I had picked up a Hero 7 black and it was great for on course and practice stuff. There was a problem with the one I had within the return window so I sent it back and waited to see what the new one was like.... I’ve been eyeing a 7 again. I think it’s a better package than the 8 and the new one is a bit more than I need. I think you’ll like it a lot. I popped mine into the umbrella holder on a thicker grip style tripod. It was basically perfect with the push cart.
