  1. I had a special announcement planned for my 10,000th post. But of course, i saw a topic earlier and fired off a reply before I thought about it. Then i hit a slight delay on the announcement details. So while the special announcement will still come, it’ll have to wait a couple days. But I think everyone will find it worth the wait. In the meantime, thanks to all the members who made this such a welcoming place when i first joined and who have continued to follow along and chide me on my club adventures It’s been an honor to serve on staff for the past three years. And you all make it a pleasure to do so.

  2. First off wanted to thank everyone on this site. This is my 3,000th post. Not everything is golf related and I have really enjoyed coming to MGS and utilizing it similar to other social medias that I have gotten rid of. It is nice to come to this site every day and BS'ing back and forth with everyone. So thank you, cant wait to see was 2021 brings on the site. Background Now off to my fitting. Little background prior to my first fitting at TrueSpec in 2019 I had never been fitted and bought off the shelf. Prior to the fitting I had won a TS2 in a tournament and am still swinging that today, have swapped shafts around trying to figure out what feels good and what could play well for me. I have also struggled with a steep negative attack angle and a high spin (typically above 3500). Few of the shafts I have gone through: -Orignal HZRDUS smoke 6.0 that came stock -HZRDUS Green 6.5 -Currently HZRDUS Blue TX Arrival at PGASS When I got to PGASS this morning my fitter was Patrick Hohman. Nice guy, pretty knowledgeable and we discussed what I knew about my swing which included the AOA (which going in today I had no idea if any of my swing adjustments have effected that) and my very high spin. Right away he said the TX is to much for me (we discussed my current swing speed, typical flight path etc.) I told him I didnt expect to get over 110SS today being the winter and I really have not swung anything besides my 2 simulator trips in the past 2+ months. With COVID I am not working out and just focusing on staying flexible. We also discussed that I have no brand BIAS and that I wanted to swing everything and anything. My swing overall for today felt pretty damn good. Was not overly fast which I was not expecting to be, contact once I got to the final 2 drivers was extremely consistent (have contact on those which was very pleasing) so I am very confident that whatever my choice is will work great for me peak season when I am usually consistent and stroking. Here was the final lineup of everything I swung (PING G425, SIM2, TSI3, Callway EPIC, Cobra RAD Speed, TSI2 and lastly my gamer) I told him I did not want to know what he was putting in for shafts just what the head was which kept my head clear I think. I do not know what was in each until I got down to the 2 that number wise and feel wise were the best. Here was the final look at the end of the day with over 150 swings (removed the mix and match shafts at the end)...Scary to see the wide dispersion but here it is Swinging First 3 clubs I swung were automatically knocked out. Didn't feel great for me and really didn't like anything about them but the G425 look. Also the numbers were just a no with 0 consistency. -G425, Epic and SIM2 were knocked out right away. We tried multiple shafts and I just did not enjoy them. This left me to the TSI3, TSI2 and RAD Speed The Rad Speed was awesome. Just like last years speedzone. I love the feel, look at address with the matte top and the infinity face. It was great and by all accounts extremely consistent. Had a few off the fairway with dead pulls which is normal for me. I kept my typical baby fade with low spin and great ball speed for what I was swinging at today. The setup was 9* loft set to 8* with a 44.5" MotoreX F1 6X Can we just talk about that spin average!? Next up was the TSI3 and the TSI2. The TSI2 was still too spinney for me and didn't really keep it under 3k so that was a wash. I have swung the TSI3 mutliple times and I love the look and feel. My contact was better (more center where the Cobra a few got high but that's nickel and diming), also a slightly higher spin. This setup was an 8* with the 44.5" HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.5. After we got these dialed in and figured out what was working. We swapped multiple different Tensei, ventus and ACCRA shafts in and out (mostly because I just wanted to swing and wanted to go through everything). But nothing really compared to these 2 setups...whether it was feel or numbers these were the 2 clear winners in both aspects. Decision Time Well I feel like I cannot go wrong with either setup. I still really enjoy the feel of the RDX Blue but with that spin I am not going to get anywhere, I do wish I thought to put my shaft in the TSI3 and see what happened but I forgot but from my discussions with Patrick that probably wouldn't be the case. Cost wise going with the Cobra is probably the right move. I also prefer the look of the cobra at address. So I am leaning towards cobra, I liked both shafts, I did not have a preference and since both are stock shafts in their respective clubs will not matter to me. Both setups will be good as I increase speed in the next few months as the snow melts as well. The experience was great and the data was very reassuring on what I have been working on. More to come as I sell and buy! Again wanted to thank everyone on the site as this is such a great place to come and discuss with everyone!

  3. Great effort, not a lot of filler in those 10,000. Are you going to be giving away all the clubs you've used over the last 3 years? That would mean something for everyone

  4. I've looked at the pad and noticed it should be easy to replace by pushing down on the plastic casing and pulling up on the pad. I haven't seen anything that @GolfSpy MPR did about replacing. Also, @B.Boston asked about wear and I thought I'd get a photo of what mine looks like now. Keep in mind, this is probably between 400-600 shots, I've got a problem and am obsessed with grooving ball first contact. I think it's still got a lot of life left in it before needing to be replaced.

  5. I'm out of this one...I have both already . But seriously, I would probably do a membership somewhere different. Since having a simulator is great and can really help your game without going anywhere. You can see your ball flight, face angles swing speeds and such. Once you start playing well and consistently it's not as much fun. For me it was a novelty that sort of wears off. I find it much better being out on a course and experiencing nature, golf and it's challenges, different lies and such. You can't get that on a simulator. I have Augusta National as one of my courses and I shot a 65 my third time playing that course. Am I going to do that in real life? We all know the answer to that. So I can walk down a flight of steps and play on the simulator or I can drive 2 miles without a tee time and play. I always choose real golf. The exceptions are hard rain and temperatures below 40 degrees.

I forgot how to golf... grabbed my 58° yesterday to get a few 25-75 yard shots in. It was like trying to do calculus... I don’t know how to do calculus. Going to be an interesting year if this is how it goes, my handicap might take off like Maverick off an aircraft carrier...

    How'd you play?

... Had a great round today carding a 79. 35 mph winds with gusts to 45. It's one thing to play in those winds in Chicago with soft fairways and quite another on hard fast desert fairways. Straight downwind was awesome and I hit a 322yd drive but my pard hit it 376 yds from the back tees! Into the wind wasn't too bad but the side wind shots were just insane. Started a 7 iron 30 yds left on a par 3 and ended up just over the green and pin hit. On a 110 yd par 3 that is a mushroom with a little flat spot and all sides sloping off and into the rough, I started a 9 iron 10 yds left of the pin with a mid trajectory hoping it would blow to the pin, but as it started coming down it called the flight tower for a landing on the other side of the green! I have never seen such a short shot move so much on the descent. My pard pushed his a little starting center of the green from 130 and ended up on the other side of the next tee box a good 75 yds from the green. Once the ball starts moving hard and hits the firm ground it just doesn't stop. On another short par 4 I hit a 7 iron knockdown and one of those 45mph gusts hit right after contact and my ball landed on the back of the green but took off like a rocket over the hill on the other side, down the slope and into the next fairway. ... I can't complain about the wind because it has been very rare to have anything but sunshine, warm weather and very light winds for the last 3 months. My pard probably shot near 100 but had 3 drives downwind of 376, 365 and 355. Very impressive.

  10. I had changed my address and how I hold the putter, and I had my Edel EAS 2.0 bent more upright about a month ago or so. I was back in MS where I was fit, so I went back through the Edel fitting to see if the putter was still good for me. Well, it was off by quite a bit. Turns out that the head needed to switch, and the line on the top of my putter needed to disappear as well, so we ordered a new Edel EAS 1.0, which is the more square of the two blades, which aims me more left than my previous 2.0, with which I was off high and to the right. The store owner is taking care of me by not charging me at all! Once the new putter comes-in, I will give him the 2.0 to put “on the floor” so he can sell it to recoup his cost on the new one. So, maybe it doesn’t REALLY qualify for this thread! Here’s the look at address. Now envision no lines at all.

  11. Two days in a row of banging drivers, yesterday at a demo day featuring PXG, Callaway, Ping and Taylormade, and again today at the PGASS testing yesterday’s winner against the Cobra Rad XB I ordered a week ago. I ended up canceling the Cobra order and took home a 10.5* Epic Max with Hazardous Smoke i-10 5.5 50g shaft. After using my gift card balance I could have gotten it for nothing out of pocket if I traded my G400 Max, but that club is a security blanket for me, and no way I was going to give it up for $125.

  12. Speaking of that drill, I was able to come home from work today and spend about 45 minutes hitting into the net working on this. When I first did the drill, I had an epiphany: I have been rotating and allowing my sternum to get behind the ball in the backswing. I worked on the thought of keeping the sternum stationary during the swing. I started seeing some good results along with some inconsistent ones. I had a few that looked like fried eggs and actually topped one or two. I made an adjustment and tried my best to take my arms out of the swing and let the body do the work. That's when I started seeing patterns like above more often. I was also seeing better weight shift that way. This is going to be my focus going forward. 2021 is the year that I'm focusing on becoming a better iron player and focus on crisper, cleaner contact.

  15. Heard the secret line before as well. Interesting statement on the CG and wedges being BS when TXG posted a wedge video that talked about the CG location and how it impact flight and spin. Not saying either is right or wrong; just an observation since I can’t prove one way or the other.

  16. I haven't been to the practice area other than the range for quite awhile and it shows when playing. Today I decided to spend an hour or so just on pitches and chips. Pitching green closed!!! Maintenance crews were doing some digging (sprinkler work I guess) by the green, and they didn't want any errant balls while they were working. So, I spent the time practicing chips with my 60º LW and 49º GW on the putting green. We still don't have holes in the putting green, so I used 2 tees about a hole-width apart. I used to only chip with my LW and was reasonably good at it, but I have to practice contact a lot or I lose the feel and mishit a lot of balls. That's what I've been doing on the course lately. No practice; no good shots. @cnosil shamed me into trying less-lofted clubs for chipping and I've been practicing with my GW. I'm better at it than I was several months ago, but a ball can still get away from me every now and then. Overall, I'm probably a little more consistent distance-wise with my GW, but misses with either club are not horrible. At my course I really don't need any less-lofted club for chips. After an hour I started to feel a rhythm to my swing that I haven't had lately on the course. I even managed a few good flop shots. I need to do this more often!!

  17. A little while back I posted my new golf bag. I had bought the OGIO Woode. Well after a couple rounds, I realized it wouldn't work for me so I returned it and swapped it for this.. Had to order it through the in store kiosk.. and while I was placing my order my finger slipped and I accidentally ordered these too... coincidence would have it that the shoes just happened to be my size and I've been thinking about getting a putting mirror to accompany my Puttout.. so it just made too much sense to not cancel the order..

    How'd you play?

Totally stunk it up today. Recent tweaks to my swing thru my swing coach don't seem to be carrying over from the range to the course. Too many swing thoughts, too much self-induced pressure and expectations, out of sync, poor tempo....and to top it off, I wasn't putting up to my normal abilities. Limped in with an 83 that felt much worse. While I did hit some nice shots, I just hit too many stinkers that prevented scoring opportunities. No birdies to counter any of the bad holes (had 2 doubles). Oh well ... tomorrow is another day.

  20. Thanks, getting my lower body to work correctly is going to continue to be a challenge. Rotation is getting better and early extension is less obvious than before, but still needs a lot of work.

  24. Hitting a bunch of personal forum milestones all at once. I first joined the MGS Forum March 1, 2016, so I'm quickly approaching 5 years as a member. Like many, I'm pretty sure I initially joined for a "contest" (not realizing that review opportunities aren't contests). After lurking for almost a year and a half, my first "real" post was about my basement putting green. It's exactly the sort of thing this Forum exists for: I had a cool golf thing to talk about and needed to find a community of people who'd actually care. That post was incredibly well-received and encouraged me to get more involved in the Forum. That involvement obviously ended up with my being added as one of the Forum moderators in December 2018 (has it been that long already?). It's been nice to be able to give back a bit to the Forum, to keep it growing while maintaining the sense of community that makes this site special. Ever since the days (before the existence of The Leaderboard) when @STUDque would post compilations of the most liked content and members, I've been a bit obsessive about my like:post ratio. For me, it was an indicator of wanting to add quality to the Forum with my posts. Being a mod has given that a boost: announcing new review opportunities and new testers is always good for a dozen or so free likes . But credit where it's due: although I've just surpassed having a 4.0 like:post ratio, @edingc has passed me by, currently holding a 4.25 ratio (which is currently the highest of anyone with 4,000+ reactions).

  28. I’m 100% going the home simulator route here. 1. There is still currently snow outside... that is not a problem for the home simulator 2. With 3 kids, 2 who are getting into organized sports ages, the available time slots to really enjoy a $3k membership would need to include a lot of other benefits than just rounds of golf. 3. I can play sim golf every dang night if I want to after the kids go to sleep. As much as I’d prefer to be outside playing, for me the home sim setup would be a much better use of the funds.

    How'd you play?

Yesterday’s round was enlightening. We started on the back and I was out of sorts. I played holes 10 through 16 in +7. I knew my perception, particularly regarding alignment, was way off. Starting on 16, I decided to be meticulous in my set up. It worked. I played the last 11 holes in +1. I guess I just needed a reminder that they are called fundamentals for a reason.

    Would you rather?

Absolutely! I play with a few guys that have CC memberships and they do not typically want to stray from their club due to that large investment they've already made. This could be dependent on the access to nice public courses you have in the area. I bought a skytrak at the beginning of the year and really haven't been able to utilize it much due to injury, but looking forward to doing so for years to come. I will say that my initial thought on the investment was low compared to what it will actually be when I add in the need for a more powerful laptop and the game software. Looking at what I will be getting, I think it's worth the extra cost.

  33. One of my buddies I play with only practices chipping and putting, he says it’s the first thing to go and it the most important part of the game... he’s also a plus handicap and lead the NCAA in scoring average in college soooo maybe it’s not a great comparison... but still good on you for doing the mundane stuff. I turn it into a game and it’s more fun... like keeping score. I pick a hole or two to chip to. Make par 18 and play “9” holes every hole is a par 2. Keep a record of your scores and see how it gets better. Makes it way more fun to practice! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  44. Awesome! I was worried since it’s basically a bedazzled ball target that it wouldn’t handle my *steepish* iron swing. If it can handle 400-600 and look like that I think it will be good! getting closer and closer to the buy button. Good thing the snow is melting. It might actually save some grass this year

  45. Working on rotation. Felt like I was exaggerating my hip depth in the backswing and felt super far away from the ball. So far away that I thought I would miss the ball or hit it way off the toe. In the video though, don't think I am actually getting farther from the ball, just not getting closer to the ball in the backswing like I tend to do.
