While Matt was playing his S game, I was playing like a Tour Pro... More specifically, I hit my 3 wood off the tee like Bryson at #4 last weekend, I played out of the sand like Hovland at #9 during the WGC and putted like Sergio from inside 8 feet during the second round of The Player’s. 3. There is no shaft standards so an x in one shaft my feel like a stiff in another - especially if your swing speed is on the border of the traditional stiff/x range i swing around 115 and have xstiff through the bag Ian Fraser at TXG swings around 116mph and plays x stiff in his woods and stiff in his irons There are no absolutes

Got the first round in on Monday with @00sportsman. Warmed up on the range and was striping the ball. On the course however was a completely different person playing. I wasn't expecting much but it was worse than I thought. No A game or B, C or D for that matter, I think it was my S game. We'll see what happens tomorrow and Friday.

    How'd you play?

Got the season opener in last weekend.. temps just into the 50s but winds in the 20s to 30s! But it was really, really (really!) great to be out on an actual course again!! Yeah, had to wear extra layers and winter gloves but I guess I've gotten kinda used to those with practicing in the unfinished garage over the winter. So... if this round was any indication ... this is going to be pretty good golfing season for me! The series of lessons I've been doing are definitely paying off as the full swing is much, much better - making solid contact more often and watching the ball go in the general intended direction more often. Short game was decent, but .. of course .. needs some more work (always) and some sharpening up. Putting, though, was the laggard of the day.... Not only were my stroke and speed just a leeeeetle bit off but I was also having trouble figuring out the right amount of wind break! Sometimes too much, sometimes an extra gust would come along and bye bye ball. Seemed like the hole locations had not been moved in a while, either, as little "volcano" mounds had formed around them and did a really good job at playing defense against all putts that were not the exact right line + speed. Oh well .. it is what it is in this game...

  7. An update: I had my previously scheduled long game fitting with Club Champion. First thing they did upon arrival was apologize profusely for the putter issues. They also cut today's $200 fitting fee in half. To recap: Club Champion butchered my putter They immediately refunded my repair shop price They ordered me a brand new Evnroll ER5B replacement They gave me a $100 discount on a completely separate long game fitting They offered a free putter fitting once the replacement comes in to make sure the loft and lie are set up correctly All in all I'd have to say they completely made up for the butchered putter and I'll have no reservations about going to Club Champion in the future. Now I just have to figure out whether or not I want to spend all this damn money on new clubs!

  11. Second post for the day! After reading his review and talking to @azstu324 I am also returning the Woode and placed an order for a Titleist Hybrid 14 bag. Mine is Grey and Red though. So not a total copycat. I went back and forth over the 5 or 14, but in the end I prefer the extra pocket and overall layout of the 14 and just plain like the color/pattern better.

Normally i buy regular width shoes but last time i bought the under armour shoes i bought wide because my prior golf shoes weren’t comfortable. In normal everyday shoes, i tie them so loose that i just slip them on and off, so i never realized how wide my feet are

    2021 Most Wanted-Driver

So your knowledge is in data analysis which would position you in data interpretation and not the capture of the specific data MGS is trying to capture. Robotic tests are useful in testing some aspects of the club. The MGS test starts to take into consideration how the human element influences the performance of a club. For example attach a club to a robot and it will return the club to basically the same point with basically the same impact conditions. In human testing, the shape and markings, shaft, weight, etc. influence how people actually swing the club and you may have a clubs that performs well on a robot but results in a massive hook for actual humans. As others have said, the most wanted results aren't geared toward people that spend lots of time on golf forums. It is geared toward the 90% that walk into a store and buy clubs off the rack with little fitting. The MGS staff say you should get fit for any club and the most wanted winner may not be the best club for you. Also, if you are against the way MGS captures and analyzes the data I guess you a don't support fitting since it is basically the same process. Talk off the shelf drivers, attempt to get good basic fitting, hit some shots, and analyze the results to see trends across a pool of golfers instead of a single golfer (what a fitting does) Interested in how you would change the capture and analysis of the data to make it more relevant and meaningful. If you were in charge what would you do and why would it be better and achieve the goal of what MGS is doing. This is an honest question, I have documented and communicated how I would change some of the testing, but enjoy hearing others opinions. Just saying it is wrong is really a meaningless and useless post.

  16. As a high handicapper, I look at dispersion from the perspective of balls acceptably in play vs. not. "Acceptably in play" is my own terminology for meaning would it put me in an acceptable place for a second shot that wouldn't have been OB, in the woods, etc. When testing my TSI2 vs my old SIM Max gamer, the difference i found was that I was more likely to miss big right that would lead to OB balls. The SIM Max was probably 5 yards longer, but wasn't worth the risk due to the more likely big right miss that would be OB. I have found the above from my test plays out on the course. SIM Max used to hit OB right occasionally. TSI2 I can still miss right, rarely big OB right ball.

Gotta love’em where they’re at. My father in law never cared for me that much, I was never good enough for his girl. There’s a lot of things I could say about him but I will not do it, even after he’s passed. I never walked a mile in his shoes and never will. Besides, my son in law might be having the same thoughts about me! Need to set a good example

Been sort of, kind of thinking about picking up guitar playing...again. Played quite a bit during college but with graduation, marriage, new job, etc., the Takamine 12 string found a place under the spare bedroom bed and rarely saw daylight. 30 years later, we were so overwhelmed with retirement, selling the house, moving to Montana that, I just opted to sell it, along with lots and lots of stuff (absolutely amazing what 2 people collect). I did keep my Eagles, Doobie Brothers, and a few other songbooks however. Living rural, lessons are not likely too convenient but, with all the on-line stuff, I'm thinking that might be an option. Not sure about a 12 string (hard as hell on the finger pads). To those who play and those beginning (first time or do-over), what recommendations do you have?

  24. Just ordered a demo Alta CB shaft for my G400 3w. Changing the current 65g stiff to regular. My G400 5w has that same shaft in regular and I seem to catch it more centered. Also, the recent fitting had me move from stiff to regular on the driver shaft (working out great) and the recommended 3w shaft was the Diamana Thump 65R... seems all things pointing to flex not helping and likely robbing me of some distance. For $60, it's worth a try.

... So sorry to hear this. After 2 back surgeries in the 90's you may remember last year my disk herniated and the pain was unbearable and thought I would need a 3rd surgery but they gave me the option of Therapy and it was awesome. 3 months of 3 times a week but it worked great. Also gave me some exercises to strengthen my core to hopefully prevent it from happening again. So do your exercises religiously and hopefully you have a 100% recovery!

  26. I’m really down in the dumps right now boys. I posted in here a little while ago about my back going out on me, and how I was looking forward to finally getting back out again on Saturday. After a couple of weeks off, the back felt a lot better last Thursday and Friday but on Saturday morning it was a little stiff, and I had a feeling there might be a problem. i was dying to play though, and hoped it would loosen up once we started. No such luck. It got worse as the day went on, and if it wasn’t a team game I’d have stopped well before we finished. That night I was back to square one, and the last two days have been more of the same, even though I’m back on the damned muscle relaxants again. My daughter is getting married in 6 weeks, and I don’t want to walk her down the aisle hunched over like Quasimodo, so I’m thinking that might be it for me until after the wedding. It looks like I’m going to have to get my golf fix meeting up with the guys after they’re done playing to shoot the breeze, and coming here to cheer you fellas on. Hopefully after all that time off I’ll be good to go, and finally get this season started. Play well men!!!

  27. Decided to take the plunge and ordered "The Strike Plan" from Adam Young golf. My goal for 2021 is to become more consistent with my ball striking ability and I'm hoping this will help. I know Adam's program comes approved by @GolfSpy MPR. Another thing is, it's nice to have a plan for purposeful practice to use in conjunction with the Spornia net, which has already seen some improvements in my game. I've only watched the introduction video and it has me excited for the rest of the program.

  30. Quite an interesting first day on the range with the AutoFlex. A very whip-like feel everywhere but at impact. Such an odd shaft. Not surprisingly, the AutoFlex didn't magically make me drive the ball like Bryson. Even though the shaft is only 1/2" longer than the Rogue White, it took a bit to adjust to the longer length. I tend to struggle with balance and setup, getting too bent from the hips at address. That kind of bent-over setup can cause me to stand up through impact, and it gets worse the longer the club. You'll see me try to get taller at address as the shots go on, and that's something I need to work on if my driver is going to improve. I'm sure setup accounted for some of this today, but I didn't hit the center of the club face much. I heeled a lot of shots, hit a lot of others low in the face and had one or two that almost missed the face altogether. It seemed a bit hard to find a groove with the AutoFlex. But, it was my second range session of the year and tough to tell for sure what was the cause. Numbers-wise, I didn't see much change. Over 19 shots, the AutoFlex was comparable to my Rogue White numbers from Friday (differences highlighted): Ball Speed Club Speed Smash Carry Launch Spin Height (ft) Time 158.8 (-1.4) 111.5 (+2.3) 1.42 (-0.05) 256.5 (-3.5) N/A 2,540 (-100) N/A N/A The numbers are from two different ranges and two different mixes of range balls. The difference in elevations between ranges mess with the Mevo readings for launch, height and time so I've removed them. I'm not sure how much faith to put in these numbers this early. The low-faced hits has me thinking the AutoFlex is deflecting a lot coming into impact. The majority of my shots today launched very high. The next time out I will loft the Mavrik down to eight degrees. Also, near the end of the session I switched to my tallest tee (2.5" above ground, 4" total), and that helped center the ball vertically on the face. Quite a few balls visibly had too much spin, but I would guess hitting them low on the head was the cause of that. I middled the last shot in the video and crushed it. I can't say the AutoFlex was any better or worse than the Rogue White in regards to dispersion. My good shots are slight draws, awful shots are duck hooks or high and right. Those misses have been consistent all winter through four different driver/shaft combinations.

  35. Really liking the mat to hit little chips taking the club shaft back to parallel to ground to work on clean contact with no ball indoors. Also for back to 3/4 swings with lead arm parallel to ground. Easy to grab a club in the living room and make a couple swings to dial in low point and get the feel of a good transition and not hanging back.

  37. Some people are better at it than others. I glad it's working for you; I wasn't good at it. If you are playing on the course practicing your swing thoughts/drills, I agree with you. If you spend an hour or two a day working through a drill on the range and then the next day play in a league or any round where there's pressure, I will agree with Daniel Coyle. The mind and body will do what they know best, and it is not the new swing change. Can you get better... yes, if you minimize the pressure situations. It will just take longer. Players have to make a choice; put in the effort to make a change permanent sooner, or drag out improvement over a longer period of time, while enjoying more time spent playing. For the pros it's a job. When a pro makes a swing change, they do it during their off season and hit thousands of balls until the new swing habits have replaced their old swing habits. In competition they know that they can't have an old habit resurface. It's funny, most amateurs think all they need to do to get better is take a lesson or watch a YouTube video and hit a couple of buckets of balls.

See. This is where you wrong. The average MGS forum member? You’re right, they’re probably getting fitted However, the MGS blog (articles, most wanted testing results) is read by a far larger population of golfers and 99.999% of those readers don’t post on the MGS forums. Those readers ARE buying stock options off the shelf with limited or no fittings Those are the people who can benefit most from the MGS testing articles

    How'd you play?

Not as well I would have liked yesterday, but considering I had zero warm-up and had been traveling all weekend I'll take what I can get - 49/46 for a 95 at Hawks Creek with 34 putts. My game was very up and down - especially on the front nine - but I managed four pars and one birdie. I had three 3-putts on the back nine that were basically just unforced errors. I think I finally got the new putter figured out and just need to give certain putts a bit more attention. There were so many highlights from the round yesterday: My wife came with me and rode in the cart. My playing partner Steve was absolutely amazing. Super nice guy with a solid game who retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service which was just perfect for the course as it sits right next to a Naval Air Base that frequently sends planes up for drills and testing. Yesterday we had the privilege of watching an F35, a small handful of F16s and a C-130!!! Golf related - Birdie on the Par 5 12th playing into the wind that I somehow managed to navigate almost perfectly, and a near hole-out for birdie on the Par 3 17th after missing right of the green. Check my new golf IG @birdienerdgolf for some pics and a video of my shot on 17: https://www.instagram.com/p/CMex7t5l8tQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Take care of the back; golf can wait. I know it is hard, I am in the midst of a doctor Imposed golf timeout and just when I was making good progress on my swing. Getting my fix by practicing my putting and will probably schedule a time with my coach to talk about strategy.

  46. More putting with a 17* day today. I am in love with the putt out trainer and I cannot wait until I can put this to work on the course. I have created a routine where I will leave It set on the floor and If I have a few minutes to spare I will roll a few putts. I've been playing around with head position and ball placement with my stroke. Right now I am seeing some nice success with my eyes just inside the line and putting the ball positioned off my left ear. Catching the ball on the upstroke is really working well for me.
