  5. I used both Grint and Arccos throughout #CC4 last summer. Grint is really lightweight as long as you're not using the GPS. As a long-time Grint Pro member I'm in! (Pro-tip for Android users: I do random surveys with Google Rewards to earn Play Store dollars. You can pay for a month-to-month Grint Pro subscription with Play credit. Don't think I've paid anything to be a pro member in the 2+ years of doing this.)

Fortunate to play Spanish Hills Club in SoCal today. Irons were working, and I ended up with an 83. Low round since back surgery, felt good to make some shots out there today!

... It has been great to get back to feeling confident with my swing on the golf course. Had a very nice start to my round today with winds about calm to about 5 mph and I had 4 birdies with 1 bogie. Then the wind picked up quickly on #9 to about 20+mph and things got difficult as it was a swirling hard to judge wind. It's one thing to start with those kinds of winds an another to be playing well and have it suddenly appear after 8 holes. At least that is my excuse.

  8. Took the M5 out for a spin today (lol sounds like I am talking about a certain German performance sedan) to test the battery life. Last time the battery was charged was last week after my second round. Battery has been sitting disconnected since then. Plugged it in today when setting up the cart and at first the battery indicator showed full. Then immediately dropped down to about 75% but still green. 35 minutes in, the indicator had not changed. It went down to 50% and yellow then bounced back up to green for bit. I would say about 1 hour into the round, the indicator stayed at 50% and yellow. By the end of the round which lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes (we lost light at about hole 15 and just walked back to the clubhouse and stopped at 100 yards at each hole in and played closest to the pin) the indicator had not changed. I will not charge the battery until my next round with the unit. Not sure if it will be this weekend or next week. This should be a realistic test of someone who may charge the battery to full and leave the unit in their trunk with the battery for a round per week. Also distances on the GPS were consistently longer than my Shotscope watch but within acceptable limits. Also, look at what arrived today. 14 way divider with 7 pockets. Details card attached to handle states 100% waterproof! Umbrella holder is internal, not external like my current bag. Construction feels sturdy and the zippers feel very premium. The bag strap connectors are metal. I believe my Datrek light bag is made of plastic but may be to save weight not necessarily because of cheaper construction. This bag does not have a dedicated putter well. Not a deal breaker. I like that the insulated compartment is the largest front compartment and is at the bottom for best drainage. On my Datrek bag, the cooler compartment was the middle compartment. Since I drink a lot of water and sometimes take my own wraps to the course, I appreciate a big cooler compartment. Motocaddy sent all of us testers a bag in order to test the Easilock function. Essentially it is a self-locking mechanism for the bag so we dont need to use straps when on the Motocaddy cart. Similar to a groove and tongue design, the tongue is on the bottom of the cart and the groove is on the bottom of the bag. There are also 2 studs that screw into the bottom of the bag. The bag comes with the screws and a small wrench (or spanner as they call it in the UK, so is a spanner wrench a wrench wrench? lol) to install. See pictures below. Motocaddy claims the Easilock system makes the bag straps obsolete and the bag should not rotate or come off the cart. Challenge accepted! Finally got a video of the ADC (automatic distance control) function in use. You get up to the green after your excellent approach. You grab your putter, activate ADC and send the cart towards the next tee. As long as the path is relatively straight with no hazards in the way, it will be there waiting. Distances go from 5-60 yards. The ADC speed is automatically set to 5. There goes my dreams of drag racing a fellow golf cart in my group lol. Was a bit windy today sorry for the windy audio! 20210413_160855.mp4

  11. During my round Sunday, I got a chance to try out the GoPro I bought. I picked up a suction mount to attach it to the cart for its maiden voyage. I was planning on doing a rundown of every hole in the front, but the battery died in the sixth. I'm hoping to film some really bad course vlogs for my entertainment because it's just fun to film and edit. Here's a snippet from Sunday, the sound isn't the greatest because it was windy.

  15. My wife and I were heading to the course Sunday when the conversation turned to her wanting a tablet she can take outside and draw on. My hobby is golf, hers is drawing and she's really, really good. So she brought up she'd like to get an iPad. Of course I jumped all over that for completely altruistic reasons without any ulterior motives *cough* launch monitor *cough*. I've been thinking about both the Mevo and the Rapid and it just so happens they only run on Apple. Not that I'd do something like that.

  17. This was a conversation I had with my wife around 2018. She knew golf was a passion and one of the few things I'm really good at. I told her I need to go one of two ways. I need to either let it just be a once a week thing through the summer and just relax and play, or I need to give this my all. Well you know which one I decided. I started 2018 as a 10, got as low as 2, and finished the year just under 4. Then in 2019 it was a rough start to the year, terrible cold weather through June, so the first tournaments I played were in the mid-40s temp wise. Courses shouldn't have been open for play. And a bad experience with the Golf Week tour soured everything at the beginning. Plus our first child was due in October so that preparation took time as well. And then 2020... But now it's back to it. I got a BirdieBall practice green this winter, back on weight watchers, new chriopractor/sports medicine doc, lessons lined up with my course pro starting in May. My first posted rounds are 80-80-76, sitting at 5.2. I don't know how far I'll go, but I am giving this everything. Take Dead Aim

  19. So you are forcing me to ditch my job on Friday so I can go play golf??? That's preposterous!!! I'm in!!! Never used The Grint before, but looking forward to it! Thanks MGS! Damn, I'm so rusty. Haven't touched a club since November 2020.

    How'd you play?

... Have a smooth and rhythmic swing. Practice the short game until it is a strength. I can make a birdie after a bad drive. I can make a birdie after a bad iron shot. But I can't make a birdie after a bad pitch/chip/putt.

  21. Went to the range to practice on strike quality and keeping the ball flight down. Was hitting into a 15 to 20 mile an hour headwind. Was pretty happy with the results and my consistency with the irons. I’m excited to go back to Bandon. Finished the session with 15 driver swings. Had a few a little low on the face but overall pretty much dead center every time! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Not a gripe, more of a "concern"...I love being involved with my kids and their sports, but I'm going to have to get damn creative to get my rounds in this year. This is my 5-year old son's T-ball schedule. His older brother (7) is in a select traveling team league, and has practices/games three times a week as well. And, he starts a junior golf league in the middle of May. Looking forward to it all, really, just looking forward to some golf too!

  34. 6 x 8 at 50 - 75 yards would look like you're hitting onto a quarter! Mine is about 14 x 27 and is not an easy target at 65 yards. I had it put in about 10 years ago and it was the best purchase I ever made related to golf!! It cost less than a Harley or boat and it is definitely cheaper to maintain!! The contractor did the retaining wall and putting green and I did all the landscaping around it. I had them make it as flat as possible and it has held up well. There are some subtle breaks that have developed but I marked out spots where 5, 10, 15 & 20 foot putts are straight. In my opinion the three holes are enough on my size layout. I wanted to add support for the comments about getting the drainage right. Because of our clay soil they started with a layer of 2" stone, then a layer of 3/4" then a layer of crusher run and then a top layer of stone dust. Each layer compacted level before going to the next layer. They and I did as Tom suggested and putted on the stone dust layer to identify any non level areas. When they dug out the holes in mine they used a cement mix around it and not just the stone dust. They said it was to keep the cup from raising up over time. Only a heavy downpour will cause puddles on it and within 15 min they are gone.

  37. Here's my backyard looking out from my patio. I have a retaining wall that extends my entire backyard property line. I'm considering having a putting/chipping green put in on the upper level from those center steps by the small evergreen trees to the right. From the steps to the left is my garden area with a few patches of grass. Here's the right side of the upper level where I want the putting/chipping green. The steps here on the right is the only viable way to get a mower to the upper level = pain-in-the-arse!! I think all the grassy areas should be artificial or rock. The greenhouse is going; I don't use it. From the small dogwood tree to the evergreen shrubs I have about 45 feet to work with and it's about 14 feet wide. I wish the power pole and cable weren't in the way but it's near the edge of the property, and I can work around it.

  38. Feel your pain and going thru similar where work and other interests have the amount of time I can practice cut down from years past. Also like you trying to do some swing work and the frustration level can go up. I’ve seen Monte say this a few times in different places. High handicaps speak in terms of shot by shot. Mid caps in terms of trips to the course. Low caps in terms of weeks and months. Elite golfers in terms of months or even years. ...and ironically, the amount of practice time falls that way in ascending order. I feel like I’m currently falling between mid and low caps thoughts and amount of time right now. Trying to get my mind to think in the mode that it’s going to take time and I reflect on what GG talks about in his course that someone who can practice like a pro making the changes can be done quickly but those of us with limited time it’s going to be a lot longer. Also trying to use GGs mental course to not set expectations and not let ego get in the way.

  41. @B.Boston does the Arccos app consume a lot of battery? The Grint itself doesn't really consume much battery for me if you don't keep it on the whole round. Just start the app and then turn it on only to enter scores or look at GPS for hazards and stuff. I just claimed my free set of Arccos sensors from TM for being a Birdie rewards customer lol. They wanted 129 more for the wearable but I am just going to try for a few rounds and compare to my Shotscope. Will probably give them away to a friend or family member after I have tried them. This is such a great idea. Now every round I play is going to be like I am in a season long tour event or something! Exciting!
