    Got Problems?

... Reminds me of a VW commercial, back in the 60's. It had 2 houses side by side and the one on the left was average while the one on the right was a mini mansion. A guy pulls a Porche into the driveway on the left as the announcer says "The man who lives in the house on the left drives an expensive sports car" and then a guy pulls a VW Beetle into the driveway on the right and the announcer continues with "and the man who lives in the house on the right ... fixes them."

    How'd you play?

Played the Wolf game today at the other course in town. I don't play there much, but I get to play for free with this group of guys. Well, free if I don't lose a bunch of quarters!! Last week they played at my course and I shot 74 and took their quarters! They wanted revenge, so we played at their course today. A sunny 75º day with about 10-15 mph wind from the opposite direction from normal. I drove the ball well; chipping and putting were OK except for one hole; in front of the green in two shots on the par 4 #16 and ended up with a double; my only one of the day. I did have two birdies; almost got to the par 5 #3 in two shots... chip and a putt. The other was on the par 4 #15; pin high on a green that slopes severely back to front; 12 footer left to right breaking about 3 feet. Shot 80... 40/40. A nice round for men on that course, but lost 2 quarters.

    How'd you play?

A little bit of the old me showed up for today's round. 39/40. Fairly consistent, although my driver did put in in at least 4 situations where I had to punch out to the fairway. I did have one double bogey when I 3 putted a tricky green. Putting was not really that sharp today. Could have been a better score, but I'll take the 79 given what I've been shooting lately!

  8. First off let me start this story by saying I'm an idiot. Now that that's off my chest let's begin. Back in 2018 I was part of the original MGS SuperSpeed review. At the completion of the protocols I saw my baseline speed jump from about 104mph to a peak of 111mph. This was measured on the slightly juiced SwingSpeed Radar that was usually 3-5mph faster that better tracking devices. I admittedly slacked off with the program shortly after posting my final review but picked it back up each winter once the snow started falling here in Wisconsin. This particular winter I really focused on a Fit for Golf workout program along with the SS sticks. Shout out to Mike Carroll at Fit for Golf for putting together a great program. After working all winter I decided to test my swing in late March to see if new gains were made. I don't have any type of fancy setup but I do have a Skytrak in my garage with a portable heater and previously mentioned SwingSpeed radar. After getting warmed up I let loose to see exactly how fast I could go. I was picturing something like this happening on the course this summer: I started off in the same 108-110mph range that I hit with my 2018 peak. Figuring that I had nothing to lose hitting into a net I went all out. Who cares if it's 50 yards offline if I'm bombing them! Slowly my numbers started to creep up. First 112, then 114 for a few swings. One hellacious swing actually hit 116mph on the Skytrak (120 on the SwingSpeed radar). I was admittedly starting to get tired by this point but wanted to keep going to see if I could top 116mph. I should have known better. Around swing # 50 this happened: I'm extremely glad no one else was home because there was a string of swear words that was definitely not fit for children much less adults. I made decent contact with the ball but on my ridiculous follow through I hit the ceiling rafter with the club head. I should have immediately ordered this shirt: After swallowing my pride I sent a picture of the club to the head pro and my local public course. After he stopped laughing at me (jerk) he said he would contact Cobra and see what he could do. Knowing that it was 100% my fault I expected Cobra to get a good laugh at the situation and then I end up ordering a new club from them at full price. One week goes by with no word. Two weeks go by with no word. And today I receive this email: Cobra is awesome. I pull an all time idiot mistake by breaking my F9 driver in the garage and Cobra replaces the head with a brand new RAD Speed for free. They even sent the Peacoat and Red version that I preferred. I was already a Cobra fan for life after competing in the Cobra Connect Challenge but this puts them above and beyond anything. Thank you Cobra. TL;DR: Cobra is an amazing company, I'm an idiot, my local head pro is great, and MGS is the best forum on the planet. If you are in the market for a new club do yourself a favor and test out a Cobra. I'm not guaranteeing it will be the best fit for you, but you can be sure you'll get absolute top notch service from them if anything should ever go wrong.

Good you're feeling better so quickly. I think @dlow206 and @Grand Stranded each had those symptoms once but it was from not ordering a club for 48 hours straight! They quickly healed themselves!!

  10. First round in, I had a great front 9, made the turn with a +5, 40 my best score ever on the front, but the cold and slow play of the group ahead got the best of me in the back, still I only shot a +13, 50 getting me a total +18 90 for the post hibernation round. I hope I submitted the score card appropriaterly.

  11. As cnosil put it, if you're getting a wedge or 9i in, you're probably making an acceptable play on the hole. Unless you can carry those left hand trees on the blue line, the margin for error is small pretty much the whole way up the hole until that big opening left and short of the green. At that point, you're playing for percentages. Laying back a bit might give you a better angle to the green, but you have less fairway to work with and a water hazard to deal with and the trees on the right are likely still in play. And this is one of the sticking points Scott gets into on Twitter a lot, angles don't matter enough for you to be chasing them as a good angle often means aiming into more trouble and giving yourself a much smaller margin for error. Your aimpoint should be to center your dispersion in the least amount of trouble as possible and as far down the hole as possible. If you end up blocked out in the trees, unfortunately that's just shot variance at play and could just as easily happen if you lay back too. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not an expert on DECADE, but this is just what I've gathered from following Scott and Lou for the last year and a bit, plus the free month of Foundations I got last year. 16. Managed to get in about 13 holes before dark today. So far I was really impressed with the cart. The GPS really came in handy and was spot on for distance I'm my experience. Since we do not have the accessory pack yet it was nice to have the on screen score tracking. It was super easy to do. I'll try to get a video of this next time. I don't play at any country clubs so the courses that I play on are usually pretty bumpy and hilly, but I got a couple of videos on the larger hills on the course today. I usually walk pretty fast so I kept it around speed 5 or 6 and with the downhill control I had no trouble keeping up with it. I think the video shows the downhill control pretty well. It did tip over at one point going up the side of a hill. Definitely my fault for not paying attention, but when it tipped back the wheels just kept spinning so it seems like it might not be a bad idea for there to be some sort of auto shut off for the wheels if it tips over. I get why the M7 has the anti tip wheel on the back because it's expected that you won't be hands on with the cart but I think it would still be nice to have on the M5. The cart bag is getting delivered tomorrow so I'll get that out this weekend and play a round with it. 20210415_182128.mp4

  19. Quick video and picture of the Easilock function. The studs fit into the slots on the "tongue" of the cart and really do keep the bag from moving. It is still easy to remove the bag if you lift straight up. Good function and I will have to test on rough ground to see if the bag stays on without the lower bag strap. 20210415_175305.mp4

  20. Let me see what options I have to set that up Good suggestion! *update: Since the new test section is not technically a "forum" there is no way to setup a "follow" for that section. However, the other mods and I will make sure post it as an announcement up top - when space allows - to alert everyone of the testing opportunities. This would be in addition to an email blast to all members and any support from MGS HQ with blogs, email, social support.

    How'd you play?

The quarters have to be paid on the next tee. All of us are old and cheap!! Since the rounds of golf are comped, it cost me 2 quarters to play 18 holes with a cart. Not bad!! Sometimes I get paid quarters to play golf there.

  28. I just need to go see a professional club fitter. Went to the course today and asked if I could demo something in the driver that can lofted down to 7°... dude asked me why, I said well because I hit moon balls with my current set up. Not sure if I have a flip or what, but full out swings with anything south of a 8 iron just take off sky high. My 58° nearly goes up my nostril, but still goes 100 yards. Everything else launches too high too. Leasons would probably help a lot too.

No strength, chills, face was burning up, no taste. I thought I would just lay down for a while around 4:30 yesterday. I woke up at 7:00 this morning. I don't think I ever slept 14 hours straight. Almost feel back to normal now. Appetite and taste are back, energy level is picking up. Just in time for some golf this weekend.

  31. I like the drop down, I'd leave it as an option there. Might be nice to also have it in the Testers Wanted section pinned to the top though. I can see lots of people navigating there just because it's visible without hovering over a menu option. Or once it's not used anymore bury the old forum section and just place the link for the new one in it's place.

  33. @ncwoz covered it pretty well but here's a few example holes from my home course. There are only a few tree areas that have underbrush, so unless you're on the outskirts of the course and hit one OB you likely can play a shot out. Hole 1 - 305 yard par 4. You're not getting back to the hole from anywhere on the right side, but you don't want to be long or left of the two trees on the left. This is a hole I used to hit driver on but find my Super Hybrid leaves me with ~50 yards and can't reach the big tree on the left. With driver I was way more likely to be right in the trees or left and probably re-teeing. Hole 3 - 510-ish par 5. Left trees are full of underbrush and ball will be gone. Trees to the right you can punch back out but unlikely to advance. Being a par 5 you'd think driver but the big tree on the left side of the fairway really blocks you out. I've had better luck sitting back short of the tree and then hitting a hybrid up near the green because there is a big bail out area right. Hole 13 - Another short par 4. Here's where the hit driver strategy is better, and in the past I tried using an iron here but found myself in trouble more often than not. The hole is short enough that the driver actually gets you out of trouble and irons leave more trees in play. Not all courses around here are like this - but as you'll notice at biggest our fairways are 40 yards wide and almost all of them are tree lined. Only a few holes really allow you to go for it without worrying about trees.

  34. Some kind of sick joke out there today... EDIT: I feel bad for @Lacassem who is supposed to be playing at Wachusett CC tomorrow... the next town over is reporting 4 inches of snow right now. That new Radspeed driver is going to have some issues with roll unless they get all rain the rest of the day to melt the accumulated snow. On the plus side, it is supposed to get warmer through the day and evening into tomorrow... so maybe there's a chance?

    Got Problems?

Back in the early '70's in my young and stoopid days of car racing, I seriously consider buying a Ferrari... a used Dino 246GT with 15K miles on it; personal car of Ron Tonkin, big car dealer in Portland, also the Ferrari dealer. It was the same price as my first house I bought 2 years earlier. I didn't buy it because basically I'm cheap frugal; there was an annual maintenance cost of $1200 + parts. And that was the V6 engine!!!

  38. Of course! We have so many courses around here that are so tightly-lined that DECADE-type strategy isn't so obvious all of the time. I've redone my strategy now to look more at "hazards" reached on a line with distance and less at hazards left and right. Scott not wrong in his reply to me, I'm very likely to hit a shorter club into the trees as well. But there are a few holes where driver is simply too long and would run my into trouble on my intended line. On those holes I'm looking to drop back slightly to avoid the straightaway hazards.

  40. Saw some of the comments about hills. Anyone have super steep hills on the courses they play? Feel like almost every hole at my home course has steep hills. Here is an example of a typical hole at my home course. This hole I don't even consider to be one with that steep of hills relative to other holes.

    Removing flag sticks

We recently lifted that restriction. I still leave the flag in, but if someone else pulls it, I'm okay with that, too. I don't mind it being in or out. I can only think of one time that I feel the pin was the reason that I didn't make the putt, but I'm not one to ram it in hard, either. We also finally got rakes back, which is awesome!!!!

  43. If you have friends, REAL friends that is... there is no better answer than: The humble Minivan. Sadly that GIF is not me, in spirit maybe. My humble Honda Odyssey faithfully carries 3 friends + Myself to NH and Maine every year for 2 golf trips. It holds all the clubs, luggage, food, adult beverages, and other necessities one could need for a weekend of golf. Plus it does this in comfort and with absolutely no style at all. So no one expects you to be good at golf either.

  45. So this is turning into as much a bag test as it is an electric push cart test! Haven't had a chance to test the Easilock function but will be on the range tonight and will just mount the bag to the cart for testing purposes. Moved my entire bag over and found a few differences from my Datrek Light II bag. The valuables pockets are deeper so more space for bigger phones. I have a Note 20 Ultra so fairly large phone that I will test the fit. I use my phone for the Grint during rounds so not that it would stay in there. The cooler pocket is really big. I can fit a 6 pack of seltzer water with room for ice and whatever other canned beverages you may be sneaking bringing on to the course... I can also fit (though not at the same time as a 6 pack) my 1.5L insulated water bottle and the compartment still zips up. I drink a lot of water during a round (sometimes 3 or 4L in the heat of summer) so the big cooler pocket is a big plus for me especially if I plan on walking more rounds this summer!

  46. That's what has been so impressive so far is how stable it is. First day I got it, I walked outside and just looked around as I was walking. When I watched the video later, it was so smooth. I want to attach it to my car, but am just a little too paranoid about that.
