    How'd you play?

So, played last Saturday, never got around to posting about it, but it finally happened guys... SEVENTY SEVEN That's right, made it with room to spare, and pretty consistent round to boot. 1 birdie, 1 double, 4 bogeys, the rest pars. 12/18 greens was the big reason, that and a good round driving the ball for distance. Putting was no three putts, but only 2 one putts. Star performer... my new CBX Hybrid. Bought it for par 3 usage and short 4 layups, our 208 yard par 3, nice high draw, 25 feet. Hole with water in front, bomb the thing 230 off the tee with a running draw. 16th I hit a bad drive, stuck under a tree 190 out, second shot punch almost to the green. It is the new best club in the bag? I don't know, but it's definitely not going anywhere soon. So yeah, the quest to break 80 for the first time in a while is over (no need to banner me, I used to do it on the reg when I wasn't a lawyer and could actually practice and play), now to the next step... break 75...

    How'd you play?

I advanced out of round robin play in my match play event at the club I’m apart of a couple weeks ago. Got to play my sweet 16 match this afternoon. Opponent didn’t have his best and I ended up closing it out after 15 holes. Onto the elite 8! Shot a 79 41/38. 6 FIRs 10 GIRs Thankfully this was match play as the first hole was not kind to me. Topped my drive, chunked my second. Shanked my third, chip and 2 putt for double. Had multiple chances for birdie throughout the round, but only had 1 on the last hole of the match. Nice way to finish it off! I am playing with a mixed bag as I wait for the rest of my cobra clubs to come in. Going back and forth with trying to implement the new clubs in these match play events. Really love my current driver, but will see how the cobra woods perform when they come in. Hope to interact with some of y’all when these challenges start happening for CC5!

    - 39/39 = 78 (+6) - 4/15 FIR - 4/18 GIR (1 eagle!) - 26 Putts (9 2-putts, 8 1-putts, 1 eagle from the fairway) Wild. Round. Nasty conditions this morning. 15-20 MPH wind with 35 MPH gusts. Overcast and sprinkles. Thankfully the fairways were dry, but with the wind everything was an adventure. Managed a pretty solid front nine. Putter was great all round, chipping was pretty good also. Back nine started rough. Opened up with a double on 10 after being in the fairway 65 yards out. Chunked a pitch, left my next one short, chipped and two-putted. Bogied 11, 13 and 14. And then, my luck kicked in. No. 15 is a short par 4 at 274 yards. Blocked my 4 hybrid right all the way on to No. 5 green, but pin high to No. 15. Took my relief, pitched up and made par. No. 16 at 407 was playing dead into the wind. Smashed a driver but went left into trees, 160-ish out. Needing to get under the tree, pulled 6 iron, hit a perfect low runner up the hill that disappeared up onto the green. Got up there and didn't see my ball, figured it had run over. Couldn't find it. Check the hole - in the cup for eagle! Parred 17 and 18, hitting two good drives 260 dead into the wind and 289 downwind with the adrenaline. What a round! And as I came off it starting pouring rain, perfect timing. Still on a high. I don't have a hole-in-one, but a fairway eagle from 160 is pretty exhilarating.

    How'd you play?

OK, not me again!! A few weeks ago my wife played the first match of her Ladies league Match Play. She thought she had lost by one shot, but the committee check the scorecard and she won by two. She had a 16 course handicap and the other lady was a 10. So on to another match... She has been playing well lately and her course handicap is down to 15. Well, today she played her second match against a 23 handicap; giving a shot on the 8 hardest holes. She sent me a text after the par 3 #4 hole with a pic of her ball a couple of feet from the pin... birdie! Nice recovery from the 7 she took on the par 4 #3 hole. Didn't hear from her again until after the match was over and she sent me a copy of the scorecard. With the birdie on #4 she shot 45 on the front nine (+8), but on the back nine she parred every hole except #18 which she doubled, so a 37 (+2) for a round of 82. Her best score by far this year!! She won by 8 shots.

Holes of the round. No putts necessary on 1. The trees grew up at Brenda’s. I still aimed left just in case… cost me a stroke. Super beaut of a 5 iron, nearly chipped in for Eagle. Took the aggressive line over the drink. Beautimus fade, just beatimus. Craptastic 58°, blocked it way right, still on but not even close to my aim spot.

    How'd you play?

Man, it's been a while since I posted here, when I clicked on the thread it took to me to posts from May 29th...yikes Played well today, and with 6 holes left, It had a chance to be my all time best round. I shot 45/38 I began with 5 straight pars, the last 3 of the front nine and the first two of the back nine. Good birdie looks on 4 of the 5, and made good putts at each, they just didn't go in. But had a bit of unravelling on the Hole no. 1 (our 13th hole of the day) ended up with a triple due to two outside things that really disrupted the hole including my cart partner giving me a distance of 119 to the flag from the GPS when it was really 99...OOPs. He said he thought it was a back flag, it was a front. But I hit the shot, my bad. The other circumstance as a fight breaking out near the green with the group IN front of us, yes a fight! Rangers were called to break it up and when they came back to apologize to me and told me what happened (since I work here) it really upset me--(it was racially motivated) Both those combining with the heat was starting to take a toll, 90 degree temp and index of 98 degrees. Which is actually down about 7 degrees from the past few days. But I was still fighting it with me not back to 100% From there I was kind of stumbled home the last 5 holes. But overall I'm very happy with round. I putted just OK, with the exception of two three putts, but one of them was on one of the toughest greens to read from about 60 feet. Drove the ball well Titleist TSi1--see the update of it in my drive challenge thread. This is my 4th round with the Cobra Radspeed One Lengths and each round has been better and better. They are really good irons. Along with a couple things I've been working on with our instructor seem to be paying off.

  9. There are plenty of guys on Tour who are pains in the rear with their club specs and rightfully so. Just look up Bubba and his 14 layers of tape… When you consider how competitive it has become, I would want my tools to be absolutely precise. I mean, we have 9 handicaps on this forum who tinker with clubs as much as some Tour players. At the end of the day, Cobra signed him knowing full well what he was all about.

  10. A few thoughts: Based on everything I've read, Bryson is amazing at finding the center of the face. I believe Tony Covey has tweeted things to this effect. That means he's not asking for a driver that saves drives that he's hitting all over the face. That said: he's playing a 5° driver and approaching 200mph of ball speed. There just isn't legal equipment (and in my opinion, there shouldn't be) that eliminates the prospect of giant misses there. Bryson nearly single-handedly created a niche product market for single-length irons. Nope, almost no one is playing the same clubs he's playing (and no one should). But I'd love to see what happens to One Length iron sales each time he wins. I wonder if that alone is worth keeping him on.

  11. Been a long time coming with A) Rain and B) waiting for my wife to be done with school so @B.Bostonand I could get our early morning Thursday rounds in. Well today was day 1 FINALLY! I swear the putter knows its on the hot seat between me wanting to buy and holding out to test something! 43 (+8) 5/7 FIR's 0/9 GIR's (Ouch!) 14 putts. 3 Par's 5 Bogey's and 1 Other....1st hole too! Driving didn't feel that good, but I was hitting fairways just not to long with how wet we still are. Approach is accurate but doesnt reflect how well I was striking the ball, was short or left on everything, but it is super wet and the air feels like a swimming pool right now so I cannot be to frustrated. Chipping wasn't as good as it has been. Left myself some long putts. Only 1 3 putt because I put myself in a bad spot chipping on short-side, left myself a real long one and didnt execute getting it close but the rest of the morning lag putting was lights out, nothing is really dropping for me right now but the pace is right there and its just missing. Longest drive was 261, just no roll and I swear the ball is flying through water. Can see here, any other day of the week this ball rolls down the hill and its 280 easily. Instead it plugged and somehow came backwards. This hole I was 168 out, grabbed 7 iron which would have been plenty. Mild rough and I flushed the thing. Was tracking right at the flag with a slight right to left. Again any other day of the week this would have hopped on and rolled to the flag, instead plugged and came back at me All in all beautiful morning, I am worried about how many mosquitos are going to be spawning over the next week though! When they are out during the day, its never good and they have been out!

  15. If I was an equipment company, I would stay far away from Bryson. The amount of resources you would have to put forward to R&D to make a driver that fits Bryson would take a lot of time, money, and people. Full recap of what happened - in Bryson's post round interview (https://twitter.com/theopen/status/1415699970276139010?s=21) he says the "driver sucks" and mishits result in really bad shots. Golfweek then gets a Cobra rep to comment on his statement. The rep who goes into detail about what they are having to do to work with Bryson. People are actively CAD'ing to get him a better driver. At what point is Cobra not seeing ROI when Bryson demands so much? What they design for him would never touch a shelf in a big box store.

  16. Sounds like there may be some behind the scenes things he is dealing with. While Bryson doesnt really hold back comments this sounds like A) a frustrating round compounded by B) those behind the scenes issues he is dealing with. Regardless I am somewhat happy Ben Schomin responded back in that way responding they are doing everything they can.

    How'd you play?

I knew it was a good shot because it hit the hill and kind of dribbled up onto the green out of sight. When I got up to the green and didn't see it, I was actually upset because I couldn't believe it had rolled over and off the back... only to not be able to find it back there and then double back toward the cup. In an extreme stroke of luck, the maintenance guys had just moved the pin on No. 16 as I was teeing off No. 10 as well. What a coincidence.

I was able to recently test the Tommy Armour TA3 putter and the only way I was able to easily find the thread was finding my notifications of when someone liked a post or quoted me. I don't think I could easily find the thread right now. The actual review threads just shows a bunch of reviews from 2020.

    Short vs. Long

We have a few plus handicappers here. Other than them anyone who says they are more frequently long with their approach shots needs to take a super long, hard look in the mirror.

Played 1-4 wonderfully. Even par. 5-9… not so much, got stuck behind the slowest golfers in the world. I really hate slow play, like really really hate it. I don’t understand how it takes 1.5 hours to play 5 hole, absolutely ridiculous.

We should start a pole, who hits it further with their recent purchase, you or me. here are the rules: I get my Epic Max LS. You get your 18.2* Sim2 Titanium Fairway. Has to be used as received. Therefore you do not get to use a shaft. Sorry that’s the only way it will be close.

  25. First off, I really appreciate what the staff are doing to make improvements to the forum. I do believe that these changes, once smoothed out, will make for a better experience on the site. Here's what I'm currently experiencing as far as the testing threads and I'm going to use the MaxFli thread as an example. No matter what page I click on, I get the first page and don't see an option to go to other member's comments. I also get channeled to the same page if I click on a notification, as I'm following the thread. At the bottom of the page, I'm also not seeing a place to change pages or don't have the ability to like a post as I would like to show appreciation to the testers for the work they've put in. As a former tester, I know I like seeing when someone hits the like button and I want to reciprocate. It is all a bit frustrating, but I know y'all are hard at work trying to make it better and I appreciate that.

  28. Completely agree that we need to make some adjustments to smooth it out and make it more accessible for all. New members, guests and us old hats. My response was specific to that person in assisting them for the moment with how it currently is as we work on adapting to make it more intuitive and streamlined for all. That I don't know, however I can see potential in this new system. This thread has provided a lot of good insight and I trust that every who has posted in here with their thoughts will trust us to do the proper work to sort the system out for the benefit of all. Then once that is all done I can get back to defending my MGS Fantasy Golf Championship!

    Forum Testing Update

It’s important to design a system that works for active members, passive members and anonymous forum browsers. If the latter two groups can’t find content easily, then the forum membership will become stagnant. As I type this there are 70 members and 435 guests browsing the forum Those 435 guests aren’t following threads. They aren’t creating custom streams. They aren’t receiving notifications.

I was just a couple off the personal best of 82. I was really tested mentally after that start to try and not think about it or get too far ahead. I did a decent job for the most part of just focusing on each shot at hand. A couple missed greens I really felt the pressure to get up and down. I did have 3 penalty strokes during the round, which combined with the lack of making any of those reasonable birdie putts, will always linger on what could have been. But I feel more good rounds are ahead! Thanks for the positive words! Yes, the fight was very unfortunate in a lot of ways.

    How'd you play?

Ah yes…. What this round could have been! It was all shaping up to be a beautiful morning of golf. I had my Callaway Epic Max LS ready to go with my guesstimate of settings and the wide eyes of a child on Christmas morning. This was going to be a good round! I couldn’t have asked for a better start. 6:30am and my first ever swing at a ball with my new driver…. 265 yards, high, straight, filthy… left center cut of the fairway: Turns out I should have stopped there! In all seriousness, besides that one first swing I was grinding today. Did not have my A swing and even when I tried to hit a second ball of the tee (for some extra swings with the new one) I ended up playing the first, and pretty sure I was actually in a better position with the first anyway! Score is still good at +5 with 4 pars and 5 bogeys. Only 1 GIR… but 4 up and downs. My best shot was on the 8th hole, a par 5. I had about 230 left to the flag after an OK drive that I pushed right and didn’t get all of which hit a tree but settled in a decent spot (247 yards). I hit my 5 wood nearly pin high and left of the flag. (Hi Mark! Nice chip!) Sadly this putt was much slower than I was expecting, and I missed the second putt too… so a great shot at an eagle, and a sure birdie, became a gross par. Gotta get that putter back in line, but I’m not playing greens like they’ve been wet for a half a month as they have. I will not miss the MMT shaft that came in the Max LS, and my Ventus will be in there before my next real round, but I’ll get a lot of range time next week as my son has golf camp, which means Daddy *has* to hit a bucket and wait for him since its only an hour each morning. I’m looking forward to the practice with the Max LS, because even with some of the bad shots today it seems like it has potential to be as long if not longer than the Speedzone, maybe with some added forgiveness too.

Admittedly I am a Tom Wishon disciple for club-making, club-fitting and golf technical research. https://wishongolf.com/twgt-books/ . Tom has tremendous knowledge regarding golf shafts. And there are tons of Wishon Tube videos and web content if you do a search. Several of his books discuss golf shafts in depth. And MGS community has many members with tremendous knowledge and that respond to golf shaft questions.
