  1. I played like s**t tonight on league. I shot 49 for 9 holes. I don't want to use this as an excuse but, my head isn't in golf right now. I have to put my buddy of 14.5 years down on Friday. It's killing me.

    How'd you play?

    - 42/44 = 86 (+14) - 2/15 FIR - 7/18 GIR - 35 Putts (17 2-putts, 1 1-putt) Had the feeling today's round wouldn't be great after such a good range session yesterday working on what feels like a major swing change for me. Got on the course and although my mind wanted me to do one thing, my body reacted another way and ended up with some not so pretty shots. However, I saw lots of flashes of great things and I'm happy with that. Went to tee off No. 1 with my 4 hybrid and the adapter screw was coming loose, so I had to resort to the 4 iron from the tee on holes I'd usually use hybrid. Wasn't a bad thing at all, just a little less forgiving. Two penalties off the tee, a mediocre chipping day and two missed birdies from inside of 5 feet all add up to an, "Eh," feeling round. I'm excited to see the results from the change I was working on, just have to trust the process because it's going to be a little less than pretty for a bit.

  3. So I had another 'doctor's appt' this afternoon as I was more concerned with the ball flight of the Cobra woods than I was about my TPS reports at work. It was a circus start to finish so hang tight with the story... I work in The Woodlands, TX and it's surrounded by a number of private courses. It's a tease. You think you have all these options but not really for the general public. I can usually find a way to hit balls at one of the courses if a buddy is available and this is where the fun started... First course: driving range closed due to total restructure of hitting deck and targets. Second Course: closed due to charity scramble. Third Course: range closed until 3pm on Wednesdays (I arrived at 1pm). Fourth Course: course closed in July for annual maintenance. Fifth Course...an absolute goat ranch. I won't say the name..but hey, they're open. I pull up into the parking lot and there's a whopping eight cars. Not a good sign given how packed courses are in the Houston area, even in the unbearable heat. Regardless, I grab my sticks and promise myself to enjoy the time out of the office and house. It's just after 1pm and the heat and humidity greet me immediately. I go into the 'pro shop' and two old gals assist me in purchasing two small buckets of the finest range balls I'v ever seen. One range ball actually still has a few dimples on it and another had what looked like a Callaway logo on it. When you're struggling to hit a straight ball with a certain club, 'eggs' are definitely NOT the best balls to straighten out that draw or cut. Here's what I was dealing with: The bermuda grass was sparse and the hitting area was sand based. I warmed up with four balls on the 56* wedge, three balls on the 8 iron (to reduce wear) and then moved to the utility, 5W, 3W and driver. Once again, mother nature sends her finest to interupt my practice session. At first, I thought maybe one of the lovely range balls exploded on contact, but turns out there was a catepillar infestation and one apparently made it's way onto the ball. I think there was so much sweat in my eyes to begin with, I didn't see it...regardless, more bug art on the copper MIMs. Utility iron was great. It sits a tad closed (in my opinion) in the STD setting but it launches great and no draw bias to it. Off the tee, it will be great for the long Par 3s or placement off the short Par 4s. I haven't hit it much on the course, but it does have a nice feel to it. The 3 & 5 woods were acting up but i think it's because I'm starting to stand just a hair away from the ball in a more 'driver' stance and playing for raw distance instead of control. The driver finally came around. I set it to STD (for optimal launch), 16g up front, 8g in the back, and actually setup with my hands a little higher. Ball after ball started down the inteded line and only a handful moved in a draw fashion. Now, this is different than what I'm used to so is this the player adjusting his swing to the equipment instead of the other way around? Well, yes. However, if that's what it takes to tame this driver, then so be it. This was the most consistent I've ever hit this club and that brought me some hope for the competition. Check out the strike pattern during today's range session: Last story...after a couple of drives, I was searching for my tee and noticed a tee in my area with a familiar logo. I picked it up and immediately started laughing...It was a Patrick Reed 'Team Reed' tee. Now, I know anyone could've picked it up at his course (Carlton Woods) and managed to drop it off at the goat ranch but I'm telling my golfing buddies he was out there and I have picture proof. Yeap, Patrick Reed, PGA's 2020 villian of the year, was hitting balls next to me and I grabbed one of his tees as proof. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

  5. Thank you, but as I have mentioned before to many it is not just me. We are very lucky as a site to have a truly incredible Mod crew that works very hard at this site. So so much of what the guys do we (I say this as member) does not get seen on the front end, as they work on well simply too many things to list here and attempt at balancing their normal lives. I was truly astonished when joining and what this team is doing and am grateful to be a part of it. The whole mod crew deserves credit for these updates as we did them together as a team and also with the memberships help/guidance to what we are trying to achieve with the new system. For me I am just the lucky one that has a job that enables me to spend way too much time on this site with a hurry up and wait schedule. Once again thank you all for your patients and we will be sharing more as any further updates/bugs come up or changes are being made.

  8. Great that these issues have been fixed. Hopefully the whole change process will be reviewed thoroughly and any significant future changes will be communicated clearly and early and that changes will be rigorously tested prior to roll out. Also hope the tab title can be changed quickly to reflect what is actually under it. It’s still counterintuitive (and more than a little bewildering) to have no mention of the current reviews under the Official Reviews tab Thanks for all the communication @GolfSpy_APH, seems a bit rough that the last guy on has to be the only one publicly communicating with the wider forum.

  9. Harry Nodwell posted a drill on his Instagram page, Nodwell's Daily Dingers, a couple weeks ago that was actually the catalyst for the change. In the past when I would struggle with my slice, I would subconsciously try to hit the ball further left, which in practice led to a more severe out-to-in club path and an even worse slice. After going through the drill that he suggested, I now set up for every drive aiming down the left side of the fairway, and then visualize a sweeping push draw and try to hit that. The result is a nice baby fade that matches the flight path of the rest of my clubs.

  10. This was the one of the reasons I went with the XB at 9° rather than the XD at 10.5° and lofted down. And since the order was placed I've been working on some swing changes that have dramatically reduced my slice, so the XB in a draw setup should be enough to keep me out of the next fairway over on the right!

    How'd you play?

Played really well today. Could hit driver anywhere I wanted which made things WAY easier! Unfortunately I had 4 bad iron swings…they led to 3 double bogeys and cost me huge today. Could have cruised to a sub 80 round but came up just short. I am so furiously close to playing some of my most consistent and best golf…75 is out there for me just gotta keep grinding.

  14. UPDATE: Okay everyone we and by we the developer has made some of the changes we requested and I am sure is working on more as I write this! To mark off the check list of requested items Photos bug, all comment photos appear at top of the page- FIXED Reactions (likes and such) for testers reviews - FIXED so please go like all their reviews! Signatures - Will show for testers in review at the moment - Partial FIX (honest question do we need them in the actual comment section) Mentions bug (brings to the bottom of review page not where mention or quote is) - Tested and FIXED Secondary Tab- What we have asked for is a separate review tab. After the testing is closed that comment tab will close as well. The review tab will then open up when we have announced testers. Showing in recent content - At the moment the streams "default" to not selecting the tests box, I am searching and trying to find the way it will default to all content and therefore show up without having to create stream or adjust any of that and this will then solve the issue where people who use recent content and it not showing up and missing out on it. Testing Opportunities header - This along with reviews header is something we are looking at as to how to reorganize it to make it simpler and more clear. Because the new testing runs separately it will be a bit different, but we will continue to brainstorm ideas and see some of these changes soon to just make it simply better. My Spelling and Grammer: TBD hehe If any of this is not showing for you please let me know.

  15. I strapped the Planemate on for the first time in a while this afternoon. As I've been working on my swing at the range this week, I'm realizing I was "cheating" the Planemate when I used it over the winter. In my quest to not get the long green band snapping below my forearms on the follow through, I developed a motion where my right shoulder dropped way down on the downswing. This allowed me to get the club coming from WAY inside. If I held my release off I could get to a semi-OK finishing position without the band snapping below my forearms. Had I been hitting balls with the Planemate on this would have been obvious, but with it being the winter I was doing a bunch of no ball rehearsal swings. I ended up grooving this move into my swing, which led to a bunch of blocks and hooks when my timing was off. You can kind of see me doing this on the video I posted several pages back in January (though the camera angle makes this look a little worse, most likely): Today I worked with the Planemate feeling a more proper downswing, one in which my left shoulder (to me) feels like it's going more down and around rather than up and back in the downswing. Good results so far. I'm going to try to do more dry swings with this feeling to help me cement that movement a little better. I've had good results on the range over my last two sessions, but it's going to take some time before it transfers to the course.

    How'd you play?

Played Plantation Palms today shooting 46/45:91 with 1 Birdie(#2 handicap par 4). FIR 10/14 71% GiR 5/18 28% Putts 34 We play a Net Skins game. I’m a 14 playing off a 5 so I got 9 stokes. I won the net hcap on 3 holes, for $9 winnings. That means on a $3 game with 8 players. There were 8 net skins so each one paid $3.

  18. Update #3: Testing Opportunities Change Another hour another update for everyone. I will recap all this after I make myself some dinner later however we have changed Testing Opportunities to CURRENT TESTS and are looking at what to put as reviews. This should help clear up all tests and then make things a bit clearer as all well current tests will be under the same spot and again we will update the titles of those tests to reflect what stage they are in.

  19. I know basically all has been said, but wanted to just say I can see both sides however been involved in the previous Morikawa for Berger trade when it was said here that this trade was happening again I was curious to see what "extra" was going to go along with Berger. I insisted on FABB being added as it will become more valuable now that the trade deadline is approaching and our only way of adding talent will be waivers. This is also the time of year where some bigger names can get dropped for players that are playing. Again adding value to FABB and 18% of our total budget isn't a small amount. Finally I'll add in the week I traded for Berger + FABB for Morikawa, Berger was a favorite going into the weekend and playing while Morikawa was not and that adds value as well. Example being this week I was trying to get Finau, because I wanted 4, however with that little green star his value is up and at a price I just couldn't find a deal. Him for Hovland straight up to me isn't enough value for Hovland, but anyway this is to say the timing of when that previous trade happened also inflated Bergers value. I was disappointed when I saw it was a straight 1 for 1 as I felt there should have been more added on the Berger side, but everyone agrees to different trades (pretty sure Morikawa has been traded a lot this season). There have been more lopsided trades and I went through all the trades last week trying to find some, but I think with this one a little too little value given for him and the timing made it look less fair as well. Given there is only 1 event they may play in then playoffs and Morikawa being a lock to play final weekend and Berger maybe only 2 weekends depending on play I can see why it was vetoed. Hope both of you guys can rework the deal and find something that works for both of you and is able to add the extra value for Morikawa.

Had my best 9 holes ever. Shot a 47. It included a 30 foot putt for par on the first hole. 451 yard par 5. The shot that keeps me coming back though was my shot from the right rough from 172 yards over a tree and 2 putted for par. The shot that brings ya back.

    Bushnell Launch Pro

I wonder if it's so that Foresight can maintain their "premium" price tag in the professional space while licensing their name and technology to Bushnell for use in the consumer space. Plus Bushnell already has the brand recognition in the consumer space. I would argue that Foresight doesn't have much brand recognition within the consumer space, especially relative to "Trackman". Bushnell would also have a distribution network that is capable of supporting the retail space as well as the direct to consumer space.

  31. It was on the MGS social feeds last night as well; doesn’t seem to be a lot of information other than a fall release. Have seen speculation that it is a new/updated iteration of the GC2 with club data. Interesting that foresight is partnering with Bushnell and not releasing this themselves. Look like the PLM space is going to be interesting to watch over the next year or so. Will this be on the same level as skytrak and mevo+ or will it be a theoretical step up like the Tiger launch monitor that has been in pre launch for a while. here’s the website: https://www.bushnellgolf.com/launch-pro

  33. Late getting here, what did I miss? I am kidding of course. My two cents for what is worth. Trade offer's come and go, and if is accepted I have no issues with them being processed, regardless of if they could be lopsided, I think at this point, most of us know how to evaluate an offer, the trading sheet is a great tool that was created from @GolfSpy_APH idea of an easy tool to compare players, it does quantify some of the value of the player, but that is just part of it, anyone making a trade should try and understand how their players have been playing as of late and how they might fair on the near future. Morikawa was part of my roster for a quick second last week, I feel bad now after the open that I did not keep him, but at the time the trade I made gathered me some good value, keeping him would have probably got me a few more wins over the weekend, but we all take a risk trading. This week I had another trade that was heavily lopsided on my favor, and I even reached back out to ensure that the offer was correct, the other person assured me that it was because they needed players who are playing the next couple of weeks for the final playoff push.

However signatures were mentioned by several members who wanted to be able to see them... Albeit in the comments section which as of right now is not available. There are a few who although like them a lot as members have signatures that take up more room then i want to see so I simply hide them.

  35. This month has been a whirlwind for me, I've been packing / moving out of my old house, and now I'm the middle of a 3 week homeless stretch of staying with friends and family until I can move into my new house. That said, like @PMookiedo the vast majority of my forum viewing on mobile. And the site is getting incredibly slow and bordering unusable some days. So in the quest to make all things more better, please ask those developers to give the mobile product some love. Just in the middle of writing this an ad popped up that covered the part of the screen showing what I'm currently typing, I kept trying to scroll the screen to what I was typing, and it kept snapping back. I had to close the ad entirely to see my screen again. Please help.

  36. I think there are (at least) two things we should agree on to make sure these late trades are fair: Zalatoris trades should be vetoed. Anyone that still has him knew he was a risk, and he gave them a good run. At this point, no playoff-bound team should be shopping him around for a Top 50 (or even Top 75) FedEx guy. Similar to some of the frustration above, I was offered Z for Finau straight up today, which I declined immediately, but I would hope it would get blocked if I accepted. Any top tier guy coming from a fringe or out-of-contention team and going to a playoff-bound team should expect a lot of scrutiny. The exception in my mind is if a fringe team is getting someone in the next field to help them with a playoff push. I don't disagree with the Berger-Morikawa trade on paper - both are currently in position to make the Tour Championship, and Morikawa might be in position to take a week off (that's still a thing guys do for the Northern Trust, right?), which would put you at a disadvantage. But I get why it was vetoed given the current standings. If it were two playoff teams or if Berger was playing 3M, I'd say let it go through, but there's just no upside for the other team.

    My recent journey

So I'm a doofus -- swear I was posting this in 19th hole. Could a mod shift this to there. Hopefully this post is in the right spot. Bare with me, I'm basically downloading a bunch of stuff that my wife will patiently listen to but doesn't really care about or have insight on. So, I've been on a golf adventure as of late (not the good kind either, just fumbling around in the dark) and in the process have learned a lot about my swing, my equipment, and the way I practice. Background: I'm one of those self taught golfers who's never had a lesson which is at this point both good and bad. The good being that I've developed a decent enough natural swing that some of the better golfers I know have complimented me (and told me to not let someone rebuilt it when I do get a lesson) and the bad being that when it unfolds I waste a lot of time trying to figure out how to fix it when it's typically something minor that a coach would probably see immediately. I've been having a huge problem with dispersion (on well struck shots with my RSI2 Regular Shafts) over the last six months to a year that has been incredibly frustrating and I've spent a lot of time fixing and adjusting little things with my swing, the biggest being that I shallowed up my backswing a bit which had the nice benefit of getting a better turn, smoothing out my tempo, increasing my swing speed, and mostly curing a heavily over the top steep swing that was responsible for a lot of hooks and hard pulls. Even with all of that work my dispersion was terrible from long to short irons. I just could not find consistency with well struck shots, they just kind of sprayed all over the place and seemed as likely to go left as right. What made it more frustrating was the feeling that I was striking the ball reasonably well (for my handicap at that point 11.1 unofficially) and I was sitting on the edge of a breakthrough into the single digits. I got so frustrated the I basically forgot all about practicing my short game and ,as expected, I regressed instead of making the jump (13.9 officially after I signed up for SCGA). Somewhere around May I had the silly thought that it was my equipment (partially right in the end) and started thinking about new Irons. I stumbled across Sub 70's demo program and ordered the 699 Pros with stiff shafts a try (Not to digress, but I really, really liked them, and something from them will be toward or at the top of my list when I do pull the trigger on new irons) The 699 lofts basically slot directly into my RSI2's so I pulled my 6&9 out of the bag put the 699 Pro 6 & 9 iron in play for a couple weeks. Pretty much immediately I noticed that the dispersion issues that I was having were either mostly solved or much reduced with the 699s and still very present with the RSI2's. Mishits obviously were still mishits. This was my first clue that some of my problem had to do with my equipment. I'll fully admit that even after 10 years playing I knew very little about golf clubs beyond reading about the different types of heads and I knew even less about golf shafts. I'd never bought anything brand new except my Betti and never had anything adjusted beyond re-shafting an old graphite iron after the butt broke in my hands. Down the rabbit hole I went reading about shafts until I was utterly and completely confused. Confused enough that I finally realized I was not going to figure it out on my own. I resolved to get fitted for the first time. It might seem strange, but I was weirdly nervous. Like I was going to show up and not be able to hit a thing or that they were going to point out some crazy flaw in my swing. In any case I showed up and they could not have been more accommodating. Warmed up with some 9 iron and immediately dove into my current club specs. The Trackman confirmed basically everything that I had suspected. I was spraying the ball around, even on well struck shots. The fitter was excellent and did a great job explaining all the data to me. I found the whole fitting process absolutely fascinating and incredibly enlightening about equipment. I was particularly surprised at how much a few grams here or there could affect whether or not I could hit the club. I had a great time getting fit was excited about what had been built then saw the quote.... So, back to being frustrated. I figured, okay, I'll just live with these Irons and find a way to play around the dispersion issues -- even toying with the idea of trying to slow my swing down. Half a small bucket later I realized that that was going to be a perfect way to destroy my swing so I threw threw that idea in the trash heap. I started re-reading 'Golf is not a game of Perfect' to find some mental focus and added a new one 'The little book of Breaking 80' which reminded me just how much I'd been neglecting my short game. I started researching re-shafting my clubs (good idea) and building my own clubs (bad idea), another idea that went in the trash heap. Then started searching to see if I could find a builder in my area that was not a big box store. Nothing against those guys, but I see how busy the Roger Dunn club repair/building area is here in Socal (at all the stores) and I wanted to a little more attention put into mine. Eventually I found Dave Cape and DCCustom Golf. He took the specs from my fitting, quoted me a very reasonable price, and completely rebuilt my irons. I'm fresh off taking those old/new clubs to the range for the first time and I have to say that they are basically completely different clubs. Its wild. It was very fun comparing the numbers from old to new with my budget launch monitor (SC200+) They're heavier so my swing speed has dropped a bit (1-2 MPH), but because I intuitively have a great feel for where the head is I'm making much better contact and getting slightly more (5ish maybe?) yards carry. Smash factor is markedly different 1.33 average before with the 6I to 1.39 today. I know its just one session but it does feel like this is going to really help. If nothing else I already feel like I have more confidence with these because I'm not losing the head location in my downswing. It doesn't feel like it will take me long to get dialed with these. I've also made a point to put a lot more time into my short game, spending significant time chipping from different ranges, and doing putting drills from 3, 6, 9 ft and also practicing my lag putting. I'm also going to search out a good instructor. I feel like its time and if I want to get to single digits I can't just shoestring this together anymore. We'll see if this pays dividends, but for the first time in a while I feel like I might be headed in the right direction. Hopefully my next round shows some of that. I'm tempering expectations, I don't expect to go low immediately, but I'm hoping that I might pickup one or two strokes from where I've been living lately (86-92). Even if the score doesn't bear it out success will be hitting a couple better approach shots, chips shots, and not missing short putts. Wish me luck. TLDR Cliff Notes: -- Never Taken Lessons -- Having dispersion problems -- Making adjustments to swing -- Scoring Regression -- Frustration -- Still having dispersion problems -- Realizing that for perhaps the first time in history, equipment might actually be the problem -- Getting Fitted -- Not wanting to go bankrupt buying new fitted clubs -- Getting my current irons rebuilt to spec -- Optimism -- Going to find a coach to actually take some lessons -- Working on short game -- Tempered expectations

... Yup, I think we all prefer the GOOD stupid bogies. ... I play with some higher index Asian guys and 2 of them bought PXG. Said it was a complete waste of money and they shoulda used the $ for lessons. One sold his and is back in TaylorMade M4 irons. The other said it doesn't matter what irons he plays because he either hits it well or very poorly so he is keeping his. I get so sick of hearing that obnoxious loudmouth during every TV telecast, even LPGA events. And I am not talking about the Bob Parsons (everything I hear and read says he is a good guy) but his LOUD commercial persona that to me at least represents everything I dislike about modern golf from driving carts onto the fringe, playing music at a level the entire course can hear, drinking to excess, can't be b bothered to rapier divots or ball marks and playing at their own pass ... s-l-o-w.

  42. Hit some pitches today. Wow. Talk about a complete opposite. They both are really soft, softer than the AVX. Makes me think this could be a replacement for it? But the covers are similar to the V1 and V1x. The 3 is a fun ball, as a high ball flight guy, seeing a flatish trajectory is amazing, hoping that it is the Left dot. 30-65 yards with the new 54°. 37 yards, yeah, weird number but it’s where I dropped the ball. The one in the back here is an AVX, the pitch mark closest to the furtherest right ball is from that shot, carried it a bit further than the rest. 65ish, the 2 way in the back are the AVX’s no check compared to the 4’s, which are the two front ones, the 3’s are the middle of the group. But it is possible that I carried them a bit further like on the 37 yard pitches. #3 launched super low, like low low. And felt like a Balata, it is quite pleasing. compared to the AVX, this thing is lower launching. Even on the 7 iron that I hit. #4 launched a bit higher, but had more check. Same with the 7 iron. #3 from 120 with the 54°, stopped right near the pitch mark. Yes, I repaired the pitch mark. And about 50 others today.

  44. It would be fun to play simulated courses (obviously this is not golf but not a video game either, somewhere in the middle) and might get me swinging a club a bit more often. To me it is much more fun than just hitting into a net but obviously not as helpful as hitting out onto a range with a Trackman. However, it seems like, anecdotally, the few people I know that have LMs don't really find themselves dramatically improving. There is just something to playing golf which makes you better in a way that playing golf swing doesn't. Especially if you are trying to move from like a 3HDCP to a scratch. If you know that the launch monitor is about 3% off (I have no idea if that is the variance, just for sake of argument) that's like 5 yards on a 7 iron carry and 6.5 yards on a hybrid. Now, for precise gapping that isn't perfect but if the LM is accurate at ball flight and start line, that is useful. So if a flushed 7 iron could go say 160 or 170 (5 yards either way) that's okay as long as I can trust that a hooked shot on the monitor is actually a hooked shot in reality and that it can pick up a block, etc. I can feel when I hit it out on the toe or heel (or could use footspray) but I can't always feel when I blocked or pulled it. Or if my path is getting too much one way or the other. For gapping, I think the ideal thing is to be able to get on a Trackman or GCQuad every few months and maybe bring your LM along to see the differences. You'll have accurate data from the Trackman that you can base averages off of and also track your variance level with your less accurate LM. I'm still not sold on getting one but if it can tell me where I am hitting the ball and the flight path, that's quite useful to me...especially in the winter or if I am working on something with my coach (I'm always working on something). As someone who actually likes to practice BUT has 2 kids under 3, my wife is not letting me go to the range twice a week. If I had something decent in the garage that I could use after my nightly chores, that is compelling.

    Happy thread

Looking forward to it. Probably spend 3 days in the Halifax area, checking out the sights. Then the other 3 up near Cabot.

  47. Damn! I had not heard about this. We have a Bushnell account too at the course. I have a sorry feeling this is going to be the scene in my office when more info on it is available.
