It’s hard to believe that is has been 20 years already. I was in 7th grade then and now I’m working for a career fire department. I think a lot of people my age saw what everyone did that day and it had some influence on them to want to be a fireman, police officer, or for many join the military.

I worked but that far from the pentagon and our command had 11 staff members that were located in the d ring where the plane struck and we lost 8 of them including a good friend of mine. Even though it’s been 20 years I remember every detail of that day from the coverage of the first plane until I went to bed that night. The next 3 days were hard not being able to get back into my building to help get things up and running for the rest of our staff that were in another section that we relocated to our building

I was on my way to another town to fix a water main leak as a young 21 year old punk. I never thought anything like that was possible. I didn’t enlist because of it but I did join my small towns volunteer fire department. It was also a slap in the face realization of the evil in this world and created a greater appreciation for those that have served and continue to serve to protect our freedoms as well as those that at a drop of a hat , will stop what they are doing to help others even at great person risk to themselves.

I was in 8th grade English class when I heard. At that time military was not on my mind but definitely played a part later in my decision to join. Amazes me that the kids in high school now were not alive for it and learning it in history class. Curious about other counties if they take American history like we take European history in school, are they learning about it as well?

My son was also a 7th grader who went on to enlist in the Navy when he was 29. No doubt 9/11 played a huge part in that choice. Thsnks for your service as a firefighter

I was managing a hotel 2 miles from the Pentagon, just across the River in DC. We had a hotel full of DOD staff attending a meeting. Their phones were going off like alarm bells. It was an unbelievably crazy and scary day to be in DC. There were so many (fortunately)what turned out to be incorrect reports of The Capitol and State Departments having been hit as well. The following day were really crazy as well as no one could really get in or out of the city in any public transportation. So much of our guests were “stuck” in the hotel.

After being rained out both Tiesday(11 holes) and Thursday (15 holes), we had an overcast day with no rain. My best round since moving my membership from Pebble Creek(R.I.P.) to Plantation Palms, I shot a 41/43:84 today with an Eagle on the Par 5 #9, followed by a birdie on Par 4 #15. The Eagle came from a good drive, followed by a setup 5 wood, then a 63 yard 58* shot that landed just right of the pin then rolled around and down into the hole for the Eagle. Also of importance was a Hole in One by one of the other players(we had 36 today) which was celebrated in the Pub. My strokes gained was impressive today as compared to other 15 hcaps. We had a shotgun start at 8:00 then a foghorn sounded at 9:11 so we could all stop and share in a moment of silence, honoring those who died on 9/11/2001.

  11. Realized I hadn't checked back into this thread since getting a lesson where we focused on driver for a bit. I've been hitting the driver a lot better recently and the AF/Epic Max LS combo has been holding up really, really well. I've hit more 300+ drives in the past few weeks than I have in the past couple of years combined. Couple of good ones from today: My Arccos "Smart Distance" has increased to 293 yards over my last 10 rounds. Absolutely incredible. I don't think I'll be tempted to try anything else for quite a while.

i was in 7th grade shop class when the announcement came over the loudspeaker. i stood up and walked straight home. my dad was working not too far from the WTC back then. i don’t know what i thought i could do for him from home, but i knew i couldn’t do anything stuck at school. we couldn’t reach him because cell phones were down everywhere. he showed up at home about 2 hours later with him and his motorcycle covered in ash. what a terrible day.

I was working as a printing press operator and I remember my supervisor at the time coming into the break area and telling us that his wife had called saying a plane had hit the WTC. We were all saddened initially as we thought it was an accident, then soon after the second plane hit. They let us off work to go be with our families and I distinctly remember the feeling of shock and uncertainty as to what was happening. It's strange to think there are young adults now that don't have the vivid memories of that day. I applaud all those who either joined the military, the fire department, or police force after the attack. You all are real heroes.

  17. I had a Cleveland Smart Sole sand wedge for bunkers, and used that until I was confident with a normal sand wedge out of the bunkers. Think the chipper should stay in the bag for a while though, I have too many chip and two putts. Need more chip and one putts. Even if it goes out of the bag, will save it for when I play at Bandon. Yes it is. But I am going to modify it. Going to put in a graphite putter shaft in it, either a Fujikura or Accra, still deciding which. And then going to put on a Jumbomax grip. Would love if I could put a putter grip on it, but that wouldn't be legal.

Spent the last two days in Seattle; funeral for my brother-in-law's wife. Lots of people I don't know or may have met once somewhere. My wife has a big family and many are at that age now. BTW, I really don't like Seattle traffic!!!

  19. I like to occasionally take my higher lofted wedges and try to hit some short controlled chips. The kind of shots that require a delicate touch but still need you to swing through the ball. For me, I think more about hitting the sole of the club into the ground and through the ball on these ones.

    How'd you play?

First round (and first time swinging a club) in 3 weeks due local courses aerating, rains, flooding and me having a hell of a cold Decided to take my usual set out and not use Arccos. Played surprisingly well given that I had some rust to knock off Shot +6 78 with two double bogeys from lost balls off the tee. Other than those two swing I played really well. Struck my irons about as good as I ever have. The workout program and swing speed training I’ve been doing has given me about a half a club more distance with the irons which was great to see. Burned a bunch of lips on some short birdie putts but did get two to fall

Old golf pencils are great when you have to mark wood to cut. You guys probably already know this, but I just had to mention it. The wife wants shelving in the bathroom for her plants. Now just have to stain it.

  25. The course I play the most has a bell you ring after your second shot to alert those on the tee that it's clear for them to tee off on a very hilly hole. Another semi-private I play a few times a year actually has a periscope on one of the holes that you can use to determine when to hit. Kind of neat, and a little ingenious.

  28. Honestly I think it’s more impressive that you haven’t already ordered one in the past. My dad uses one of the square strike wedges and loves it. I think it’s definitely more useful around the green or if there’s green to work with, but he swears by it.

  29. I recently swapped out my entire bag lol. Replaced some old wedges and got a 50 and 54 Sm8 to go with my 58 Sm8. Swapped out my old TM R9 TP 3w to a TM Sim Ti 3w. Had some Apex Pro 2019 irons I bought end of last year that I finally started playing. Thought I needed them bent but didn’t. They’re replacing my 2007 X-forged irons. Replaced a TM 3 hybrid with a Titleist Tsi2 18* hybrid. Replaced an old Scotty Studio 3.5 putter with an Odyssey Ten S. Then said what the heck and bought a Cobra Radspeed to replace a Callaway Rogue Subzero. The two best swaps were the putter and 3w. I couldn’t line up my Scotty to save my life. The 3w is a little longer but also has a stiffer shaft and I no longer hit pulls like I used to. The driver was the worst decision lol. I might sell it

  30. Will do. He was quite happy with the results. Back on topic: I play all over the section. Both public and Private. Most of my rounds are tournament rounds at this point. When I do get out on my own course (Semi-Private), I am typically working on shots or practicing short game situations or playing with membership. I suppose that there is a good fit out there for every player. It is really about finding a place that you have an enjoyable experience each time you tee it up. I don't mean shooting a career low each day, but being able to enjoy your time on the links.

  31. I am a little different than most of you. I belonged to private club while working, now retired, I play mostly clubs that have season passes for members of that course as well as general public courses. Here in Vegas, I also word one day a week as a marshall at a public course and one day a week at a semi-private--passholder course. So I am on a golf course 7 days a week. I have a lot of fun doing it this way and I also receive very good benefits for me and my friends where I work. I pay $3400 a year for my pass to play at one course 5 days a week and get in at least 3 days of golf a week year around there. I play the courses I work at once a week for free and my guests get discounted rates...$50 less than local residents pay usually. So every week I get to play a links style course, a desert style course and a more traditional course with tree lined fairways. For those who were complaining about pace of play, I worked as a favor to another marshall today and kept the pace at 4:30 all day. I had a group fall 15 minutes behind before I got there at 7:00 this morning and in 6 holes had them back ahead of pace--they finished in 4:20. Slowest round of the day was 4:35. We have more out of town play at this time of year and will through thanksgiving but pace of play will be kept very close to 4:30. Tomorrow a regular work day for me, I will be off and playing at 6:20 first off. We will play in less than 4 hours and let everyone try to catch us. One last note--today we had 174 players and tomorrow we have 186. I told the other gentleman that I would check with him before I leave tomorrow to see if he needs help--if so, I will work one 9 and he will work the other 9.

Seniors stroke play today. I hit my driver well, but struggled with hitting the greens. A poor putting day (34 putts) coupled with missing the greens too often led to a disappointing 82.

  34. Well been scanning around for something other than driver to try and hit off the tee, eg. maybe something like a 2H or a deep-face 3W. Looking at the shafts available and finally my old, slow brain started to fire up: "dude why not just get a shaft you like to fit onto the old Bertha Mini??" OK. So start looking around for a Recoil 460 ESX, as this is what's in the 4H and 5H and I like it, and ended up on GolfWorks and looking at the Maltby MPF shaft guide (shoutout to @BIG STU for having written about that!) .. it gave me 3B3M .. looked at shafts in that profile and found ... UST ProForce V2 HL Bought the R/50g on PGATSS as I have both a coupon and a gift card for there. Headed over there later to get it trimmed, tipped and gripped!

  35. I am kind of a putter junkie and heard about some unique Odyssey putters that were available. Picked up this Odyssey RSX Milled Collection #2. Can't find much history or info as this model was never a retail release. Putter is naked and Anser 2 style and not the Anser style like the RSX 001. Have also seen pictures of 001s with no sightlines, #7 style without line or dots on the topline, and different color Toulon.

  37. My regular playing partner has a smooth swing, tempo and transition and loves his Evenflow. I have a more aggressive swing amd quicker transition and played the HZDRUS for several years. We have tried each others drivers and both hate the other shaft. I snap hook the Evenflow and he hits the HZRDUS right every time.

Just an update with my new 699 pros's. 4 rounds in still figuring out distances, I say this since these clubs are more reliable or should say less of guess with yardage, more accurate depending on my swing of course. I am absolutely making better shots. Shot my lowest round in about 2 years (86) at Gearhart Links from the black tees. Also have dropped my handicap a full point. I really don't care about the handicap as I am fun hitting these clubs and learning what I can do with the clubs. I am having a harder time hitting a draw and actually have more of a fade. I have for years been a draw guy so I just need to get used to the ball flight. So far I am liking the decision to purchase these clubs.

  40. Spent 2 hours on the range today - I’m anxious to get my feedback from my last video that I sent in. I know there’s more to be done to get the right elbow in order. Still I hit lots of good wedge and 9 iron shots. Drove it fine also. From there I went to 2 problem spots of late - 9 wood and penultimate wedge - mixed results with 9 wood - clearly better with full shots with the SCOR 56 than the Edison 54 - so the SCOR is back in - I’ve still got the Edison 59 in.

  41. First thought based on that list is putter. serious answer is we can answer that without more information. The clubs on your bag are there to hit specific distances. It could be possible that you need fewer clubs based on gapping. Give us a list with carry distances for each club and how well you cover distances that are less than your 56

  43. Just put in a new set of irons. I really have been enjoying the Corey Paul wedges that I put into play last year. After looking for some possible replacements for my Titleist AP3 irons earlier this year I stumbled across a couple sets of Corey Paul cavity back irons on Ebay a while back. I played around with them a couple of months ago but wasn’t ready to put them in the bag. After changing grips on one of the sets and adjusting the lofts and lie angles I decided to try them again. After three rounds I’m looking forward to more. The shafts are KBS $-taper 120 gram stiff in the dark finish.
