Love MGS, but it’s foolish and irresponsible to make a blanket statement that all club fittings should be free I made it through less than half of the podcast before I had to shut it off. Kudos to Ryan for trying to explain his point thoughtfully. I wish I could say the same for the MGS side of things And a big eye roll to the Free Fitting T-shirt tweet sent out. You simply sound like an angry get off my lawn type of person that does not respect a large portion of the golfing world. People who walk also bring coolers or outside beverages to the course, smoke cigars, and contribute to pace of play issues. It seems to be a huge problem in your eyes but mark be not to others. Some courses only allow walking at certain times or prohibit walking due to the course layout. You can always play at a different course or time if you really want to walk. I don’t know what post got “cancelled” but you don’t seem up for a discussion on the topic so you were probably very my way or the highway in any response you would have made.6 points

So i didn't buy this, but just something i found when cleaning out the closet. Didn't think i would ever describe a putter looking like a butter knife, but this does. I hit some putts with this and this putter sucks. It feels absolutely terrible. Feels like i'm putting with rocks instead of golf balls.4 points -
Have stand bag and 2 wedges from Sub70 golf and love them all. You can demo their clubs before buying them which is a great idea. Before spending several hundred dollars on a driver or set of irons you can try them out. Might have to demo a driver next spring myself. I also like that you can customize your shafts and grips. Definitely worth a look into Sub70 golf.4 points

Had an excellent Halloween Sunday playing at an Arnold Palmer course (par 70) I had never seen before but has been putting in a lot of rehab work and was in great shape. Truly a tale of two 9s but the back 9 was easily the best scoring 9 holes I have ever played. I had just put my Seemore FGP back in the bag and was just going out to put a good stroke on the ball (I have been practicing putting on my Blast Motion most nights for the last week). Other than the 7 I posted on number 3 (hit my first drive OB and my re-teed second drive (3rd shot) into the face of a fairway bunker, the whole day went rather smoothly. I think this might be my ceiling for how well I can play and it has me buzzing (for now...)!4 points -
No, they shouldn’t, and we all donate to help MGS cover the costs of all the equipment needed for Most Wanted testing, so MGS KNOWS the cost of doing business to have enough clubs and shafts for everyone. Seems a little hypocritical. A fitter spends $20,000 right away on a new Trackman, then thousands and thousands more on shafts and club heads. Add-in rent, taxes, incomes, utilities, insurance, etc and it’s a ridiculous amount of money, and it’s not a ONE-TIME expenditure. You gotta get each new shaft, head, etc. You pay for the knowledge and expertise of a fitter. I really think it all just might be clickbait, to be honest… Riles-up folks. Gets people yapping. Most Wanted sure isn’t FREE!!!3 points

It was 40 degrees and breezy when we teed off for our final league night of the year. A few snow flurries along the way, but we were dressed for it. Played bogey golf for the 9 holes, nothing too awful and nothing too great, but considering how many layers I had on, I felt like the little brother in A Christmas Story. No one else was on the course so when we finished 9, we were going to play 10 then 18 and be done. I hit a nice drive on 10 but pulled it a bit and had tree trouble. Punched a 9 iron that ended up about 15 feet past the hole and buried the birdie putt. Decided right then to quit while I was ahead. It's nice to finish the season on a high note.3 points -

I think fittings should be free, or at least highly discounted (>50%) IF the person buys a club. If I'm dropping $500+ on a Driver, or $1200+ on irons, that should save me roughly whatever a fitting will cost. FWIW the one fitting I've done was discounted almost to nothing because I bought the recommended driver that day. There are good places out here that already do this.3 points -

I took a course a couple years back to get my bartending license here in NC and that's when I learned that it's a violation of state law to bring alcohol of any kind onto a golf course. AND it's the course that gets punished for a violation and not the golfer. So when I (hypothetically, of course) bring my cooler full of Ultras and a couple airline bottles of birdie juice, the course could lose their license to serve. I asked the head pro about it and he said, "hell, I don't care. Nobody's coming out here checking on that $h#*." In terms of what's germane to the thread, the only things I truly care about: play in less than 5 hours and/or let me play through don't hit into me either don't restrict walking times or include the cart fee in the price or charge me a cart fee and let me walk anyways (I get you want to make money. I'm not mad about it. I just prefer to walk. And yeah, I get pretty salty when they say, "you can't walk bEcAuSe pAcE-oF-pLaY.")3 points -

I don't smoke but don't mind riding in the cart (gasp!!) of a cigar smoker since it does help keep the bugs away. Does this mean we shouldn't be doing fireball shots for birdies?? I have rode a higher % this year than ever because our membership includes a cart and I am usually getting out late afternoon or evening and it allows me to play faster and jump around a sparsely populated course to get in as many holes as possible.3 points -

To me, the OG Stability is like putting with rebar and a putter head. What I notice most about the LAGP is that it distinguishes center contact vs. non-center contact well, but remains stable regardless.. I don't mean that mishits feel bad, but i think you will notice what i am talking about when you try it out.3 points

Feel is a personal thing and will vary by user. In my experience the smoke black is going to feel boardy especially if you like the smoke green. The smoke green is a counterbalanced design whereas the smoke black isnt. the m5 is a low spinning head and with the black the spin isn’t going to go up in general and compared to the m4 it’s going to be lower spin. Theres no guarantee that an aftermarket premium shaft will perform better or not especially if you just choose to randomly buy one. Also the smoke green and black aren’t made for shafts and are premium quality, they are just made in large quantities and pretty much every brand carried them as a stock offering. Only the small batch tx shafts in the green and black are the non stock upgrade options. Swing speed is a small piece of the puzzle, two different swings at the same swing speed will produce different results. Quick transition will have different launch characteristics than a smooth transition at the same swing speed. For the most part anyone here saying x shaft over y shaft or try z shaft is going to be guessing on what would work for another golfer. Do you have any launch monitor numbers with your current setup?3 points -

... I had been fit as well as fitting myself over the years and knew exactly what worked for me. Mizuno wanted me to do a review of their new MP59's and wanted me to go through a fitting with one of their reps before building and sending me the clubs. First thing he did was have me take 3 swings with the optimizer and it came back with a first choice of: KB Tour S-Flex, 1/2" long and soft stepped once. The is exactly what I was playing in my MP63's. I was very impressed. Interesting to me, I had the same numbers as Luke Donald, just a little slower swing speed. The rep had me hit balls to make sure the trajectory and spin were where we needed them to be and they were, so all good. As others have said, it is a great place to start as it shows how you swing not so much how fast you swing.3 points -

Top 3 Best/Favorite Holes of 2021 One of my favorite things to do each year is to pick my favorite holes from the season. As I've added more rounds each year I've done this, it has become a lot harder! #3 - Birdie, Oct. 9, Hole No. 8, Diamond Springs Golf Course I got to play with @ncwoz at one of my favorite courses I've ever been on. The fairway on this par 5 is massive, so standing on the tee I just told myself to let loose and accelerate through the ball. I ended up lacing my 5 iron shot into the back bunker behind the green, but hit my best sand shot of the season. The ball splashed out and ran down the sloped green to about five feet. I hit the birdie putt. #2 - Driving the Green, Sept. 18, Hole No. 13, Western Greens Country Club The Arccos image is actually from the week before when I came up just short of the green. Unfortunately, the day I did this Arcoss was not working correctly. I absolutely middled one, and combined with my Rypstick work that I did at the end of the season, I successfully drove over the green for the first time in my life. I figure it was close to 320 yards, on a slightly wet and flat hole. (Image for proof!) #1 - Eagle from the fairway, July 15, Hole No. 16, Western Greens Country Club Long story short - I hit a bad drive that got knocked down by trees a long ways from the green. I hit a knockdown 6 iron up a hill to a blind green. When I got up to the green I found my ball in the hole! This may be even better than getting a hole in one. The eagle also saved my round and led to a solid 78.2 points

We are a country that expects a deal or a discount on everything we buy. "Where's my discount, my senior discount, my military discount, my coupon expired yesterday but I want to buy it today." Hard pass for me. I paid for two fittings this summer and it was money well spent. The shop space, launch monitor, inventory and most importantly, the PEOPLE spending their time and expertise with me was worth every penny. If I choose to not purchase a club, the shop is still being reimbursed for THEIR time.2 points

Should Fittings be Free?
Bob Pegram and one other reacted to ChitownM2 for a topic
I see both sides of this argument. I agree with Adam that you should be able to go in and get a COMPETENT free fitting. That is something that is sorely lacking in the industry. When I go into a PGATSS or a Golf Galaxy and ask to hit a club, the guy helping me is usually clueless. He's just throwing me different options based on what I ask for or just trying random things without any real basis. On the other hand, I also think that if you want to go and get a TXG level fitting with hundreds of aftermarket shaft options then you are going to have to pay for that. The inventory needed to do elite level fitting costs a lot of money and essentially never ends as new equipment is always being released. The return on investment just isn't going to be there based on selling clubs/equipment alone. There needs to be some kind of happy medium where I can go and get a brand agnostic fitting from a competent fitter using the stock options that the manufacturer's supply in their fitting carts. I'd also settle for paying up front for that and having the cost deducted from the purchase price of whatever equipment I buy. TXG's business model is not based entirely on selling clubs, it's based on selling fittings so Adam's argument that they would make more money doesn't necessarily hold up. At some point, the quality of fitting I would get from TXG if they expanded in size to meet the demand of free fittings would be the same as what I get at PGATSS, which is crap. There just simply aren't enough elite club fitters to do what Adam is proposing and it will never be feasible to solve all of the "industry" problems Adam describes. He's talking about a perfect world scenario where there are enough competent people to do these fittings and that club sales support the salaries of all these fitters. It just doesn't work that way, last I checked there are tons of golf businesses that can't even afford to stay afloat giving away the crappy fittings from people who have no idea what they are doing much less hire a competent fitter for each of them. I'd like to know more about the retail scenario Adam described from his past where they were doing free fittings and saw a net increase in revenue. In the short term, I can see exactly how it would work out like he said, but in the long term, I just can't see it working. Once word gets around that you can go and get a free fitting from a real pro, I think they would get so overwhelmed it just wouldn't work.2 points -

One Length … not crazy yet
vandyland and one other reacted to Grasper Parsnip for a topic
I got my one length Wishon EQ1 NX irons on Sunday, so this morning I had planned a quick trip to the range to try them out. It was pouring with rain so I decided to just test the one length 5 iron agaist my own 5 iron and the one length PW, in between showers. I was amazed as firstly I had not hit a golf club for over 3 years until 2 weeks ago I had 1 hour on trackman with an 8 iron to check my swing speed I hit these One length irons very well right out of the gate and the one length 5 iron out performed my normal length 5 iron. I struggled to find the centre of my own 5 iron but I pured a few for the test purposes. The Wishon one length was more forgiving than my own 5 iro and I found it much easier to hit the centre of the club, the height of the ball flight from one length iron was not noticeably different than from the height of my variable length 5 iron and the distance was at least the same maybe 5 yards longer carry. The PW was very easy to hit too, my concern was would the longer shaft in the PW seem odd but it didnt. The ball flew a bit higher with the PW one length than with my own variable length PW but if aything the 1 length PW went a little further too. These are great clubs and it wil be great fun playing them, although with these irons you would normally hit the ball from the same position as you would an 8 iron for every club, 5 to SW, you can move the ball back for a lower flight or forward for a higher flight and you can still grip down to change ball flight too, so it will be fun experimentig with them. I am going to book the trackman for 1 hour to dial these irons in and to check the distance gapping, I am very happty with the quality and the look of these clubs and anyone considering One length Irons. I would certainly recommend these Tom Wishon WQ1 NX irons as all being the same weight and having the same lie angles and all being made to the same swingweight, it makes it easier for practice purposes as if you can hit one club, then you can hit them all.2 points -

What/How Did You Practice Today?
mikeanthony and one other reacted to edingc for a topic
I did end up making it up to the heated range. Except they weren't heated yet and still only on the grass and not mats, and I actually had a beautiful morning for it. Mid 40s. I had about a bucket's worth of sun and then it went back to overcast. I hadn't taken a full swing in three weeks and it showed. Took me a while to get going, and my irons kind of picked up where they left off, hitting hooks and blocks. Tried to fix them and ended up getting too steep and starting hitting fades. By the end of the session I went back to feeling like I was trying to hit a draw and got things straightened out a bit. Having not swung much I pretty much exhausted myself after the first bucket so the second bucket was mostly short pitches and half swings with my 54 wedge. Surprisingly very crisp contact. Very happy with that. I didn't bring the AutoFlex/Epic Max LS combo with me because I assumed I'd be in the heated bays, which are too tight for a 46" driver. Instead, I brought my 44.5" 10.5 degree Cobra AMP Franken-driver, with a made-for-Callaway Project X LZ 5.5 shaft. Everything about this club is wrong for my swing, and combined with the freakishly poor range balls (no dimples, super high spin and high launch) I produced some really funny numbers on my Mevo+. My personal favorite: Admittedly, there is something to be said about a shorter driver and face control. Five of my first seven shots were right out of the center: I also was happy to see 112-114 on the Mevo+ with a shorter driver than usual. I have done zero speed training this month and instead have just been working in the gym trying to get stronger. So far, so good.2 points
