  1. Thanks, now I want a baked potato. I use SPF4 to get my handsome color. It works for most places I go. Yet another reason not to go to Arizona in the summer again. Just for the record I have graduated from an institute of higher learning. Magna Cum Laude class of............. wouldn't you like to know! GED...? Nice try!

    How'd you play?

Work has been killing me over the past month but I finally got out and played on Sunday. Only the third round on my new PXG irons but I’m really hitting them well. Ended up shooting 48 on the front with a couple of wayward drives and then really turned it around with a 41 on the back for a nice 89. good to see a score below 90 for a change. Hoping to be able to play a couple of rounds over the holiday weekend, weather here in Southeast Texas is absolutely perfect with temperatures in the mid 70s every day.

    How'd you play?

Another sub 80 round yesterday at Coyote Wash 42/36 (par 71). The front included a double and triple . On #7 I went for my usual layup to the open peninsula of the lake but popped it up and it bounced sideways and got washed. I then repeated the sin splashing that ball. We had two threesomes and played a 3 man version of El Lobo. Each player takes sequential turns off the tee as the wolf with the others playing wolf hunters. The wolf must win the whole outright to win the two dimes. We only paid out 4 times... it's tough to win that format. Sure hope I can keep this trend rolling. If I only use my 11 rounds since getting to AZ, I'm a 8.8 .

  6. ... I tried to be nice but your ignorance is showing. Again. SPF4?!?!? No wonder you got burnt so bad (figuratively and literally). The sun may be yellow but it ain't your friend when it gets above 100*. I know you are still working on your GED but ... SPF4 in Phoenix? In the summer?!?! You might as well slather yourself with butter, sour cream and chives.

  7. Got my turkey in the brine last night. For the last several years, my starting point has been Alton Brown's turkey recipe: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe-1950271 I basically follow all his instructions on the brine and the fruit/onion stuffing, but I've done our last several turkeys in our electric smoker. A couple months back, I added a pellet grill to the arsenal, so this year's turkey is going to be slow smoked on that. Are food preparations underway for you all as well? What are you making?

Wuss! We play all winter long, and if we didn't play in 46º with 8-10 mph... we wouldn't play all winter long!!

Tuesday early 9, 46* with 8-10 mph wind. Froze our butts off! Played poorly, in fact we all did. All iron shots felt like I was hitting marbles. Similar temps this morning so we are skipping golf and scheduled to play Friday Bacon Boyz.

    How'd you play?

Obviously Tony and Rick missed a very important feature in the picture - the cart path - there's that little part that sticks out to the right side of the fairway - I hit a ball down the right rough line with a touch of draw - it hit the cart path and took off.

  12. Ok it is odd in most folks eyes. It is just me and the Wife now and the 2 dogs. We never cook traditional Thanksgiving dinner because we do not care for Turkey. Got some beef tips marinating for Kabobs on the grill---- She also has some Crab meat ( fresh Local) pulled out for crab and cheese stuffed Mushrooms. And believe it or not we do like stuffing so she is going to do some with beef gravy too. And the old Green Bean Cassarole. Right now it is cold and windy here and she has a pot of Pinto beans in the slow cooker for tonight and fried cornbread. One year when her mother was still living I did a huge low country boil. As in life in general we do not do things the traditional way. She just told me we had more crab and cheese mix than big mushrooms so later I am going to split some Jalepenos and do crab cheese stuffed peppers bacon wrapped

  14. You should carry whatever you think is best for your game at courses you play. What anyone else chooses for their 14 clubs may/not relate to you. My choices are in the sig line, but no one else I play with has exactly the same makeup (all have more woods/hybrids than me), and that's fine and dandy. I don't like hybrids, but I force myself to carry and use one, maybe someday I'll warm up to them. I almost never use my 56º or my 60º full swing, I use my 50º GW from 95 yards and in - and in prior threads I've read that many other players also don't use their highest loft wedges full swing. FWIW

  16. Indoors at our local First Tee’s driving range - took the driver and a seven iron. Once warmed up I played a mini game in my head. Driver went X yards on a imaginary hole which would leave me Y to the green. Then I have to use the seven iron to hit the green. Keeps me from mindlessly hitting balls one after another. Besides trying to hit the distance, focus on good solid strikes.

  18. So, here's the gist. Just like the title says, I'm on the fence about dropping one of the woods and adding a wedge for 2022 as my gamer set up for the tournament season to avoid some situations that would've made a real difference when it really counted. Through lessons, a couple of performance fittings, and enough practice to shame Tiger I've dropped my index to 11.3 to end this season and I'm pretty proud of that with this being the end of my fourth full season playing. And here's the stats through the 47 rounds I played this year including tournaments via Arccos- Woods Epic Max LS OB Seeker- 498 total shots, 298 yards smart distance, 52% FIR Sim2 Max 3w- 19 total shots, 253 yards smart distance, 71% FIR off the tee (9 shots), 19% GIR (10 shots) Epic Max 5w- 18 total shots, 231 yards smart distance, 67% FIR off the tee (5 shots), 49% GIR (13 shots) Apex 21/Epic Speed Super 4h- 46 total shots, 234 yards smart distance, 87% FIR (17 shots), 55% GIR (29 shots) Apex 21 5i- 21 total shots, 211 yards smart range, 81% FIR (12 shots), 69% GIR (9 shots) Wedges Apex 21 PW (43*)- 97 total shots, 130 yards smart distance, 58% GIR Apex 21 AW (48*)- 111 total shots, 108 yards smart distance, 59% GIR Vokey SM8 54*- 223 total shots (including pitch/chips), 93 yards smart distance, 67% GIR Ping Forged 56*- 128 total shots (almost all chips/pitches inside 50 yards), 86 yards smart distance, 91% GIR (probably skewed by all of the chips/pitches) My initial thoughts are pulling me towards putting the 5w on the bench and adding another wedge to fill the gap between the PW/AW, or even adding a 58/60 to give me more options around the green. I had quite a few short game shots where the 56 was either too much, or not enough. I'm not very good at all at opening the face up to get the added height out of the greenside rough/pot bunker, and it usually ends in disaster when I try it on course. Then again, I've had quite a few shots this year where the approach was on the in-between side of the PW/AW. I've had bad luck with trying to swing lighter/slower and/or harder/faster with the wedges, nothing that got me in trouble on course, but not consistent enough to do it comfortably. So, the corners I've painted myself into is which wood to drop and which wedge to add. I will be doing some serious testing over the winter and moving forward, but I wanted to get everyone's take on their experiences with making this type of move for some insight. Appreciate it in advance. P.S.- Yes, I've already been fitted this season.......twice.....

The last station I was at was an old school house no joke and had a full commercial kitchen and boy did we cook some good food there for special events and training night suppers

  23. I think based on distances and consistency, you definitely drop the 5 wood and just mail it to me. As for the wedge, that depends on what you're more comfortable learning and what you expect to happen more next year. Do you think you can learn to be comfortable opening up your club face on the handful of occasions where you'll need a short flop and stop? Or do you think it would be more valuable for you to have a 120 yard club. Then again, since you have 20 yard gaps between your wedges, do you focus on reducing the overall gapping. E.g., bending the 43 degree to 44, bending the 48 to 47, swapping the 54 with a 52, and leaving the 56 (or swapping it with a 58 and filling the gaps below 100 with partial shots. Tldr: agree that 5 wood is out. As for the replacement, up to you.

    How'd you play?

No, you won't get around as quickly as you do now. I imagine that when you retire, some podunk driving range operator will draw a couple of black lines around you. It will be easy since most of your dimples will be worn away, but you will still be tormenting golfers of the beginning kind. With your aches and pains you won't fly as far as you used to, and your ball flight will be a double-breaker! Of course, on the other hand you could get lucky and end up refurbished, and we all know how well that turns out.

    Small/Mid Size SUV

So as mentioned previously I found myself in the market (at the worst possible time) for a new SUV. Well after a week of emailing, negotiating and testing a couple different ones. I took home a 2021 Highlander XLE Hybrid last night. So far I love it. But the question many of you wanted answer is, would it hold ALL of my golf bags if required. Well see for yourself. Here it is loaded up with two full stand bags snd a full cart bag. Still room for one more (I didn’t bring out my empty Titleist Light Weight bag. But it would have fit. And room for luggage if I was the chosen driver of a road trip! But since 95% of my driving is just me and occasionally if I take my clubs to an away course You see they fit nicely with the 3rd row seats up. I got 35 MPG on my trip into work this morning So I’m really looking forward to that savings.

Yellow Ball is not an instructor, YB is a destructor. Are you really sure you want my help? YB doesn't live up north. I have an allergic reaction to getting blue balls. Snow is a four letter word. YB isn't old enough to retire. I have to work a day job to afford all my trips to haunt you guys. So bear with me if I'm not quick on getting back to you. But then again, if I was retired I wouldn't get around as quickly as I do and would be complaining about all my aches and pains like the rest of you old farts!

  29. For my birthday a few weeks ago, my wife told me to get a new driver. She told me I could go to Club Champion if I wanted. I think I would rather go to the local PGA Superstore and hit everything they have. I'm a lefty, so that will narrow the field quite a bit. I did a truegolffit a few weeks ago, and it put me in a Wilson D9, with a TSI1 as the 2nd choice. I would also really like to tit the new Cleveland Launcher XL and the Exotics C721. And I'll see what else they have. I also have a brand new Evenflow Max shaft that hasn't even had a tip on it yet waiting for me to give it a shot. Needless to say, fun times ahead!

  30. Something showed up yesterday and they're not even for me.... SWMBO has a birthday coming up and after playing the best golf of her life this year she dropped her handicap to an 11. All the while complaining about the L shaft clubs in her G25's (went for lighter weight to help with ss). I found a set of G410's with SR shafts for her to try. About 1/2" longer too so we'll see how the adjustment turns out.

  32. Hello all, happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for playing along with this event. I wanted to let you know that I have made a small format change to this, mostly because you all are too smart. I will not be hitting the CSXLS in the next round, I will use 3 new untested balls. The CSXLS will be moving into the Semi-Finals. I will continue this testing process with 3 balls for 3 more rounds. Testing 12 total balls. That testing will find 4 group winners. I will then match those group winners up 1v1 in the semi finals, to get me to the final 2 balls to rule them all. Balls still to test: Maxfli Tour, Srixon Z-Star, TP5x, ProV1, Vice Pro, CSX, Velocity( @fixyurdivot), ....... 2x? So, to take my bias out a little more, Im going to add the 2 more suggested balls to the test. So whatever else you think I should test, let me know and I will take the 2 top suggestions and put them in too(assuming I can get them easily enough). Q-Star? ProV1x? Wilson Duo? Dunlop Power TI explosion mach V laser bomb? So 6 more rounds to crown a winner, fill out your brackets now, this might take the world by storm and replace March Madness as the best bracket contest out there. Also, I have a sleeve each of the losing BX and BXS to send out. If you would like either sleeve, chime in. I'll use some random wizardry to see who gets them.

  35. Welcome to the forums! Compete is an interesting choice of words - like others have already written a well hit shot is a well hit shot - I'm actually surprised to see a 46 degree PW from 2006 but regardless loft for loft, shaft length for shaft length a well hit shot is a well hit shot - there won't be much difference - but golf, at least the scoring part of golf is all about the less than perfect strikes. So if by compete you mean that you are going to go out and play against other golfers with irons that are 15 years old I'd think not. If by compete you mean can you get back into playing with them and have fun - of course - I'm sure they will perform just fine. Enjoy

    anyone carry 5 wedges?

Right??? The pro they brought in for the vid said the same thing, where he teaches it to pros and lower handicappers and they're like "this is too easy." Really? You're complaining that golf is too easy? Sign me up for only 3 swings to give me full, repeatable and accurate gapping from 130 (my full PW) in. Hell, I'll even take the pros advice and write the matrix on an index card to make it even more mechanical and easy when I'm on the course.

    anyone carry 5 wedges?

As club manufacturers continue to deloft irons, just wait and one day we'll all be carrying 9 wedges. At that point the 9 iron will have a 21º loft, and old timers will claim they can't hit a "9 iron" and opt for a hybrid instead. [Sorry, couldn't resist...] And for those who scoff, no one carried more than 2 wedges at one time, a PW and a SW. Now we're debating 3, 4 or 5 wedges. And now we have a new class of clubs - utility irons. More marketing nonsense...instead of offering 2 and 3 irons with iron sets, we get to buy another class of club if we want long irons. Where we once had wood sets, iron sets and putters - we now have drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, utility irons, iron sets, specialty wedges and putters. Some progress, lots of marketing hype?
