  2. I have done very little in the way of practicing over the last while, but I'm going to pull out the puttout the next few evenings and see if I can track some putting stats with it. I really enjoyed this training aid even though it is extremely frustrating at times. With cold temperatures officially here it is unlikely that I'll be doing any outdoor practicing from now until spring even though technically courses are open.

  7. Ordered 2 dozen of these tonight with the free holiday shipping, they have been out of the optic yellow I still have a couple dozen of the TP5 Pix. I will alternate them to see which is the gamer. I had played Snell for about 3 years and still feel that I favor them to the Pix but nothing compares to head to head.

  8. I've been putting horribly the last few months but haven't had the motivation to make the time to work on it. Yesterday a couple family youngsters stopped by for a visit and they headed to the putting green to keep from getting bored. I joined in and while messing around had the one kid video my stroke with my phone. I figured out I had my shoulders waaaay open in set up and that had my stroke all messed up trying to keep it aligned with the putting line...an out to in to out stroke path. Squared up my shoulders which got my stroke more in line with the line of the putt and things got better quickly. Makes me mad at myself I didn't take a couple videos a couple months ago....would have saved a good bit of frustration.

  10. Something showed up yesterday and they're not even for me.... SWMBO has a birthday coming up and after playing the best golf of her life this year she dropped her handicap to an 11. All the while complaining about the L shaft clubs in her G25's (went for lighter weight to help with ss). I found a set of G410's with SR shafts for her to try. About 1/2" longer too so we'll see how the adjustment turns out.

  16. Heck last week it was sorta cold starting off in the Shootout--- I was going to switch to the Srixon Soft Feels. Problem was I had taken the white ones out of the car and only had a dozen green ones. Played those or actually the one. Played it for 18 holes. Caught he double hockey sticks from my partners.

  23. First session in 2+ weeks coming off a back strain from a deadlift mishap. Tied my all time high for ball speed which was on a warm summer day while my garage was around freezing today. (I keep my balls room temp though.) I think rolling the dice on a AD-DI shaft could yield some gains. Although the last time I hit 158mph ball speed my same monitor gave me 281 carry… still a good way to start off-season speed training

  24. I was informed today of Srixon coming out with a Z-Star Diamond ball later this year that will always curve towards the center of the fairway and the alignment line on it automatically adjusts for the break on the green to guide you in every time. Which will have to compete with the Wilson Triad(?) I also heard is coming out with self cleaning technology. * the above balls are something I did hear about, the abilities I entirely made up.

    How'd you play?

Shot 77 (39/38) at a course just outside Vicksburg, MS, called Clear Creek. It’s in a tiny little town, but it’s a fun course that is difficult to hit driver on due to very narrow fairways that are lined by oak trees! Decade’s 60 yard wide target does NOT apply anywhere on this course. Wind was blowing at about 15, so it made it even tougher to hit drives. Tabletop greens, so when I missed them I had short chips to the hole. Only hit 8 fairways and 7 greens, but had just 29 putts… Sky was clear, temp hit the 70s, so I had an enjoyable day.

    How'd you play?

Several years ago at our old course, our pro held a "backwards" scramble tournament; put tee markers by the greens and played the course backwards. That was interesting. To hit from the #2 green to the #1 green he had to put the tees in the driving range and hit over a road. The road turned 90º and ran parallel between the #1 and #2 holes. The distance to the green was about 260y (if I remember correctly) to the elevated #1 green. My wife teed off pulling her shot (maybe on purpose?); hit the road, bounced many times, and then off the road next to the green... pin high! Her longest drive ever!!

  28. I was getting a little stir crazy today and thought I'd run by the range and see if it was open. My mid range wedge game cost me in my last round and I felt like practicing it a little bit. I happened to get there about an hour before they closed, picked up a large bucket, and got to work. I realized my biggest problem was I wasn't accelerating through on the short shots. I started out picking targets and running through all my wedges and hitting to them. I moved on to full swing monitoring contact with foot spray and found out I'm hitting fairly consistent, just favoring the toe a bit PW 7 iron I'm still working on feeling like I'm throwing a frisbee with my left arm working on weight shift and when I get it right, I'm seeing improvement in consistency. I was even hitting good shots with my 5 wood. I had one where I fell into old swing habits and hit a dud. I hit some drivers after that. I moved on to simulated holes just to get the feel of switching clubs between shots and had to even pull out a 5 iron punch on the third because I was blocked out by a tree on the third hole. I played four holes this way and felt like I gave myself a good look at two putt bogeys on each one. My goal is to be playing bogey golf come spring and try to give myself an occasional shot at scores in the 80's. My confidence is starting to come back and it's nice to get out and hit some balls on such a beautiful day.

  30. Agree with the previous post where you don't have to get new ones of you don't want to. Another option could be to go to a local shop and bring your irons to hit side by side with some others. See some of the differences and maybe you'll have a answer if it is worth buying new to you irons. Another good thing to do is give s budget to whoever you're working with. This way you don't get any sticker shock. With all this being said there are lots of not too expensive good irons out there and any good shop or fitter should be able to find clubs you like that work within your budget.

  31. No reason to get new irons if you don't want to. Yes, technology has changed but doesn't mean you will hit your clubs any better. The general benefits of new technology is that the shafts bend profile may be better for your and that you may get more forgiveness on miss hits. You have made some other posts about playing better and your getting back into the game. Talk to your instructor about clubs and what he recommends.

  32. This is the first holiday season with just my wife and I. I've been driving through snow and ice in the Columbia River gorge for 53 years to see mom and dad. Now that they are gone, we are just staying home. I just put our turkey on the Grilla bbq/smoker an hour ago. Seasoned and stuffed with apple/onion/salt/pepper/garlic/cola mixture. Should be ready in 6-8 hours. We are cooking it today because we have a tee time at our sister course across the river Thursday morning with another couple. It's OK if we eat some of it for dinner tonight... right???

  33. Hey all, just to let you know the team at Shot Scope follow the user group closely and it is great feedback/discussion. I will chip in with answers to various questions as I can. Tag me, if you think I can shed some light. If there is an individual or account specific question best to get in touch with our support team, they are much quicker, smarter and will give better advice than I can.

  34. Hi, I just started playing again after almost 30 years. I have a relatively new driver (TaylorMade r7 quad), but my irons are over 40 years old. I regripped them but steel shafts and heads are original. I know a lot has changed in 40 years but what am I going to gain. As I haven't played much in the last 30 years, I am not that good. Now that I am retired I plan to play more often. What are the benefits of the new technology? If I can't replace the whole set at once, where do I begin? I don't have a fairway wood but have pretty much everything else. I bought a used 4 hybrid earlier this year just to have one in the bag. My putter is also 40 years old and I think I only paid $25 for it back in 1980. Thanks.

  37. After warming up on the range-- I basically do the same thing hit balls playing a imaginary golf round on my home course that I know well. When I go to the putting green after getting the feel some I basically putt out my round and chip when I remember I missed a green. Most people belt balls one right after the other on the range and I get some strange looks when they are resting etc. I guess it looks funny I hit a driver and assume I hooked it and have to make a knockdown low cut and then a wedge or hit the driver and go to the bag and pull like say a 6 iron. My practice time is limited now because of the physical restraints so I make the best of it. Before a round I may hit like 10 balls on the range with just a wedge to time myself up and get loose. If I can time my wedge up then I am ok so to speak. One of the reasons I hit whiffle balls in the yard with wedges mostly just keeping loose and timing it up

  39. Yep graphite shafts set up properly can be a game changer for us with bad backs--- Also the foam filled heads or heads like the ones I have with the polymer stuff help too on vibration. In the past I had done a lot of study on torsinional vibration especially engines with my racing background---- I broke my back in April of 2020--- Have permanant nerve damage now. Did the therapy and such also worked out with Drs approval with a swing trainer. Thought I was coming around but still had pain and stiffness after golf every time I played. I had some discussions with others on here and another site I frequent. Also had a discussion with a golf instructor friend of mine on the same subject of vibration. Talked to my neurosurgeon and he agreed about frequency vibration inflaming the nerves in my back. I was resistant to change having played steel shafted blade Macgregors all my golfing life---- About a month and a half now I hurt myself bad again not structually but nerve wise. I was going to give up the game period. I had been working with the TM irons in my signature for a year or so on and off. Never had actually played a round with them my instructor friend talked me into seriously giving it a try. He also told me about waiting on the shaft some compared to my steel shafted ones---- I finally put them into play in our weekly Shootout-- Played 18 with absolutely no pain and stiffness and no pain meds. The test was the next morning I had no pain or stiffness or what I called a hang over--- In fact unheard of for me in the past I played 9 holes Sunday afternoon--- Have about 8 rounds in now with no pain of stiffness--- Yep I was being resistant to change but had my back against the wall but it was change or quit alltogether---- Glad I changed and stayed in the game

For any of those interested send your offers! I may also consider a TE swap as part of the deal adding in Kittle. Happy trading everyone and wish all the best this week moving forward!

  44. I hope you both have a wonderful Thanksgiving and looking forward to playing again together next year. Bill, having played the Velocity I found the distance off the tee was very good, but it didn't do anything for me after that. Martha played in a charity tournament for the local VA a couple of months ago and was given a sleeve of Callaway Warbird 2.0 (not the original Warbird which has a soft core) with their logo on it... appropriate! I found this ball to be just as good, maybe better, off the tee as the Velocity and it surprisingly had decent spin around the green. Not PV1-like but it stopped much faster than any other 2-piece ball I've tried. What I liked most about it was that ball trajectory was much higher for my meager swing. Chris, if you want to give it a try, I'll mail you a sleeve; the 2.0 is somewhat difficult to find... around $18/dozen, but much higher at some places... like Amazon!!

  45. A set-up that would make Red-Green proud . I too recently began the journey into hobbyist club building. I picked up a used swing-weight scale, air compressor and grip nozzle, aluminum clubmakers scale, and shaft puller. Thus far, I've only completed my first set of re-grips using air only and it went just fine. While I'm in AZ for winter, I'll continue to peruse eBay and the local garage sales for some poor unsuspecting set of golf clubs . Lots of our spies are quite skookum on this and provide (as you're already finding out) great help/advice. Have fun and keep sharing the projects.

  46. Hello all, happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for playing along with this event. I wanted to let you know that I have made a small format change to this, mostly because you all are too smart. I will not be hitting the CSXLS in the next round, I will use 3 new untested balls. The CSXLS will be moving into the Semi-Finals. I will continue this testing process with 3 balls for 3 more rounds. Testing 12 total balls. That testing will find 4 group winners. I will then match those group winners up 1v1 in the semi finals, to get me to the final 2 balls to rule them all. Balls still to test: Maxfli Tour, Srixon Z-Star, TP5x, ProV1, Vice Pro, CSX, Velocity( @fixyurdivot), ....... 2x? So, to take my bias out a little more, Im going to add the 2 more suggested balls to the test. So whatever else you think I should test, let me know and I will take the 2 top suggestions and put them in too(assuming I can get them easily enough). Q-Star? ProV1x? Wilson Duo? Dunlop Power TI explosion mach V laser bomb? So 6 more rounds to crown a winner, fill out your brackets now, this might take the world by storm and replace March Madness as the best bracket contest out there. Also, I have a sleeve each of the losing BX and BXS to send out. If you would like either sleeve, chime in. I'll use some random wizardry to see who gets them.

    How'd you play?

Google Earth, GPS, yep, no doubt they’d all help, BUT, and I know you agree, we shouldn’t NEED those to hit a tee shot. Plus, I wasn’t walking back downhill 35 yards to the cart to go get my phone, then back uphill 35 yards. Nnnnnnope.

  49. Indoors at our local First Tee’s driving range - took the driver and a seven iron. Once warmed up I played a mini game in my head. Driver went X yards on a imaginary hole which would leave me Y to the green. Then I have to use the seven iron to hit the green. Keeps me from mindlessly hitting balls one after another. Besides trying to hit the distance, focus on good solid strikes.
