  1. We sat down for our Thanksgiving meal, and this was the view outside the dinning room window. I think they misunderstood the concept of a Turkey dinner.

  2. I can live with the toe hits better than being off the heel, I'd like to eliminate a couple of those suckers that were thin. They send shivers up my spine in the cooler weather, even hitting forgiving irons. My hands were about numb after a couple of them, but I guess working in the auto industry doesn't help with that.

    How'd you play?

Played golf today... or something somewhat similar... IDK. Our course was closed so my wife and I went with another couple to our sister course across the Columbia River that is managed by the same company. We get 50% any rate. The course had a 10am shotgun start, so the employees could all leave after we were finished. Nice!! I got talked into playing the White tees, which are similar to our Blue tees... only 300 yards longer!! Since both the husband and wife playing with us hit the ball further than I do, I think they thought a longer course would benefit them. They thought wrong; as bad as it was, my short game is better than theirs. I noticed today that the ball doesn't carry as far as it does when we play the course in the summer... duh! The grass in the fairways was a little longer than ours, and the ground was softer, so less roll. Shot 87 with two doubles and a lot of bogeys. I knew it was going to be a looong day... meaning I'm hitting long clubs all day long. Golf is not much fun when you only get to hit 5 irons all day. My 4W, 2H and 4H got a workout, along with many, many wedge shots. The grass on the greens is different than ours too. I had good speed control, but never the correct line. Tough day! I think my days of playing at 6300+ yards are over.

    How'd you play?

Shot 5 over 41 playing 9 this morning with my dad and brother. Very happy with that given the 37 degrees it was when we teed off. The cold helps me though, tend to shorten up the swing and club up which usually helps… maybe I should learn something from this

  6. I was getting a little stir crazy today and thought I'd run by the range and see if it was open. My mid range wedge game cost me in my last round and I felt like practicing it a little bit. I happened to get there about an hour before they closed, picked up a large bucket, and got to work. I realized my biggest problem was I wasn't accelerating through on the short shots. I started out picking targets and running through all my wedges and hitting to them. I moved on to full swing monitoring contact with foot spray and found out I'm hitting fairly consistent, just favoring the toe a bit PW 7 iron I'm still working on feeling like I'm throwing a frisbee with my left arm working on weight shift and when I get it right, I'm seeing improvement in consistency. I was even hitting good shots with my 5 wood. I had one where I fell into old swing habits and hit a dud. I hit some drivers after that. I moved on to simulated holes just to get the feel of switching clubs between shots and had to even pull out a 5 iron punch on the third because I was blocked out by a tree on the third hole. I played four holes this way and felt like I gave myself a good look at two putt bogeys on each one. My goal is to be playing bogey golf come spring and try to give myself an occasional shot at scores in the 80's. My confidence is starting to come back and it's nice to get out and hit some balls on such a beautiful day.

    Happy thread

I just want to take a moment and talk about being thankful for some of the people in my life. We're still waiting on my mother-in-law to come home from rehab, she's had a couple of setbacks with her MRSA and had to go back to the hospital twice. Hopefully, she's coming to stay with us around the first of December. One of the things we needed was to build her a wheelchair accessible ramp to be able to get her into the house. Well, one day I was talking to my buddy Jimmy at work. He mentioned it to his mother-in-law and she had some 2x6 boards she just gave us. He them mentioned it to his father-in-law who repairs mobile homes and he had just torn a ramp down and had some decking boards he gave us. My friend Ryan offered to help build the ramp, he builds houses and came over today in 34 degree weather and we worked on it. By we I mean he did the vast majority of planning and crafting of the frame and basically had me to fasten the deck boards, although it was a very good learning experience for this non handy guy. My feet are still frozen, but it was well worth it in order to be able to get my mother-in-law home after four months of bouncing between the hospital and rehab.

Driver has been a little fadey lately… why does something always have to be goofy? Then of course if you decide to play that little fade, then it goes straight as an arrow…

  11. For my birthday a few weeks ago, my wife told me to get a new driver. She told me I could go to Club Champion if I wanted. I think I would rather go to the local PGA Superstore and hit everything they have. I'm a lefty, so that will narrow the field quite a bit. I did a truegolffit a few weeks ago, and it put me in a Wilson D9, with a TSI1 as the 2nd choice. I would also really like to tit the new Cleveland Launcher XL and the Exotics C721. And I'll see what else they have. I also have a brand new Evenflow Max shaft that hasn't even had a tip on it yet waiting for me to give it a shot. Needless to say, fun times ahead!

Nice work. Now you can put your putting mat on it to practice your uphill putts. For anyone else finding themselves in a situation where you need one of these built check with your local Boy Scout troop. In order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout the scout has to have a project. Manage it all himself. Scouts are always looking for a project to do. The scouts raise the money for the material and get the design approved. They also build the entire thing under supervision. I was an Assistant Scout Master and we built several of these for people, churches, and such. We also put up quite a few flag poles.

  13. Absolutely loving the home hitting setup (and my wife, who has been encouraging of me hitting balls whenever possible). Feel like I've been making a ton of progress on my swing since my last lesson. I texted the below image to my coach, which was the result of four warm up swings and nothing else: After I warmed up, I focused almost exclusively on hitting my 4 hybrid. I've always struggled with the longest clubs in my bag, so focusing on hitting my longer clubs is something I wanted to do now that I've gotten the net setup. The results were pretty good, as I was simultaneously focusing on contact and then also trying to see how fast I could swing on the Mevo+. My gapping seems to be pretty solid. There's a touch of overlap between my 4 hybrid, 4 utility iron and 5 iron, but that's not such a bad thing. At the end of my session I started to work on a wedge matrix, but that's going to need a lot of practice this offseason. I have a hard time getting good gapping between the half, 3/4 and full swing wedges. It seems I struggle keeping the same tempo when I change the backswing length, which leads to inconsistent distances. Something to work on!

Actually, besides my top secret item, what I would like is another pair of rain pants. In the PNW, I tend to always wear rainpants during the winter season, even if there is only a small chance of rain that day.

  20. After warming up on the range-- I basically do the same thing hit balls playing a imaginary golf round on my home course that I know well. When I go to the putting green after getting the feel some I basically putt out my round and chip when I remember I missed a green. Most people belt balls one right after the other on the range and I get some strange looks when they are resting etc. I guess it looks funny I hit a driver and assume I hooked it and have to make a knockdown low cut and then a wedge or hit the driver and go to the bag and pull like say a 6 iron. My practice time is limited now because of the physical restraints so I make the best of it. Before a round I may hit like 10 balls on the range with just a wedge to time myself up and get loose. If I can time my wedge up then I am ok so to speak. One of the reasons I hit whiffle balls in the yard with wedges mostly just keeping loose and timing it up

  21. Bought my wife a new driver for her birthday: she’s finally accepted that gaming “women’s” clubs are holding her back. And since we were already hitting clubs, I figured I’d address that gap between my 3 wood and 4 iron…

  24. Not bad consistant contact at all---- As long as it is consistent you can live with it. IMHO as long as you can consistently hit it on one spot on the club you can figure out your distances and flight. About the path of my hits in general. Truthfully if you look at any older clubs I have played for some time I have about the same wear pattern. The key is knowing what is going on, Which I have never considered myself a ball striker but a inventive shot maker and get out of jail artist. I remember one time this old pro was looking at the short irons of my first set of VIPs. He did not know me per say but was a friend of a friend--- He looked at the faces of my short irons and the sole wear. He told me you are a trap cut player and swing outside in. He nailed it--- Yep it does not have to be perfect or textbook to work.

With a budget of $2000, I'd want a Flightscope Mevo+. They're running a sale in them right now and they come in at $1799. Although, if I got that, I'd have to buy my wife a LOT of plants.

  27. Yep graphite shafts set up properly can be a game changer for us with bad backs--- Also the foam filled heads or heads like the ones I have with the polymer stuff help too on vibration. In the past I had done a lot of study on torsinional vibration especially engines with my racing background---- I broke my back in April of 2020--- Have permanant nerve damage now. Did the therapy and such also worked out with Drs approval with a swing trainer. Thought I was coming around but still had pain and stiffness after golf every time I played. I had some discussions with others on here and another site I frequent. Also had a discussion with a golf instructor friend of mine on the same subject of vibration. Talked to my neurosurgeon and he agreed about frequency vibration inflaming the nerves in my back. I was resistant to change having played steel shafted blade Macgregors all my golfing life---- About a month and a half now I hurt myself bad again not structually but nerve wise. I was going to give up the game period. I had been working with the TM irons in my signature for a year or so on and off. Never had actually played a round with them my instructor friend talked me into seriously giving it a try. He also told me about waiting on the shaft some compared to my steel shafted ones---- I finally put them into play in our weekly Shootout-- Played 18 with absolutely no pain and stiffness and no pain meds. The test was the next morning I had no pain or stiffness or what I called a hang over--- In fact unheard of for me in the past I played 9 holes Sunday afternoon--- Have about 8 rounds in now with no pain of stiffness--- Yep I was being resistant to change but had my back against the wall but it was change or quit alltogether---- Glad I changed and stayed in the game

Shot 77 (39/38) at a course just outside Vicksburg, MS, called Clear Creek. It’s in a tiny little town, but it’s a fun course that is difficult to hit driver on due to very narrow fairways that are lined by oak trees! Decade’s 60 yard wide target does NOT apply anywhere on this course. Wind was blowing at about 15, so it made it even tougher to hit drives. Tabletop greens, so when I missed them I had short chips to the hole. Only hit 8 fairways and 7 greens, but had just 29 putts… Sky was clear, temp hit the 70s, so I had an enjoyable day.

  35. Thanks Dawg--- I was lucky I did not have to have surgery. I structurally healed up fine and my compressed disc re inflated itself. Mine is basically nerve damage which the docs say may or may not go away it is a crap shoot. Yep I went through PT for both the shoulder which I broke too and the back. The shoulder doc plays golf himself and got me into a PT program to help play golf again. I have had absolutely no problem with the shoulder. But for now I am sticking with the graphite. Stick with the PT I know it hurts but stick with it

  36. That’s very interesting if you go to the main product page from the menu of the website it does not list the R1 at all, but as you mentioned if you scroll all the way to the bottom in the fine print under products, the R1 is there. I really wish they would retool it to use a regular rangefinder battery instead of the rechargeable version that doesn’t seem to work very well.

  43. I've been putting horribly the last few months but haven't had the motivation to make the time to work on it. Yesterday a couple family youngsters stopped by for a visit and they headed to the putting green to keep from getting bored. I joined in and while messing around had the one kid video my stroke with my phone. I figured out I had my shoulders waaaay open in set up and that had my stroke all messed up trying to keep it aligned with the putting line...an out to in to out stroke path. Squared up my shoulders which got my stroke more in line with the line of the putt and things got better quickly. Makes me mad at myself I didn't take a couple videos a couple months ago....would have saved a good bit of frustration.

  44. I was informed today of Srixon coming out with a Z-Star Diamond ball later this year that will always curve towards the center of the fairway and the alignment line on it automatically adjusts for the break on the green to guide you in every time. Which will have to compete with the Wilson Triad(?) I also heard is coming out with self cleaning technology. * the above balls are something I did hear about, the abilities I entirely made up.

Obviously Tony and Rick missed a very important feature in the picture - the cart path - there's that little part that sticks out to the right side of the fairway - I hit a ball down the right rough line with a touch of draw - it hit the cart path and took off.
