I'm lucky to have a 26'x26' attached garage with 10' ceilings. It's not finished or heated, but usually stays about 10 degrees above ambient temperature. I bought the following this summer in preparation: Cimarron Sports 10'x10'x10' cage net with target and baffle USA Turf 4'x4' Matzilla Mat Fiberbuilt Flightdeck Flightscope Mevo+ I built three 2"X3"x8' wood "clamps" that go around the 2"x6" rafters and are secured with 10" carriage bolts. The net secures to this structure with some bungee balls along the back walls of my garage, while the inner most side has a hook where I can secure the net when in use. When not in use I unhook the net and push it into the corner. The baffle net and target are attached to a 10' piece of EMT conduit that is secured to the wooden structure about a foot in front of the back wall of the net. The resulting cage is about 8'x8'x10'. I hold the corners down with some Amazon sand bags filled with pea gravel. I end up getting 13' of ball flight and 8' from hitting area to Mevo+. It took a little bit of fiddling, but I'm finding the Mevo+ to be very close to real life even with only 13' of ball flight to measure. This is the view of the whole setup as viewed by the Mevo+: I'll probably add a propane heater and crack a window for ventilation as we move further into winter. It was 39 degrees during my practice session today.

Went out for a foggy nine with @Loki659. Great time. Very rusty. 51 (ugh). Been over a month since I last played. First round with Ventus. Driver was fade city. Couldn’t get my timing with it. Only one decent drive. Maybe I was trying to hard to impress our new member. Iron game was a mess. Every was missing right. Need a few more rounds with the Ventus before squashing it since on the range it has been brilliant. Should of have had a couple more pars. Looking forward to future rounds with Our new spy and meeting up with @twyatt700 again sometime.

I've worked in the alcohol industry. Every state prohibits a license holder from allowing outside alcohol into their license area. (It eliminates the possibility of a holder cutting off a drunk.) Depending on how aggressive a control agent gets, even a single case can result in a suspension in the liquor license. Multiple cases are a certain suspension, and a recurrence after a suspension probably will result in permanent revocation. While the agency may take into account how sneaky the person was who brought it in, they're not required to consider that. I've heard of country clubs around here who have kicked out members who did this. I do not know of any golf courses who have suffered suspensions here, but I do know of other private clubs that have (a VFW hall).

Shot a 77 with the new sticks. Distances are just a little shorter than my gamers but these fly straight and are very easy to hit. A little more offset than I'm used to but nothing off putting. Had a blast! Last week I had a shaft pulling party one night.. wait.. that sounded pretty bad.. well, one night I decided to pull all the shafts and re-glue with new ferrules that I had lying around. I also added some subtle Mizuno blue paint fill and matching grips. All in I'm at $100 for a really fun and clean set of classics. Oh, and to keep with the theme, I picked up a new driver. Was lacing the fairways like I haven't done before. I'm beyond stoked about my first round with the STZ.

This so much. We (our course) are County owned. DJ if we don’t follow county liquor license restrictions, well you can imagine the consequences. I’ll say this as nicely as I can. Guys why would you even think it’s ok to bring your own beer or alcohol as a paying customer. Would you think it’s ok at a MLB or NFL gsme. Or into the local Outback or Legal Seafood? You would be shocked at the number of people who become beligerent about it or try to sneak it in their golf bags. If you can’t afford $8 to $12 for 3 -4 beers during a round, then maybe you should be evaluating if you should be playing that round.

Here is my son's project for a local church that had a lot of veterans buried in their cemetery out back. We dug the hole, put in a sleeve for the flag pole, poured a 3'x3'x3' cement base that was flush with the surface. We got a monument that was engraved wrong for next to nothing. Then had a plaque made to honor the vets and mounted it over the original engraving. We had the 4 branches of the military stones cast in cement and painted them. Mounted the flag pole, installed a solar light. Then did the surrounding area in red stone and pavers. It was a pretty serious project and took a few weekends to complete.

Absolutely loving the home hitting setup (and my wife, who has been encouraging of me hitting balls whenever possible). Feel like I've been making a ton of progress on my swing since my last lesson. I texted the below image to my coach, which was the result of four warm up swings and nothing else: After I warmed up, I focused almost exclusively on hitting my 4 hybrid. I've always struggled with the longest clubs in my bag, so focusing on hitting my longer clubs is something I wanted to do now that I've gotten the net setup. The results were pretty good, as I was simultaneously focusing on contact and then also trying to see how fast I could swing on the Mevo+. My gapping seems to be pretty solid. There's a touch of overlap between my 4 hybrid, 4 utility iron and 5 iron, but that's not such a bad thing. At the end of my session I started to work on a wedge matrix, but that's going to need a lot of practice this offseason. I have a hard time getting good gapping between the half, 3/4 and full swing wedges. It seems I struggle keeping the same tempo when I change the backswing length, which leads to inconsistent distances. Something to work on!

I spun the wheel of mis-fortune this morning and @Sluggo42 's name came up. His game seems to be like a roller coaster ride. Playing well then the bottom falls out, then playing well again. I see this with a lot of you spies. The roller coaster analogy just seems to fit. You get on and you have a slow climb to the top just like getting your score or handicap down. Then all the sudden you drop to the bottom. Just like having a bad day. Then you have the twists and turns. Like a slice or a hook creeping in. Then a little uphill climb again. Now you are getting a little better. We will get back to this in a minute. Sluggo42 says he hits his irons better when he chokes up. The only time I get choked up is when a hot pink ball rolls by me. But he seems to get choked up fondling his irons. To each his own I guess! Lately ole Sluggo fell in love with this chick called Adele but she spells it differently “Edel”. He said he fell in love when he opened her box. Too Much Information I believe. Seems like she is doing all the putting for him lately. It’s a good thing too because she's a much better putter. Back to my roller coaster analogy. Have you ever noticed that so many golfers think they found the magic secret to playing golf? Then the next day it doesn’t work anymore or you lost the mojo. Sluggo has found and lost the secret so many times I stopped counting. Let’s break down a few since September shall we! It all started out like this: Really good round and only 25 putts. Right when I think I got this game by the tail, along comes a round where I literally stink, and I can’t even hit the stupid ball. Sorry my bad the Yelllow Ball was in play. Had a few consecutive rounds of stench golfing, and considering stepping away for a while. Yellow Ball can see the game between the ears took a break! Nice round today with an epic front 9. Shot ok, butt 33 putts. He blamed Edel for having gas and heard her fart. Boy if your driver could talk I’m sure he would have some things to say about the noises he hears on the tee box. I’m shooting darts, I haven’t mishit anything. I found the answer to fat hits. My streak of good play continues, in addition to my superb iron play is my driver and fairway woods. Driver has been a little fadey. Play the fade and it goes straight. I’m not picking on Sluggo, but this shows you that this is a typical pattern that most golfers fall into. It happens with the Pro’s too. Look what happened to Bryson yesterday in "The Match". So don’t feel bad when this happens. Don’t throw in the towel, work through it. Laugh it off, tomorrow will be better.

While I forgot to take some pictures I’ve been using my pellet grill on the weekends. Last night made some fantastic pulled pork sliders with homemade coke slaw and sweet potatoes

I bring my own cigars that is it mainly because most courses don’t have stogies I like.

Did a nice reverse sear New York strip for dinner with air fryer sprouts. I freaking love doing reverse sear always a perfect medium rare all the way through

78 (39/39), four birdies, a triple and a double. Ugh. Outside of two holes it was a very good round! Cold!!!! 50*, slight breeze, overcast, but we had the course to ourselves. Good day!

Luckily she’s a unicorn: 6’1 and left handed! I laughed all the way to the register as her new driver (used TM M1) beat her old Kailea driver by a measly 35 yards. Most offline drive she had while hitting about 8 different drivers was 14 yards from center. I’d sell my soul for that kind of consistency. And she never practices: just strolls to the 1st tee and shoots sub 95 every time.

No rest for the bored, here is the 7i data, I keep looking to make this cleaner, I'll figure it out at some point. Ball #1 Red Ball #2 Green And Ball #3 Blue: For transparency, 20 shots each was just too many for me. So I hit 1 sleeve of each ball, and rotated back and forth through them hitting a total of 9 shots with each ball(or 3 sleeves), I kept the best 6 shots with each ball so that the averages would be even, but I really only needed to kick out 2 bad hits for the batch of 27 shots. The rest were fine, just splitting hairs to get the best averages. Cheers all.

Just received my order today. A Sub-70 939X Hybrid. Aldila NV 55 shaft in regular flex. Now I definitely have to play on Sunday.

AFter thinking about this for a while and since I need a new coach/instructor; I'd buy into the performance school that one my local golf coaches offers. Basically a year of coaching and instruction for $2K.

I have yet to be on a course that allows outside food or drink. It may be more prevalent now days with the rising cost of what seems to be everything. (Not a political statement just my observation).

My course here in Tennessee has always been that way. No outside coolers or drinks. Outside beverages would take away from the clubs revenue. It would also can allow them to monitor someone's consumption if need be. You can get a cooler full of what you want from the club to take out on the course. You just have to purchase the liquor at the club.

Just purchased a Club Glove Rolling Duffle XL. It will connect to my Club Glove travel bag so that its like a train and both bags can be pulled with one hand. Or if I am not traveling with by travel bag, but just going on a family vacation, can use the duffle as our main luggage, so it has versatility.

Our courses have had signs that usually say no outside coolers. Against Virginia ABC regulations and the courses risk loosing their license.

I lasted 6,000+ up to 3 years ago. The guys just decided that it wasn’t fun playing from Those Tees. We’re all enjoying the shorter Tee boxes.

I see it all the time. I’ve played with random groups throughout the summer and see the whiskey or fireball bottle being taken out for birdies which is a bit of a head shaker. I’m not much for drinking on the course but I also play in a competitive morning group teeing off at 7am on the weekends. It seems that more and more these days people are pushing the limits on anything

I know our courses have the 'No outside alcohol' signs listed. This is no problem for me as I cannot/do not drink while golfing. I play poorly enough sobor! Some of my regular golf buddies will sneak a flask on course, and offer me some. I always decline.

Depending on how you look at it irons have advanced. Basic blades have not changed any. Now other irons have changed from a design standpoint as in weight placement and like 2 piece faces. Shaft engineering along with the newer heads have changed the game and IMHO has kept some folks in the game longer. Loft jacking is nothing other than changing the number on the bottom of a club and maybe having to add a "wedge" Todays Gap or A wedge is yesterdays PW. Todays 4 iron ( when you can find one ) is yesterdays 2 or 3 iron. Now I will admit a modern Callaway 4 iron with perimeter weighting is a lot easier to launch than a old blade 3 iron and with the newer metals and designs has more ball speed and with the shaft combo has a more penetrating ball flight. But I guess because it is the way I have played my whole life I do prefer the old blades

yes, depends upon your definition of "compete".... I still play weekly with my 35 YO BeCu ping eye 2's.... still score mid 90's... the 1, 2, 3 irons are in storage. added 52 & 60* Vokeys to 7 yo driver, 5W & 4H. I'm 72. 6-7 years ago, I lost 25-30 yds and shot 100's. (old age & loss of muscle mass but last two years have regained 10-15 yds and back in mid 90's still wagering with guys I played with for 50 years

To get the most out of what you did already. You can use a king size sheet up against the net as the impact screen. Then mount an overhead ultra short throw projector. Thats what I did and it works great. That will save you $550 because you won't need the case and screen. The sheet will just come down or go up with the net. My set up is in the garage as well. I had enough space for just a short throw.

That came out great man! Always nice to have people in your life like that. I didn’t realize this. Would gladly get a pole up if they have to do it. Easy enough to do but good project for the kids.

Nice work. Now you can put your putting mat on it to practice your uphill putts. For anyone else finding themselves in a situation where you need one of these built check with your local Boy Scout troop. In order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout the scout has to have a project. Manage it all himself. Scouts are always looking for a project to do. The scouts raise the money for the material and get the design approved. They also build the entire thing under supervision. I was an Assistant Scout Master and we built several of these for people, churches, and such. We also put up quite a few flag poles.

I just want to take a moment and talk about being thankful for some of the people in my life. We're still waiting on my mother-in-law to come home from rehab, she's had a couple of setbacks with her MRSA and had to go back to the hospital twice. Hopefully, she's coming to stay with us around the first of December. One of the things we needed was to build her a wheelchair accessible ramp to be able to get her into the house. Well, one day I was talking to my buddy Jimmy at work. He mentioned it to his mother-in-law and she had some 2x6 boards she just gave us. He them mentioned it to his father-in-law who repairs mobile homes and he had just torn a ramp down and had some decking boards he gave us. My friend Ryan offered to help build the ramp, he builds houses and came over today in 34 degree weather and we worked on it. By we I mean he did the vast majority of planning and crafting of the frame and basically had me to fasten the deck boards, although it was a very good learning experience for this non handy guy. My feet are still frozen, but it was well worth it in order to be able to get my mother-in-law home after four months of bouncing between the hospital and rehab.

$2,000? Hmm. I’d take the cash and deposit it into my “golf account”, then wait for next season. Then, next season, I’d go do a fitting for driver, fairway, hybrid, and irons and see what shakes out. I doubt what I have is getting switched-out across the board, so whatever money’s left I’d use toward some lessons. I’m guessing I’d spend somewhere around $1,000 on changes to the bag at most, so a grand for lessons.

Time I want more time on the course.

I really don't need anything golf related presently but were I forced to spend $2000 it would be a Mevo+ and a pair of shoes (not sure which ones).... or.... a Mitchell Loft/Lie machine.

Epic dessert last night, which took 3 days to make, but soooooo worth it! Turkish coffee custard in a Ghirardelli dark chocolate shell topped with whip cream and chocolate covered espresso beans.

I was getting a little stir crazy today and thought I'd run by the range and see if it was open. My mid range wedge game cost me in my last round and I felt like practicing it a little bit. I happened to get there about an hour before they closed, picked up a large bucket, and got to work. I realized my biggest problem was I wasn't accelerating through on the short shots. I started out picking targets and running through all my wedges and hitting to them. I moved on to full swing monitoring contact with foot spray and found out I'm hitting fairly consistent, just favoring the toe a bit PW 7 iron I'm still working on feeling like I'm throwing a frisbee with my left arm working on weight shift and when I get it right, I'm seeing improvement in consistency. I was even hitting good shots with my 5 wood. I had one where I fell into old swing habits and hit a dud. I hit some drivers after that. I moved on to simulated holes just to get the feel of switching clubs between shots and had to even pull out a 5 iron punch on the third because I was blocked out by a tree on the third hole. I played four holes this way and felt like I gave myself a good look at two putt bogeys on each one. My goal is to be playing bogey golf come spring and try to give myself an occasional shot at scores in the 80's. My confidence is starting to come back and it's nice to get out and hit some balls on such a beautiful day.
