  2. Yes, i will be sticking with Monte (i know i have made these types of statements in the past). After working with multiple different instructors and different systems, I have come to some realizations. I need someone who can point out the root cause(s) of my issues, tell me what is supposed to happen in the swing, and provides some good ideas on what to try (drills, feels, etc.). Then it's on me to figure out which of those drills and feels best resonate with my and how my mind/body work together. And now that my son is vaccinated, there will likely be more trips to the LA/OC area, so more opportunities to work with Monte in-person (my in-laws live in So Cal). Monte in-person lessons really help me a lot. Haven't had an in-person lesson with him for 2 years. Right after that lesson, my wife was seriously ill and then the pandemic hit, so haven't made it down to So Cal since.

  5. If I recall correctly, and I may need @STUDque to back me up since he was taking on the financial side of this, if you win the league you do have the choice of forfeiting the GT prize, which is Golden Ticket plus your money back in exchange for the first cash prize, which I do not remember what that was agreed to in the thread. Golden ticket would then be offered to second place, who would choose between that and the next money prize, then potentially to third or fourth. Again, this presupposes a win by either a current golden ticket holder from golf like yourself, someone already in a testing opportunity like myself or a potentially Mod victory like @GolfSpy_APH, something I'm sure that the league will fight like hell to stop at any means.

    How'd you play?

Don’t like to play this late in the season our course is sometimes closed for frost warning. But it was nice day and there many players out today. I have been practicing my new putting and chipping stroke and wanted to test it out One three putt on the 2nd green but rest putting was was really good Made all my putts inside 10 feet and every lag putt was within 3 feet except for that 3 putt on 2nd green My tee ball sucked though. Oh well

  10. A question with to many variables. The average cost of a round of golf in the US is $61.00 for 18 holes and $33.00 for 9 holes based on 2020 data. Do you make enough money to afford spending that much on a hobby? Each of us will have a different answer on how many rounds we want to and can afford to play a week, a month, or a year. Are you on a budget or maybe a fixed retirement income? Can you afford to be part of a country club? Then you can play all the golf you want but you have to pay your monthly dues. Time is dependent on ones situation. Are you married with small children, are they involved in sports? Are you retired with plenty of time on you hands? We are all on this site because we like to play golf. Some would like to play more but funds and time are limited. Others don't have these concerns. But some time in our lives we all had factors that limited our play time. Depending on where you live, you can find courses on a budget for $30.00. Other places it's not happening. Speaking for myself everything changes over time. In my 30's and 40's it was budget and children which equates to not enough money or time. In my late 40's I relocated and golf was much more affordable in my new area and my youngest children were 2 and 4 at the time. Then joining a country club was a wise choice. My kids had a place to swim, play tennis, and learn to golf and most importantly grow up in a safe environment. While they swam at the pool I played golf. Even though the youngest is 18 now and away at college I still can only play once a week and occasionally twice a week. I still am working full time so I don't have as much time to play as I would like to. I'm still a weekend warrior! Someday that will change.

  15. I guess this question is more like what I am currently streaming on each streaming service? Netflix: Queue includes a re-watch with the fiance of Crazy Ex Girlfriend, finishing The Good Cop, and going through and finally finishing Gotham for a few choices Paramount Plus: CSI Vegas concludes this week with the season (series?) finale. It's been good enough, never reaching the highs of CSI OG, but solid enough to warrant a second season I would say. Also watching Queen of the Universe, essential viewing for any Drag Race fans out there Hulu: Might soon to be starting What We Do In The Shadows once we rewatch the film. Big Waititi fan is this guy. Also, watch the Nic Cage film Pig which is now available on Hulu, one of my favorite films of the year. HBO Max: Arguably the most watched streamer we have, waiting on S3 of Wellington Paranormal, trying to finish Season 1 of The Righteous Gemstones before Season 2 comes out next year, The Sex Life of College Girls in the queue as is Landscapers, which we'll probably watch tonight to be fair along with a bunch of other stuff Showtime: Yellowjackets... it's awesome and you should be watching. The premiere is on Youtube, but watch it and see. If you're into it maybe wait until you can binge them all on a free Showtime trial. I'm also watching Dexter: New Blood. Again, not as good as Peak Dexter, but building toward a way better ending than the original run. Pluto TV: Free and with channels that show reruns. In the background you can get The Price Is Right, the Barker Years or my personal choice, the Iron Chef channel with all the episodes from the Japanese version of the show, absent the awesome music.

  17. Working on speeding up the arms the past few days. The thing with Monte is he doesn't always prescribe one single drill, he refers you to the "type" of drills and then you have to find one that works for you. Tried a few drills and they did speed up the arms, but i started to do some other unintended things. Finally came across a drill, Monte calls it a 9 to 3 swing. I came across the Dan C. version which is what to focus on as the intent of the drill. Backswing to arm parallel, trying to have the intent of keeping both arms straight (he said the trail arm with actually fold) and wrist set. Then try to get your arms through as fast as possible to the 3 o'clock position, arms straight as well in that finish position. Sent the following video in to Monte as part of the Improvement Plan. The interesting part is although my intent is left arm parallel, i get to what could be considered a full backswing position. Monte replied to the video with "Nice". Translating that into Monte Improvement Plan speak, that means keep doing that, you didn't introduce any new major issues, don't try to move onto other things.

EDIT: Literally 10 seconds of Googling shows that golfing among women, juniors, and millenials was all on the rise in 2020 and continuing to grow - https://www.golfdigest.com/story/national-golf-foundation-reports-numbers-for-2020-were-record-se Now, granted, a lot of that was pandemic related - will those trends continue? We'll see.

  22. Definitely time. There are so many courses (at least around here) that are great values, and used gear can be had a very decent prices. Granted, it's still a little harder to find given how costs seem to be up across the board, but a little patience and looking around can get someone a full set of good clubs for short money. For me, working 50 hours a week plus having all my kid's activities, in addition to being on a non-profit board, it's tough to consistently find time to get out there for 18 holes. Sometimes even 9 holes is a chore. It's not even pace of play, there are enough courses around here to divvy up the golfers that it's rare I have a round that takes forever. It's simply scheduling. I personally don't sweat it though - time flies. In a few years both of my kids will either be off at college or living their own lives post-college, so I'll have more time to play then. For now I just want to enjoy what time I have left with them.

  23. For the mental side of putting I try to minimize hope and fear Meaning I just practice holing out fairly flat short putts that don’t break at all or just a bit of break to gain confidence first This way I eliminated the fear of fast breaking short putts until I have to play Concentrate my practice to 12 foot and in as those are more make able range I was practicing to many long putts “hoping” they go in For longer putts I just practice distance control to fringe, or to another ball Percentages are that I’m not going to make most of my long putts but if I have good distance control and proper read I have a chance to wobble the ball in If I stick to that process I should never 3 putt

  24. I realize I might be a bit late to the party based on the number of responses, but here's my two cents. It sounds as if you've boxed yourself into just one way of hitting driver when in fact there are a number of ways to play driver and a number of driver specs you can combo with it. You like to hit down? Plenty of high-level players hit down with their driver, and I have had success with it as well. Would I prefer an upward AoA? Sure, but what's more important is that I get the ball in play and I can accomplish that just fine. I'm even able to hit driver off the deck on occasion. It doesn't always work out, but just like anything else in golf it's a skill that needs to be practiced.

  25. Ok quick update. Reached out to Garmin and the support rep mentioned their Team lead purchased some RCT balls for their own testing. Said for now try to follow the instructions on indoor setup best results. Unfortunately they're recommending 12-15 feet ball to net and 8-10 feet R10 to ball. Even at minimum I would be 20 feet from R10 to net. I think I've got 15 maybe 16 feet total in my garage end to end so don't know how that will work. Might have to try and find a friend with a bigger garage or a bigger house! They've requested pictures of the balls, my indoor setup, and swing videos with each ball so I'll be sending those later tonight. Will keep yall posted.

  33. Right now we're watching Hawkeye on Disney+ and The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime. Wheel is something I've been looking forward to a long time and really enjoying it so far. There have been a few changes to the book that have been iffy, but they've done a good job translating a huge series into tv. I'm looking forward to later this year to the Book of Boba Fett, The Witcher, and Cobra Kai.

    Daphne's headcovers

I do not normally go for animal themed headcovers etc just use mostly no product mismatched covers. Now believe it ofr not I do have a "Stuey Family Guy" headcover a friend gave me years ago but do not use it because it is too bulky. Now today I was rumming through some stuff in the shop and found a brand new Daphine Jason Gore Big Ape cover . I think it was from some stock of covers I bought when a friend of mine closed her shop. So I am going to try it and see because I guess now I look like a big ape because of my size and long hair

Ready for another season of a few shows too: Jack Ryan Ted Lasso (a long time to wait since season 2 just ended) The Boys Loki Upload The Witcher Upcoming shows I'm excited for: Lord of the Rings Prequel Game of Thrones Prequel The Book of Boba Fett Definitely more of a tv guy than movies. Sometimes I don't get to watch them until long after they come out. I need to keep a running list.

    How'd you play?

Got a chance to play Braemar CC yesterday (West 9/ US Open 9) via a charity scramble for an organization I'm on the board of. Played with one buddy I play with regularly (9.5 index) and two random Architectural services reps we got paired with. (Guessing 25+?). It was a very good time and we carded a totally honest 68 together on a 70.3/130 course that none of us had seen before. We got a little help from the other guys (gave them the first crack at the short birdies, because who doesn't like holing those out) but for the most part I think it was my buddy and I that put it together. We didn't win because charity scramble (63...) . Not as egregious of a scramble score as I've seen but also not believable unless Brad Faxon was putting. We also didn't use any of the purchase mulligans, though we did donate to purchase an eagle, which we then actually eagled via play. Downhill Part 5 -- my drive to 220, my buddies 3 iron to 12 ft, and my putt. Play wise: Off the tee: I was inconsistent with driver, three wood, and hybrid. The course is narrow, hilly, and technical and it was feast or famine. Some of that is being highly aggressive one we had one in play but some of it is also just mishits. I did manage to hit two of the best intentional draws I've ever attempted: one with a 5 iron on a short uphill dogleg par 4 with a hill blocking any chance of cutting the corner and one with Driver on a severely sloping left to right fairway on a long par 4. I was much better with my irons hitting 3 of the shots we used on the 4 par 3s. Long Irons: Great off the tee, not as good off the fairway. Not bad, but not as good as I would have liked. Short Irons: Stellar. We probably used my 8 iron to 54 shots 75% of the time yesterday. I was just dialed and seemed to also be able to shape at will to get it close on very difficult greens. Short wedges: Pretty good but I only need to hit a short chip 3 or 4 times yesterday as we only had 3 bogies. I did manage to get a lot of them pretty close though. Putting: I had an excellent day putting the highlights of which were a 41'-10" (We measured for closes to the pin) right to left uphill to downhill putt for birdie, the 12 footer for eagle, several long lags that helped us save par, and a couple more birdie putts. I felt confident with it all day. I wish muni's could get closer to that speed it's so much easier to putt well when you're confident that the ball will stay on the line you putt it on without having to take a full swing. I know it was a charity scramble but I felt like my buddy and I would have carded decent rounds even if we'd been playing solo. It was a blast and a great way to spend my 39th birthday. One of the widest fairways of the day... My approach The Tee that I sponsored My buddy Rory and I after finishing our last hole.

  38. Just gonna throw this out there now to add some possible excitement and stress to make the final 4. If I do happen to make the final 4 and win I will be trading the GT to any of the other 3 interested. Now I can tell you that if I win it isn’t a guarantee that #2 gets the ticket. I have a criteria I will be considering and will be revealed should I actually win it. Good luck to everyone this week. Hopefully those fighting for a spot don’t have byes to worry about!

  39. I had been doing well until today. I have wanted a new putter upgrading from my old Taylor made spider tour. Luckily Taylor made had a sale for the spider ex, on sale and free shipping! I closed the browser a few times but I figured it makes more sense to buy one now with the discounts than later. Plus it allows me to continue to fill out my wife’s golf bag, when we go out together I’ll use an old 2 ball gang and she uses the old spider because she likes how lightweight it is. Let’s just say that how I am justifying the purchase!

    How'd you play?

Played in my first 2 Day Major for the US AM Tour down in the La Canetera Course, Palmer ( soon to be taken down to build house, shame its such a great course) and the Resort Course, in San Antonio, TX. First day I was able to play to a solid 82 considering that I shank a 9 iron into the woods on the par 3 to take a 7, my only other in the score card and a improvable chip in on 18th. Second day with a 4 stroke lead was cruising along to start the round, when the weather change to 30-40mphs winds and cold winds. Then it was survival for everyone to make it to the club house in one piece. Game was ok, not spectacular but decent and didn't crumble under pressure of competition. Came out a victorious at the end , first day lead was huge and help to preserve the lead while I was leaking a little oil coming into the finish line.

  41. I played 18 on Saturday as it was unseasonably warm here in Utah. It was a very up and down round. A couple of brilliant holes and a couple of WTF holes. Overall, I need to iron out my consistency. I typically had at least one great shot per hole, but that was bookended by some total garbage. Hole 18 pretty much sums it up. It's a big downhill 450 yard par 4. There is a creek at about 300 yards so driver is out of the question for me (given the slope). I teed off with my 3U and just crushed it. I got to my ball with about 150 to the middle of the green and promptly duffed into the creek. Recovery shot was pushed right. I had a nice pitch on and a 2 putt. I just need to spend some time drilling the pattern that works (which I know) and build that muscle memory. Right now my bad shots are just way too bad. Fun game though, such a good challenge!

  45. ... Great progress! Granted there is reading the green and having a repeatable stroke involved but putting is much more mental than physical. We can't hit drives like anyone on the PGA Tour but we can putt like they do. Don't try and make a decent putt, don't try and lag it close ... try and make every putt you face. If you believe you can, the odds go up exponentially. The power of positive thinking is never stronger than rolling a ball several feet into a hole. Literally anyone can do it. You just have to believe you can.

  46. Several months in and I must say that focusing on putting and having a good attitude about putting has improved my overall enjoyment of the game significantly. Just came off a round with: - Zero 3 putts! - 2.04 strokes gained - +3 75 on a day where I didn't really have it ballstriking wise. Add to that, I didn't make any bombs over 12 ft and it really shows me how important putting is. I played with a guy who hit it significantly better than I did but he 3 putted from 30-40 ft 3 times and I realized that was me a few months ago. Also, a few things that have worked for me lately: - Spend much more time looking at the hole while setting up for your putt. Trying to "feel it" with my stroke while looking at the hole was pretty useless. I find just slowly looking up and down my line while over the ball gives me a good sense of feel. - Once you look down at the ball the final time, just pull the trigger. - Keep your through stroke short and definitely shorter than your backstroke or AT MOST the same length. The long through stroke is a recipe for a push most of the time. Especially on short putts.

I just picked my my GLE Coupe hybrid yesterday. It was a smooth ride home with summer tires in snow and icy weather. I'll be swapping the winter tires on Monday. The sales guy did recommend using the pre-conditioning function before leaving. Let the car warm up the interior and the battery while it's still plugged in the garage. Saves you battery power on the road and increases battery range as well.
