    How'd you play?

Played a 9 hole, par 3 course in the LA area (Palos Verdes to be more specific). Par is 27, I shot a 35. I played ok, couldnt figure out the green speeds, so my putting was mediocre. Never played there before, and the greens were undulating, but also wet from rain.

  2. Just putting this out there for everyone, right now this is going to be the biggest league we've ever undertaken on this forum for fantasy sports, but with that comes a double edge sword. I'm not saying this to threaten teams, but to set in the sand what our expectations are of you as players. We'll be busy behind the scenes trying to get everything to work, but if you give up on this league I personally guarantee you won't be asked back or allowed in any other fantasy league we do. Be competitive and try, that's what we ask, if you can't make that low bar, we have no problem cutting you loose at season's end.

    How'd you play?

I played with my father in law today too as well. My job was to find his ball in the bushes and then throw it back somewhere into the fairway for his next shot . Also, when his ball was in the bunker, i hit it out for him.

    How'd you play?

Not particularly well today. 48 on 9 holes. There's just something about the pressure you put on yourself when you play with your father in law. Still great fun but it left me missing my equipment. Particularly my putter. Felt like I didn't have a trustworthy club to lean on to get back into the groove aside from the mizuno 54 that was lights out for me. I'd like to blame the equipment but it was really just me today. My iron play was poor and my upper and lower half felt out of sync. I just didn't strike the ball well most of the day Driver-- the old Callaway warbird did its job though I couldn't shape it or really get it to go. Maybe had to do with the retread provs I pulled out of the bag? It never hurt me so pretty okay with it. Woods and hybrids -- not bad considering they were loaners. Again I had a lot of trouble with distance on good strikes. irons -- I played mx 300s today and was awful with them. My swing wasn't good today. Felt like tempo was way off with the irons. Approach just burned me all day. Wedge -- the high point of the round. This should have saved me on multiple holes but for suspect putting. Putter-- I miss my betti like I miss a warm blanket. I wasn't awful but I also wasn't picking off 6-8 footers at the percentage I know I can. Dropped a single putt from outside 8' and three putted twice. I think I'm going to ship Stix my clubs out here next time. This is a challenging course for me but I'd like to play it with clubs I know yardage on, am comfortable with, and can play at my best ability with.

  5. It's amazing how crazy we get after long periods of not being able to play. I'm glad the small tornado did no damage to your house as you were bolting out the door. I think it's as they are removing trees from your course, as I think it takes away from the aesthetic and some of the challenge your course presents. Finally, I'd suggest being wary of those yellow balls...they seem to like lounging in the sand and going for the occasional swim.

  6. There was a small isolated tornado today. So small it was confined to the inside of my house. I got up this morning went down to make some breakfast, looked at the weather on my phone and the weather was going to be sunny and in the 50's. I ran back upstairs, showered, dressed for golf. Ran down two flights of stairs to get to the basement to get my clubs. Grabbed a drink to take on the course. Ran out to the car and took off. I think the curtains in the living room were still moving as I drove down the driveway. Three weeks of rainy weekends can make a golfer do some strange things. Never even said good bye to the family as I breezed by. On to the important stuff. No warm up, right to the first tee. Played decent. All drives were in the fairway. A few approaches were short but not very short. Maybe a yard off the green at most. One was in a bunker but made a good bunker shot for a sand save. We have 52 bunkers, so only being in one was a plus. The greens were very fast, very fast. Not what I expected them to be. No three putts, which was good considering the speed of the greens. Took a hole or two to adapt. I didn't keep score but it felt good to be out playing. I played a yellow ball today as it shows up better against the dormant grass. Was a little disappointed with what's going on though. The course superintendent marked 50 trees for removal. Said that it would allow the greens to get more air flow and be healthier. Well they started taking some down over the past few weeks. It's taking away from some of the beauty of the course in my opinion. On a couple of holes it was shocking. I talked to the pro after and expressed my displeasure about the amount of trees removed from around the greens. A few were definitely necessary but some holes now look like a links course. Guess I'll have a new course by spring.

So, I'm under the sink, installing a new faucet for the better half in our new home, arms over my head when I go to pull out and feel a pain rip through my left deltoid. Wasted a couple of hours at urgent care with a nurse practitioner. Still painful, albeit to a lesser extent. Temperatures are going to be in the 70s tormorrow with a 77 predicted for Christmas....and I can't play. Hoping it's nothing more than a torn deltoid muscle (which is what the symptoms indicate), but even that will take a couple of weeks to heal before playing again. By then, I suspect winter will arrive here in Central Arkansas. On the brighter side, life is still good. Merry Christmas to my MGS golf buddies across the globe!!

  8. Got it to the course today and walked 9 holes. Usually I'm a rider, but it was a beautiful day and the exercise will do me some good. Fortunately, the course has some push carts and I was able to roll in style with an Orlimar push cart probably from the early 2000's. It was a bit windy today and I had several holes playing into the wind and that made it challenging. The sun came out about the time I got on to the fourth hole and was making me regret wearing a beanie instead of a cap. I shot 56 with 18 putts, which was a better round that the score implies. On the ninth, I ended up in a bunker that was a mess of footprints and it took three shots to get out of and when I did I skulled one over the green. I took a smooth 10 on that hole. I should have taken the ball out, but I was stubborn and didn't. Driver was good, irons were better than normal, and the fairways and wedges were mental. I had a couple of shanks that didn't do me any favors. I spent a little time on the driving range before and after the round and realized afterward that I was falling into old habits of setting my wrist angles at the top of the backswing causing a lot of my strike issues. I started hitting some good shots after figuring that out. I was just happy to get out and enjoy the walk.

  9. Played again today. I am happy to report that a yellow ball was in play for the round. The ball was not lost or damaged. Didn't want any crap from you know who. I was surprised at the amount of people out on the course today. But I timed it well. Nobody was on the back so I went off there first. By the time I finished up on 18, the front was wide open. I was hitting the ball further today. The three week rain delay had me a little rusty yesterday. I did top my 3 wood once. It was a down hill, side hill fairway shot on a par 5. But I put the 3rd shot on the green anyway,so no harm. I will say that my new Sub-70 hybrid is really working out well. The Cobra Amp has been retired to one of my other back up sets. The grounds crew were out rolling greens again. Yesterday they were very fast. Today closer to linoleum. Had a few one putts which was welcomed. If you missed a putt by an inch it could wind up 12 feet away on a few holes. I had one miss by less than an inch, it almost stopped dead then rolled all the way to the front of the green. Made the 10 footer going back. The course was still pretty wet in spots. Overall a fun day on the course.

    How'd you play?

Friday Bacon Boyz this morning. 50*, no wind and plenty of hangovers from last nights party. Note to Self, no Moonshine night B4 we play. Anyway everyone played badly! Greens were in great shape but couldn’t make a Birdie out, could be no one wanted any Fireball. Bad morning for me, 3 pars, 5 bogies & 1 double for a smooth plus 7 We are not playing again until Monday.

    How'd you play?

Played what would probably be the last round of golf this season. It will also likely be the last time I play at my home course as it's pending sale to be turned into Amazon distribution centers. Shot 86 which isn't too bad. This season has been up and down. I got my handicap down to single digit for 3 months this season (below 9.5) which was a first. I also got my second hole in one this season. And finally, I shot my personal best of 75. Since the 75 six months ago, it's been frustrating, probably due to higher expectation I'm putting on myself. Ended the season at 12.5. Will be working on putting and swing speed this off season. pakman92

  13. I just installed some BBandFCo ferrules on my wedges. I had purchased a Shorty Roulette set earlier this year. This is my first attempt of this sort of club work. From a distance they look pretty darn good. Upon closer inspection one can seen the imperfections . The real test will come when I can hit them again to see if the heads stay on. . But it’s currently 23 degrees and snowing Central New York.

  14. I'll try to get over there to check on the conditions. I haven't played there since the last purchase of the club and the start of Covid. I have off next week maybe I'll see if @sirchunksalot wants to meet there and play. Next Tuesday is supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees. It about 1-1/4 hours for me and 1-1/2 for Jason. Hint Hint Jason.

  19. During my round today on a par 3, 9 hole course, for most of the round, I was hitting iron shots that were decent and had good results, but weren't those flushed compressed shots. On hole 7, it was 150 yards, uphill, flushed my 7 iron and it made that sound that you hear when you compressed it well, landed it on the green and had a good look for birdie but missed the birdie putt.

  20. I realize this isn't Golf Pride but I've got some of this brands grips on my practice irons and they're great! I'm convinced they use the exact compound mix and possibly even come out of the same factory as the GP's but just have a different name stamped on them. For $45 on Amazon you get everything shown here. It's a hell of a deal. Plus you can just turn the logo down and nobody would reall know the difference unless they looked really close at the pattern.

  21. Here's my typical routine which was followed today. I have joined an indoor range for the snowy off season here in New England. 1. (5 min) Set up SkyTrak and pair with my iPhone. Turn on the Video capture system. 2. (10 min) chips. I also use this time to align the SkyTrak manually. Many SkyTraks including mine require it to be rotated in order to record straight shots as straight shots (I should do a post on that). Mine needs to be rotated counterclockwise about 2 deg. To make sure of the alignment, I put a ball mark about 10 yards in front of me and chip to it. It straight chips read straight, I'm good to go. 3. Warm-up. (5 min) 4. Speed Training (20 min) Today's practice included Super Swing Speed training, this was the 1st session of week 2 - Level 1. I got some weird looks from people during my left-handed swings. 5. Short Game (~40 min) I hit total of 60 shots using my 54 and 58. Target carries were 15yds (LW), 45 yds (SW), 55 yds (SW), 60 yds (LW), 67 yds (SW) & 75 yds (LW). I have 20 different short game shots I practice. (chips, pitches, partial wedges). I usually pick 6 - 8 of them for each practice. 6. Full shots (~40 min) I hit 10 each of AW, 7 iron, 4 hybrid and three different shafts with my driver - total of 60 shots. I'm hitting so many drives as I'm trying to decide between 3 shafts. I'll gather at least 100 shots with each shaft and look at the SkyTrak data before deciding. Hopefully before the end of the year. The whole thing took a little less than 2 hours. My practices are about 1 1/2 hours long, but speed training has added to that. My distances have been totally wacky (club longer or more) since the speed training. I'm also tending to pull my irons, which wasn't a problem before. Average yds and side angle has changed from 156 (3.4 deg right) to 170 (-0.5 deg) for 7 iron. My launch angle and height have shot up as well. I'm hitting everything longer, higher and with more spin. But, dispersion has also increased quite a bit. Hopefully, I can figure out how to control the newfound speed. What's odd is that the gain came after the first session and it never went away even on days I don't do speed training. That's usually not supposed to happen until several weeks into the program. I hope it sticks around. [Addendum] Speed training also affected my pitch and partial wedge distance. They are out of whack! I hope my putting distances don't have to be recalibrated !!

  23. Just like our full swing clubs we have a dispersion pattern with our putters. I personally think the answer to your question depends on where you are in your putting journey. First I would say starting putts on your intended line, this involves finding the putter that fits the rotational and path for your stroke. Speed and read are more difficult to work on without face control since speed control is partially driven by delivering a fairly consistent face angle. Green reading is a skill built over time through experience or a class like aimpoint. However, if you can't control the face and/or the pace, green reading is almost impossible to master since you don't know if your miss was the face, pace, or read. Speed is probably what I would focus on most. There are multiple lines for every putt which is based on speed. As mentioned speed control is influenced by face angle and also delivering the correct putter loft. Based on what you said, if you were facing a 30' straight putt your dispersion would be wide in the short/long distance and pretty narrow in the left/right direction. You can narrow the short/long distance through practice and/or verifying that the putter is correctly fit. I have found that when I am doing most wanted testing is that my dispersion pattern will vary based on the putter I am using. Some I pull, some I push, some I leave short, some long and some are all over the place. If you perform well under pressure, a fitting may show that your putter is perfectly fine. Some people would say that particular fitting provided no value since nothing changed; others think it is great because it provides independent confirmation. Some people don't even want to know the numbers and it would allow doubt to creep in. For the poll answer: For me, I do drills that show that I have pretty good face control so my "weakness" is distance control especially as distances get longer simply because it is harder to practice putts over 20'.

  27. The short game was headed in the right direction: no bladed balls, no fat shots, no full swings to hit a short distance. With the improved mechanics, besides getting used to the mechanics, I am also getting used to the distance. I found that i left some pitch shots a little shorter than desired. Still made it on the green but left myself with longer putts than I would like.

Pasco WA is the city across the Columbia River from where I live in Richland WA... one of the TriCities along with Kennewick. The Pasco Police Department posts some hilarious Facebook posts and a fun to follow. Today's post is typical of their humor. HEROIC GUARDRAIL SACRIFICES ITSELF! Actually, if you live anywhere near Sylvester/ Road 60, you are aware that the Pasco PD routinely gets complaints of speeding on the long, straight section of Sylvester between Roads 32-56, and that Sylvester makes a hard right northbound to become Road 60. Throughout the years, a noble order of guardrails has stood on the far side of Road 60, facing constant peril in their ongoing quest to protect the house beyond the guardrail. The way is marked with reduced speed limits, arrows, and reflective markings, but still, as time goes by, one after another guardrail pays the ultimate price and a new one arrives to take its rightful place. We regret to report that the end of 2021 has resulted in yet another heroic and stoic guardrail getting mangled. It happened at about 1 AM Thursday morning when a blue Ram pickup attacked the guardrail without provocation. The battle was epic but only lasted an instant. The guardrail was uprooted and dragged into the yard, but it still managed to stop its foe short of the goal. The house stands triumphant. Officers arrived to find the Ram's driver still seated in the pickup, unharmed. After a short investigation, the 28-year-old Pasco male was arrested for DUI and booked into Franklin County Jail. The guardrail's friend of many years, the streetlight, was also struck down in his prime during this battle. Both the guardrail and streetlight will be remembered at a memorial service in the near future, at a metal recycling facility to be named later. #dontdrinkanddrive #dontdriveimpaired #designateddrivers #cominginhot #rambynamerambynature #nobleguardrail #noblestreetlight

Today was my last day at work until January 10th. After the last few weeks of working over and with all the changes here at home, it's going to be nice to be able to chill for a while. Plus, I haven't been able to get out and hit golf balls in the last 3 weeks and I'll be able to get out and both practice and play some over this time.

We has a little snow on the ground the last couple of days, but it melted off today and the course opened. My wife and I went to walk 9 holes after the frost delay. We were paired with two great guys in a covered cart with a heater. No real warmup and we played from the senior White tees. I was +3 after 3 holes, but after I missed a par putt on #5, I parred 6, 7, 8, 9 and the extra holes 10 and 11... so +4 over 11 holes. If we played further, we would be committed to finish 18, and I wasn't sure if we could finish before dark. Driver worked well today except for a skank on #2. Putting was better than usual for not practicing before teeing off. Made several nice par saves.

Played Desert Hills today and put a Vice Pro Plus against the #1 ball in golf. VPP 46/42, PV1 43/40. Started off the round a little shaky but settled in a few holes into the round and hit pretty well. Big Red held its own off the tee but did seem a few yards shorter overall. I had two sets of drives on a couple of holes that were near mirror images and provided some nice comparative data. Not much difference in approach shots, or holding greens, and both felt very similar off the putter. I must say, the red color is easy to see. Hole #14. My line off the tee is over the tall palm and catch the hard rough and kick back into the fairway. I have a couple balls in that palm... I know where they are, so technically not lost . Those things are catcher mitts.

  40. Thanks! I used some 220 grit sand paper, I didn’t have an emory cloth, and turned them by hand. Then I wiped them with acetone. I need to get some car wax on them though to give them a nice shine. @McGolf recently posted a great video that covered hand turning ferrules. That was the final push to encourage me to try this little project. Watching Jim build clubs makes it look so easy. My attempt was a bit sloppier. I used a lot more wipes to clean the epoxy overflow. I’m going to regrip them as soon as I find some Golf Pride Z Grip Patriot grips. They are out of stock everywhere.

Basically you are like me and agree everything works differently for different folks. I have never been closed minded for things. Just because I disagree with Tony and others in this case does not mean absolutely I am right and he is wrong. Me even though I read and digest the data I am a hands on person for myself. That is why you will always see me state that this either worked for ME or it did not work for ME. Lots of times I read and digest the raw data on here and the opinion of others and go from there to whether I will try the product or not. Lots of times I get intrigued and run the "Stu Test" on it for myself But yeah in a nutshell I stay open minded and read and digest and after much thought and contlemplation I form my opinion right or wrong

Played a par 3 short course 9 early this morning, before I had to pick up my daughter from the airport. We are supposed to get rain the rest of the week, so this was my opportunity as I'm off today. It was rather brisk (39*), but as you can see from the pic, the sun was out and the breeze was very light (made REALLY good use of my electric hand warmer). Missed a couple greens, but managed to chip those close and one putt. Didn't ever get a birdie putt to drop, as I think I had four a foot or less and another three under 2 feet, so even par on the day.

    How'd you play?

Just an unbelievable lightning in a bottle round which (OF COURSE) was only 9 holes since I have young children. But truly a wild ride and, apologies in advance, I am pretty amped about it. I should be clear that I made everything I looked at but overall most everything was clicking. Also, I started using "myRound Pro" app from Taylormade and once I got used to inputting everything I found it to be quite useful. Will do an unofficial review. Anyway, excuse my gloating -- I will be sure to come back and post a s**t round when I have one to balance all this optimism out. I am pretty sure the strokes gained are calculated for 18 holes so I think I cut all these in 1/2. But still, the putting tells the story. I have been gaming my old Seemore for the last few weeks and things have been getting better and better. Also, I roll putts with my Blast golf sensor 4-5 nights a week for about 100 putts each time so it is all clicking. Anyway, look at this rollercoaster score card: I caught fire on #3 which is the hardest hole on the golf course (445 yd par 4). And, honestly, I wasn't really aware of where I was scorewise until I birdied 7 and I was like "well...I think I am getting uncomfortable now..." To birdie 8 and then steer it home on 9 knowing I was cruising under par was a great feeling. All my birdie putts made were between 6-15 feet. The bogey I made on #6 was a great save as well. I hit a drive that was right on the rough line for a really squirrely lie. Hit what I thought was a perfect shot that flew on me and plugged in the back of a bunker. Had to gouge it out to 50 ft and 2 putt from there. Once I did that I felt like the rest of the round was easy. It won't always be this good (or ever again?) so I want to really enjoy this feeling. I have been practicing my short game furiously and this was the culmination of that preparation and practice. Thanks for indulging me!

  50. short answer: Yes. Longer answer: Distance is a combination of swing speed and resulting ball speed. Some people swing a shorter shaft faster and some slower, but it you are able to hit the center more reliably you will get higher balls speeds than off a mishit which could result in more distance.
