Moonshine the night before golf is a recipe to potentially lose some of my family members. You definitely didn't shine on the course. Tis the season to be generous. You can blame me if it makes you feel better. I can take it. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for welcoming me into your community and listening to me talk about my golf game. I have a few good buddies I golf with but none that want to listen to me talk about golf all day long. Merry Christmas again. Hope you all are having a good one.

    Christmas haul

Wife got some cleaning gear l (thanks @GolfSpy_BOSfor putting bugs in her ear) desperately needed a new waffle towel but really wanted to get one of the cleaning tools and wifey pulled through. as for my son he was the real winner today. Hauling in a new set (he transferred all gear and unwrapped the new clubs within 10 minutes and was chipping foam balls after….God bless him) he also cashed in on some new balls, glove, tees and foam balls from Grammy and Pepere.

  41. I did get a new life preserver. The snorkel is on back order. I didn't want tanks and such. I don't plan on being down there that long. I'm trying to be nice for Christmas but! If you guys didn't hit me in the water in the first place I wouldn't need any of it.

  42. Have to say i really appreciate this message. It really doesn't take much to set a lineup and with so many ppl wanting to take part it really sucks when teams go MIA. Not just for the competitiveness of the league but also trading and overall engagement. Only question I have is if there are any will it be a option as was last season to replace a owner midseason?

  43. Merry Christmas all. Won an ebay auction for a 699pro 639 cb set this morning. Shafts are wrong... So that necessitated an order from golf works. Then I opened up my SIL present which was a stitch golf gift card... A big one. So Combined with a discount code I've got an SL2 on the way for $60. I better put my phone down before I break myself...

  45. We hit mid 50's today! After finishing tire rotation and taking one to get a plug I dragged out the mat and hit about 75 wedge shots. After a choppy first batch of 15 where only about 1/2 landed in the target zone I was a steady 12 / 15 at least in the next 4 batches. It has been a few weeks since playing it was fun to swing again. Then I moved on to putting using some new techniques I've been practicing inside on the 4' rule. The speed and face angle control felt good. I need to get to the course and work on speed control and lag putting using the new stroke to see how it works on real grass with different slopes.

    Matte vs Gloss

Wow, that was... all over the place. I grabbed a spray bottle and 6 assorted golf balls, 3 matte, 3 gloss, 2 Surlyn, 4 Urethane. I used my Sub 70 52 Wedge, it isn't fancy like a Ping or Mizuno which both seem to negate the issues that wet balls see. I tried to swing about the same every time, obviously, human and not possible. I ended up hitting about 90y carry shots. So a couple things. The 2 piece balls, are not safe for hitting indoors when wet!! It didn't matter if it was the gloss Titleist Velocity or the Matte Superhot. The launch angle goes through the ceiling... quite literally. I took almost 100 shots in this test. You can decide if that is enough or not enough. But the numbers were pretty interesting across the board. I think I will actually have to test this further with an iron. First the standard bearer, the ProV1: A little higher launch, a little faster and basically identical spin, this was the last of the wet ball testing I did so my swing was probably the most calmed down after the Velocity/Superhot heartbeat check. Next TP5x, another gloss urethane ball. I need to put a real disclaimer on this one. I probably should have retest this at the end. It was the first ball I hit after the Velocity/Superhot and I was afraid to swing... I'm still giving you the averages, you can see that the launch is way up and the spin pretty far down, but my swing speed was in nervous mode. But the launch being that high with club speed down was worth showing. Now to the first of the Matte balls, the Maxfli Tour X: Ball speed, launch angle both up and spin down by about 12%. Carry a little further, total roll out about the same. It looked a lot different coming off the club, but I wouldn't say it was unplayable. Q Star Tour Divide Launched higher, came down stepper... but almost the same in practical terms. Velocity(Gloss)/Superhot(Matte). I only hit 2 superhots and then a single 3/4 velocity. I need more ceiling protection to hit them when wet. My setup is not ready for 40° + launch angles. But the spin on these 2 piece balls falls off a cliff while the launch angle jumps by about 6°. My take away after this... Urethane balls do pretty good when wet. The ProV1(gloss) and the Q Start(Matte) didn't really show much different. The TP5x(gloss) and the Maxfli Tour X(Matte) showed a drop in spin with their increase in launch angle but not to the point that I was concerned and probably not to the point that it would make difference in how I would play a shot on the course. Surlyn cover balls behave very different. I can't tell you how much more drastic the difference was between them being dry and wet. The number above don't tell the whole story. So, my hot take: 2 piece surlyn(glossy or matte) = scary when wet. 3 piece urethane(glossy or matte), good dry or wet regardless of finish. 4+ piece urethane(glossy or matte) seem to lose more spin then 3 piece when wet. tl:dr I'll test more but don't see wet drastically affecting Matte finishes more then Glossy finishes.

  48. ... I would caution those that tie themselves to putting stats, especially putts made to pay more attention to their putts than the number of putts. All 6 footers are not always the same and all putts are obviously not equal. Straight up hill with a very gentle break should be made virtually every time as you can hit your putt just on the edge and know it will break into the hole, maybe 1" or maybe 3" but they will both fall. Downhill with that same gentle break is a little trickier because the downhill can take out break especially on Bermuda and a side hill with that break can also be very difficult. ... I was playing with a high index player yesterday and he had a 20 foot putt that had to ride a tier and the pin was on the bottom of the slope. He said he would have to hit a perfect putt up the tier, almost die on the top of the slope and then turn to the hole. I asked if he would like some advice and he said sure. I told him to ignore the hole and aim about 1 foot underneath the hole on the low side and that would leave him an uphill 2-3 footer that he could make to save a bogie. He replied he didn't play for bogies when he could make pars. Well he hit a decent putt that almost stopped at the top of the tier then turned and ran 8 feet past the hole never getting within a foot of the hole. Extremely difficult putt! I hit a putt from the same spot but underneath the hole and it stopped 2.5 feet from the hole. He said "And that is why you shoot around par and I struggle to break 90. Seeing it actually executed instead of what I hoped for I realize I was a fool to try and make that putt. But to be honest I would never have thought to miss any putt on purpose by aiming away from the hole." ... I would liken it to some days it seems like every shot is a good yardage and other days it seems every shot is between yardages. GIR's under those circumstances can be misleading. So I have always thought a much more reliable stat is how many putts did you miss? Keep track of how many makable short putts you missed and that can mean a straight in 6 footer that doesn't go in would be a miss, while a 4 foot hard breaking putt that doesn't go in is not a miss. Same for long distance. A 40 footer with a gradual break that leaves too long a next putt is not the same as coming over a hump to a downhill, double breaker that leaves too long a next putt. The first is a miss but the second putt a good try and should not be counted as a miss.

  49. Hey guys, wanted to thank you for letting me join your league. My son played last year and all I've heard is how much fun it is. Looking forward to the friendly competition. And don't worry, he told the commish that any potential trade between us should be heavily analyzed for fairness. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

  50. Just putting this out there for everyone, right now this is going to be the biggest league we've ever undertaken on this forum for fantasy sports, but with that comes a double edge sword. I'm not saying this to threaten teams, but to set in the sand what our expectations are of you as players. We'll be busy behind the scenes trying to get everything to work, but if you give up on this league I personally guarantee you won't be asked back or allowed in any other fantasy league we do. Be competitive and try, that's what we ask, if you can't make that low bar, we have no problem cutting you loose at season's end.
