    How'd you play?

Last round of golf for vacay yesterday at Apple Mountain Golf Club in Clarksville, GA. s*** 40/42:82 with a Par 4 Birdie. 11/14 FIR 6/18 GIR and 35 Putts. My shoulder felt better than the other two rounds but my left ankle was hurting so I wore my ankle brace. BTW, we played putt putt three nights and I won two.

Close to breaking 90, shot a 91, my best round to date. Those two triple bogeys really hurt. One of them I just made poor choices. By poor choices, they weren't risky choices, they were just dumb. The dumbest was trying to putt from way too far off the green in April PNW conditions when it had just rained. Ball didn't even make it to the green.

Played Wednesday Big Boy & Friday Bacon Boyz Exec. Wednesday played well, even par thru 7 with 2 birdies. Finished poorly with 2 doubles. I’m blaming the Fireball that was “forced” on me. It was a Birdie fest! Everyone was dropping birds from all over the green. Good morning Friday not so lucky, we had 2 guys that we’re having really mornings. One guy almost took me out, don’t know how he did it. He “hoseled” his 2nd shot BEHIND him and the ball went backwards and missed me by a foot! Starting this coming week backing off some golf and other activities in preparation for my knee replacement June 2nd. Don’t want to screw up now.

  4. My range session today started out the same way as all my practice time had been going today: terribly. My first swing was a nice, beautiful 56° close to the marker and it went downhill from there. I was once again embarrassed not to be rocking a box set of clubs and a hat advertising Nitro balls. It was a shankfest. I finally made the decision to make a gate out of two tees, focusing on not hitting them. I started to see better results immediately. I finally took the gate away and the results spoke for themselves. Driver was pretty good, too. Not perfect, but I'll take it. I finished the day off on the putting green working on speed control and I even sank a 30 footer uphill breaking to the left.

Past TWO years went from about 10 to what was 5.9 at the beginning of the year. My last round took a spot and dropped a 9.6 off. I’m shooting for 3/4 this year…..pray for me! Join the club! There is a line that doesn’t like me bryan has been busting my balls all season because “I have not played with him”. admittedly I play my worst golf against him….he messes with my head

I told my boss that I needed an afternoon today Hit the course with a good friend of mine at noon. It was a very enjoyable time. I hit some really nice, for me, driver shots. My short game was its normal, and did fairly well with long irons. I did not score the best I ever have, but certainly not the worst I ever have! LOL. I do think that changing the grip on my driver to a mid size was a good idea. Giving some thought changing the grips on the rest of my bag to mid size grips.

    How'd you play?

Yesterday was a charity scramble at Canyon Lakes GC in Kennewick, WA. It was put on by the Rotary which my wife is a member and on the golf committee. She put together a team; I told her that she doesn't need an old, fat short hitter for a scramble but she insisted. We played with another couple that we play with at our club. He hits the ball maybe 270-280y with roll, and his wife and my wife both hit around 150-160y with roll. I hit maybe 200-210y. But all guys had to hit from the White tees (6200y) and the ladies hit from the Red tees (5100y). The Red tees on the long holes were 60-110y in front of the White tees. Not sure why I hit off the tee. This course is one of the courses for the PNW MGS outing in June. I'm hitting from the Senior tees!!! Who says you can't buy a game!!! We started on hole #9, a 525y par 5. We had the option of playing the hole as is, or having Troy Teal, a former WLD competitor hit our tee shot, after which our first shot on the hole is where his ball ended up. So, we hit our first shot from 85y... !! My wife put her shot 2 feet from the pin for a kick-in "Albatross". -3 after one hole!! There were other money-raising gimmicks; on the par 5 #3 holes we could pay $20 each and tee up from a circle in the fairway 200y out from the green... I put my ball on the green, but we missed our "Albatross" putt and settled for eagle. The greens at this course are very tricky; lots of slope and quick. All of us had difficult time getting the ball to the hole on long putts uphill. Oh BTW, we each bought 5 mulligans; we used them all and only made one count. We managed a couple of birdies on our own but had one bogey. We ended up -7 which was a tie for 18th out of 35 teams. The good news is that the Rotary Foundation made over $30K for college scholarships for local high school kids.

  12. ... Actually 2 almost identical shots my last 2 rounds. #2 at Aguila is a 515yd par 5 that plays a little downhill off the tee and uphill to the green. Both days with about an 8mph wind at my back I had 195 to the pin. Day 1 I hit a 5 iron to a front pin and had 6 feet that I made for eagle. Day 2 I hit a 4 iron to mid pin, hit it to 15 feet and missed the eagle but had a tap in birdie. At my age, reaching a 515yd par 5 in two with an iron is just such a rewarding feeling.

Shot 82 again today. Interestingly, yesterdays 82 was 41/41....todays was 41/41 .... more interestingly, all 4 41s contained one birdie and one double bogey.

  15. I'd posted in another thread about my trusty TM Stage 2 Tour hybrid dying. Went shopping yesterday for a replacement. Had thought about picking up a Cobra King Tec, or possibly a Ping G410. Was at 2nd Swing yesterday, had the Ping in hand, then saw a new in plastic Tour Edge CBX 17*, with the HZRDUS shaft in stiff. And, priced some $70 cheaper than the somewhat worn G410. So I now have a CBX hybrid to use in that slot. Put a leather grip on it last night, it's ready for the likely rainy men's club round I have ahead of me tomorrow morning...

  16. Probably my tee shot on 17 yesterday. I had missed a 3’ for birdie two holes prior and was waiting on a group in front of me so I’d load a little momentum. They waited on 17 tee for me so I could play through. Super cordial and I had even mentioned I’m content to wait, it’s so relaxing today. Instead they said go ahead and hit. I had 143 into the wind and chose a nice soft cut 8. Depending upon who you ask, this was my putt. Let’s say 6’ Made my 3.

  17. Accidentally replicated this (the divot) today Yes, I really did take a divot just about that long. Was 80 yards out, had been raining so the fairways were wet, hit a full 58 degree wedge. Hit it flush, took the large long divot, ball came out pretty high with a lot of spin, landed and took a small hop in the air after it landed and stayed in the same spot, 3 feet from the hole. Was playing with a guy that I play with frequently and he was like "how did you do that". I really have no idea. Usually if I take a divot that big, the ball goes like 5 yards.

  20. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? First round was at 18. Loved it, but I was horrible for the next 30 years. I mean horrible! Then my son wanted to play so we took lessons together. Handicap is 16.7 and shoot somewhere between high 80's and low 90's. What do you love about golf? I swear it is the only time I don't think about work. Its also the only time I get 4 hours of uninterrupted time with my teenage son What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I was hooked by the "no putts given" podcast, though I do miss last years format. Where are you from? What is your home course? Live in Boise Idaho area. Play them all. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? No golf in the winter What do you do for a living? Director of Operations for a restaurant franchise. How’d you pick your user name? Been a Dolphins fan as long as I can remember. Maybe that's why I can handle the disappointments in my golf game so well

@bens197inspired me to get a quick 9 in. Wind was swirling in and out with some serious gusts but it was sunny and extremely pleasant to play weather wise actually. +3 (38) with 2 bookend doubles, 6 pars and a bird……the doubles were bad misjudgements and the greens were pretty hard and not receptive. Tale of the day was bombs off the day, wind helped on 1 but I had 5 drives over 280….. putting saved me a couple times as usual. Absolutely in love with EvNROLL I was very happy because I was making the shots I wanted but the wind definitly carried some balls further than I anticipated and the back of these greens are death.

Weather is nice today; upper 50s, though overcast and 15ish mph winds. Owen and I had enough time to walk the front nine at River Heights. Swapped out one of my wedges for a C3I 65° wedge I picked up from goodwill the other day. It's a pretty awesome club. Tried it out a bunch today and other than thinning one into oblivion I was very happy with it. Going to stay in the bag this season for sure. Overall my ball striking was good today other than totally duffing an 8 iron. I'm starting to regularly overshoot the green on long approaches, which is a good thing. I just need to mentally catch up to that reality. Putting was absolutely horrendous. Sometimes I misread the break, sometimes my stroke was offline, sometimes my speed was off, and oftentimes it was a combination of all three, lol. Shot a 49 that I'm pretty happy with. Owen beat me by a few strokes, but that's to be expected!

I would say as long as you can find a place to clip it that's a little less busy you should be okay. I had it clipped towards the front quite a bit so I found that my shirt occasionally got in the way and it was easy to bump with my hands or golf club. If it were a little more to the side it'd probably be just fine, but then you need to be a little more conscious of it getting in and out of a cart and walking around in certain places.

My old RBZ irons I have been wanting to replace are in the pictures as well, they are a regular shaft and I should have at least changed the shaft years ago. My new irons: Taylormade p770 4-P.

  26. Putting - Went to the course and spent about 1 1/2 hours working on building some feels with the LAB putter. I was going through my full routine with all the putts (as I should) and using 1 ball. Dropped a ball, made a read, and holed out the putt. By the end of my session I felt pretty good about how I was rolling the ball.

  27. Well, the Callaway Epic Max 3W came on Thursday but too late to take it out for a spin. Then on Friday my wife and I played in a charity scramble so I took it; why not, we weren't going to use many of my shots anyway. Wowsers! This is by far the easiest 3W I have ever hit off turf... I need more time with it though! It also is longer than my Heavenwood, so this could completely change the top end of my bag. I may need one more club in the 23-25º range; maybe 9W or a hybrid.

  28. I've done that before too. I remember playing a course in Summerville SC and it was in less than desirable shape. I striped a ball right down the middle of the fairway and the fairway was so bad that I couldn't locate the ball! Never played that course again, either! LOL

  31. We had a Dr who used to spend way too much time looking for balls at every creek & pond on the course. His buddies got him back during their yearly golf trip to Myrtle Beach. They saved cut surlyn golf balls all year, then the front group at Myrtle seeded every waterway with cut balls. Thrilled to find a ball then pissed to discover it was cut, they said he cussed his head off the entire trip. No one ever told him.

  32. Not so great round 55 (includes a 9 on the last and an 8 on #2). positives: no three putts. My last 45 holes I’ve only had one three putt. Hit the super off the deck real well on a par 5. Got rid of driver hooks. Had a 33ft par putt that was money! Tied my neighbor on three holes (he is a former d1 player so he is my measuring stick) negatives : had too much tape on driver. Gonna settle half way as my pull hooks were now killer fades. Chunky on a lot of shots but that’s ok. That’s my swing shallowing. Need to work on low point once that is ingrained. Long clubs still an issue. Work in progress. overall a beautiful 55* day. Birds were out and life is good.

I was also a big fan of the "thrill of the hunt" and would play whatever I could find if I couldn't find mine. I've lost 8-10 on an early round this season but recently it's been between 1 and 5.

  42. I got out at lunch to hit a bucket, the grass section of the range was open but a little wet. Didn't matter too much to me so I went down and had the whole section to myself, although I had to give my irons and wedges a thorough cleaning after nearly every shot. Contact was really solid which was nice to see for only having been to the range a few times and this was my first session not hitting off of mats. Not sure if my aim was off or what but most shots, especially with irons, were to the left. Great flight, but just left of target. Driver was low but straight so I'll take that. Should be in OK shape for the scramble on Sunday.

  43. I had that happen as well. I was too stingy with the solvent. Now I apply solvent like a 4 year old cut loose in the house with a fresh gallon paint. I capture the excess in a paint tray and pour back into the bottle.

  44. I loose 1.4 per round. The course usually plays the biggest factor. Slope of 125 or less, probably not gonna loose one. Slope closer to 145, especially water heavy, odds are im gonna loose a couple 2-5. My group of guys live on opposite corners of town so we bounce around a lot.
    2 points
  45. When I first started playing I probably lost 3-6 per round so I was always happy to find others while searching for mine. Today it’s not uncommon for me to lose 1 or 2 each round but, as of late I have been pretty good about keeping all of mine. Probably just jinxed myself for the next round….. I have to agree with previous statements that losing them in the water or OB is part of the game but, losing one in the rough when you know that it’s right there is frustrating.

Not someone at a bar you don't know and after a couple of drinks in a disagreement, you may be far less than cordial. These latter members either make it to my "I just don't read their replies" or if consistently egregious, my ignore list.
