  1. Gave an assist to my brother and sister this weekend. brother is finishing his basement and helped frame out the walls: My sister just had a new bathroom installed but only had the electrical roughed, got tasked with the finish. Need to head back and do the breakers but good to go otherwise: ‘Next is my house but only moving stuff to storage

  2. Honestly it isn't that bad. Stay objective, take input from other mods, use the info we have available to us and good to go. Those who complain about not being selected, well usually there is a good reason. There are tons of emails of pick me pick me or why do I never get picked, but that's a big reason why i created this thread. To point them here and hopefully have them figure out themselves as to the why!

    How'd you play?

Hosted my annual Buddy Trip last week(Thur-Sun) for 16 players, including me. I rented 4 4 bedroom houses and we played a different course every day. Thursday…North Shore GC. Shot 88…always a great course. Friday…Stonegate at Sola Vita-Cypress course. Shot 91…disappointed with course conditions We also played the Oaks course front 9 twice as a team scramble…lotta fun. Saturday…Falcon’s Fire GC. Shot 92….awesome course Sunday…Hawk’s Landing GC. Shot 92…somewhat disappointed as the fairways used to be covered with grass. Overall, we had terrific weather and all had a great time except for one player. He was driving back to the rental houses Thursday afternoon and was sideswiped by an Audi on the turnpike. His car was totaled and the Audi drove off never stopping. Sore and bruised, he did play Sat & Sun but could not turn to hit his driver…

  5. My Tuesday 9 started off horribly. It was a bit chilly at 53° and winds. Nothing seemed to work on the first 2 holes. But things fortunately improved as the round went on. My driver miss today remains to the left which is a marked difference from a horrible slice last season. Putting was completely gone today. Three 3 putts, one 1 putt and the rest were 2 putts. The positive take away was my misses now don’t result with lost balls. I still have a real difficult time with uneven lies. But I was able to get out and have fun.

  6. Replaced the broken storm drain, 7.5 feet deep. Proud of myself that I was just about spot in when I marked it with the sewer camera and locator. Only problem is it has been collapsed for years so lots of sediment build up that we weren’t able to snake through. Had the city out yesterday and we are back on track with water flowing the length of the pipe. Next week we test out the driveway and attach the line gutter that isn’t tied in. So far the repair only cost me an expensive bottle of bourbon! It’s all about who you know lol

Played a very consistent round on Saturday with @TR1PTIK . Course management, played the percentages and didn't get greedy even thou i could easily have on some holes. Happy with most of my game, continue to drive the ball well, Irons are still a little thin for whatever reason. But not getting me in trouble. Wedges and Putter are steady. Sub70 5 Wood is absolute money, it will stay in the bag for this weekend tournaments. Holes, 13/14 lack of concentration.. I was on the fringe in 3, try to get cute with a chip, resulted in a slick down hill putt that ended 15ft. Then on 14th fried egg, not getting out, blasted to end of the green. But then settle down and back to normal operations.

H4 mini-review after playing about a week with it: Pros: Exactly what I wanted - a manual, tagging-based system. The integrated GPS is an added bonus and one that I've used surprisingly often. Small and very lightweight. (Also a con, see below.) Synchronization in the mobile app is really simple. Battery life appears to be good, at least good enough for 45 holes or so. Cons: The non-standard "clip" charger is annoying. I understand that USB is not ideal due to debris and water problems, but it would be nice to have some sort of standardized charging interface. Small and very lightweight. So much so that you can misplace it or have it knocked from your belt without noticing. The magnet that holds the unit to the belt clip is not overly strong. You could certainly bump the unit out of the cradle. I've been using a rubber band to secure it. GPS signal takes some time to lock in, though I remember this being the same with the v2 watch. It is far too easy to turn the unit on when you don't want to. A dedicated power button (or at least requiring a long press) would be nice as it would be much harder to accidentally drain the battery (which has happened twice to me now already). Overall, a very solid unit. I have had some course mapping issues and ShotScope has been very responsive to support requests. The dashboard is good, obviously lagging just a touch to Arccos but I really don't care. I don't really look at the metrics too much, I just like to look back on rounds and occasionally score Internet points with long drives .

    How'd you play?

League night was interesting yesterday. Some heavy storms rolled through CNY in the afternoon, but there was a break in the weather and the league officials wanted to give it a go as scheduled. Rain started on my second hole and got heavy by the time we got to the green. Group ahead of us was playing incredibly slow and I was staring down a miserable round... until the horn blew halfway down the third hole, still plenty close to the clubhouse. League called it for the night and after a round at the bar my buddy asks if I wanted to sneak in a few more holes. Wind was still whipping but the rain had stopped and looked like we were in the clear. Pro shop just wanted us back by 7:30 so we hopped out and got my last 7 holes in. Ended up being a great time and the rain held off. Didn't keep score but played okay. Was only the 2nd time my playing partner had seen that side of the course so was able to give him a ton of tips on where the best places to miss it were. Shot of the round was a 150 yd. 9-iron that I stuck to 18 inches on a par three... After I re-teed out of anger at chunking my first tee shot 90 yards. Just glad I didn't dunk it.

  12. I also made use of the forum info on the tracker devices and pulled the trigger on an H4 a few days ago. Based on shipment tracking I think it will be delivered today and I can try it out in league play tonight. Thank you to those who shared their experience and info on this and the other threads.

  15. I try and post relevant numbers for many and we try and also post this thread in the test to get people to understand the process and what we do. It can *sometimes* help with emails of why didn't I get picked and so on. However I'm glad you found it helpful and insightful. You are completley correct in thinking it is so easy to see it as 5000+ applicants and it being pretty daunting, but yeah typically the most that have a post count that is relevant is about 200 or so. Then add in those who don't have a profile photo and cuts it down again. FWIW, no profile photo no selection. That is a simple clear standard we have and does help us filter a little easier too. So knock off another 20% or so. Then yes we do look at ratio. Reason being there are many that may only post in testing thread (less now with the new way of selection, but still) and we prefer to see activity in a few areas of the forum even if it is testing that brings someone to the forum. It was mentioned at one point, but ites pretty easy to see when someone only posts in tests and only ever just signs up for testing. Which is fine, however we would love to see more cross forum participation. I was brought by testing in the beginning and ended up pursuing a leadership position which I am very happy to be in and help this great community where possible.

  16. ... You can pick the odds. You can go with your gut. You can take your chances with a long shot. Or you can just pick your favorite players. I have done them all. Every day is different and you never really know how you or anyone else will play in any given round. Never has the cliche applied more than a pick your Major winner: "I'd rather be lucky than good".

  17. Unfortunately in forums people can read and take context in different lights. I choose to believe "good" doesn't directly correlate to positive. Maybe my wording should have been more concise? In any case some will choose to pick away, which is fine. We are an open forum and feedback is appreciated. That being said we will do our best to continue to educate our membership on how and what we do. We will also continue to try and improve our system as time goes on as who knows what future tests will require or need in order to be considered a tester.

  18. Today’s shot of the day was a 141 yard 7 iron from the rough to the green, to 15ft, fronted by water on my nemesis hole, a 517 yard par 5. For me this hole is a success if I don’t lose a ball.

  19. I will take this one for myself and if I get flagged so be it. Are you that bent that you want to nitpick that in the context of what @GolfSpy_APHhas written in his well thought out and frankly too nice of a response, that the only thing you can focus on is the word 'good'? You knew what he meant and in an effort to promote your own belief you take it and twist it to fit into that context. I will bet that not one other member that has been reading through this thread came even close to taking it in the way you want them to. I hope you continue to hit them where you want and enjoy the game for years to come.

  22. Had some free time this afternoon, so naturally I went to the range. I wanted to see if I could continue with good swings. By some miracle, I continued striping it it. The pro stopped by, and we chatted about my success with full swing. He wanted to see my chipping. Again it was a quick fix for him. I naturally keep the face open, he worked on getting it square and slowing my tempo. Game changer! My chipping was much better. Should transfer into full swings and continue to make me better.

  25. 2 Hybrid off the deck 242 yards… had it released it would have been off the left side of the green and longer than my drive, it actually backed up a foot with the mushy fairways. I cropped out the score because it is incorrect and I don’t feel like editing it. This is a par 5.

    Fixing ball marks properly

... I am still amazed at how many good players repair their ball marks improperly. The most egregious being lifting the turf underneath instead of pulling from the edges. I have played with high school, college and even mini tour players that dig and lift, breaking the roots and killing the grass leaving those brown spots on greens. The worst part is they are trying to do the right thing but have never been educated. I think it is a good idea to post a refresher every now and then so here ya go:

  27. I stumbled onto this YT video while researching LM's and thought you might enjoy it. I haven't checked to see if this guy has done this format with other tour players, but it's kind of cool getting a peek into their off the course life. That is a indeed a gorgeous boat. Cam, I know, is a big time saltwater fly fisherman.... which is partly why I drafted him on my FTx Team. The other part is that he's really damn good at golf .

Must be breeding season or egg laying time or something. I had two turtles on my course on Sunday and I haven't seen any in the past 16 years there. I couldn't move the ones I saw as they were as big as a a seat cushion. Also snapping turtles. I give them a wide birth. Heck they didn't get that big without them knowing where they were going!

  29. You are right we don't know you. We don't know what research you have done. Now let's flip that. You don't know anyone that is doing any of the tests, you don't know the mods, and you probably don't know personally anyone else on this forum, and yet you seem to be ok with making assumptions about everyone here. That too, should be laughable at best. This is a place that I have only recently discovered since my return to golf and I have found it to be very helpful. I have found the members to be both knowledgeable and fun to converse with. The reviews and the other member knowledge has led me to change my mind about some purchases I was looking into and I am very happy with that. The mods do their best to accommodate and facilitate what I am sure is not an easy task. Give the mods a break and if you find that what is being done here at MGS and by the mods and other members not to your liking, cool, but don't assume that you know what they are doing. Should you get picked to do a review, I hope that you give as GOOD a review as everyone who has come before you.

  30. PGA Championship Major Theme coming live in the next few minutes (I will admit it isn't perfect, but still has a nice look). This is a temp theme for the week of the PGA Championship! Following the end of the round it will be gone till next year! Didn't know we had different themes? Scroll to the bottom of your page, select theme and see the variety of different looks we have for your personal preference! Spice up your experience and try out a theme or two and see if there is one you like more than others.

  31. Range work and some simulated holes. Driver strikes were great but realized I’m early extending. I just need to keep grinding on drills with my coach to get my mechanics better. Irons started rough and then got better during the hole simulation. Then ten minutes on the green just working on lag putting and using only ball.

  32. I lived in London for two years. On my teams I worked with people from 4 different continents (none of them North America). Many people had been to Riyadh, Jeddah, Saleh, etc on vacation . They are not bad people for going there and spending money but it is just more common for them to go there and spend money. It is more normalized for them. Yes, I cannot speak for the rest of the world but Saudi money and investment is more prevalent in the UK and Europe. There is a ton of commercial real estate investment and well as private equity backing that is just a part of, especially but not exclusively, the London Finance scene. But maybe I am just a moron and you can tell me more about it.

  33. I think the "growing the game" is code for "getting a piece of the pie". The PGA does not have exclusive rights to the worlds business of professional golf. Whether it be LIV/Shark Tour now or another country/entity attempting to stand-up a competing tour in the future, free market competition is always a possibility. Whether they can actually compete and take a piece of the pie remains to be seen but, free market businesses will always face competition and no one that can pass a fog the mirror test should be surprised that it is all about the money. Great points have been made as to the double standard being applied to the Saudi's... plenty of wretched history to go around. Also, why is golf being singled out and not Formula 1 racing, boxing, soccer, or other sports in which Saudi $$$$ runs deep?

  35. Lessons!! Another thing i would add to the list would be a wrist style gps so you know your yardages on the course, or a laser. I am personally pretty leery of radar based launch monitors indoors unless to have a TON of room. They are finicky and inaccurate in doors in MY EXPERIENCE (my space is 20x20x9.5). Outdoors theyre pretty close, but then if your hitting range balls youre numbers will be skewed compared to the ball your gaming.

  36. There is about 8 different ones; I have only watched the Marc Leishmann one since his house is in Virginia Beach which is about 40 minutes from my house. https://www.youtube.com/c/PGAMemes/videos

  37. Personally, I would go a couple of lessons (approx $200 to $250) and then use the information that you learn there and maybe upgrade your most pressing need from there. You may not be able to get the latest and greatest of anything, but you should still be able to get something that will be able to give you a better shot in any given round.
    3 points
  38. My gut reaction is a combo of some of the above items. My first question would be where do you lose strokes on the course? Basically how well do you hit the ball... issues off the tee, issues with your irons, issues with short game, issues with putting? If you are able to get the ball off the ground fairly consistently I'd probably get some lessons and advice on clubs. If you struggle hitting the ball, it might make sense to find some clubs that are easier to hit and take some lessons.

  39. I think that is where the biggest issue comes. This from nearly every angle isn't growing the game. It is causing more division then growth. Maybe it is getting more ppl talking about golf, but not likely in the proper light. For me growth comes from grass roots and working its way up from there. Yes, the top can influence growth in ways, but true stable growth comes from grass roots. Again my own opinion. It's not even as though this will get a huge audience as they weren't able to sell the broadcast rights to anyone big and it will be streamed on YouTube as I've heard. The Netflix PGA drive to survive type series will certainly do more to "grow the game" then this league which put simply again to me, paying millions more to millionaires just doesn't have the appeal to me. Not saying the regular PGA is something I love to watch, but I do tune on each week to see how things are going (mainly due to our fantasy league).

  41. Well I did it. I pulled the trigger last night on Shot Scope V3 Black w/ 16 trackers. Can't wait until it arrives. Thanks again to EVERYONE that has posted here both positive and negative. I was able to get a lot of insight into the different tracker systems and GPS devices on MGS and was ultimately swayed by the users in this group. Looking forward to my first round with the system to see how it goes.

  42. I had two yesterday. The first was a chip in from a missed long left approach on a par 5. Landed on the fringe and found the bottom of the hole. First eagle of the day. The shot of the day though was on 16 in our scramble we had 223 to a front pin. 3rd guy hit a gorgeous 3w to 6’ I chose a 3 iron and hit mine to 4’ Didnt mean to steal his thunder but we all agreed, the eagle 3 felt great.
