Wife's grandfather went to the VA, who promptly sent him to the ER, and he's now been in the hospital for a week getting blood transfusions. Had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday and they're waiting for the results, but it's more than likely leukemia. Apparently there are different levels of severity of leukemia, and he's 87, so exactly how to treat him is still TBD based on the results of the biopsy. We're still in Nebraska (the move is in 3 weeks), so my wife flew back to PA to visit with him and to help her grandmother and mother with some of the difficult decisions that lay ahead. Quite the monkey-wrench overall...golf trip with the buddies and my promotion ceremony next week both now cancelled, and moving prep has to begin in earnest since I'll be here solo for a good stretch. All VERY small inconveniences when measured against the larger context of things overall, just venting the stress of it all I guess.

    How'd you play?

... Finally got in 18 holes today. Not much energy and still tired and hard to believe it has been 3 weeks since coming down with this $%^&%$* sinus infection. First surprise was I tried to play Monday and only got thru 7 holes and mentioned that to one of the guys in the clubhouse (they all know me since I play 5 times a week) and Michael only charged me for 9 holes today without me asking. Nice start to my day. Then I was playing new irons, new shafts and a new driver with a new shaft. 20-25 mph winds but with the temps near 100* not a bad thing really. ... I really liked the LTDx Black with the LinQ White shaft but struggled with the KBS TGi shafts in my new Forged Tec irons. 5-pw with a FT-X 4 iron that was silly long off the tee and from the fairway and set me up for an eagle putt just over the 2nd green. I need to weaken it 2* and match the specs for the FT 4 iron. The FT's performed well but the TGi shafts just feels very brittle and stiff, unlike any graphite irons shafts I have played. Not sure if I was making poor contact, although all my par 3 shots had the tee mark in the center of the face, or the shafts are just very different because as I said, I felt a little weak and tired all round long. I am going to give them a few more rounds and then if the feel doesn't improve, I will re-shaft with Steelfibers similar to what I have in my MIM irons. Love that combo. 3 birdies and 2 bogies so 1 under par while still feeling under the weather gives me nothing to complain about. Resting this weekend then hopefully a little more energy for Mondays round!

Went to my Doc yesterday for final sign off on knee replacement surgery June 2nd and no go. They found a problem with the EKG and he’s sending me to a Cardiologist. Huge disappointment. Nothing is easy.

  4. Took my son out for his first 9 of the year. He played really well first time out. Struggled here and there but had some real gems. Of those a chip in for par on the 3rd hole! he later had a really good drive best of the day on hole 5 and I said “wow buddy best shot of the day” he corrected me and said I think my chip in was better”….I stand corrected kid. we had some good room on the Course and we did some putting/green reading and some sand work….he surprisingly picked up on the sand shot pretty quick. All in all he had a great day. as for me +3 but the highlight of the day you ask? When the starter asked him “so are you going to beat your dad today?” And he proceeded to answer “well he is getting old so maybe”…..I proceeded with this off the tee: the starter quickly responded with “you got a few years kid”….damn right he does. was a great day and can’t wait to get more rounds in with him through the year

    How'd you play?

Headed out today for an early Friday twilight game with coworkers for 18. First time I have played a full 18 in a LONG LONG LONG time. Walked the course instead of riding despite the hills. I did have a few high points with some drives that were ahead of the others by 20 to 40 yards, a couple of good putts from longer than 6 feet, and topped off with one birdie and two pars. Then there was everything else. My consistency is no where near where I want it to be, too many scatter shots. My short game needs me to practice and try to get back the one part of my game I was most proud of. I have a lot of work to get me back to where I was before I stepped away from the game, but even though I topped too many, three putted more than I would like, and had the worst score of the foursome, I was very happy to be back on the course and in the fresh air. Now if only the SW Idaho area can keep the weather at a level where it is comfortable to be out for 4 hours in the high desert air.

    How'd you play?

Headed out of work to play 9 before dinner this afternoon, but I played pretty terribly. I was hitting my 3 wood well off the tee, but was fighting my irons, and poor green conditions took away the part of my game I can pretty much always depend on. I think I just need some range time to work out the kinks, because it feels like I’m close to where I need to be.

Sad to hear. A few years ago I had foot surgery. A week before before surgery, I had to go to the hospital for an EKG; checked out OK. Early in the morning of the surgery when I was getting prepped at a surgery center, the anesthesiologist came in and talked... checked my heart. He had the staff hook up an EKG machine (after they dusted it off and untangled the wires); couldn't get a good reading, so he said the surgery was off and that I needed to go to the hospital immediately! I felt fine. Since I hadn't eaten since mid-day the day before, I stopped for breakfast. When I got to the hospital, they ran an EKG and a heart doc said that anesthesiologist shouldn't be reading heartbeats. Personally, I think he wanted the morning off; maybe he had a tee time. It took a month to reschedule the surgery, and I didn't have him that time.

    How'd you play?

Perfect conditions today, barely a breathe of wind, a very rare occurrence. Best round for quite a while. Started really well, 2 over after 9, 8 pars and a double. Driver was working, perhaps the best round with the driver I’ve ever had. Started the back 9 well, with 2 birdies, one after hitting my approach to 2 feet, then chipped in on the next. After that things went backwards. I’m blaming the appalling cover band at the winery next door that started up when we reached the 12th tee. Double, double, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey and a par to finish was a bit disappointing. After my recent lack of golf and poor form pretty happy with how I played.

On the clubhouse being hit, seen the roof being hit and balls ending in the car park but never seen a window hit. I've learnt over time where not to park my car.

  14. Had a great time today in the golf tournment I was invited to play in yesterday. My driver issues that crept in the last two weeks disappeared. I was hitting straight and long today. I hit all but 1 fairway so I was pretty happy. Irons and putting were good. Mr. Dependable showed up to play today. We played in a scramble format with 1 mulligan and 1 red tee per person. The team suggested to use a red tee on one hole which left 250 to the green. I said it's mine, I'll put it on the green! I teed it up put a good swing on it and it disappeared over the hill heading online to its target. We drove down and it was sitting just past the flag by around 10 feet. My putt lipped out and sat on the edge. That would have been a good one to have but nobody made their attempt either. But we were respectable with shooting 12 under. No bogies. We were out of the money but 6th place wasn't bad out of 18 teams. Good company, great weather, good golf. What else can you ask for. I hope I bring this game to Myrtle Beach next week. You never know who will show up.

  15. For the last 8 years it was Inwood CC on Long Island. Now that I am mostly full time in VA I play out of Royal New Kent in Providence Forge, VA. Course is a Mike Strantz design and plays a shade under 7,500 yards off the back tees with a slop and rating of 76.8/154. Fun place that always seems to play a bit differently with each round and certainly a challenge. For the membership cost it is really hard to beat and a welcome change from what I was paying up north. I would post some pictures but I can't do the course justice with my terrible photography skills, so here are a few stock photos.

Very sad to hear that. Life throws us all kinds of curves, and how we handle it defines our character. It sound like you are doing what you can and putting the important things first. Best of luck to you and you are in our prayers.

    Home "Improvement"

Filled the pool up today because it’s going to be 90 the next two days and it’s nearly June so why not. Knew I needed a new pump and filter, bought the house with the pool and don’t know how old they are. Both are leaking from areas so I’m going to try it again tomorrow and see if I can get it to stop leaking. If not the new filter and pump are getting ordered tomorrow night. Minor setback at best knew I needed them was just pushing it off. On the good new side, my neighbor is fixing the dilapidated garage he just purchased. He knew it needed work but not as much as he is doing. Walls were rotted, roof rotted, roof collapsing in on itself. He told me he wanted to tear it down and put up a pole building but the town has stupid codes that he needs a retention pond for any building like that???? What????

  23. My Home Course is a public gem here in the Philly suburbs. Jeffersonville Golf club is an original Donald Ross design that opened in 1931 that is owned and operated by our township. As I live in the township I am one of the privileged few that can buy an annual pass. Here are a few of my pics I've taken though the past couple of years. If you wanna see more profession shots then go here: https://www.instagram.com/jeffersonvillegolf/

  30. First round this morning with the Ventus TR. It was only 48* and I couldn’t really get loose but I only hit one shot with the TR/Single Diamond Mav left. Every other shot was a fade/push fade. It took about 10 holes to get comfortable enough to aim at the left side of the fairway. Distance was still close to what I normally see so I have big expectations for when it warms up.
