  1. so i had purchased a maltby KE 4 max for myself and built it with a steelfiber i95CW R shaft. always been skeptical of maltby clubs but just hit it today in the backyard and was hitting it flush and i could tell with a straighter starting line than my Mizunos.

  2. Neither one should get to keep the ball. It should go to one of us so we can get out of this thread. Just saying.

    How'd you play?

Paid Bent Brook again today. Shot 42/43 for 85, which isn’t bad for me, but still feel like I’m leaving a lot to be desired, especially with long iron ball striking. Had 7 sand shots today which doesn't help. Only got up and down on 1 of those. Drove it great though hitting 9/14 fairways and 3 of the 5 misses were basically 1st cut. Putted ok but missed a lot on the low side, couldn’t get the line right but had the speed most of the day. Got to walk today and played a few holes in some light rain, which was actually fun and cooled things off in the Alabama heat.

  4. Saw this a few minutes ago. Obviously it isn't the player or the clubs; it is the ball. I just haven't found the right ball nor do I lose enough balls.

    How'd you play?

40/44 at Beaverhead GC today. I had to go to Dillon anyway to pick up some irrigation equipment and hate to waste the trip their or to Bozeman w/o trying to get a round in. Crazy scoring. 3 birdies but 3 DB's. Just one of those rounds where several really well hit drives ended up with part of a tree limb or tree-line to contend with. I mean a yard forward or left or right and it's wide open... so aggravating this game we play. There is no way Kenny wastes a perfectly good piece of bacon for 20 yards.

Pretty stressed out at the moment. I could potentially be up for promotion in the summer of 2023, so that process starts one year out, which is now. Gotta get a bunch of stuff together.

  7. So the last of our pack of 3 hope decided it was a good weekend (last week) to get sick. She was throwing up her food, couldn’t hold anything down. Ended up going to the vet after a day and they did scans and found a “mass”. We ended up going to an animal hospital that evening and just missed the ultrasound folks (place was an hour away) so she got fluids for the night and some medicine to help her not throw up that night. went back the next morning to find out it wasn’t a tumor in her stomach but something “cloth like”….better than a tumor but needed surgery because she wasn’t going to pass it. Surgery was successful and was ended up being a sick (this dog of 10 years old has never been interested in clothing a day in her life) but here we were the weekend of a final push to get our house ready for market…..we made the deadline and she’s happy and sock free. tender going up and down stairs and isn’t eating full meals yet but just happy we have her for a little longer. Wasn’t ready to lose another yet. She’s back to helping the kids pick strawberries today

  9. Had to be the up and down on 5 today. 397 from an elevated tee and I slapped a 3 iron that landed immediately next to a fairway bunker. The super likes to grow some of the heather grass around certain sides of these traps so I am trying to just hack a PW down towards the green as best as possible. It left me with a 40 yard pitch that landed into a plug and bounced out. So now I have a mud ball with a downhill lie to an elevated and crowned green thats shaped like a half dome. Pin is back left and I hit a beauty of a pitch that landed once and somehow managed to spin and land maybe 6' above the hole. Sunk the putt for my 4 and RAN to the 6th tee box...

  10. Ordered some stuff to build for my father in-law. He currently has a beginner set of irons which is fine, but he needs something with lighter weight shafts. Ordered some Maltby M890 heads, a fat sole Maltby wedge, and some Maltby M890 graphite shafts. Also ordered a Ping G410 Max driver for him, got a good deal on it. It will have an Alta soft regular but will probably put an even lighter shaft in it, probably a Fuji Air Speeder. Usually we say everyone should get fitted, but he is the golfer that really is not good enough to get fitted. Our goal is for him to 1) make contact with the ball and not whiff and 2) the ball moves somewhere forward towards the hole, 3) hopefully he will be able to hit bunker shots himself (when he is in the bunker, i currently hit his bunker shot for him or toss it out lol). his current beginner set is a bit on the heavy side and has steel shafts, so just want to get him something lighter with graphite shafts.

    How'd you play?

Driving and iron play was decent, putting not so much. Got a couple of bad breaks that cost me ... 2 buried sand lies, struck wrong ball, lip outs. Ended up with 84. No birdies today and I think I had 3 (maybe 4) doubles. The course is still wet enough for the balls to pick up mud, but we're playing the ball down.

    How'd you play?

Played with my old buddy yesterday afternoon. He plays in some competitions which forces him to play from the black tees, so we played there. I shot a pretty clean 76, in spite of the extra length, which basically means my longer irons were in play a bit more. Soooo, kudos to my new irons again, the p770’s are working! Not to mention no 3 putts either. That’s very helpful too

  15. How's the overall feel? I'm considering building my dad a set of these. He's been loving the Sti2's with the MPF shafts that I built him last year so I'm hesitating building him another set.. but he could always use a little more help so that's why I'm interested in these. BTW.. welcome to the Maltby club

  16. New shoes arrived yesterday. Four days later than expected but, better late than never. Anyways, Footjoy Fuels in white/black. I really wanted an all black version but was unwilling to spend another $30 for the all black BOAs. Who knows, maybe I’ll be so impressed that I have to splurge for the BOAs later on. I tossed in a new set of insoles last night and walked around the house a bit with them. Quite comfortable. These are my first spikeless shoes, looking forward to giving them a shot on course.

    Lie Board Test

Not sure there are really any other ways other than maybe the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer which is supposed to provide a lie angle. I've seen people comment that GCQuads aren't accurate since the dots get hidden by the ball at impact. The sharpie test seems to be considered the ideal way other than watching ball flight and simultaneously making corrections with a L/L machine. Not sure if you have seen this, but it may give an overview on why the lie board may not be the best way to fit; seems like just adjusting lie to make the impact centered may result in bad ball flights due to how it influences face angle. I think in the video, Ian was hitting a 50 yard hook based on centering impact using the lie board.

  20. Todays shots of the day. First drive no warm up straight to the tee box was a 290+ yard fairway splitter. number 2, 235 yard rope hook stinger 3 iron… thing of beauty.

  21. Hit a full bucket today. Warmed up with 2 5 iron shots… Then I just proceeded to carve the sky with my 3 iron. High/Low/Mid in all three directions. I think even Seve would have enjoyed this masterpiece. Had one of them smack the 250 marker in flight. Probably the best 3 iron I’ve ever hit. Flushed most of them. It was amazing. Think I’m narrowing down my club options….

Anyone else been noticing the recent trend (recent here anyway) of credit card payment machines asking if you want to leave a tip? Both local golf courses have added this when you check in and pay for the tee time. I totally get tipping for services such as haircuts, food servers, etc., but folks at the pro shop? Or perhaps it's to tip the entire course staff... don't know, didn't ask. What's next Walmart and Safeway cashiers... maybe the salesman who just took your $47,000 check for a car? Curious what others are seeing?

  26. As this is such a prominent topic in golf and we want to encourage the conversation about LIV golf from a golfing standpoint we will reopen this thread. That said, we all know the backside of this story and as much as it has a place to be discussed it falls too close to the political side which we do not allow in the forum. So we ask that the conversation moving forward focuses on the golf, field, courses and other news related to LIV and avoids the back stories which we all know and are aware of. I trust that us as a community can stay to this and we can have solid conversations, debates and discussions moving forward around LIV and the news that follows it. We all have our opinions on the "other stuff" just as I have some pretty strong feelings on it, however they are not meant for this forum and really only lead down a path where we have to lock up this thread again. This is not a warning to all, but a request from the mod team that we keep the discussion about the golf which will start next week with LIV. Lets just avoid the mess that we know will lead to warnings and other nonsense that will get heated or lead to us having to intervene and enjoy the LIVely debate we can have on this thread.

My wife decided to grow a sourdough starter while she is off work. So fresh sourdough bread and even sourdough chocolate chip cookies are all over my house. Along with stress, it's not helping.

  28. I can help. I had a Boise itinerary all planned after the Covid fallout precluded us going to Bend, OR. But we opted to just return to Spokane since only 4 of us attended and 3 were from eastern WA. Well, maybe Chris hadn't moved their yet... can't remember...memory isn't what it used to be. I just know we had a blast and always do.

  29. I’m a life long player.. started when I was 8 and am turning 80 this year. I went to GOLFTEC 2 years ago because I had some back issues and couldn’t turn fully anymore . I was single digits until my early 70’s from the blue tees. Thought they could help me. They did not. In fact my instructor tried to completely revamp my swing. As I said I’ve played for nearly 70 years and know you can’t change easily in a few months. In fact it takes about 2 years to change your grip so you are comfortable and confident. Find a teacher that is highly recommended and pay him. You will be better off. Practice is essential with the guidance of a real teacher.

  31. Hit the range for the first time in a few weeks. It was sorely needed. Spent most of the time on my irons. Looks more like I'm not pulling everything to the left as much as I'm way misaligned. When I took a moment to line myself up, my shots were online. It just feels like I'm lined up to the right of my target. Hit through the rest of my bag too. Still difficult to judge my distances as there's still a large disparity between bad shots, good shots, and then the occasional absolutely pure strike. Along with alignment, my biggest mental block is trying to slow down a bit. I have a tendency to really try to kill the ball to generally poor results. We've got a work scramble next weekend that I'm really looking forward to. I think we've got a chance to do really well!

  36. Please forgive my rudimentary drawing. The ball was hit over the green into some bushes. There is a forest behind (no back-of-line relief). There is no lateral relief because any point not closer to the hole is either in the bushes or (eventually) in the forest. Is the only option here stroke-and-distance relief?

  38. Purely anecdotal, of course, but .. for me .. I strongly believe that leaving it in absolutely helps with visual perspective and distance control -- especially on long first putts and especially on greens with a lot of slope and contour. Separately, and IMO, leave it in for pace of play in all non-comp rounds.

    How'd you play?

Yup, every time the wife texts about something, my game instantly blows up for a few holes, depending on the amount of drama…

  40. I also spent some time at the range yesterday working on irons. My alignment and tempo were off and once I got them under control, I was seeing some really nice trajectory and distance. I believe that I need to get back into doing this more often so that I can get it to transfer to my game in the course. It always time for the happy dance when the distance is good and the dispersion is tight.

    Lie Board Test

although they say using a loft lie machine to measure lie angle is not always accurate, i feel i get pretty good measurements from it. it measured right on spec for some Ping wedges that i received recently, and Ping is usually pretty on spec or close for lie angle. i also have a separate loft lie gauge and i'm about 0.25 degrees between my Mitchell and that loft lie gauge. because of that, i don't really use the loft lie gauge anymore.

    How'd you play?

I played so well today for the first 6 holes. I had my perfunctory opening hole bogey followed by 5 straight pars. Then I got a call from work on the 7th regarding a personnel matter and I proceeded to go double, par, bogey, par, triple, bogey, bogey, bogey, par, double, par, birdie. The final hole birdie was a nice and easy 7 iron from 160 into a slight crosswind and made a 15 footer to close it out. 40/43 which is still OK...just lost my focus out there. Oh well, it happens. It was a gorgeous day outside today.

  43. I really like it so far. I feel like I can get more stopping power with them than I could with my MD4s while using the same swing/shot. Might have to consider getting a 58° as well.
