  1. Finially starting to feel as good about my game as I did last season. I hit 13 fairways and 13 greens in regulation. I have to work on getting my shots into the green closer to the pin. I didn't have any three putts but I should have made more 1 putts. I had a few 8 footers that had potential. Overall I felt really good walking off the course. Three birdies and two bogies for a 70 My two bogies were due to greenside traps. Normally I am a good sand player but I need sand. The traps got compacted from storms last week. Our soil is a red clay base so every heavy rain clay washes in. But my shots bounced off the sand resulting in a skull. But they are in the process of putting grass faces in the traps with better sand in the bottom. The grass faces should hold the clay back. It's a slow process. They did a few last season so now you have extremes. Hard and soft traps. Still great layout and conditions.

Played the US Am Tour today. I was ready throw all my clubs in the nearest pond after 9 holes. Which conveniently was near the 10th hole had a 51 and as was the case in league this week, if not for some stellar putting 14 putts in 9 holes (and that includes a stupid 3 putt) it would have been even worst. But instead I went into the grill bought two Gatorade’s and decided to go 3wood off the tee on the back no matter what. Putting continued to be great and the approach gnaw took two holes to get back on track. But bounced back with a 44 on the back. And that was bookended by doubles on 10 and 18. So really felt confident with the irons and 3 wood on the back. So at least I’m looking forward to the league this week Oh and I have to share my One Shining Moment—it’s the first time I can ever recall being on the top of any leaderboard—however fleeting it was—

41/40, 81 (net -2) 7/14 FIR, 7/18 GIR, 33 putts Played an Arnie design from the tips this morning, was the first person off and was able to finish in 2 hrs 40 min. Scored really well and played really solid all around - even though I took a number of penalties off the tee. A couple 1 stroke hazards I was able to bogey, and just one stroke and distance hole that was my lone double for the day. Had a couple clutch par and bogey save putts, but was easily most excited about my approach play. Finally made some smart decisions club-wise and found myself in a lot of really good places. A number of 10-25 foot putts for birdie (and 1 from 3), got 2 of them to drop. Had my Arccos-best Approach Play Handicap of 3.7, an area of my game that's been a bit of a weakness historically. Finally had a round feel like things all mostly came together, even though I left a couple strokes out there off the tee!

  5. @Tom the Golf Nut @fixyurdivot @chisag This was at a muni I've played several times before and the first time I've had this happen. Unfortunately I don't have access to a club, but I played a tournament at one last Thursday and it was so nice to actually have all my putts do exactly what I read (or at least under read). I always thought this resulted from a combination of a course not moving their pins often enough and those waist challenged or seasoned golfers stepping too close to the hole and/or digging the ball out with the putter. The course I called home for the last few years moved their pins once a week, so I'd play Sat & Sun with the pins in the same position, Sunday was usually a bit tougher putting. I am in Cleveland, OH so we are a hard freeze region, though we are beyond that now. It did get cool overnight and was in the low 50s when I teed off at 6:15 AM. The course was also wetter than I expected as it's been a few days since we had rain and there was some squish in the low spots. The greens still had a heavy dew on them. So I see the point that this could have affected the seating of the cups as well. I understand that nothing can be done during play, it just sucks to lose strokes due to poor course maintenance and something that shouldn't even be an issue. Also gets frustrating to never see your putts drop for two rounds. The other round on Memorial Day was at a different muni, but I posted already about the problems I had there. I am trying to be choosier with the courses I play now that I don't have a "home" course, and I'm not in a position where I can join a club. Just gotta keep working on it and avoid places where this keeps happening.

Haven't played since Monday and my warmup today wasn't the best as I was still stiff and sore from yard work the day before. First 6 holes: DB, Par, DB, Par, DB, Par; then rattled off a bunch of pars a few bogies and one birdie on the par 5 #13. Finished with an 82; not unhappy, but eliminating a few stoopid shots would have made me happier.

    How'd you play?

Bit of a disappointing week. I did get out Memorial Weekend for a 9 and two 18s - shot 40, 79, 82. My short game is the savior of my game right now, and I finally did get a lesson scheduled for later this month to hopefully help the rest. The 82 on Monday morning was particularly frustrating, I came to No. 16 one-under on the back and once again my driver let me down - finishing double, triple, bogey on the final tree holes with awful tee shots being the cause. I was supposed to play Tuesday, and then play in both flights of an all-day scramble Wednesday but had some emergency stuff come up at work beginning Memorial Day afternoon that dragged on all week. Had to miss all of my scheduled rounds (super bummed about the scramble) and a planned day off to spend with my wife for our anniversary. Walked 9 yesterday morning and shot a 39, with a triple bogey. Had a bad three-putt for bogey also, but chipped in for a birdie on No. 15 and then hit a good drive and a great wedge to three-feet for a birdie on No. 16. Rained out this morning, but the worst part is that I was asked to play Arcadia Bluffs tomorrow morning, all expenses paid. Can't get away from work tomorrow. The universe is definitely not in my favor at the moment!

I like Bratwurst's even more. I thought the Kirkland brand were quite good until we tried the ones from the Hutterites. They come down from Conrad, MT to Twin Bridges Farmers Market every Saturday during the summer. They have great vegetables and jarred pickled string beans, mixed veg, and dill pickles. A couple years ago they added the Brat's .

    Kevin Na

Let me offer a little different twist on this. By Na resigning before the LIV event the PGA Tour shouldn't have any grounds to take action against him for playing because he's not an official member. So, if the LIV fails or Na becomes disenchanted with league (or the politics associated with it), since he wasn't officially sanctioned it theoretically should be easier for him to seek reinstatement to the Tour.

... Crazy stats as mine were almost identical yesterday. 13 fairways and 13 greens but flipped your results with 3 bogies and 2 birdies for a 73. After a pin seeking 6 iron from 176 into a slight breeze I missed a 4 footer for birdie that looked dead straight but broke out of the hole with plenty of pace. Otoh I hit a hybrid very thin from 210 that rolled all the way to the middle of the green so as usual things tend to even out. After too many 71's in a row I got my wish for a different score and a 77 Friday without a single birdie and everything felt just a little off and I was never comfortable hitting any shots. Yesterday was much better but still not quite in sync. Congrats on your 1 under.

To me, Na is doing this the right way. He's acknowledging that he's signed a contract with the PGA Tour, and that the Tour has a contractual right to discipline him if he plays conflicting events without Tour clearance. So rather than break the terms of his contract and then fight the discipline, he's terminating his contract. Of course he's doing this with legal advice, and he's doing what the believes is best for himself, but he's not picking a fight with the Tour. To me the source of the LIV Tour's money is a separate issue

... Never hurts to try but it can also be useless because when run by a park district they often are not golfers and just don't care. At one of my home courses back in Chicago the Pro's had a big money game every Wednesday afternoon and put pins in ridiculous spots. I wrote to the General Mgr but found out he played in the money game so his "thanks for your input and I will look into it" made me think he should be in politics. I wrote to the Head of the Park District that I knew because our boys played football together although he was not a golfer but he put a stop to it when I let him know I played with a family celebrating their Dads birthday and it was the first time on the course and they were very unhappy as they were all high index players and 4 and 5 putted many greens because of the insane pins. He told the Pro/GM they were lucky to keep their jobs and it never happened again. To say my relationship with the Head Pro turned frosty was an understatement but his hands were tied and he had to maintain a fake smile when we ran into each other. If I did not know the Head of the PD they would probably still be playing that money game with very frustrated paying muni customers. ... Otoh one of my other home courses was run by guys that put their customers first and would take every complaint seriously. Ya just never know.

A friend of mine, retired Lt. Col. Marine pilot, lives in a motor home with his wife. He's 79. Has a Hyundai that he drives around town. Drives to AZ for the winter and back to Wisconsin to see family. I guess he got used to moving around a lot and decided to keep doing that when he retired. The good thing about that is you tend not to collect waaaay too much "stuff". It was awful moving into our newer house 2.5 years ago, and now we have to move a bunch of stuff we moved to get get it out of the way for our remodel... stuff we haven't looked at in 2.5 years. Should just toss it without looking into boxes; I looked when I packed it, and if I look again, I'll probably decide to keep some of it.

  23. Went to a Titleist fitting at a local club the other day. Already having the SM8 wedges and the T100S, I wanted to hone in on both of these to find out which wedge grind/bounce options and gapping would be best. For my T100S, I wanted to verify the shafts were correct. Some interesting things came out. When I had first bought the SM8, I did so based on the online fitting from Titleist and came away with the D grind for my 54*. It took me a little to get used to it, but I've been happy with the wedge over the years. I came away with similar results this time around, but was interesting was when I switched from wedge to wedge and you can really see the results change. Not only on ball flight - the D was much more of a piercing trajectory - but also from the turf interaction and just how much of a difference it truly was. I let him know about a large gap in my club makeup. My 54* on a comfortable less than 100% swing can max at 108. While my gap wedge (T100S) can go 128/130 comfortably. He suggested, rather than taking off loft to add a 52* which I was hitting right at 118 and felt great. The only problem with that is figuring out what I'd have to take out of my bag. That would be PW, Strong GW, GW, SW, and LW. 5 wedges. Next for the irons. I tried several different shaft options and let my fitter know that I had been playing fairly well with them, but suffering more from a draw when I previously played a more straight ball to slight fade with Mizunos. We found from Trackman that my delivery was around a couple degrees too upright. This being from Titleist standard sets being around a degree and a half more upright than Mizunos as standard lie angle. On top of that, I had them bent more upright based on historical fittings, but most of that was done by lie board (which I know how many of you feel on this). The nice thing was that we settled on the same shaft I currently have as the best for launch, spin, etc... He then set me in a demo T100S set to 2* flat and automatically the large draw was taken out. When I felt like it was a big pull/hook I'd look up only to see it 10/12 yards to the right, which would still be very playable. Looking back, I wish I would made a better effort to get to the range a bit before this Titleist session. I have been lifting weights a lot more lately so I was pretty stiff and probably had one of my worst contact days of the past few years. However, I had a local club adjust my clubs and went to the range the following two days. Confidence was really coming back and I was striking the clubs very solid with a much straighter ball flight. The ball was only moving a few yards one direction or the other and I'm excited to get out to play.

  25. Fortunately I don't have that issue at my course. They roll the greens after every mow and pin change location. Even if it is someone inexperienced placing the cups, the rolling after fixes everything. I do see this when playing other courses. I believe everyone is correct when they say it is inexperienced people in charge of changing pin locations. They pull the grass plug out and put the cup in without tamping down around the cup. I would mention it to the the course superintendent. This lack of proper maintenance can easily add strokes to your game and its not good for the green. If you get the I don't care attitude, I would find a another course to play. There is a course near me that has the same problem. I don't go there unless I have to (tournment, my course has an outing or something). It is less than 4 miles from my house and I only wind up there one or twice a season.

  26. Hit a full bucket today. Warmed up with 2 5 iron shots… Then I just proceeded to carve the sky with my 3 iron. High/Low/Mid in all three directions. I think even Seve would have enjoyed this masterpiece. Had one of them smack the 250 marker in flight. Probably the best 3 iron I’ve ever hit. Flushed most of them. It was amazing. Think I’m narrowing down my club options….

  27. First day of the member member. Playing off an 8, today was 90% capped. Started off with great shots but had my first tee shot barely roll out of the fairway into the rough which cost me and on hole 2 I missed the fairway by 3 inches which cost me again since the rough is still so thick so instead of likely starting out even I was +2. The I ripped off 5 pars in a row. Finished the front with a 39. But the stretch from 8-13 was brutal. I even topped a tee shot on 10. I kept it together playing bogey golf outside of 13 where I doubled. Played up and down after that for a few pars and finished the back with a 43. I blew a major putt on 18 for par but it really started because of how bad I missed my birdie putt. I just lost it straight right off a hill and left myself in a bad spot. Outside of the back really pleased with how I played with a 82 net 75 considering we are tied for 8th going in to the second day. My partner didn’t do me any favors with a 93 net 82. He’s been holding out putting in his scores picking and choosing the ones he adds. He was playing off an 11 today… but it should be closer to a 16. It was stableford best ball and tomorrow is 2 of 2 best ball. Hoping for the best!

#9 fits my ball flight better. I'd skip #8 and play #9 twice . It seems pretty clear to me that when we eventually have that National Spy Round Up, and put an East vs. West side game together, each team has an anchor-man. Based on the yardage and photo, I'm guessing it's every bit of a 220 carry to get past the corner. That (tree) would be my aim point and natural ball flight, and would be descending at my distance. I'm certain that tree would be a major PITD.

Yep the CC companies and banks are getting it both ways. They are chrging the merchants for someone using the card to begin with and charging the consumer in many cases for using it. We ran into that back in the towing business. The city tried to stop us on Police calls from charging extra. My partner ended up in a city council session and told them "Well you guys charge me a surcharge when I pay my water bill and it is discrimatory and I will take you to court" They backed off after that. My neighbor ownns a local bait and tackle shop. He quit taking CCs a long time ago because of transaction fees. He got smart though and had a company install an ATM right outside the door The company that owns the machine does all the stocking and maintence. His business is more local geared so all the locals know plus he has signs posted. My bud who owns a auto repair shop down the street and now does all of our auto repairs charges like a 7% transaction fee on all CC purchases. Yeah I see where the "cashless society" thing is changing and people as well as small businesses are getting fed up and have smartened up

Now I have time to get my charger installed in the garage. Ordered a Juicebox 40A from Costco, $550 but of course it's $100 shipping to Hawaii. Still less than MSRP on their website. For anyone else looking for a home EVSE, check to see if your electric company has any rebates. Mine had one on the Juicebox but it was still more expensive than Costco, YMMV!

I have not noticed any tip prompts at the club house but I usually pay cash for the occasional beverage or snack at the turn so I wouldn’t notice the tip prompt. As for the part that I highlighted above, I’ve noticed that several restaurants in my area have their tip suggestions on the ticket calculated after the tax which would explain the discrepancy in the suggestion. This has also caused me to make sure that I have cash on hand for the tip and recalculate it to reflect a tip on the food and service but not on the tax.

  47. Got out at dawn for a fast 18. Felt like I didn't hit the ball great but went 39-41 with 1 double, no birdies. Drive was fine other than 1 smother hook, irons were off as I only hit 6 greens, chipping was amazing kept me in it, and putting was ok. Still 31 putts, but moving back in the right direction with the SeeMore. Also a question for all the spies - The last 36 holes I played it seems like the pins are on knobs or the cup is all mounded up. I'm sure I'm not the only one to experience this, but here's basically the scenario I'm talking about. Say you have left to right 8 footer you need to aim 2-3 inches outside the cup. What's been consistently happening is that if you play the break it doesn't move, but if you just hit it straight, then it snaps off at then end the 2-3 inches. I get that most of the time some bad pins are attributed to the fact that the guy setting them isn't a golfer, just a grunt on the grounds crew. Like they're just told the general positions, middle left, front right, and they pick a spot and set them. But when all 18 holes are touchy putts like this, that has to be intentional. What do you spies do on days like this? Why does this happen? What purpose does this serve? Do courses just assume everyone has a big gimmie range?
