    How'd you play?

Not me but took my youngest (7) to the practice ground for the 1st time yesterday. She's been asking to go for a while and finally had a chance as the wife is away and her sister was at a youth bible group. She really enjoyed it and, even though the club is still a little long for her, managed to hit some good shots so is keen to go again. This is her 1st time hitting proper golf balls. I'm chuffed she's a lefty too 20220607_192419.mp4

    How'd you play?

I posted it in the goal thread but gotta post here too cuz I’m so damn excited! 34/38 EVEN PAR 72 11 Greens 12 Fairways 5 birdies 5 bogies Whoop Whoop! A few chunked chips cost me a round in the 60’s.

    How'd you play?

Owen and I got out to play the back nine at River Heights today. Not necessarily a better round than yesterday but it felt comfortable to be at my home course. My irons have finally really come around. I blasted three six iron shots that overshot the green, badly on one of them. In general I'm hitting longer than last year; a long range session getting my gapping down is in order. My 54° is my 95 club, which I found out on two occasions where I needed to go 100, lol. Overall I shot 47 due to some wayward driving, but on the whole I'll take it.

  4. Well me and my partner finished 3rd last on Sunday from 8th on Saturday. We both shot a poor 90 on Sunday. I had the hex on me all day. I hit a beautiful drive on the par 5. I had 230 in to reach in 2 and 4 people from the maintenance partner came out to stand in the green. Of course I missed my shot off the toe it was a stinger and missed clearing the creek by an inch. It hit the rocks and came back 30 yards. Likely costing me a stroke or two. On 14 I drove the green 280ish. Missed my eagle putt for a skin by a foot. Caught every bunker lie in the corners where all the sand is currently hanging out. Just didn’t catch many breaks. Still contemplating whether I want to call my partner out for under reporting his handicap, it seems that he never puts any of his scores in, only adding the good ones

  5. ...no, request denied... Instead find a 2 year olds drawing and replace your profile photo. Altho that's probably better then what they came up with.

    How'd you play?

I played a very up-and-down round today. Had some sporadic rain which would go from a drizzle to an absolute downpour. I was also fighting a two-way mess for a large portion of the day. This led to me losing quite a few balls in the water, which I haven’t done in well over a year. I couldn’t remember the last time I went through nearly a half dozen balls. Still scored a 96 but that’s pretty bad for the front 9 being mostly bogeys and pars. My back tightened up and this didn’t help my two way miss at all.

  9. I switched to 'home' being a muni this year. It's a course I've played several times anyways and it fits my game well. One of those courses built in the 60s and 70s when they were making big ballparks. A pretty straightforward layout that stretches to 6800. Plus they have 36 holes so get to mix it up a little bit more. The metroparks took it over from Cle and renovated 27 of the holes. The other 9 is still open, but hasn't be updated yet. They put the walk-ons over there. They did expand a lot of the greens on the course, and I know it takes a few years for that to actually grow in. So there's a lot I'm still getting used to I guess. They do a player's club card that gives you 20% back on all your rounds at any metroparks course. They run 5 full courses, plus 2 executives, and a par 3. 3 of their courses are 5 minutes from my house, and the furthest is just over 30. the card cost $30 to join but they give you a free 9-hole pass and a $5 merchandise coupon, so basically break even right away. I bought a sleeve of AVX the same day I signed up. https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/golf/courses/seneca-golf-course

... Not to sound like a broken record and I certainly remember bemoaning rainy springs in Chicago and wishing we could go a month without rain but it has not rained here since last October. 8 months without a drop and I would LOVE to have several rounds completely rained out. Golf Gods can be so evil.

We are a muni and are pins are moved Tue-Thu-Sat and Sun. Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest golf days of the week. They do a pretty good job most of the time... no volcanoes, but sometimes the holes are not always cut vertically. My wife thinks that if one side of the inside of a hole is a little more visible, then the ball breaks... I know better!

  13. I’ve been telling people this for years, and it makes me chuckle a bit when I see people post or start a thread that they hit the ball too high. My response is usually, no you don’t.

  16. You're right. I used to illustrate with golfers when teaching that height is your friend. Now before anyone chimes in and says nOt ToO mUcH hEiGhT! I have to say there is a relevant optimal window based upon ball speed and spin. I would grab a garden hose and use the stream to illustrate how the higher it goes (to an extent) the further it reaches. The same can be said for ball speed and psi of the water flowing from the hose...amusingly enough as a Fire Officer on an Engine, finding optimal flows between pump and discharge pressures to reach desired gallons per minute is incredibly relatable. Back to the point. At a certain water pressure from the hose, (ball speed) each golfer should seek the highest trajectory possible that meets their game.

  22. Taking a couple trips this summer where I don't want to tote multiple pairs of shoes along. There's enough crap for me to haul with a toddler and my wonderful but always overly prepared wife. That plus wanting something that doesn't roast my feet during the summer led me to pull the trigger on these.

  23. The mod team has been working diligently in the background to revamp the Unofficial Review section to more closely match our member test section. The main issues we wanted to address are a uniform rating system and a searchable database for gear. Now we need your help! The new platform should be ported over from our staging environment to the main forum (hidden) this week (6/6/22) and we need some dedicated testers to hammer the system, find any issues/quirks/annoyances, and let the Mod team know about them so we can either have our dev correct them or figure out a work around. If you're interested, please send us a note or reply to this thread and we'll get you setup! @GolfSpy_BOS @GolfSpy_CS @GolfSpy_THV @GolfSpy_TCU @GolfSpy MPR

  26. To me, this bolsters the PGA Tour's position. A number of players have chosen not to contest the terms of the contract they have (or had) with the PGA Tour, choosing instead to resign their membership. If it was the legal slam-dunk that Greg Norman has claimed, these players would probably be much more inclined to stay in the Tour and fight. These players agreed to the PGA Tour terms when they signed their new yearly contract every year. I think this year the Majors will allow entry to those who have satisfied their entry requirements, similar to the USGA for the US Open. But for next year, don't many of those requirements pertain to PGA Tour earnings, or OWGR positions? Will the OWGR include results from the LIV Tour, or will they be forced to include them? Field size matters in OWGR, as does strength of field, will small-field no-cut events with mostly average players produce high rankings? 54-hole events are generally awarded fewer points. All this is to say that although LIV players might be eligible for Majors, they may not be able to earn enough OWGR points to be automatically invited. And if the players find that the great money doesn't take the place of participation in the Majors, will they want to return to the PGA Tour? This isn't to say that the Players Advisory Council won't work with PGA Tour management to look at innovations and changes. But I don't think the situation is as dire for the Tour as you do. No network will pay to televise these events without sponsors (advertisers) willing to cover the costs. Given the current image of the Saudis, networks may have a difficult time finding those advertisers.

  28. I think it will depend a lot on how you practice. As one of the most wanted testers I hit a lot of balls into a screen off a mat. In general just hitting balls into a net even with a GCQuad won’t provide a lot of benefit; just like going to the range and just hitting balls. If you are focusing on skill improvement then yes it can be very beneficial. You can work on skills like low point control, ball contact with full and partial swings, launch windows, and ball start line. Without something like a skytrak, mevo, trackman, GCQuad that shows ball flight, it will be difficult to understand the actual, flight if the ball. Prior to this year, I would say that other than wedge testing, hitting all those balls provided little benefit because I was just hitting balls. This year I am a little more focused on improving my swing while, hitting those balls and a little more deliberate in the whole process.

  32. If anyone gets a chance to attend a PGA Tour event, one of the first things .. previously unknown to me .. that really struck me was just how freaking HIGH they launch the ball on their tee shots, and on most of their approach shots (special circumstances aside). Impressive!

  33. Took a friend out today to the range and helped him with his swing. He’s a casual golfer that just recently got fit with new irons and woods and he’s fascinated by how much of a difference it made. It’s true, watching him hit balls is a pleasure while he isn’t fighting the ball. What did he need to fix? Tempo. When he realized he had to sync his body and it worked best when he’d pause a second and then time his downswing. As for me. Driver was an abomination. The g400 is back in the bag.

... Good point, I do and I knew rain was scarce. When I spent the winter out here in 2019 it rained maybe 4 times between Jan-May. Two winters ago a few times but zero this fall-winter-spring is surprising. At least Monsoon season is predicted to be average to above average for rainfall this summer.

  40. Yes - back to the event! Mod request - can we get updated badges of each of the LIV teams logos for MGS members to show their support on the profile??

  41. Let's get back to the event. A road down what they are or are not doing for women in sports can be determined in another thread and is a touchy subject at best. I know there is a Lot going on with this and the topic of LIV has so many off shoots, but I'll put it this way as we are already on edge with it any posts that take any sort of political angle should be reported and will then be hidden. Continued posts of this nature will mean locking this thread or enabling post approval.

    The Return of Rickie

I still think Rickie's woes started when he went from ProV1 to that ugly TM Pix ball. Maybe if TM drops him as a sponsor, he'll change back.

  43. That last line summs it up for me--- I could care less where any of them play or if they play or not--- I will not go to any trouble to watch either--- I am like Rev in the sense if it is on during the time I am playing golf myself so be it--- Or if I choose to work in the shop--- That goes for any of the tours---- If I am in the house kicked back and it is on then I will watch. But I do not make any special effort to watch with one exception Masters Week--- The other majors or any other events I can take or leave

But if you need someone to sit out with you and hang around the grill with soem beveages. I’d be more productive doing that than tearing up 18 holes of their nice course. Ha

    How'd you play?

Played in a scramble that I participate in every year where the proceeds of the tournament allows children in third world countries get the medical treatment needed which is normally not available in their area. It's held at the Links at Gettysburg, a beautiful links style course with lots of elevation changes on the front and lots of water on the back, LOL. Last year my team shot a -9 where the winning score was -16. This year, we shot -14 and the winning score was -18, LOL. We left a few out there and could of made -18 if we just hit our approach shots closer. A lot of times we were making long putts for birdie or to save par. Highlights included eagles on 2 out of the 4 par 5s (birdied the other par 5s), sinking some long putts on a few other par 4s for a few more birds and saving par in some instances and one of the guys on my team driving the green on a par 4 and almost driving the green on the long drive hole (368 yards to the center of the green and he was only 15 yards from the front of the green). Dude was a beast! Best part was helping those kids out and enjoying a great day out on the links!
