  1. ....when you buy a club from the marketplace and realize it's the same club you sold 6 months earlier to someone else, and you're paying more than you got for it
    18 points
  2. You're playing with someone - and the first thing you look at when you get to the first tee are the clubs they're gaming. Or when your partner asks you what club your using and you tell him the loft, i.e.45* vs that it's a PW.

  3. Someone buys a new club or clubs and you're asking about the shaft and characteristics, then looking it up you find the specs. And of course you have to ask if they got fitted.
    12 points
  4. It works the other way too. Someone asks you what shaft you have in a particular club and you go into the details about the shaft and they look dumbfounded and say “I mean what flex??” When you say you are playing a Snell and they respond “what’s that???”

  5. Thanks for the update @GolfSpy_THV. I personally find it somewhat interesting that HQ, which has minimal involvement with the forum on a day to day basis from what I've observed over the years, decided to take over arranging testing opportunities for forum members. Those testing opportunities are always the highest trafficked threads due to engagement, excitement, and social sharing. Just even more proof about how @Golfspy_CG2crushed it with his forum duties over the years.

  7. I'll start it off.. You know your a GolfSpy if.. you can't help but get slightly annoyed when you ask someone what ball they're using and they look at it and say.. "I'm using a Titleist 3" as if "3" is the actual performance characteristic of the ball.

  8. You know your a GolfSpy if... You can tell what year the Titleist ProV1 anyone is playing with by looking at the arrow markings on the ball You bring up all the most wanted reviews to people who don't even golf buy equipment you don't even need because of said reviews talk golf stats of your recently finished round...to anyone who would listen purposely leave MyGolfSpy's webpage up so your wife will have an idea of what to get you for father's day MDGolfHacker - I may or may not have done some or all of the items above...

  10. All, I wanted to comment here to shed some light on the current situation and how we are handling things moving forward based on current direction. As @GolfSpy_APH has mentioned, we are all volunteers helping out to manage and improve the site, along with keeping our boards clear of nonsense. So based on our role we all, myself included, have limited influence in some spaces. We have voiced our ideas and concerns for any number of actions that HQ has made - sometimes they listen to us, and other times they do not, which is expected in any relationship of this nature. So, with testing, I am keenly aware that you are all intelligent people and have clearly noticed the lack of some testing opportunities, particularly with some of the "major" OEM's. In years past, the forum was left to handle testing on their own with our amazing @Golfspy_CG2 managing a lot of that process and crushed it yearly! However, HQ made the decision in late 2021 to incorporate forum testing and OEM communications into their duties with HQ staffers. Effectively, the process of securing tests and communicating with OEM's was taken out of our hands and the HQ Staff is working hard to secure new and more tests for all the forum membership. We have some other ideas in the works to continue bringing you guys great gear, so FEAR NOT, we will (hopefully) have more opportunities for all members to try out some cool new gear...and maybe write a review about it with our new Member Reviews platform that is currently in Beta (send me a note if you want to join the Beta Testers group!). Feel free to send any followup questions, just note that I will not go into details around the HQ decision at this point.

  15. And he continues to crush it with these major contest pools too! It's as frustrating for the mod team as it is for the members here to not have awesome test opportunities every week of the year. We know that this is the best spot to read as unbiased reviews from real golfers as you can get. We don't want to loose sight of that, or the many other great aspects of this community, even if the official testing opportunities are not as frequent this year as in years past. I'd like to encourage anyone who bought something new in the last year or so to join up with the Beta testers group to get a inside look at some updates and opportunity to share within our upcoming member review platform!

  16. Well been on a bit of a spree lately but sold all my extra stuff and old clubs to get close to even! It all started at the Srixon/Cleveland demo day… next thing you know I’m on the track man at Club Champion and I’m getting fit into a combo set of the ZX iron zx7 p-7 (you really think I can hit those!?) and ZX5 (6-4) either I’m better than I though or those are the easiest players iron to hit! Never been striking the bell better in me life 1/4” over std 1 degree up, modus 105 stiff was perfect, tried every at club champion nothing was better than the stock option swapped out the 3W for the ZX 3W (Ventus blue with velocore) thanks @MmmmmmBuddy! just ordered an Apex Pro hybrid with the KBS proto shaft from CPO! and with that I’ve turned over my bag in 18 months…. I may have a problem oh and I took advantage of the Srixon z star order 2 get one… don’t tell my wife!

    How'd you play?

Back to playing well after 6 weeks or so in the wilderness that is implementing swing changes/thoughts after my 1st lesson of the season. 4 straight rounds in the 70’s, including yesterday at Coral Canyon. Literally can’t remember a time where I was hitting driver better…. Bali hai tomorrow will be a good test…

  21. I'd agree - let's not wait for HQ. We all buy golf stuff (both new and old) on a regular basis and while we like free stuff, that's not the reason we're here. One of the real values of this Forum is real life info and experiences vs. OEM marketing hype - so post away your experiences! .

  24. Yeah, there generally isn't any public notificiation or even any notice to the MODS. But I do know someone wins...at least the Titleist irons last year, a member from the forum won a fitting and set of irons at TPI, he posted about it here. That was a main site SM campaign not a forum one, but he was a member here. Other than that, I dont know who has won any of them. Although I do wonder when I see them if I would get laughed at HQ if I entered

  25. Played yesterday at my old home course and had my best round of the year - 36/39. Birdied both par 5s on the front, and had a 3-putt par on the par 5 18th. Also finally got a par on the 12th, one of the toughest par 4s in NE Ohio. I actually took some photos of what happened on that hole. So it's a 420 yard par 4 but the fairway pinches down to about 20 yards wide in the landing zone. And even if you are in the left third of the fairway you may still be blocked. Inside 150 the hole goes downhill to a creek, then back up a little bit to a two-tiered green. I hit 3W-9i and two putted. As you can see, I missed the fairway by a foot on the left and was totally blocked from the flag, could only see the front corner. The course was in some of the nicest shape I've ever seen it, but the greens were still sketchy for putting. They held better than I've ever seen them for this time of year.

Went to get coffee for my wife yesterday. The employee in the window saw my Mandalorian coffee cup and started talking about being a huge Star Wars fan. Then he said, and I quote, "I can't wait to turn 18 so I can get a tattoo of the Mandalorian signet." I feel so old now.

  29. Kind of a fun post that hopefully gets some traction. Having been a MGS member for about 5 years now, I've found this to be my sole source of social media AND #1 resource for all things golf-related. Being a long-ish term member has rewarded me with so many wonderful experiences, knowledge, and benefits. Another byproduct of having been a member here is that I have inherited some unique "quirks" or maybe even ticks about the game. Call it a golf 6th sense, OCD, Jedi somethingoranother.. if you will. Sometimes I instinctively react to things without thinking or just notice funny or maybe even annoying things that other golfers do.. or don't do, and I really think that my interaction with MGS plays a big part in that. Let's not get things twisted here though.. it has nothing to do with my actual skill level on the golf course. So let's hear your "you know your a GolfSpy if.." stories

  30. It's funny I was looking at and reading the recent Golf Digest ball writeup that shows all of the ball cores and my 4 year old son asked why I was looking at so many pictures of planets. That's probably what goes through the heads of people you play with.. hm.. he must like planets.. or geology

  31. I bought the Diamond on the 3 for 2 deal... I loved the feel of the Z Star in the past but performance was lacking. I loved the distance from the XV, but feel was terrible. The Diamond is right in between and I think I have found my go to.

  33. Performance & On the Course: Sorry for the break in posting, but after playing this driver for the past month, and giving it a real test in a tournament, I am ready to provide my final thoughts. I don’t use ShotScope or Arccos, so I can’t provide exact numbers for MGS, but I will say my swing speed is around 107 (based on a fitting). And I have noticed a slight distance increase with this over my former Titleist 915. In my last few rounds I hit some drives that got up around 290. My average is around 265-275. I also have this driver set to neutral or standard position. The Titleist I played in B4, which was +1.5 loft and 1 Flat, the anti-hook setting. So that being considered the PXG seems to be a straighter driver as well. On the course I am quickly gaining confidence and comfort with the 0211. If something is going wrong, it’s a bad setup or a bad swing on my part, I can't fault the club for either of those things. When swinging correctly, I am hitting my preferred draw shape. And when I screw up, I get stuck inside and pull hook on everything. Again, not the fault of the PXG, I will hook anything when that happens. Overall I would say the club is more forgiving than the Titleist. I also think the PXG looks fantastic at address. The Numbers: 4 out of 5 On The Course: 4 out of 5 The Good, the Bad, the Inbetween: Honestly I only have good things to say. The driver was delivered within a week of ordering, which is still a problem for most OEMs. I was able to research the details on the club and shaft options without any issue. Though I went through GolfWorks and mfg sites for that information. I love the all black look of the club and I’ve had zero issues. After about 10 rounds I’m feeling pretty confident with the driver and it didn’t let me down in the tournament I played. The only bad thing I have to say about PXG is that the upcharge on different grips seems absurd. The MCC +4 would have been an extra $30. I am fine with the standard Lamkin grip that came with the driver. Also, if you want a PXG fitting there are two things. First, you need to hope there is an official fitter close to you, there aren’t as many available as the other OEMs. PXG runs its fittings through local area reps, not through courses. So, it is up to you to reach out to the rep and schedule a fitting, not the facility that hosts the fitting. Good, Bad, Inbetween: 4 out of 5 Play it or Trade it?: This driver is staying in the bag! If I can pick up a $200 driver that performs just as well, if not slightly better, than a $500 Titleist, is there anything to think about? Even without getting fit, I’ve been able to get this club set up in a way that works for me, and it has mitigated some of my mistakes. I’m not going to rant about how great PXG is, but this driver proves to me they are a smaller brand that should be seriously considered when purchasing new clubs. I think with the right shaft, the 0211 Driver would work for anyone who is seeking improved performance, or a new driver, while staying on a budget. Play It? Yes! 5 out of 5 Conclusion: I think this is a well made club that performs just as well as anything else from the bigger OEMs. I went into this knowing that a new driver would not be life changing, but just an upgrade from an outdated model. I think it does that, as my confidence and play is just as good with this as it was with my previous driver. I feel like I am keeping the ball in play more and doing a better job of mitigating misses. It’s hard to beat a driver at this price of $200, and anyone, not just those on a budget or looking for their first new club, should consider this driver. Like any new club, it took some time getting used to but now I have the confidence to go play any length course with this in my bag. Go check out PXG yourself and thanks for reading! Overall: 26 out of 30 P.S.- - Here’s a video of my swing with the PXG. And a photo of the result of that swing. It was a 410 yard par 4 into a 1-club wind and I’m sitting right by the 150 marker in the center of the fairway. And yes I saw myself up on my toes at impact and I didn’t know I was doing that and since have corrected it. VID_20220612_100737.mp4

  35. It's been plaguing me for a few weeks, except for the first round I played with the Mizuno's ( which I still love). I think playing with guys from work I'm trying too hard to kill the ball and impress them. I guess sometimes being a contributor to a golf forum has it's social pressures . I'm hopeful that an instructor will be able to get me back to making decent contact.

    Happy thread

Little guy made that All-Star coach pitch “Showcase” Team. Super proud of that little slugger. Had a practice tonight, hit it to the outfield first at bat, then nearly knocked the coaches teeth out on the second (glad it wasn’t me this time, haha). Game on Saturday.

  38. First, HAVE FUN!! Second, try not to expect too much of yourself. Expect to feel nervous, that's absolutely normal, just take a deep breath and carry on. You are absolutely going to hit poor shots, so when it happens, just accept it and move on. Don't take on excess risk, risk you wouldn't normally take on, just play your normal game, and don't try to "make up" for a previous mistake. Third, refresh yourself on the basic Rules. Simple stuff, OB, Penalty Areas, cart path relief. Ask for help on the rules if you're not sure. Mark your golf ball, and identify your ball every time. Last, HAVE FUN!!!!

  39. Picked up some MCC Plus 4s for my new irons and realized halfway back on my drive from NY to VA that I forgot my blow off gun. So today for about $10 from Lowe’s I made my own and it works just fine. Spray bottle, some vinyl hose, marinade injection needle and two hose clamps.

Played better than I have in a while. 38/44 82. I started to run out of puff on the back, walking in the humidity sure sucks some energy out of you. When I got home I took the 3 wood and 2 hybrid out of the bag because I just don't use them.

  43. Phil and Greg agree with you. IMO, a better response would be no real response at all. They held event #1, check. Some of our players have decided to leave our tour, check. Some are playing this week, check. Now back to our regular scheduled event. There is a big difference in acknowledging "the topic" and spending 50% of the coverage on it, re-hashing the same crap over and over again. Perhaps they think using Rory as the new anti-LIV front man and casting all LIV players as evil doers will change the landscape? Brandel, in another life, gets offered $200M to join LIV. My guess is that you'd catch a cold from the wind he created in route to the bank.

  47. Played ghastly on Sunday. On 14 I told my son that I was going to start stepping through my shots because, why not? I was on my way to a score in the high 80’s at the time. Hit a very nice 8 iron to 15 feet, missed the putt but then hit 9 wood from 165 to 4 feet and 8 iron from 141 to 5 feet, back to back birdies. (Opposite wind directions). Both shots were all over the pin, ending up directly behind the hole from the tee.
