    How'd you play?

We had a Tragedy here yesterday on the Grand Strand. A gator killed a man. There are not real details yet. It happened over at Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht club which has neither golf (anymore) or Yachts in fact one would do good getting a Jon boat in those waters. The course there Heron Point has been closed close to 10 years now. There are a lot of small houses and older condos there so a lot of full time residents. I know back when the course was open there were a lot of gators there I can only imagine now with the course closed and things grown up higher than my head. Like they said no real details have been released yet but they did confirm the gator killed the man and they got the gator and destroyed him. DNR and the County Police are evidently still investigating. So my fellow coastal and Florida folks be aware that Gators can and will kill

  3. Thank goodness I had good company at a top rated public track in Massachusetts, because my game stunk up the joint! 96 with no birdies 3 pars and ton of other stuff that’s just no bueno. I only hit 3 greens and those resulted in the only pars today that kept me halfway sane. it wasn’t the course it was 100% me. I struggled right out of the gate and couldn’t shake the funk. I had a few decent tee shots that put me in good shape and I proceeded to shank my wedges in (about 40-60 yards on 3 of them) which have been an absolute strength for me this year.. Putting continued its brutal performance from yesterday blowing everything inside 5’ by. This was my game in a nutshell today I would love to hear folks interpretation on what happened here lol

For the first time in 40 plus years I have the same brand in my bag which are shown in my signature. I started out with the Hy-wood and loved it so much I had to add another Cleveland and then another and well, you see in the bag the end result. Love each and everyone of my sticks and highly endorse them to anyone who enjoys solid equipment at a fair price. Cleveland has won me over and already one of my friends at my club recently bought a set of the Cleveland Launcher XL irons after seeing my results with em.

  5. The mod team will be going over many many of these points Monday on our bi weekly staff meeting. Added to that with Wife and Baby gone for a month I should have more time to look/make some simplifying changes. I'll also add I've put a email to our dev who created the testing system to see what further integration we can do or what is possible and am waiting on response.

"and ton of other stuff that’s just no bueno." ... One of my new favorite quotes. We have all had those days where we struggle out if the gate and it never gets better. Hopefully it was with some good friends and the course looks awesome. "I would love to hear folks interpretation on what happened here lol" ... If you watch the Travelers today (Friday) Rory might be asking the same thing.

Don’t worry folks. Mark is just mad that I beat him today…. Errrr I mean the course beat me up a little less than him. As we were playing I said to my Father-in-law “I’m better off from the rough!” Arccos agrees: more to come from my adventure today!

I said I was sorry and didn’t realize I did it until this morning but for some reason she didn’t believe me.

Couldn't think of anywhere else to post this.. My new journey into aeronautics and aviation. Having recently been laid off for the 2nd time in 4 months, the writing on the wall is telling me to exit the mortgage industry for good (after nearly 20 years). I have a good friend who's a flight instructor and is working on his path to become a private charter or regional pilot. This is my 2nd flight totaling 2.7 hrs. We flew from Chandler down to Marana. Ate breakfast and flew back. In talking aerodynamics, physics, and how the plane functions and reacts to the elements, and preparation for weather, temp, etc, I couldn't help but see so many parallels to golf. After bringing up all of the similarities to golf and how we basically "navigate" the golf course, choose clubs, have an understanding of physics, pay close attention to the elements and surroundings, etc, etc, etc.. now he's interested in the game. Captain Stu! (Not really) My buddy and instructor Andre Our whip Picacho peak and some random course that I never knew existed

  12. I had to the opportunity to visit one of my students who is interning at Sedgfield Country Club (home of the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour). We played the front 9 from the tips. We had no warmup and had been riding in the car for about 4.5 of the hours of our trip prior, so I was stiff! We rolled a few putts on the practice green by the first tee box and then let them fly. My motto for golf right now is "70% effort." I find that my ball striking improves drastically, curve is minimized and repeatable, and all around I lose no distance with the irons and maybe 15yds with driver, but it is basically the same shot over and over. So I stepped up with driver in hand on the 1st hole Par 4, gave a 70% effort driver swing right up the middle. Had 120yds left to the flag, hit a gap wedge to 20ft, easy 2-putt Par on the first. The 2nd hole was a dog leg right Par 4. I'd never played there so my student just said to hit my fade over the left hand side of the right side FW bunkers. Sure enough, 70% effort, another nice little fade right where I wanted it. That left 100yds into a left to right sloping green. I didn't take the ball above my feet lie into account (so stupid) and ended up fatting the shot short of the green. I hit a pitch shot that I thought would run out but the greens were sand-based and extremely receptive. It came up quite a bit short. By this point I was a bit frustrated, blasted my first put by the hole and didn't take the time to read/line up the come back bogey putt. Just missed it and made a double. Grrrrrrr It's the simple things that cost the most strokes sometimes. 3rd hole was a 165yd Par 3. Flag was in the back and we couldn't figure out the wind. I take an 8iron and it goes long. Now I've got a downhill lie off a tight fringe to a flagstick that is sloping away. I took a 58* and hit a little pitch shot that landed just short of the putting surface and trickled 3ft past the hole. Made that one for a par. 4th hole was a narrow Par 4 with O.B. right and left. Didn't have much space left to start my fade, but I was able to squeeze it out there. Ball finished in the right rough and I had 150yds. The lie looked like it could jump but there was a steep hill behind the flag I thought would slow it if it jumped. Well, it jumped all right and landed hole high, rolled over the hill and left a tricky downhill double-breaker putt. I lagged it well and made a 4ft putt to save the par. 5th hole was a Par 5. Another not so wide hole with trees up the left. I had to trust my fade and start it at the left tree line. It didn't fade as much, but still stayed in play, left rough. I hit a 4iron out of the rough to 30yds short of the green. Hit another pitch shot that one-stop-hopped well short of the flag. It was downhill all the way, so I really expected it to roll out. Had a long lag putt that I got to 4ft again and made the par putt. 6th hole was a really difficult decision off the tee. Number 1 stroke index hole on the course and with good reason. There is a creek that goes from 290yds long left to 240yds short right. The perfect angle. I knew it wasn't a driver with the wind into us, but it also might not be a 3wd, as that would also get into the creek on the wrong line. So I decided to play a 5wd up the left side of the FW. I knew this would turn the hole into a longer hole, but taking too much risk wasn't in the cards. I hit it well but it left me a 200yd shot into the green. The ball was on a downslope so I expected a stinger. Sure enough, it came out stinging (very cool looking shot), landed on the front edge of the green and rolled to about 30ft. Good 2 putt par there. 7th hole was a 175yd Par 3 with water short. It was optically strange looking (seemed much farther than the yardage said it was). I trusted my 7iron, hit it 70% effort, perfect dead straight ball flight about 30ft past the hole safely on the center of the green. Easy 2 putt par again. 8th hole was a short Par 4 with another creek that went long left to short right and then trees not very far away on the right side of the FW. I took driver and ended up in the right rough. I had a good lie from 108yds, took a sand wedge and stuffed it to 3ft. First birdie of the day! The 9th hole was an uphill slight dogleg par 4. Took driver and ended up juuuuuust in the left rough with some mud on the ball. I could see the pitch mark about 8 inches in front of where my ball ended up. I took a pitching wedge and I'm not sure if I just hit a dead pull, if the rough grabbed the club, or what, but I missed the green well to the left. This left a large mound between the flagstick and my ball and of course it was a steep downhill slope to the flag. So I had to flop one over the mound and hope for the best. My partners said I hit my spot and it just jumped. Nothing else to do about it. So I had a long 2-putts for bogey, which I did. Ended up with a solid +2 on the nine holes, which is all we had time for. I would love to see the back nine sometime so I can relate when I watch the PGA Tour event played there soon. Aside from that stupid stupid double on the 2nd hole, I played really well for not having ever seen the course before. But it just goes to show you have to be diligent and pay attention to each and every shot.

  13. As a newer member compared to those posting in this thread I can attest to that. I've made a few threads but unless it's clear cut subject, say it's about a putter, I'm baffled at where the best place to start a thread might be. Which makes me hesitant to appear stupid which makes me self-edit, which makes me shut up. Which I shall do right now...

Same course the last three days... subbed in the Wednesday night league for my.partner on Thuraday, shot 37 and helped extend the lead he has in that league, played in my Thursday night league, shot 39 and got waxed on the handicap system. Played a captain and crew today, shot 60 with a bogey, finished second and won 25 bucks. In all, interesting three days.

Owen and I were joined by our buddy Paul and our supervisor Chris yesterday at River Heights for a charity scramble to support Golf Fore Kids, which helps provide opportunities for area kids who might not be able to otherwise participate. Where we work only one of the three of us would be allowed the day off, but when I framed it as a volunteer day to supervisor Chris and invited him to be our fourth, he was happy to approve, LOL. Owen and I played reasonably well, but the better story was Paul and Chris. Paul has been working through some swing changes with Owen and they're starting to come along. When he hits it well the ball absolutely takes off, but he doesn't trust his alignment yet so his good shots go right. But the process is encouraging and you can see it in his eyes. He's the one that really helped us along when we started last year so to see him coming back is outstanding. Now Chris, he never golfed much and hadn't picked up a club in three years; he was there mostly for the beer. Fella had a beer a hole and looked none the worse for wear! We took a couple of his shots including an absolutely beautiful chip from under a tree that stopped about a foot from the hole. We had a blast! We shot 68, second highest score. Winning team posted 46. Chris won some Sub70 swag and Paul won a foursome to a course in Aurora that none of us had ever played before so we're excited for that.

Used to happen to me all the time at my old course... a 9 hole exec that was an old goat field. The pro had a lease on the property and the city wanted him to use city water for irrigation... expensive!! The property had a shallow well that would irrigate all of it, but he couldn't water for very long before the water table dropped too low; so he couldn't water the course all night long. He had to water during the day too. When it's 50º in the spring and the sprinkler pops up when you were teeing off, it's not much fun; but when it was 100º+, it actually felt good.

After todays experience on the golf course. I don’t think I’ll be agreeing to be paired up with any randoms in the future. I am a sailor, and have a spectacular vocabulary… but these guys made me blush. Had some time to digest it, and it was almost bad enough for me to take a break from the game. These are the type of guys you see jumping carts into sand traps. It was terrible. They made us share carts and the guy I was with smoked, and I seemed to always be downwind when he lit up. I ended up walking a bunch to keep my space. I don’t want to be any part of a party on the course. I feel bad for these guys significant others….

Played in our Club's singles match play event today. On the front I shot a crazy 39 won 5 holes tied 3 and lost 1. AND then we Played the back. I though I was off to another crazy 9 after a birdie on #10 a Par 5 and then we came to a stop with 3 4somes a head of us. I guess the waiting got to me and ended up with a 50 WTH?????? And it seems like my opponent stroked on every hole. I still ended up winning the match 7/5

I've gotten into the habit of double-checking the number on the club when I pull it out of the bag .. especially wedges. Picked that up from watching the US Open when it was at Merion .. and when good ole Phil Mickelson was still a fan fav and going for his first US Open win .. and was coming up to #18 on Sunday afternoon either tied for the lead or with a one shot lead .. had like 60ish yards to the pin .. .. flew the green, lost the lead .. .. and later said he pulled the wrong wedge..!!

Played a course that I had not previously played today. Shot 38/42 for an 8 over par 80. Lost a golf ball on the back side (and we were pretty sure where it should have been (in play) -- just never found it). We had 3 foursomes playing this course today since the women had our course tied up with a tournament. As a twist to our betting game, we had 3 bets ($2 per bet). One bet was individual skins, one bet was total number of greens hit by the foursome for all 18 holes, and the last bet was a two hole glory hole totaling the best 3 gross scores for 2 designated holes. I had one birdie, but it didn't get a skin and we only had 3 skins total. My team won the greens bet. And it was a 3 way tie for the glory hole bet. So, I came out $2 bucks ahead for the bet.

  27. You should see my line of work. “WE ARE GONNA CHANGE EVERYTHING FOR NO GOOD REASON.” But… ”IT WILL WORK 110% BETTER THAN THE LAST.” But it wasn’t broken to begin with, and we are going back to the late 80’s technology. ”GET ON THE TRAIN OR GET RAN OVER.” This happens pretty much every year. It’s wonderful. Changing something just to change it has never worked, and it usually only benefits the few people, or person that came up with it on their next eval… Not saying that’s what’s going on here, but adding to your comments a smidge.

Don't worry about that hole, we all have them. Looks like a tight fairway and a bladed wedge might have caused some havoc. You're just getting the bad mojo out and I see some better rounds in your future.

  33. 39/46 for an 85 yesterday. Round was a bit of a mixed bag. I only hit 6 fairways and 6 GIR with 34 putts. Not sure if that says more about the state of my game for the positives or things that need to be cleaned up. Pleased with my scoring but not pleased with the mistakes I’m making off the tee and with my irons. Really hard time making quality iron shots and on the back 9 lately I’ve lost my driver frequently. Gonna need to take a step back and re evaluate as these are typically my strong points

Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights yesterday. Gorgeous day and the course was nearly empty. We finished in 70 minutes. Really thought about calling in to work and continuing the round. Best part was playing around the sprinkler system on 8. We hit our drives, waited for the sprinkler to pass, then rushed up and hit our approaches and darted away before we got wet. Fun mini game! Overall we played great; 43 for Owen and 44 for me. I duffed one chip, topped one drive, but otherwise my striking was pretty clean.

  38. There were lots of pictures taken yesterday, but none by me, lol. We started the day with a shotgun start at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick. I thought it was a very nice course. I played with Gavin and Kiran while Kenny, Bill and Martha were the group behind us and spent the day hitting golf balls into us. The weather was great, low 80s and no clouds with minimal wind. I finished bogey, bogey, double. Which was disappointing. Still, cared a 79 and had a fun time. After Canyon Lakes we grabbed some teriyaki for lunch. then Bill, Gavin and I met up at Pasco Golfland which is a 9 hole par 3 course. It was a very fun course, in surprisingly good condition. Then to see Kenny and Martha's house for happy hour and the site of Kenny's future swing bay. Dinner at a local sports bar to watch Gavin's hopes for an Avalanche Stanley Cup have to wait at least one more game. A drive to Walla Walla after dinner to switch hotels, and now I'm getting ready for Wine Valley. Today is a good day.

  45. ... I have several electric products and they all exceeded my expectations. Electric mower back in Chicago that was whisper quiet and enough juice to do both front and back yards. No pollutant smells or smoke, just plug back in and ready for next time. Of course my remote controlled ZIP with enough juice to easily go 36 and made it 54 a couple times by accident. I hate noisy, smelly gas golf carts on the course and thankfully most here are electric. I think with a home charger, you might be surprised at how many miles you can get before it runs out. I am not trying to convince you to change as that is your personal decision. All I am trying to do is to convince you to change.
