    How'd you play?

It has been brutally hot here - perhaps our rainy season has finally kicked in though which will relieve some of that. At any rate we've just been playing nine on one of the weekend days depending upon my preaching schedule. Since I'm involved in the LAB test my practice has only been putting. I shot a nice 37 yesterday, 2 birdies, 3 bogeys. My shot of the day was actually in the midst of one of the bogeys - I misjudged the wind on number 8 and my shot ended up long and left - thought I had 160 into the wind turned out it was down wind - never a good thing with a 9 wood, I can easily hit that bad boy 180 down wind. So I found myself inside a still dry hazard - checked for gators, checked for snakes and saw none so went in with 8 iron, pitched it into the bank leading to the green, climbed the hill perfectly and left myself a 15 footer for par straight up the hill - lipped out the putt but still saved a big stroke with that shot.

  2. My brother-in-law and family came up for the weekend. So Tim and I took the opportunity to get some golf in on Saturday. We went over to the course at 9:30 and it was empty. Don't know why but I mean empty. We warmed up on the driving range then headed to the first tee. Still no one in site. I didn't keep score for myself but I played ok. Two birds and two others that lipped out. Bunch of pars and a few bogies. Drives and approaches were going well. Since I had a new grip put on my putter I am having an issue with short putts missing right. I got to check the grip alignment. I'm not sure if it's the grip that just doesn't work for me or what. It's a superstroke flatso. The original superstroke that came with the club was not this style. So I settled with what was in stock at my local golf store. Tim struggled with the speed of my greens and wound up with a 94. I got to remember to bring my stimpmeter to see what they are running. Being above the hole is a recipe for a three putt if you don't drain the first one. My greens are fast. With Tim living down in NC just over the border from the Myrtle Beach area and plays decent courses regularly saying that my greens are the fastest he ever played on says something. After 18 we went in and had lunch. Feeling better with a full belly and sitting in the A/C, I half jokingly asked him if he wanted to play another 9 holes. He said he never play 27 before and was game. We left everything loaded on the cart when we went in the club house to eat. So off we went right to the first tee. Still no one around! It was weird because it seemed like it took 15 minutes to play another 9. It didn't, but it seemed to go by quick. I did hit one totally crap drive on hole 8. Duck hook. This is the third round where a duck hook popped up its ugly head. Normally I hit my drives dead straight where I aim. I'll get it figured out. Quickly I hope! Probably because I was getting quick. No birds on the second run at the front 9. Pars and a few bogies. Great day to be out. Got home and put golf and before I knew it we both were in power nap mode.

Still can’t play but can eat! Bacon Boyz played a course near our house so they Texted me when they got close to finish. SWMBO dropped me off at Diner and one of the Guys carted my full butt home. Good to see everyone, been 3 weeks. Their eating habits haven’t changed

  4. PNW Spy Meet-up | Round 7 | Wildhorse GC | Pendleton, OR Yesterday, Kenny, Martha, Chris and I completed the last official round of the meet-up. The course at Wildhorse Casino Resort is fantastic - I think we were all in agreement that aesthetically, it was the best of the four we played. The addition of trees, lakes, and surrounding farmland vistas was hard not to gather in while focusing on the game. We even saw an Osprey dive into the lake at #16 and struggle getting a smaller sized carp airborne. I carded an 80 after rinsing my drive on #18 and failing to make the one putt for a sub 80 round . After the round, we had lunch at the casino and said our goodbyes as we headed back for home. Today is Timberstone with @GrumpyGolf

    How'd you play?

Played for the first time at a new course and it was a muni in the LA area. Overall, not a great score, ball striking was off for the first few holes. I was hitting my driver much further than normal because of how dry the grass was. Had to be at least 30 yards farther on average just due to the fairways been so dry. On one hole, 365 yards according to the scorecard (don't know how long it was actually playing), and my second shot I only had 67 yards in to the green. The reason my score was bad, two reasons. One was short game (chipping specifically). I've never had to chip off of such dry grass and dry bare dirt spots before. Figured it out by the end of 9 hole rounds though (9 hole course). Second was that misses that I thought were safe were definitely not safe. Pulled a shot about 10 yards left of the green, but I thought it would be fine, it landed where there should have been rough, but there was minimal brown grass and dirt, so the ball rolled like 20 yards and down an embankment. It wasn't even a thin shot, its just there was not really much grass to stop it.

  6. ... Hello?!? The safest place is in the golf bag, but YB's ego won't let him sit out a potential birdie putt. This isn't even taking into account YB looks like an egg yoke to a bear.

  7. One more note for the trip, @fixyurdivot Is a monster. other than Galena where they laughed at him, he walked every round of this event. Some of the courses were easier then others, but Wine Valley was over 6 miles, almost 90 degrees out and very hilly.

  8. YB wasn't afraid of the alligator that ate him. Obviously smart enough to leave the human behind and make a perfect run for the cup to hide in. But it seems that everyone who plays a yellow ball has balls!

  10. PNW Spy Meet-up | Round 6 | Wine Valley | Walla Walla, WA Add this one to your list folks... it's a fantastic golf course! With the addition of two of Chris's business friends, the two groups split up by age; youngsters out as a foursome with Kenny, Martha, and I following along. It was another bluebird, near perfect weather day - we definitely chose the right week for this gathering . I carded a 44/41 and only missed two of the narrow, thread the needle fairways . Definitely a finalist in my "coolest flag" design contest.

    How'd you play?

I shot my personal best 77 yesterday for the 3rd time in my life. I was +1 thru 15 and doubled 2 of the last 3. I am obviously not upset with my round as it is the best I have ever played but this seems to be a recurring theme when I am playing really well to finish poorly. I dont know if it is nerves or pressure of not being somewhere I have ever been before on the scorecard, but I can remember the same feeling when trying to break 80 that I dont feel anymore after I have done it a handful of times. Its also a weird feeling to walk away from the course both happy and frustrated, but I guess that sums up the game of golf pretty well.

Yesterdays shootout was ok not real bad not real good as a team I was pretty pleased with myself. We only had a 3 man team so we did get an extra ball. Both of my partners I have played with before and are big hitters. Man both of them could not hit it in 3 fairways. I had to do my thing of throttling it back in the middle. Our greens were horrid and the only chance we had to make putts was to ram jam one we had several lipouts. Ended up at -3. I do not really know what won it because they wanted to do the awards outside because they were preparing the clubhouse for a wedding. I told my buds I was not sitting outside and it cooking with my one ticket to win a $5 towel or a cheap sleeve of golf balls. Besides the folks the wedding was for are members and friends of mine and I play quite a bit of golf with them. I went home to shower and rest because I did DJ for them at the party. The wedding was a blast and it is the first time I have done a DJ in like 10 years. i actually had a guy approach me and ask if I wanted to work his club? I told him no thanks as a norm I do not DJ or work sound anymore outside of Church. I made the one exception here because they are dear friends of mine and besides I did it willingly for free. As usual with any event at our club the food was outstanding. A guy who knows me tried to get me to do Karoke singing "Curtis Lowe" which I used to do but not in public since my cousin was killed. Then he tried to get me to do Strokin by Clarence Carter--- I told him as a Born Again Christian I do not sing stuff like that anymore. I can not really sing but I used to get by on those 2. LOL had to get a kid to help me with the computer because some did Lady Ga Ga and I know beans about that and some newer stuff. Now the oldies and beach music I could look it up ok. As usual fun in Stu's World

Very, very cool Good luck with it!! I've always been intrigued by learning to fly, but never .. haha .. pulled the trigger. Was thinking just the other day how I passed up taking an intro class in high school... OK now this is totally random ... ..and now you know!

  18. I bought a Callaway Rogue ST Max D driver recently and am liking it so far. It's much more forgiving than my old driver and it seems to launch farther the easier I swing. Also just for the heck of it, I got a couple dozen TaylorMade RBZs to try out.

... I wish I knew someone in Law Enforcement I could have called. Played with two 30somethings last year at Starpass in Tucson and one pulled his tee shot almost hitting a huge Saguaro so then they decided to TRY and hit it with several balls until they did. After the first attempt I told them it was against the law and one replied "so are a lot of other fun things" We told them to go ahead of us and after several weak insults they did. We reported them to the ranger and he said without video evidence nothing he could do but he would talk to them. He catches up with us later and said they were "too polite" in denying everything and had no idea why we would lie or stop playing with them, which of course is pretty much an admission without being an admission. The guys in the video remind me of the two we played with: https://www.iheart.com/content/2020-12-07-golfer-takes-aim-at-protected-saguaro-cactus-in-viral-video/

    How'd you play?

Played my weekly round yesterday due to a family function commitment today. Got paired up with a father and son, son about 20 years old outfitted in full University of Michigan colors. I let them tee off first all day, kept same order off all tees. (Mistake number 1). I played well, only missed 2 fairways off the tee, I left and the other a push right. Temperature was 90 with high humidity, and course was backed up and playing very slow. Only greens missed were all long?????????? I don't know if it was because they would hit green and bounce off, ground was pretty firm or if I didn't factor in wind conditions. (Mistake number 2). Unfortunately, 2 putted every green, more due to green speed being a tad bit slower than normal for this course. (Mistake number 3). As I mentioned a while ago, been demoing a couple driver heads and shafts, played this round with the Titleist TSi2 9 degree head and Ventus TR 5S shaft. Still not convinced that the added height the TR shaft gives over the Ventus Black is correct for me. High flight window, but not much roll out. Best shots with this shaft compared to the Black are similar distance wise, maybe 5 yards difference total, but much different flight to get there. Shot 40 / 42 and the round took just under 6 hours to complete.

  21. Picked up this (available on Amazon)... Jon Sherman is the founder and author on Practical Golf; seems to post a lotta good info about playing the game of golf (ie. on course coaching, and not swing instruction). The first part of the book is all about "Managing Expectations" - which I really really need..... Then he goes into.. "Strategy", "Practice" (he also does a podcast with Adam Young) and "Mental Game". Lots of charts, tables, data, illustrations to help reinforce ideas. The whole thing looks very well produced and presented, and really looking forward to digging through it!

Continuing my little hot streak, hopefully this can become the norm. 39/40 -> 79/78 ESC on Thursday and 35/39 -> 74 this morning. Driver still showing some signs up perking up, today it didn't kill my score for the first time in a while. Two doubles this morning to go along with four birdies. If I could clean up those doubles, I'd be ecstatic.

  23. Wow, Wine Valley. Another really fun day out golfing. @gavinski91was a ball striking machine and managed a couple looks at eagles after some some spectacular wood shots. The sun was out, the wind was down and the fairways were very wide.

13 under for today's scramble. Course was in mint shape and we played well. It was tee times rather than a scramble so we'll find out how we fared around dinner time.

Owen and I got in the back nine at River Heights today. He went +6 and I went +12 (48). Good contact today. Hit my driver 280 on hole 12 for a new long and clobbered my 8 iron 170 to sky past the pin on a par three. I continue making solid contact and my club distances are going up and up. Hopefully soon I can start reigning them in and getting everything a little more on target. That said I kept coming up short on my short approaches. I wouldn't say its the yips, but the idea of thinning it into the next county is in my head and I wind up wussing out on the shot. On the whole, though...a really good round. I chunked the hell out of one shot but otherwise my misses are legitimate (if that makes sense) and generally things that I can diagnose as they happen. Promising days ahead!

Played 9 yesterday; gonna go another 9 this afternoon. Tee shots were, umm, interesting - speaking of natural resources earlier, I seemed to be getting a little too friendly with the trees on the right side of the fairway 5/9 times! Four of those were blocked straight right, last hole was a bona fide slicearoo... Hey made good contact tho The other four tee shots were... #1 ok playable; #5 absolutely perfect for me could not have hit it better; #7 short Par 3 almost pin high about 15 feet or so right; #8 par 5 got it over the crest of the first hill into a decent position. So not all "bad". Wedges were .. naturally .. opposite of last round where I was running the ball by the hole. This time was trying to hit the ball with more trajectory and spin, and was mostly successful with that, but came up short a lot... ..a lot to keep working on! Including... my mental game... I definitely expect way too much out of myself - need to keep reminding myself that I'm just an average recreational golfer and mistakes DO happen! In fact just picked up a new book, "The Four Foundations Of Golf" (by Jon Sherman of Practical Golf), and the first part .. the first ¼ of the book .. is "Managing Expectations". So yeah digging right into that section!!

  28. There were lots of pictures taken yesterday, but none by me, lol. We started the day with a shotgun start at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick. I thought it was a very nice course. I played with Gavin and Kiran while Kenny, Bill and Martha were the group behind us and spent the day hitting golf balls into us. The weather was great, low 80s and no clouds with minimal wind. I finished bogey, bogey, double. Which was disappointing. Still, cared a 79 and had a fun time. After Canyon Lakes we grabbed some teriyaki for lunch. then Bill, Gavin and I met up at Pasco Golfland which is a 9 hole par 3 course. It was a very fun course, in surprisingly good condition. Then to see Kenny and Martha's house for happy hour and the site of Kenny's future swing bay. Dinner at a local sports bar to watch Gavin's hopes for an Avalanche Stanley Cup have to wait at least one more game. A drive to Walla Walla after dinner to switch hotels, and now I'm getting ready for Wine Valley. Today is a good day.

  29. LOL...Boy are you going to be disappoited I meant I was just going to give reminder that some playing spots for both Saturday and sunday were still available, and that in a couple weeks, I'd start maybe asking for group preferences or putting together grroups for the tee times. I know that's prett lame compared to a Aerosmith drop in, but it's at least on par with a lecture from @Tony Covey MGS

I would love for Fujikura to replace the breaks regardless, but there are two scenarios at play here: 1. The person who broke the shaft bought the shaft from someone other than an authorized dealer , such as buying second hand 2. If the person bought from an authorized dealer and is not getting the shaft replaced, the authorized dealer is not being persistent enough with Fuji on this. as a dealer, i got the "we don't normally warranty this type of break, but..."

  31. That's all just crazy and of course one big PITA! Hope you can get it resolved... Knock on wood .. imagine me knocking with a fist on the top of my own head .. my old Samsung and old Android (stuck on v. 10) seem to be working just fine. I say that 'cuz it's often the iphone iOS apps that get all the developer and support love!

  32. And yet another update: (emoji that should show me pulling my hair out) I'll start by saying I'm a strong believer in the product - my V3 has performed almost flawlessly (with operator error causing minor inconveniences). With that said the saga of my wife's V3 continues. Ok so we got a V3 replacement from SS - thank you - it even came a couple of days early. Today we decided to test the watch by playing one hole (yes we live on a golf course). The watch was properly set-up including the course. On the tee box, the V3 showed the correct FMB distances and the driver sensor was picked up. The following shots also showed the clubs utilized. Upon completion of this hole we selected 'End Round" . I also confirmed in the 'History' on the V3 that the 'round' existed. Then we went to sync It showed the V3 as connected and then uploading. The app got stuck at 0 and just froze at that point ( I shut it down after about 10 minutes) Note: we have: 1. Signed out of the app 2. Deleted the App 3. Did a hard reboot of the iphone to clear the cache 4. Went through the reinstall and sign-in No success as we still ended up with the same result. HELP we are at wits end. FYI again, my V3 and my iphone App work just fine - so I don't believe this is operator error. I never had an issue with downloading, editing etc. Both of us are running the same Apple ios (15.5) on iPhone SE hardware and she is also running the latest firmware on her V3 and the latest App version. @Gavin_Shot_Scope can you help??

  33. Shafts in of themselves aren’t going to increase launch. It’s your swing that affects that. The shaft is there to give weight and feel. If either are off for your swing or could negatively impact your results. When it comes to launch you need to evaluate your swing path, face to path, aoa, dynamic loft and where you are making contact on the face. Also evaluate what those do to spin
