  1. Let me help you out here Stu…. First of all the protests you’re referring to? It’s Portland. Out there they have protests to protest what they’re protesting about. Once they find out Pumpkin Ridge is about 25 miles from anything, they’ll just protest whatever the nearest protest to them is protesting. Second, yes it’s true a few people resigned their memberships, but those were filled with new members immediately by the club. In fact I heard one of those who left had second thoughts, but no openings for him to rejoin were available, and he had to go to the end of their wait list. I’m pretty sure he’s planning a protest now also.

  2. I'm fairly certain the colleges have a class on protesting that is required to graduate.

  3. PNW Spy Meet-up | Round 8 | Timberstone GC | Caldwell, ID Today I met up with @GrumpyGolf(Wayne) for a round at Timberstone. We had a single join us and we had near perfect weather - though a little hot on the final stretch. This is a really nice course, well maintained, and a very reasonably price. It's a little off the beat and track but not too bad. My only negative score goes to them not having pin flags with logo's.... what's up with that? I carded a 44/41 with some local course knowledge help from both Wayne & Kevin. There are some hidden trouble spots to navigate around. I'm not sure what to make of the rather unique bunkers; other than hitting one of those railroad ties could yield some unexpected ball position. We had a great time and Wayne is ready for the 5th Annual PNW Spy Meet-up and willing to schedule a Boise area itinerary . Tomorrow is my final round of this whirlwind trip; Blackfoot ID's local municipal along the Snake River. 9 rounds (9 1/2 if I throw in the 9 hole Pasco exec) in 10 days... piece of cake .

  4. Really got after it over the weekend. 12 fairways and 11 GIR with 36 putts. The bad 5 3 putts. Mostly all due to the fact of poor positioning from the pin. 41/41 for 82 on the day. I had a chance to get a birdie in 18 but I over though my approach shot and caught it to soft landing it in the creek. Only ball lost on the day.. overall things are trending to the point where I’m making mistakes but still playing really good

  5. Ok cool so they are like James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. " What are you protesting" What ya got?" LOL I guess some people live to protest sorta like we live to play golf. Me personally I just do like a old Camel sit back and take in the view. I guess the member you mentioned stepped off in it and now regrets it. To my practicle mind even though I have my moral opinions that would be a stupid reason to resign a club membership especially if I liked the place and had friends there. And I can see the money the club gets off of it will help keep the club operating

  6. I had an absolute blast on the trip! Didn't take many pictures, but have plenty of great memories! Round 1 - Apple Tree GC, Yakima WA Apple Tree was a great start to the trip. @Kieran was looking like he might break 90 for the first time ever, starting off the round with par on the first 3 holes, but unfortunately fell just shy of that mark. My scorecard was a collection of circles and squares - 3 birdies (a personal best), 4 pars, 6 bogeys, 4 doubles, and a snowman for an 87. Kieran on the 17th tee. In defense of him, @fixyurdivot, and I, there was a tournament coming through after us with a $10k HIO prize, so they had moved the white tees all the way back to the tips (~185 yards). On the bright side, even though we all missed the green, we were close enough that the splash from our balls did hit the green. Martha was unimpressed that @Kenny B's tee was in front of hers, but they both managed to hit the green.IMG_4391.MOV Round 2 - Sun Willows, Pasco WA Kieran and I joined @Thin2win for an evening round at Sun Willows. I don't know that I've ever played 36 holes in a single day, and it was catching up with me on the back 9 - a lot of drives blocked out right, and a lot of putts coming up short. We were moving pretty quick (Arccos says our pace of play was 2:55) so I didn't take any pictures. As we were adding up the scores in the parking lot, we realized that Kieran's 4-footer that lipped out on 18 was for an 89 - instead for the third time he matched his personal best score of 90. I managed to beat my little younger brother again, this time by just 1 stroke. Round 3 - Canyon Lakes GC, Kennewick WA Again, no photos from me here - one of the benefits of playing with the Arccos Caddie Link is that I can leave my phone in the cart for the most part, but the side effect is that I rarely have it handy to take a quick picture. Kieran had to leave after the front nine and head back home for a friends wedding, so Chris dropped off his OneWheel at that point and joined me in the cart for the back nine, where we had a great time nerding out about golf balls, shafts, spin numbers, course management, and all other kinds of golf topics. I was striking the ball decently well and managed to hit 8 fairways, 9 GIRs, and 3 up-and-downs. Unfortunately what Chris likely remembers most about the round is my 5 3-putts, but my final score of 85 was still my best for the week. Round 4 - Pasco Golfland, Pasco WA After Canyon Lakes, Bill, Chris, and I grabbed some lunch and then headed over to a surprisingly nice 9-hole par 3 course next to the airport in Pasco. The notable highlight for me was the 171-yard 6th hole, where my 8-iron tee shot rolled just past the pin and settled inside of 3 feet. I think that's the KP benchmark for @DiscipleofPenick and the rest of the Ohio crew to beat when they get together! Round 5 - Wine Valley GC, Walla Walla WA My last round of the trip was at the course I enjoyed the most - Wine Valley. The total absence of trees and significant structures (other than the club house) made aiming off the tee difficult at times, but the course style and conditions made for an amazing experience. It helped that I was hitting my driver and fairway woods well - I was averaging 265 yards with my driver (long of 291) and on 3 of the par 5 holes I was on or next to the green in 2. Unfortunately I carded a 9 on the 15th hole after struggling with some knee-deep fescue and deep bunkers (which are more like waste areas - they use the natural clay-silt soil instead of sand) and finished the round with an 86. Here's Josh with an approach shot after a great drive on one of the par 4s: IMG_4398.MOV And Tiffany with a tee shot on a par 3: And I would be remiss if, after all the pre-trip talk about eagles (or the lack thereof), I didn't give you all the eagle watch update. Surprisingly to me, over the 3 days that I played I had 4 looks at eagle, but unfortunately I still have yet to capture the majestic bird. One lip-out, two more in tap-in range, and a 66-footer that rolled past but never really had a chance. So for now, my profile picture remains the same and the hunt continues!

    How'd you play?

Played black tees, 6500 yds, shot 78. Had a whole bunch of long second shots! One double (stupid) and 2 birds. played with a young fellah who was an EMT who outdrove me by 30 yds or more, consistantly. Super nice kid… he told me a few stories, that’s a nasty job those guys do.. yikes

  9. One of the owners of my course is one of the coaches of his son's High School Golf team. In fact his son competed at Augusta in the DCP year before last. Sometimes they play matches at our course. They had one event with like 10 teams this past spring. I got a cart found me a good spot and watched. Trust me they can play. I know in the Spring of 23 they are having some kind of National event at our course and I have my cart and my spot in the shade reserved. Like I said I like watching good golf being played no matter who plays it. I know some of the members grumble on tournament days and are already mumbling about the 2 day spring event. One chided me over watching and I told him he was jealous because he could not play like them when he was their age much less now. In fact I dug the barb in deeper and told him hell fire he could not beat my crippled fat butt now much less those high schoolers hitting it 250 or more

  10. Streamlining is a great option Combining unofficial and official tests are great. Just wish maybe there was a way to put reviews at the top in an expandable drop down to read them with comments then right below. That way they are more like a traditional tread maybe (but I am sure this is a system limitation). Great work on the SEO changes I know the HQ testing is just a wait and see approach, but the talk was priority for those that advertise on the main site. I think the last bullet is the type of engagement we would want from HQ. Bring the knowledge and expertise here as well interacting with those on the forums. Getting to ask Tony about layer incursions of golf balls would have to be the best read thread on here right?

  11. Late one afternoon, the Air Force folks out at Area 51 were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their “secret” base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room. The pilot’s story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the Base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full FBI background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation. By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn’t a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying “you-did-not-see-a-base” briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a heading, and sent him on his way. The day after that though, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP’s surrounded the plane… only this time there were two people in the plane. The same pilot jumped out and said, “Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!”

  12. Important to note there is a new member testing platform being tested by several members that integrates in with the current platform we have. So the questions that follow along with it are in my opinion. 1. With a planned streamlining of the forum (yes I'll start some work on that soon) can we cross place the tests. Example if we have a driver sub forum, can test be placed not just in testing, but also in that sub forum? 2. The testing platform itself and yes there was talk about moving back, altho signups would remain the same. However the new member reviews (unofficial reviews) is based off the new testing platform (meaning if we got a test for say Stealth, then member reviews would also show in there meaning all Stealth reviews, both official and non official in one page/thread). Will it even be adopted as the new system is disliked so much? 3. SEO... well that is in the hands of another Mod as he does digital marketing so hopefully we see progress with that. 4. I really can't speak to HQ testing. There is no update there and no tests on the horizon so we will see what happens. 5. What about more HQ involvement? Say we get member calls (zoom and such) where HQ staff will be on and the forum membership can ask questions about say Most Wanted testing when it comes out or Ball Lab call with Tony? Is that something that could help or be of use to membership?

  13. I have been think about this last part a bit lately, what should MSG forum be. I think the natural analog to a blog mostly about testing equipment with regular golfers for Most Wanted Testing and Testing soft goods, would be a forum built around testing and the real world experience of everyday golfers (or at least as close to everyday golfer as a group that likes to talk about golf in their free time can be). With that being said why couldn't we leverage existing relationships with OEMs and those small brands the HQ has advertising that have clearly become a testing priority to become the home of user testing. That and the expansion of the unofficial tests could really create a great tove of information for interested users to find. That with better search engine SEO work mentioned above I think could really help drive up the engagement. Probably a bit of a pipe dream. Of course if that is not the goal then scrap all that and make the smaller tweaks to make existing testing easier to find would be my first priority.

  14. I'll admit that I have not read past the first page yet, but I have seen a lot of posts already that I am in full agreement with. Maybe I'm adding nothing new, but here goes: 1) Overall attitude of HQ. I don't know if my "fan-boi" status has changed, they have changed, or both, but I'm no longer much of a fan of HQ. Why is there no marketing or interaction between HQ and the forums? 2) Staff changes. I'm going to be blunt. I do not like the current direction of the forum and I can only assume it is a result of the mod/admin changes. Granted, I have not been around that much recently as a result of my opinions, but @GolfSpy_APH and @GolfSpy_BOS are the only two that seem to be around and interact much. I can only assume the others are doing a ton behind the scenes because they don't seem very visible. Did the new admin bite off more than he could chew at the time he took over? I can't judge that, but one of the focus group DM's in which feedback was being collected for him went unread by him for weeks/months at a time. It's hard to claim you care about the opinions of others when you make no effort to get the opinions. 3) The new testing page rollout was a disaster. There was no change management, it just happened. I was part of the Callaway Epic test last year and the comments/interactions were way, way, way down compared to a comparable test prior to the change. I have to assume that means companies like Callaway see and notice fewer eyeballs and question the investment. Obviously I have no way of knowing if that had any effect or if HQ has burned bridges, but fewer eyeballs is never a good thing. I originally came here for a testing opportunity and stuck around because I learned a lot about equipment very quickly. I've been very fortunate in testing and most of my bag is a direct result of tests, but that was not the reason I stuck around. It was certainly a fringe benefit, but I stuck around for the community and have met some great people face-to-face and online as a result of this place. I feel like the forum is suffering from an identity crisis. I have no doubt the forum will survive as long as Adam sees fit to allow it to continue, even without the big tests we have gotten used to, but to thrive I feel like someone needs to figure out what we want to be and market it appropriately.

  15. ROTFLMAO---- The Distinguished Gentlemans Thread MGS Hall Of Fame--- Newbies well worth the time to look up and read. When I first came on here in reality I was just learning how to work a computer social media wise. I could run like truck diagnostic programs etc. One thing I liked on here was the fact there were good folks I could talk golf with. In the area I live in a lot of people play golf but know nothing about the game. In the days past folks used to hang around the game room before or after the round enjoy a beverage and talk golf and other things. Now days no one around here does that. Another thing about MGS was in the beginning I was the only one here that played vintage equipment and the good folks here put up with me. That last leads up to the last paragraph. I never put in for a lot of tests because a lot of the new stuff does not appeal to me. I would rather another member test and use the equipment than me test and not maybe be objective. Now when I test I do go all out. I did do the Renegar wedge test because I am a wedge Ho and love to experiment with wedges of all brands and eras. I worked with Rob on that one because I had to do some mods for me to hit including weighting up and some lie adjustments. But I did do detailed notes on what and why I did what I did. I did wring them out to the max and today a friend of mine is still playing them because I gave them to him The Precision Pro I put in for that because my ancient Bushnell was dying and frankly a heavy bulky PITA to use. I still use the Precision Pro to this day still dependable and has never given me any trouble and it holds its own still with anything. I do not need the slope thing because with my uncanny math and trig skills I can figure out slope pretty well The Motocaddy for myself I have a mixed bag on. I had applied to test it and everyone at the time knew my physical status. Motocaddy and the Staff here thought an outside the box test for me to rehab was a good idea. I am grateful for that. It did get me out on the range and walking some plus I could take my creature comforts with me to the range. I did put it through the ringer some and had a lot of fun with it and yes even managed to turn it over one time. But I still felt the test was incomplete without some actual course time. I could manage about 3 holes and that was it. I tried a vintage Hickory event with it on a Par 3 course and I had permission to use it because of my status. LOL it drew some attention kinda a mix with the modern cart bag they gave us with some genuine 75 to 100 year old Hickory clubs in it. I gave out after 9 holes. Not the Motocaddy but me. Yes it helped my back rehab but we did not know at the time my right knee was giving out. I talked to Rob on this and turned it over to Tom The Golf Nut to finish the test. Now with all of that being said I still read and absorb the information on new stuff because my mind works like that always open and absorbing fresh information. I may not comment per say but read

  16. After many years of living happily ever after, Cinderella is now old. The prince has passed, the servants have left, and she sits alone with only her cat for company. Suddenly there was a flash, and a woman appeared. Cinderella immediately recognized that it was her fiary godmother! "My dear, I've some to check up on you! How did it all work out with the prince?" Cinderella told her, "Oh, it was a wonderful life! The prince was a fabulous and loving husband, and life was awesome." The fairy godmother replied, "But you seem sad now." "Well, the prince is gone, and while he was a great spouse, he was a lousy financial planner, and now I'm old and quite poor. I live alone with only my cat, and I can't even feed him properly." The fairy godmother answered, Ah, but you were kind and generous to others, so I have the power to give you three new wishes. What would you like?" Cinderella was gobsmacked! "Well, could you make me rich again?" With a flash, the room was filled floor to ceiling with gold. "Oh my goodness, such a treasure! But I'm an old lady, I can't spend this. Could you also make me young again?" With another flash, Cinderella was transformed back into her young prime, slim and gorgeous. Now that she was young again, she realized she was feeling things she hadn't felt in a while, and said she'd like the prince back. "Oh no, my dear, I can't raise the dead! You have to wish for something else." Cinderella thought about it, and looked down at her cat, and said, "Ginger has always been my loving companion. Can you turn my cat into a man?" With another flash the cat was transformed into an extremely handsome fine specimen of a man. At that the fairy godmother said, "Enjoy your new life, I an off!", and disapearred as quickly as she had come. Cinderella blinked the bright flashes out of her eyes, and gazed at her new beau. He leaned over with wide eyes, and whispered in her ear, "Now I bet you wish you hadn't cut my nuts off!"

    How'd you play?

Played another course in the village that I had not previously played. I struggled somewhat today. Just wasn't hitting the ball as well as I normally play. The course was in decent shape and a nice track with really great finishing holes, although the greens were rather slow and I heard the traps were awful (I didn't find myself in any bunkers, so I'll have to take their word for it). Shot an 85, but it felt like I played worse.

The total absence of trees and significant structures (other than the club house) made aiming off the tee difficult at times, but the course style and conditions made for an amazing experience." I never gave this much thought until now. I have always played courses with something to aim towards ( trees, telephone poles, features on a house in the background, mountain ridge or something) there is always something. I have played over 150 courses and in 25 states so far and there was always something! I think I would have a tough time adjusting.

  24. I wish I'd played better for the Spys that made the trip to the Columbia Basin for a very nice 4-5 days of golf. I started off great in the Wednesday warmup round with Bill, Chris and Martha at my home course... Columbia Point... with a round of 80 that included one birdie, one double and one triple! I thought I was going to have a great Outing!! I was wrong. Off to Apple Tree in Yakima on Thursday morning and a round of 91 where I hit for "the cycle"... par, bogey, double, triple, and quad!! Next... back to the Tri-Cities on Friday for a 7:30am shotgun start (actually started on #!) at Canyon Lakes (not one of my favorites in town) and a round of 89 with 4 doubles and only 4 pars. Saturday was an afternoon round at Wine Valley near Walla Walla where I only had 2 doubles, but also a birdie...Yay! and a round of 88; just a whole lot of bogeys. Finally, on Sunday we headed to the Wildhorse Casino Resort in Pendleton, OR for lovely round of 89 with 5 doubles (penalties)!! I guess I was fairly consistent with play at courses that are not my home course... averaging about 10 shots higher. Yeah, I know my course pretty well. The main difference was in putting. Each of the other courses was different than my course; mostly slower greens and much more undulations than my course has. I finally started putting better at Wildhorse because their greens were very similar to my course. I finally got through my pics of the 2022 PNW Spy Meet-Up, so I thought I'd add a few more... Columbia Point - Apple Tree - Canyon Lakes - Wine Valley - Wildhorse - Osprey diving into pond for a carp! Kenny's patio for a drink before dinner on Friday night... A roaster pan on Nachos Bill ordered for an appetizer!! All in all... a great week and looking forward to 2023 in ??????????

  25. Yes! This! Even after all of the golf he has played over the last week and he still had the stamina to walk Timberstone with me today! Beast is a very apt term. I will let @fixyurdivot post the pics from today as he was taking them from jump today. I played pretty good for where I am at this point in my journey back but not as well as him. I do have to take a little humble brag about out driving him on most holes but not all of them since I did my fair share of slices and hooks off the tee while he kept them up the middle for the most part. Hearing Bill's stories from the PNW Meetup for this year, I can say I am jealous for this year and honestly looking forward to next year and have already began figuring out the courses we can play here in the Boise area. I know that Timberstone and BanBury are the two musts, so now I am beginning to weed out the rest of them so that everyone can see the diversity of courses around here. Thanks for posting all the pics from the trip and looking forward to next year.

  30. Man I might be boring but please indulge me here. As most of the old timers know I am not much into newer stuff. I was reading and thinking this AM what do I need? I guess I am lucky I have won so many Srixon balls I do not need any. Bags amongst other things I am a bag ho. But I am thinking seriously about pulling the trigger on a new Jones original. Actually my wife is encouraging me because as she says I have not bought myself anything new and nice for a long time. Clubs of all kinds I have a plethera of. With my memory bad due to the hit on my head during my accident I have forgotten some of the stuff I do have. Good Example the Muirfields I am now playing I forgot I had and that they have regular shafts too. They are in pristine condition and for me like finding new clubs. I am getting healthy enough sans my bad knee to start cleaning the hoard out so Lord knows what I may find that I forgot about.

    Aftermarket driver Shaft

... With all the fittings available today, it is a no brainer to take advantage of being fit. I did 2 fittings with Callaway as my first used only the Rogue Max and we ran out of time and I didn't get to try the LS. My 2nd fitting was scheduled for 1/2 hour and the fitter kept me a full hour and it was the best driver fitting I have had. He had me hit everything, even shafts he thought wouldn't work but we had the time, the launch monitor and I was swinging very well so he was really into it. ... Some shafts felt off with the first swing and some took two swings to be pretty apparent it wouldn't work for me. He never let me take more than 2 swings if it wasn't producing the trajectory, spin and most importantly the feel I liked. He narrowed down group of shafts I hit well and liked and we went back and hit them all again. In that group, the shafts that didn't make it to my final 3 were all shafts I could easily put in play and be happy. But without the fine tuning in this fitting, there is a good chance I would be playing a shaft that works just fine but not optimum. ... What I personally found very interesting is I ended up with a stock shaft in the Tensei AV Blue 55 s flex, the Made For Callaway RCH 65 s flex and the Graphite Design AD-IZ in s/r flex. The difference came down to feel with the AD-IZ feeling best producing a nice tight kick but honestly not that much different then the other 2 shafts. Considering it is a $250 uncharge and the other 2 were stock shafts I would have no problem playing either of them and saving $250. ... I have fit myself for years and have always done reasonably well and never felt I was in a shaft/head combo that didn't work for me. But it can always be better. The big question is how much better is worth paying a ton of money? Like the AD-IZ ... is a 5% better feel with similar performance worth $250? For me no, for someone else maybe yes. So I would highly recommend going to a demo day, take advantage of a golf store launch monitor or go for a paid personal fitting and then you know you are playing what is best for your swing.

How many of you that are attending, would be "seriously" interested in a Titleist 30 minute individual fitting on Saturday after the round. Now right up front I will say, they unfortuntely will not have the new TSR in the field by then. So it would be the current lineup. Seriously, doesn't mean there's pressure to buy, but just means you havne't had a chance to be professionly fit by Titleist before and would be interested in how one of the iron lines or even the outgoing TSi might work for you. Take a moment to let me know and depending on the replies, I might be able to arrange that.

  41. And there is plenty of un tapped potential these days---- Just look at what that 20 year old did in the US Open and the Travelers last week. Never had heard of him until Greg did a WITB post for the US Open on WRX Yes the field is deep for rising stars I would say more than ever--- These College players are coming right out firing with both barrells. Another one I feel to watch out for in the future is the Theegala guy. He had a chance last week but I think the pressure and inexperience got to him but he will learn with experience. Like you I like to watch good golf period and do not care what nationality the player is from etc. Heck I have been known in the old days to grab a cart a 6 pack of beer and watch a couple of scratch players go at it for $5

  42. Have you not looked at the NBA and MLB? They are also very similar. There’s a handful of teams that are good or great and a bunch of also rans. The nba is about building super teams and only a few markets can do that. The mlb is becoming a big market league with the occasional small city winning. If one want to watch the top 1% of the the top 1% of golfers in the world they will have to make a choice of what tour they put on tv. I like watching golf for the golf so it’s easy for me. When I watch it will be the pga tour. With higher ranked players or those with some name recognition leaving the pga tour it opens the door for others to capture the spotlight.

    Cooking

So I totally failed at posting final pics. The tri tip brisket was cooked to perfection! It was cooked nearly to fall apart status but still held together enough to be called brisket. The corn with sweet BBQ rub was ridiculous! Definitely recommend any corn lover to give it a whirl.

  45. The fingers indicate the %slope that they felt with their feet. They align one side of their fingers with the hole or center of hole and the aimpoint is the edge of the outer finger. The speed of the greens influences how far they hold their fingers away from them. Using the fingers is aimpoint express.

  47. One more note for the trip, @fixyurdivot Is a monster. other than Galena where they laughed at him, he walked every round of this event. Some of the courses were easier then others, but Wine Valley was over 6 miles, almost 90 degrees out and very hilly.

  48. I was wondering how things would be for folks like you. From some of my FB feeds I see some of the residents in that area are not thrilled at all. Also saw that some of the members of the host club have resigned. The club is not like a private club but owned by a conglomarate so I do not know the member set up as to whether they have voting rights or not

  50. I think the Gen 5’s come with a guaranteed improved swing technique in addition to the actual technology of the club. Pretty sure I read that somewhere But yeah. I used the same logic as to when I bought my Highlander in November. The base model Would have served me fine and had tbe basics of what I needed. But the XLE with the Audio package added things I probably would have had regrets over not going ahead with the higher level model. Now the wait. Although with PXG it’s only like 7 days as opposed to weeks or months with some other OEM’s
