    How'd you play?

Shot a 46/45 91 for a new personal best. Nothing great but nothing terrible either. Fairly consistent through all 18 holes with five pars, four fairways, three greens and no three putts. Tee shots are not getting me into trouble as often or as bad. Starting to feel more confident on the tee box of most holes. Felt fairly chill throughout the round so I’m hopeful that I can stay on this path to lowering my scores.

  2. While the forum was down I just had to go play golf. I work from home on Fridays and every Friday is a half day. Normally I'm not a mid day player but the forum made me do it! I got to the course and the parking lot was packed. I mean not a spot left. Luckily someone was just pulling out so I was in. I looked at the clubs calendar and there was't an event scheduled. Took my clubs over to the carts and loaded up. The Pro said it was just packed for some reason. So my mind set was it was going to be a long day. 10 or so guys on the practice green, 10 or so on the driving range but nobody on the tee box. Shot right over and teed off. First hole is a slight dog leg right. Hit my drive down the fairway and once I got to my ball I noticed nobody was on the green. Made par and off I went. The golf gods were with me. I must have been between packs of golfers. I was a single and never caught up to anyone and never saw anyone behind me. Got done in my usual 2-1/4 hours. One bogey and one birdie for an ever par round. Fun round though. I got to try some alternate approaches on a few holes ( different clubs off the tee and slightly different targets). But my approaches to playing the holes from last season were still better. Thats what its all about these days. Trying something different to break up the monotony of a course I've been playing for 16 years.

  3. Got out for my usual nine. Been a couple weeks. Shot 53. From now on after listening to the Sweetspot podcast (scratch attitude) most recent episode I am only going post my best shots from my round and relive them. hole two and three. Hit two 271 yards bombs off the tee. Likely need one more round with that shaft (Tensei blue) but likely will beat out the Ventus for me. hole 4. Long par three hit my hybrid super solid but it hooked. Has me thinking more on a 7 w. Also later in the round realized that I should have pulled my 4i instead. More later. hole 6. After a tree ricochet I had 165 left to the green (par 5). To get to the green I needed to hit a draw to get around a branch. I also took extra club so I could clear a front bunker. Well I hit the purest 6i draw ever. So good it came in hot to the green and ended up in a puddle behind the 3rd tee. Sweet feeling. hole 7. Hit a really pure 8i that would have gone back of green. Uphill par 3 playing 156. My iron distance really shot up with my swing work. hole 8. Had a pitch of 60 yards. Hit it to about 12 ft. hole 9. After drive left me 205 to center. Pulled my 4i and hit the purest shot into a 10 mph wind. Ended up behind the front right of the green. This has me thinking about getting a 3 utility or a 7w and dumping my hybrid. Really I think maybe I just need more range time. also played the whole nine with one ball more progress putting distance control was good, just didn’t make the long putts which I’m fine with, I’m no pro. played with a group of guys that were all high school buddies (not with me but each other). Was a very fun time and I enjoyed the round even though I didn’t shoot low.

    How'd you play?

8 over in really tough conditions. Wind was blowing at 25mph, lots of shots across the wind. Drove the ball well, chipped the ball much better than I have been recently 7 up and downs. Made a few mistakes by over thinking things, luckily managed to dig myself out of the hole I’d made. Exhausted by the time I finished.

    How'd you play?

81 at Toka Sticks in Mesa from the tips. Everything was firing but the putter. Usually I try not to blame poor course conditions for poor play but today I'm pulling that card. 36 putts killed me and should have been closer to 30. The greens at Toka are small but not difficult if you mind the false fronts and edges. Today they seemed to be mostly rotted out with either sporadic patches of mud or uneven lengths all around the greens. It was absolutely impossible to gage any consistent pace. I literally watched a putt leave the putter face, hit the breaks and slow way down, and then speed up again on a flat surface. And to top it all off, they punched and re-seeded over a month ago so the greens should have been pristine. LAME SAUCE! I will say that I had an amazing swing breakthrough with my drive swing. The last few rounds I've been snap hooking about half of my drives. Very uncharacteristic for me but we all know how golf has it's demons that show up unannounced at any given moment. I found these 2 videos last night that just opened up world and both my irons and driver were in point thanks to mr.shortgame #2 and #3 just completely glued my swing back together and I was finding straight effortless bombs with that beautiful "holy $hit!" trajectory This is just good stuff. I've been starting most shots with my hands pressed too far forward on all of my shots which helps some with compression, but also can really cause some serious pull draws. This just helped neutralize my entire swing producing some nice high baby draws and even some controlled fades when needed.

    Golf Ball Carving

Been screwing around with golf ball carving. Got a long way to go. Looking for comments. The insides are original. I believe the white center is a BOMB ball (might be wrong), the pink center is inside a Callaway Warbird with a yellow "V" ... don't know exactly cuz I traded it for more balls to cut up. And last one is an AVX I made for our Pro "Rocket" to put on his desk ... he provided the personalized ball.

    How'd you play?

Good but weird day. 45/41 86. Naverage play with crazy ending. It was a crazy week with big deadlines. Dropped off two sets of plans to the building department at noon yesterday and decided that I wanted to play in spite of the heat (98) and the lack of sleep (2 hours). To make it even more interesting I decided to play the tips. Once again, it was very slow and the three I got paired with, were great guys, but uninterested keeping pace and we very quickly ended up almost 1.5 holes behind even with me trying to hustle them along by putting out quickly and moving to the next tee. . I played pretty well but my touch was off around the greens and on the greens. Couldn't manage to get any up and downs to drop and only had a single par on the front. I played better on the back and managed an early par with one silly three putt bogey. Around hole 14 we were almost 2.5 holes behind and I only had an hour until I needed to go pick up my daughter so I politely split off from the group and quickly played the next three (all pars). Pace of play is real. Getting to 18(par5) with 30 minutes to spare I figure no problem I'm good. There was a 4some on the tee that invited me to play 18 with them and mentioned that the group in front of them was glacially slow. I figure no big deal since I now have plenty of time to spare. We proceed to sit on the tee box for the next 10 minutes as they clear driving range. They weren't bad players either. All five of us hit and drive down and wait 5 more minutes for them to clear the approach area. (So slow that the group I bailed from reaches 16, putts out, and is walking into the 17th tee box.). We all got approach and are now sitting at 100 yards out waiting for them to putt putt. At this point I have personally seen them playing the hole for about 20-25 minutes and I am starting to encorach into the buffer time I left myself to get out of there and to my daughter's school in time. Finally, they finish putting out, spend an inordinately long period of time shaking hands, and chatting. I'm biting my tongue, but finally day something as one pair moseys back to their cart in front of the green and starts tallying their card. I believe I shouted "sometime today, clear the green.". Not great, but also not totally impolite. One of the guys loses his mind. Jumps out of the cart and starts chest thumping. It looks ridiculous. I'm in no mood to get into an argument or a fight so I just rive.over to my ball thinking the guy will call it a day and leave. Nope, I look up and he's still screaming at me and stomping down the fairway toward me. Ugh. I'm not concerned, I'm big, athletic and can handle myself, but I have zero intention of getting in a fist fight at 40 years old. . He's shouting something along the lines of "if you want to talk s, back it up". Meanwhile I haven't even got out of my cart because I don't want to escalate. He's now in my face screaming and trying to get me to do something. I'm calmly saying to him dude are you really getting this angry about me telling you to clear the green? That's not normal, and you should probably speak to someone about your anger issues. His buddy is sprinting down the fairway because even he didn't realize how nutso this guy was going to go. Finally he trys to push me. I'm sitting in the cart, firmly planted , and the push causes him to fall backwards. This seems to wake him up and he's now retreating with his buddy, still spitting mad and screaming, but finally calling it a day. His buddy shouts over his shoulder that I shouldn't have said anything. Maybe not, but what I said also shouldn't have caused that kind of response especially when I never also escalated. I profusely apologize to the 4 some, hit to 20 ft, brush a birdie putt by the edge, and hit the resulting gimme in for par. Weird day, I haven't been in a situation like that in 15-20 years. (Like college bouncer days long ago) and I never realized how said and pathetic the bluster looked until yesterday. Afterwards I felt genuinely bad for the guy that something so little could cause such a ballistic response.

    How'd you play?

Feast or famine on the course today....shot 11 over with 5 double bogeys (1 birdie, 2 bogey, 10 pars). 2 of the doubles involved a penalty (Put on in the water on #4 and shanked a 9 iron OB on #10). The other 3 doubles were just mental errors (one where I rushed a shot because my playing partners were slow as molasses and the other 2 were just due to my inept ability to screw up short pitches).

  14. It’s all tempo. Tempo translates to load and sequential timing. Flex is barely relevant if you can square the face at impact.

  16. Great round and congratulations on the personal best! Confidence off the tee is a big one and if you can keep mistakes to a minimum, good things can happen. Hopefully we'll read about a round in the 80's soon, but most importantly, get out there and have fun.

  23. I'm contemplating getting another hybrid to replace my 22.5° Maltby 4i. Amongst the contemplation, I'm also considering going down to an R flex. To add more specifics, I'm looking at a 24° Cobra RADspees that comes with a UST ESX 480 F3 reg flex. I know that this is a pretty stable shaft so I'm not too worried about it coming unhinged at a higher speed than the flex suggests. My lineup of wood shafts goes something like this 10.5° Driver: Fuji Motore X F1 6X (X flex) 13.5° Cobra F6 3 wood: Kuro Kage Silver 69g soft trimmed X flex 20° CobraF8 6 wood: Fuji Motore X F3 6S (S flex) So you can see that I have a thing for Cobra woods. My theory is that the softer flexes in the higher lofted woods will keep me from over swinging the club when power and distance isn't the objective. Unlike my driver and 3 wood, I want my 6 wood and Hybrid to produce high flying, higher spinning, green approaching shots. Additionally my idea is to get something that helps keep the face slightly open for a fade-bias as the tendency on hybrids is to shut down pretty easily creating hook machines. I know that my methodology might off so I'm just wondering if anybody has ever gone down 2 flexes on a hybrid or higher lofted woods.

  24. Shafts don’t launch or spin. They do two things. Provide weight and feel. There are shafts out there from some companies that have r flex that will play stiffer than another companies x flex, so it’s not a hard fast rule that there will be a notable difference. A robot test shows there isn’t, it’s the golfers reaction to the shaft and head combo. Depending on how those work or don’t work for a golfer will determine their influence on the golfers swing and that will influence how the golfer delivers the club into ball which then influences launch, spin, etc. Feel free to read this thread https://forums.golfwrx.com/topic/1860305-shafts-when-to-change-and-when-to-tweak-lofts/ But that should be taken into consideration. The way the shaft and head feel can potentially have an impact on that due to the feel and cause the golfer to change their swing to achieve a result, it’s why fitters only have a golfer hit 3-5 shots with a combo because they start adjusting their swing to get a result after that point

  25. Yeah. And look at His bench. Be bad two guys right there that could go low tomorrow as well. In essence he’s got a pickem pool version of A power play. 6 vs 4. Bring it home Rick. That would name it a 2-2 for the Florida Boys kn the last 2 pools. although I’m only 4 points behind so maybe I shouldn’t be rooting for you

  26. I play a regular flex in my hybrid but I bought it that was for cheap and rarely use it. I did play an Oban Devotion 45 03 shaft tipped an inch in a driver last year for a while. I say if you can consistently square the face go for it. While I can’t say for everyone just myself, a softer flex closes the club face for me resulting in a higher launch/spin shot that moves right to left.

  27. ... Some may remember when Couples took a 3 wood from Watson's trunk and began just killing it on the course, stating it was the best 3 wood he ever hit until he found out it was an r-flex. Then he couldn't hit well and eventually re-shafted with an x-flex it but it never regained the magic when he was ignorant. So if Freddie can play a r-flex in a wood and you already know you are playing an r-flex, it seems like an excellent experiment to me!

Palm Trees are a PIA for maintenance. The trees people put in are too big to begin with and grow like crazy. There’s a couple more neighbors who are going to “downsize” their palms. The Trees that came out across street were a mess Too big and close to house. They were also planted on top of the home main water line, oops. That had to be replaced yesterday.

  33. I was developing a twitch. So I had to go play 18 in hopes it would be back up by the time I got home. I was wrong! Then a short nap. Still nothing. I went and mowed the back lawn. An hour later I was done and came back in and here I am. Withdrawals are gone and 1/3 of the mowing is done. You would think things were fully tested before going live. This isn't the first time this happened.

  36. Earlier this year I replaced the JumboMax grip on my driver with a Golf Pride CPX grip. It was an improvement over the JumboMax but after several weeks of golf with it, I felt it was just too soft. Today I replaced the CPX grip with an MCC +4 grip. I’ve long been a fan of the MCC+4 grips. Several weeks back I tried the grip selector on the Golf Pride website and it recommended the MCC +4. I guess they do know something about grips.

    How'd you play?

Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights yesterday; the complete dissolution of my game continues. After setting a personal best 88 here last week, I have followed up with three rounds of nonsense and a +19 55 yesterday. Suddenly everything is hooking left except my wedges which are extremely toe-y. Its all in my head, I know. We were supposed to play again today but got rained out which is almost a relief. Ah well...better times ahead, no?

My son finished up golf camp yesterday. He didn’t feel great after breakfast and had to pick him up early but he had a great week and actually received “the sportsmanship award”. When they gave it to him when I picked him up I thought it was just a standard thing for all the kids but it wasn’t. very proud of him because that’s the name of the game in my eyes. No matter how things go sportsmanship trumps all They went through some great things and came away from the week with some great knowledge and things to work on
