    How'd you play?

Weird round today. Parred the first 6 holes and the last 6 holes, but I guess I decided to nap the middle 6 holes where I was +7... 79. I don't get it.

    How'd you play?

Finished bogey double bogey to shoot 3 over 75. I think the heat just melted my brain. The toughest holes on my home track are 17 & 18, and I just came off the rails. 9/14 Firs 12/18 Girs 5/6 up and down 4 3 putts

  3. Fair to have your opinion. However couldn't be further from the truth. Unfortunately if you haven't taken the time to read the thread or look at the several testimonials from the years and years of testers I am really at a loss as to what to tell you or say. In the end the forum is a great place and getting involved can provide any member with so much information and value to those who choose to read it get engaged. If that's not you then okay, however given the wealth of information in this thread on how testers are chosen all your answers are there. Hopefully you are able to have a more positive view on the forum, but if your post is truly how you feel it will be awfully difficult to change your mind.

    How'd you play?

Shot a 78 yesterday with 3 double bogeys, I just don’t get it. Still happy to break 80, only the 5th time in 2022 in about 50 rounds, but mystified with 3 brain dead holes…no clue why.

    How'd you play?

Shot a 45/46:91 today. No birdies…..but very good up & downs today. Out of 43 players, we only had one birdie held and it paid $188! It went to a ne2 player that a most hit his drive 8n the water on the par 3 #7. Then, he chipped in for the bird! I am telling you, that will get you back again.

    Golf Ball Carving

Been screwing around with golf ball carving. Got a long way to go. Looking for comments. The insides are original. I believe the white center is a BOMB ball (might be wrong), the pink center is inside a Callaway Warbird with a yellow "V" ... don't know exactly cuz I traded it for more balls to cut up. And last one is an AVX I made for our Pro "Rocket" to put on his desk ... he provided the personalized ball.

  7. Hit the range today to work on a pre shot routine. I've never had a consistent one and want something to help with the jitters I've had over the ball the last year or so. It's always felt like I spend way too much time over the ball. Now it's two waggles feeling the face being square in the takeaway and three taps and go. Still need to work on the last part, cause sometimes it's four or five taps. It was another good day, I'm starting to get in a better groove with my irons, I think I only shanked three. Two with the 52 and once with the seven. It's getting there. I was making good contact just slightly toward the heel, but for three shots I was consistent. I still need work on fairway woods as I'm hanging back a little and topping them. It's a weight shift thing and I know it's got a lot to do with my left ankle being weak from surgeries and getting sore after being back at work after a week off. Driver was ok, I didn't hit a lot of shots with it because I was focused on irons and I tend to lose a lot of tees. At nearly $10 a pack, they're like gold. Overall, I'm feeling good about how my ball striking is trending.

    How'd you play?

Shot a great 74 yesterday. Took the 50 and 54 out of the bag and put the 52 in and didn’t miss a beat. Had two penalty strokes, off the tee. One from a pull hook and one from a bomb that landed in the idle of the fairway and bounces so hard because of the lack of rain and bounced through the fairway and into a hazard. Putting was special. Had 4 birdies but could have had more. Birdied the 10th and then here are the scores and putt distances I made on the next four holes: 11- 1 inch, Par 12- 1 foot, Par 13- 3 inches, Par 14- 8 inches, Par Had looks a birdie all day today an my putter was so good, but man it could have been a personal best day. Excited to get the ChipR in play

Was at a wedding last night and a friend and he reminded me his uncle builds clubs. Talked to his uncle while there and we set up a day this week to build my clubs and I’m excited to learn from someone who has been building clubs for years. I’ll have clubs ready for round this week and I’m excited to see how the new Sub70s work for me and the new nippon shafts work

    How'd you play?

I drove north yesterday to meet a few friends and played at Honey Brook for the first time. A nice layout in good shape in Lancaster county farm country and the pace of play was pretty good for a Sat morning. Instead of Amen Corner, they have Amish Corner - really that is what they call it! Not long at 6300 from the tips but 4 of the 5 the par 3's ranged from 190 to 230 and two par 5's were 560 plus so it didn't seem too short. Its mostly equal travel time for each of us and we will definitely play it again. The changes I have been working on with the putting are showing improvement. The old Anser is staying in the bag. I did adjust from cross handed on longer putts to conventional after about 7 holes as I could not get the feel for speed on those longer putts. Staring at my aim spot rather than the ball worked well for hitting my line all day.

  13. Thank you! It's starting to get there and I'm really happy to see the progress. 100% agree. I have been dwelling in a bad place over the ball and having that focus on the routine helps calm the mind. I saw you shot another 91, congratulations on that! Thanks for the advice Sam! I'll try that the next time I'm on the range, even if I have to drag a couple of mats together. With the heat we've been having it's usually not too crowded and I can probably get away with that. The grass part of the range has been non existent since the new owner has taken over.

  14. While Sam said it very well, I’ll be more blunt. Did you read the first post of this thread? I’m betting the answer is No and here is why 9 posts a year and No profile picture!!! Complete your profile with a picture and get engaged and you have a very high chance of getting chosen to test but keep doing what your doing and you are gonna be very upset and disappointed. The mods are very open about how testers are selected and had you took the time to read the first post you would know that. @Onesavant This guy gets it!! ☝☝☝☝

  15. No range time before a round for me. Stretching in the parking lot, maybe a few rolls on the practice green, and a few practice swings to get a feel on the first tee. There are definitely days that I wish I could send a few down range first.

  16. ... The MGS website and this MGS forum are basically two completely separate entities. And as a young 69 yr old, this forum is filled with golfers of all ages but certainly plenty of seniors and "completely ignore the senior golf playing population" could not be further from the truth. Plenty of seniors, including myself, have done testing with no interference from the OEM that in every case I have seen want honest reviews from real golfers so sham and scam is 100% baseless.

  17. I had a special round today. No bogies and two birdies for a 69. What made it really special were two things. The first is, I parred hole #2. Its just a bear of a hole. 200 yards to the dog leg. Then you are left with anywhere from 160 yards to 200 up a large hill playing 3 clubs longer. Its also guarded by two large bunkers and the green slopes from back to front. The second was, somehow I got between the guy mowing the greens and the guy rolling the greens. The guy mowing leaves the flag out for the guy rolling. So for 4 holes I had no flag to shoot for. I aimed for green center and hoped for the best. Of course not one flag was near the center. But I parred them all. This just shows that flag hunting isn't always the best choice when the flag is tucked in tight locations. My second putts were all less than a foot. Now for the dreaded yard work!

  18. Nope. We just go and play. Usually takes a couple of holes to get loose and find a swing. Could we score better if we stopped at the range first? Probably. Do I really care? No. That said... I used to warm up before a round, back when golf was way more important/serious to me than it is now. I was a much better player 10 years ago. Not so much these days. I don't really care... I just play because I love the game. Maybe I'll find the fire some day to get back to the player I was, but I doubt it...lol.

... I am always surprised by those that don't use native plants. There is obviously a reason nature chooses certain trees/plants/flowers for certain areas and just mind boggling when people move and want some of the plants from home.

Thanks to Titleist and HQ for supporting them this year with great prizes!

  26. I wish your poll had more options. I love to hit a few before a round if I have time, but I’m not doing any 40 min warmup like I’m on the Tour. (Which Tour? You pick…) I like to hit maybe 10 wedges, six or so eight irons and 2-3 Drivers. If I can’t figure it out after that, find the beverage cart. I typically spend more time chipping and putting. I’m going to miss greens for sure. Short game is where the money is made. Ask Cam Smith.

  27. I almost always get to the course a half-hour before tee time, and warm up on the range. I'm not really working on anything specific, just trying to get the joints and muscles adjusted to motion. It helps that I'm at a club with unlimited range balls, I can hit as many or as few as I like.
    4 points
  28. I have a very consistent 35-40 minute warmup routine: Lag putting: ladder drill 20/30/40/50 feet for distance control Short putting: ladder drill from 2/4/6 feet, sometimes add gate drill if I've been fighting that range Chipping and pitching with 50 / 54/ 58 wedges Wedges on the range until contact is crisp and consistent (usually 20-30 balls) A few irons (odds or evens) - usually 10-15 balls A few hybrid / fairway wood shots - usually 10-15 balls 3w & driver off of tees until I feel good about today's shot shape and contact (usually 10-15 balls) Last swing is a great shot with the club I will hit from the first tee So, I probably spend 15-20 minutes at the short game area, and then hit around 50 balls on the range. I usually feel nice and warm, and positive about my contact going to the first tee.

Another pretty good round for me today. I can definitely get use to this!! 44/47 for another 91. Putting hurt me today with 1 three putt and 36 total putts. Wasn’t getting into too much trouble off the tee and short irons were playing really well for the most part. Doubles on 17 & 18 were frustrating but that’s golf.

  31. I would prefer to hit a few balls but usually due to time constraints I go right to the first tee or roll a few putts if I do have time.
    4 points
  32. I use the cart as an aid to do some back and hip stretching before I swing so that the body is loose for my swings. Pre round range time for me is used to get as swing warmup and to see what my ball flight is for the day. Am I having a tendency to hook, pull, fade, block shots. Practice green is to get a feel for what the course will be like. Not always 100% match but I have an idea before I get to the first tee then adjust along the way to the green speeds

  33. You never know some driver and even ball combinations work well for someone---- I am pretty impressed with the Maxfli Tours myself. I have found and played a couple. The only reason I do not pull the trigger on them is because I have so many various Srixon balls I have won.

    The 150th Open Championship

Great Championship Sunday!! Cam Smith earned every bit of it!

  41. Cam Smith unbelievable! Rory had so many great putts that just didn’t fall. Zinger just reported that Cam had 9 fewer putts than Rory this Open, and only 12 putts on the back nine today, so Rory was better tee to green but it wasn’t enough…

  42. Well this is clearly a very long overdue update. Over the last 3 years basically everything has change but 1 1/2 clubs lol. The big stick is where the 1/2 club comes in. I had found my way back to the ST190 driver head not too long ago and planned to stick to it but recently purchased a 9* MySim2 head in all black that is now the gamer. Shaft is currently the Graphite Design Tour AD-XC 5S playing just a tick over 44.75” and in the -2* loft/4* open setting. Not completely sold on the shaft with the head. It was great with the st190 but seems like I need to work harder to make it kick with it in the Sim2. I believe that may have to do with cg placement differences. The fairways woods are not going anywhere until they break. I have had the Srixon F85 5 wood in the bag since the previous post and added the 3 wood this year. The 3 wood has an XPhlexxx Agera X stiff shaft. These are the most consistent fairway woods I have every played. Hybrid is in the pic of the bag but rarely used and usually left in the cart shed. Irons are another new addition this year. 2019 Taylormade P790 4-PW. These are shafted with Project X I/O 6.0. I have reminder strips in the grips of these and while I wasn’t sure about them to begin with, I’m starting to like them more and more. Wedge is a club that is a change from the last post but not this year. I got this last year and immediately liked it. A Cleveland Zipcore Full Face 50* wedge. The putter is my baby. I finally found my holy grail putter after years of searching. A SIK Jo slant neck 365g. I need to measure this again as I’ve added and subtracting length when I first got it but I believe it is 33.5”. As for accessories I’ve added a custom divot tool and ball marker from the wife(forgot to take pics) and the Voice Caddie SL2 rangefinder/gps unit I tested for MGS last year. Also added a skillz trainer/warm up stick. This last pic is to mess with those guys that care what other guys do with their bag. Iron headcovers for the win

  43. Usually don’t get to warm up as I am registering the players for the game. When I get the time, I start with a wedge, then 7-9 iron, then fairway followed by a few driver shots. When finished I go to the practice green for a few rolls.

    How'd you play?

Feast or famine on the course today....shot 11 over with 5 double bogeys (1 birdie, 2 bogey, 10 pars). 2 of the doubles involved a penalty (Put on in the water on #4 and shanked a 9 iron OB on #10). The other 3 doubles were just mental errors (one where I rushed a shot because my playing partners were slow as molasses and the other 2 were just due to my inept ability to screw up short pitches).

  49. Made a purchase I put off since last year when I got fitted for it. Bought Callaway Epic LS driver with a MMT 60 shaft in it. It’s not the shaft I was fitted for but it is very close so I pulled the trigger on it because of a sale. I’m interested in seeing how it works out since I haven’t carried a driver in 3 years. Also grabbed some Maxfli tours since everyone here has been having good luck with them.
