  1. Put my irons together today. Purchased the pre-measured lengths for my irons and noticed that they are longer than my old irons by half inch or so. Going to see how this works out for me, guess I should have checked the lengths but they were supposed to be cut for the length of the irons they were meant to fit. My driver came into was supposed to be used but is wrapped in plastic and brand new SCORE!

  2. Well..... I did it. I hate eBay! I probably can't hit it, but I thought it would be fun to have it around to play with. Might need a lesson from Jack. A MacGregor MT Tourney Custom 1-iron; belonged to Lionel Hebert, a 5 time PGA Tour champion and winner of the 1957 PGA Championship. How could I pass this up??

  3. Man, with all these opinions about right and wrong I wish you guys were around in the mid to late 90's during the Monday Night Wrestling wars. Old guard WWF vs. new upstart WCW. So many guys jumping ship back and forth between the promotions, audacious claims and money being spent, and one of them flaming out spectacularly as part of a merger and a shift in corporate ethos, and crazy internal creative decisions. It is true, everything is just pro wrestling.

  4. There are some very key points within the OWGR and how it works which should be addressed. There are upwards of 15 different qualifications that any tour needs to meet in order to gain OWGR points. There are some grey areas LIV can take advantage of and yes PGA Tour China got an excemption early, however if you look at the name PGA TOUR should be highlighted as it was essentially an branch off the PGA Tour not it's own individual tour entirely. Keep in mind many man other tours have been forced to have and meet these standards in order to gain OWGR, handing LIV a free pass would actually be more anticompetitive and unfair to all the leagues that went through and spent the money before to meet these criteria. So lets get into this 1. A tour must operate at least 10 events a year - Check 2. Those must have a min purse of $50,00 - Check 3. An average field size of 75 - Not there yet, but talk of them expanding larger events internationally to 144 which would help offset this and provided they expand enough they can get the average to 75, but the format must change. 4. Events must be at minimum 54 holes (Check) but with a cut after 36 holes (no check). Again yes there are some exceptions to this rule, however it took any tournament that doesn't reach this criteria years to gain the allowance of OWGR points. 5. OWGR requires that a tour provide a pathway for its player onto the full-member tour. In order for this to work for them they must work directly with the Asian Tour by guaranteeing cards for top X amount of finishers. So again partial check. 6. OWGR Requires a tour hold a qualifying school before the start of the season or a qualifying process into each event... yeah no, don't meet this one. **note LIV has a plan for this, but it will take 1-2 full seasons to implement** 7. OWGR Requires that a tour be in operation for at least one full season meeting all the above requirements. (no check and this is where LIV argues about PGA China) I'm not going to say it is a slam dunk any way or another. There is a ton of grey area and in the end it will be the Majors that decide whether LIV gets OWGR points, however with all the big names exempt for the next couple seasons anyway (again urge anyone to listen to the NLU podcast where DJ dives into this big) why should by pass making LIV meet all of this? **There is a OWGR board who votes on all of this made up of 7 I believe and all the Majors have their own vote** Now while this is all going on and we/anyone truly doesn't know how long it will take to get reviewed (the official application was only submitted July 6th) with the new OWGR changes as I previously elluded to takes into account the whole field. Meaning Mexico this year would have been awful because it was Rahm and nobody else really. Whereas this year because Rahm was in it he boosted them big time. There needs to be an even balance of high ranked players in order to truly get a better strength of field. Meanwhile now that Major season is over all the LIV guys will not be gaining points. Loosing spots, dropping down the rankings and for reference it takes roughly 30 weeks total to drop out of the top 100. So say even if this all settles and the fog lifts from this mess in say 8 months in time for the Masters and start of next years Major season most if not all these guys are going to be outside the top 100 and given that they will have no way outside of pulling in new guys of getting a strength of field to boost their events and rankings for winning them. So how do guys that are now outside of the top 100 now get more points to boos their standings and therefore strength of field? Well they have to play well at the Majors for one and likely have to play more Asian Tour events... which if we remember for many of them said they wanted to go to have more time off. However with 14 events scheduled next season 4 majors and now Asian tour events to try and keep their OWGR ranking they will be playing way more then they would have had they stayed. This is a long post, but seriously there is a long road ahead it won't be pretty and there is going to be a lot of nonsense moving forward however there are regulations that many many other tours have had to put in place like the DP World Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour, PGA Tour of Australia and Asian Tour which have been made to follow all of the points above and more before getting access to OWGR. LIV should be no different, doesn't matter who went over, bending or ignoring all the regulations which others have been made to follow could open up cases for other tours to sue and so much more.

  6. I want to do this without getting into politics. At this time, Mr. Trump is essentially a salesman, pumping up the two events to be held at his properties. Much like Greg Norman, he also has a personal axe to grind with the PGA Tour. So I give his comments the same weight as I do to most other salesmen, very little. To the moderators, if I've crossed the line, I will understand if this post gets removed. I think that its fair to discuss this, given the fact that Mr. Trump is involved with golf and the LIV Tour based on his ownership of two of the properties the LIV Tour plans to play. I hope we can allow this, without going over the edge into politics. I know its a slippery spot, but if any group of people on the internet can maintain that balance, I think MGS people can.

This is really nice - phase 3 of our remodel. We went out of town for ten days and managed to have our contractor demo the master bath and bedroom wall while we were gone. So we missed that. Very thankful there. Phase one for us was dry wall, rewire, repaint and move in to spare bedroom to get ready for this phase. We have and will save some money because my son is an electrician - thank you US Navy. He’s also required the master bath - waiting now for fixtures come in. After this is done they will be enlarging the entry to Penny’s room. Phase 3 will be the backyard pad for grilling and also so that Penn can get outside in her wheelchair easily. That will be in the fall, Lord willing. A 10k car repair fiasco has set that part back a bit.

    Got Problems?

My son and daughter are expecting their second. Found out she has Spina Binfida, and had to go for surgery. They actually do a C-section, cut into the uterus and operate on the baby. They were able to clos the opening on the spine and get mom and baby put all back together. That was back in the beginning of June. The cerebellum has almost returned to the proper shape of a bowtie, and she has gained almost 2 lbs. Incredible what doctors can do today. They will have to go back to the Cleveland Clinic at 32weeks and she will have to stay there till they take our grandaughter by C-Section ( a second time). There may be some issues that my need further surgeries but everyone is optimistic. This is kinda got problem and kinda not post.

First time building clubs was cool learned a lot. Definitely learned to make sure things are the length they should be brought my clubs home to find them being longer than my current clubs. Looking forward to seeing how they perform compared to my old clubs. Just going to rock them and not carry any of my old clubs tomorrow for my next round.

    How'd you play?

Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights today. The first couple greens were in the shade and super wet from morning dew, then the rest played fast as they'd dried in the sun. I'm back to not really lining up my putts so putting wasn't the best. (No reason either, I'm just...not) My driver mostly came back after a few ugly rounds but I'm still hooking my irons. I'm flat out pulling my wedges to the left but it's an upgrade over the toe-y shanks recently. Owen decided to try driver off the deck on a hole and absolutely piped it. My shot of the day was a recovery out of the trees with my hybrid, a 205 yard worm burner that drew back and settled at the back of the green. Owen didn't play great, and I was just plain bad. He was +9 45 and I was +17 53.

    How'd you play?

Amazing how quickly the summer flies by up here in Michigan. A few golf highlights to not bore you with all my round updates First off, I am still in the year long club championship at my course. I shot my handicap both times I went out and won my matches on the last few holes each time. A few more wins and I will be diving head first Scrooge McDuck style into some shop credit. The second highlight was our annual guy's golf trip where I didn't lose money and we had the fortune of playing two of the courses at Forest Dunes. If you live in Michigan, book a time, and if you don't live in Michigan, it is worth the trip. They have great on course facilities and the courses are a great test. The original Forest Dunes course has a lot of solid golf holes through woods, sand, and water and other than breaking my driver mid round it was a great time even though I shot an 87. The next day we played The Loop - Black. For those unfamiliar, this course plays clockwise around the property one day (Black) and counter clockwise the next (Red) using the same greens for both routings. It reminded me a lot of Bandon Dunes with similar grass and wide open fairways but plenty of trouble and creativity required the closer you get to the greens. We were also blessed with a rare 60 degree, 30mph wind day in late June so we got the true links experience. I shot 82 with a few big holes thanks to some interesting lies in the various sand structures but was more than pleased with the result. They also built a short course called The Bootlegger. For $49 per day you can play it as much as you like and the holes range from 70-129 yards. The 12 of us played this a LOT as one group! I am happy to report I netted $90 to the positive with our various closest to the pin contests and I played barefoot most of the time to really soak in the relaxation. My handicap has dropped but my game is still a work in progress from my weight loss and the flat stick still is my weak point but improving. Aim and speed are getting there but I still don't make enough 10-15 foot putts to really drop my scores. Here's to keeping it in the short grass!

  15. Always choose the Mizuno set. If you haven't tested one, go back and hit them until you like them enough to choose them. I would go with Brand Y based on your data. Lower launch with higher spin, and much more consistent spin is better in an Iron in my opinion.

Did something different tonight. The local store had boneless beef short ribs so I had to grab them. Grilled them to 145* then finished them in a sauce to glaze them to 170*. They were good but not fall apart like I would like them to be. They were absolutely delicious though. Did that with a little rice and poured the sauce over it and I was very happy with it. Definitely going to make a burrito with the left overs

  17. After a bit of a hiatus, I started playing golf again this past May. Playing in a league and at least I'm 3rd from the bottom. Not playing golf last year really put a ding in my stroke play this year. Last Thursday was the first time I felt good striking all my clubs but the ones that will kill your game. My wedge play was a disaster, and has been. That will be something I really concentrate on in the offseason. I had a solid drive on hole 7, then a so so long iron into the green, only when I got there it was short left, in the tall stuff. walked away with a 6. truly sad.

Played today, and the wrist is ok still, after the game. Yay! got a new to me Callaway epic max 5 wood, as I’ve been looking for a 200 yd club. And after today, the search is over. I shot a 36/38 and that 5 wood was a major part of the game today. It’s a reg flex haz smoke shaft. From the very first swing on #3 198 par 3, that is the first pic, to a 188 uphill on #1 hdcp hole (second pic), this club was outstanding… it very satisfying to get a new club and have it do exactly what you want is priceless…

  27. I dunno, I think if LIV keeps drawing big names, okay not top players, that people enjoy watching golf their ball PGA may be forced into some type of agreement. I could see Jay Monihan riding off into the sunset and a new kindler, gentler PGA commish who comes in to make peace. With the list of potential defectors I saw today the Ryder Cup may be one match- Rory vs. JT.

  28. This is very much on the line, just careful treading here. However there is zero news, discussion or evidence to support any sort of merger. There is no benefit for the PGA Tour, GN wants to burn the PGA Tour to the ground and ruin them so extremely difficult to see him even thinking of working with them and not to mention said person quoted above benefits from LIV as he is hosting them, so why should anything being quoted by him be taken as the what will for sure happen. Again fine Line here so let's just not go past it, but so many holes to poke into those statements.

  34. It seems other leagues have been able to work out agreements with competing leagues to the benefit of both over the long term. The PGA tour may need to come up with a different business model than they are used to but I believe it could be done if they wanted. The strategy is probably to try to squash the competing league and when it proves it won't go away then negotiate. It seems to me the PGA Tour now knows knows how the Euro Tour has probably felt in the past. Regarding the money, The PGA Tour could increase their payouts if they wanted. Does anyone know how much bank this non-profit currently has? The number I have seen is north of $700M but I am not sure how accurate that is. If accurate that is quite a pot of $$ that has not been paid out to members or employees. I think the sponsors will come back to the LIV players over time. I would bet at least 90% of those companies do business in SA already but since it is not splashed on a TV screen for people to see it is a non-issue.

  37. Not sure if this has already been mentioned in here, but I think the PGA Tour have made a bit of a mistake. Let me start off by saying I am not really interested in Watching LIV as it stands, but I can only see it becoming bigger and bigger. The PGA Tour should have sat down with LIV a while ago and worked out a schedule that works for both, set 8 weeks aside over the course of the year and these are LIV events, LIV set the prize money, format etc. LIV then get access to more of the best golfer in the world and the PGA tour isn't competing against it. I do not buy into this rubbish about that people should boycott LIV because of the Saudi links. Countries with poor human rights records are involved in all different sports and businesses. PGA Tour sponsors will have links, PGA Tour events will have links.

    79 or 80?

@cnosil & @DaveP043, thanks for the clarification. I'll certainly know what to do next time. Like I said, I'm good with claiming the 79, but thought it'd be a good question to posit here. So, in addition to that I'll ask this: My 3rd putt was inside 3' and I took a casual swipe at it but lipped out the left side. Normally, that would be a gimme with most people I've played with. In fact, it's possible the ball would have been scooped up and tossed to me. Would it be more acceptable to have simply said that stroke didn't really count since I didn't fully address it and likely would have been given by a playing partner? Just a fun thought exercise is all. I'll also note, that if this were my first time to ever break 80 I would be placing a serious asterisk next to that 79 or just call it an 80 as well. I've reached a point where my potential is somewhere in the mid-to high 70's & low 80's with regularity. I've even had people suggest as much when playing with me or watching me at the range. I just suck at scoring... Usually, poor decision making; especially when my swing is off and then I just start racking up penalties.

Missed the birdie of course. next hole par 5, hit the new 5 wood perfectly next hole long par 4, second shot 188 up hill. Landed on the green, with 20 foot birdie putt that I missed. anyways, the point was the new 5 wood is sweet

    Gripping the club

I actually setup with my trail hand first with club face on target line. If you look at any pro regardless of swing style (single or two plane) on plane impact occurs when the shaft is in line with the trail arm at least up to the elbow. I’m a single plane swinger so that’s where I want to feel like I’m setup on my impact plane shaft in line with trail forearm. If I were to setup with lead hand first I feel like (1) it’s easy for me to come in too underneath with my trail hand which can lead to a tendency of over rotation of the trail hand and over closing the club face at impact. And (2), with lead hand first I get the feeling it opens my shoulders too much since you’re technically reaching further down the club with your trail hand. Who knows, maybe that’s why I’m still at at 16hdcp (even though I have improved a few strokes this year). Just have to find what is comfortable at setup for a consistent swing and do it the same way every time. Start overthinking it and trying to tweak with setup as you play leads to catastrophe.

Yeah, the General Area is everything that isn't one of the four specific areas: Teeing Area (your tee on the hole you are playing), Penalty Area, Bunker, and Putting Green. Anyone who wants more information can refer to Rule 2. Edit to add, this used to be called "Through the Green".

  47. I definitely agree, but I am noticing that the club that was my 130 club isn't my 130 club anymore. My ball striking has improved from my lessons and I am getting a tad more distance out of my clubs. The courses I play put me in that distance a few times a round.
