    How'd you play?

Brought COVID back from my vacation, and while I'm feeling better I definitely have tried to push it too far twice now. Before I got sick, I shot a 79 (two Sundays ago now) and then somehow pulled off a 78 the morning I started to feel "off." Was wiped out for about five days and tried to play 18 Sunday but quit after about 12 holes because I was exhausted. Waited all week to recover some more and tried 18 again this morning. I made it through about 11 or 12 holes before just hitting a wall and calling it quits. Played OK for the first nine holes both times, shooting 40 and 39. My putting was horrendous today, which was unfortunate because my driver didn't cost me a single stroke. First drive of the day was piped 298 yards dead straight. Hopefully this fatigue goes away quickly as I'm running out of season!

While on my way down to AZ last week, I noticed the mileage on the Expedition was approaching an ominous number. What are the odds this happened as I passed through Las Vegas? Full disclosure; I set the speed to match... breaking the law by 1 mph .

Biggest gamechanger for me with the wedges has been the grind. There's a lot of forgiveness baked into the Edel V grind that I didn't have with my Cobra MIMs. The leading edge relief and the trailing bounce really work well for my swing, especially off of the mushy and wet bluegrass fairways I spend most of my time on. The moveable weight is a nice touch also, especially in the toe where it really excels around the greens. I can hit a nice high and soft pitch now that really wasn't part of my game before. My short game touch has left me over the past two weeks or so, but overall I'm pretty comfortable around the greens now. I do miss the black finish of the MIMs, which was much nicer in the harsh morning light. But the Edels have definitely secured their spot in my bag.

  6. Crazy day for playing Maumee State Park( located just east of Toledo), a Links course on Lake Erie. Winds were gusting to 30mph, temps were 90 +, humidity was shirt drenching AND the groups ahead of us were very slow. By the time our 4some got to #18 we were past 4 1/2 hours and hitting INTO this gusting wind. Ended up topping my drive, quick recovery by my 5 wood and a nice putt to boot. That hole was worth a $3.00 skin .

  10. I put it in the mix with my 223 fitting and it did not last long. The numbers were nearly the same for me 7 iron vs 7 iron which was a surprise. Slightly less spin on the 225 and slightly longer but the amusing part was two things for me. 1) The peak trajectory was within 3 feet between the two (223 was slightly higher) 2) The feel on the 225 was not even close to the 223. Side by side, I saw no significant difference or reason to consider the 225 as a forgiving alternative to long irons. 6 months later I am still pleased with my decision; the 223 long irons are easy to hit and feel fantastic.

42 yesterday in a league sub night... with triple on the last. Devastating finish from just too much heat and sweat. Honestly thought on the last tee shot my 5 iron was going to come out of my hand. Back at it tonight, then a weekend away from golf, which will be nice.

  15. From the other day, while I did almost dunk one, this was the best shot of the day: While it was a double (atrocious putting and greenside work on my part) the 2nd shot after a poor tee shot was a highlight for me because I did exactly what I wanted to do. Had to hit a low right to left ball because I was under a tree and was completely blocked from a straight low stinger. Nailed the shot, 200 yard draw that just barely hopped off the green. What a hole it would have been if I made the chip/down.

  16. I probably missed a post somewhere but what are the irons? I just put some fresh new black Pure's on my irons last week! Forgot how much I loved these grips! I bought a set of 13 brand spanky grips for $30 from a guy. Found them on OfferUp. Not sure if it was a "fell off the truck" special or what but when they're selling for $9-11/ea I don't ask questions.. The grips are so stretchy that I was able to make a putter grip out of one. I built it up to a straight no taper putter size using aluminum duct tape (x2 the weight of masking tape) and to equal the size and weight of the Edel 85g grip that the putter was built with. So far my favorite putter grip ever!

Shot 97 today not my best nor my worst. Putting was a struggle at the beginning of the round had way too many 3 putts. Hit the new driver so so, some great some not so great. Overall it wasn’t a bad round for having new irons and a driver in the bag which I haven’t had for years. I think with a little more tweaking I can get the driver dialed in better

  24. ... I just went through something very similar with my '22 Forged Tecs and MIM's. I played my last round with even irons FT and odd irons MIM and the difference during an actual round was pretty obvious. To be fair I think the i95's in the MIMs also feel better than the i80's in the FT's but the MIM 4 iron is one of my favorite clubs and I just didn't find much difference in forgiveness compared to the FT. I have also been playing MIM's for 1.5 years with a good 350 rounds using them so there is a familiarity and comfort and the FT's always had a steep hill to climb. All that said, I could put the FT's in the bag and be very content if I didn't think the MIMs are the best irons I have ever played. I am guessing you have a similar affinity for the 223's that just look stunning at address.

I've got to say that I got pretty lucky with my wife. She got zero cooking skills from her mom, whose signature dish while we were dating was chicken chunks and Mac and cheese. My wife can flat or cook and being a southern boy whose mom could cook up a storm, I'm kind of spoiled to good food.

  27. Funny @Jmikecpa should mention guns at a golf outing. @Golfspy_CG2and I used to play in a tourney on the eastern shore that had one hole sponsored by a cigar shop, another hole sponsored by a liquor store (that did shots of tequila or vodka (can't remember which)) and one hole sponsored by the local gun club. The one sponsored by the gun club would have skeet setup on a par 3 over the water. People would tee off on a platform to hit the par 3 and you would shoot skeet in between approach shots. chips and putts. So your team would have 8 tries to knock down 8 sporting clays. If you hit 4/8 as a team you would get a stroke off your score. Good thing they spaced out the liquor store sponsored hole and the gun club hole. For the record, yes I did start on the liquor store hole one year and did a shot at 9AM in the morning and yes, I hit all the sporting clays, for the most part, LOL. MDGolfHacker

Well if that was the case I would have been dead long ago.. We used to get them from the field wash them off throw them in a cooler and iced them down sliced them with a pocket knife and add a little salt. In fact Sunday after Church I stopped by the little produce stand and got a couple. Cleaned them up put in a container of water in the fridge ate one just before bedtime. But yes we also eat them sliced soaked in vinegar and black pepper. In fact that was the fate of my second one my wife sliced it up put in the fridge in vinegar and black pepper those were right about lunch time Monday

A bunch of us did something like that screwing with the SC Transport Police. Now I will note most of those guys are ok. We had a couple of little firecracker newbies in the area. We set the cruise on 54 in a 55 zone. They started pulling us and writing up little BS stuff. Their logic was if someone was running under the speed limit they were hiding violations. Those 2 cats wrote up like 100 tickets for BS in like 4 days. My boss was one of the companies that took all to court. When the judge heard one of them make that statement he threw every ticket out. When the district commander heard about it he seperated and moved those guys to different districts. My boss and several companies threatend to file harassment in the future if those guys pulled us. In fact the Sargent in our area thanked us for getting rid of those 2 because as he put it both of them were a royal PITA for him. All of us told him in so many words if he had any future problems to let us know. Now we did get pulled sometimes for inspection but they knew our company kept the trucks up. One of them pulled me one day and asked if I was in a hurry? I told him naah we got paid by the hour. He said no problem that he had one more inspection to do for the day and he knew we were easy with no violations. Sat in the car with him drinking Pepsi while he did the paper work. Next week I got pulled by a different one. He ran my license etc came back to the truck and said have a nice day "Schmitt I see you were inspected 2 days ago and were ok I can not justify another inspection have a nice day and I will catch you again. Around here it was a game with the regular drivers and officers.

I had to get smarter as well. I used to do cherry tomatoes but I'm the only person I know who eats them. Felt awful wasting so many - I can eat a pound or two over a few days but that's enough. Last year I think I pulled about 25 pounds of cherry tomatoes out of the garden. Overkill, obviously. I also used to do cabbage and Brussels sprouts, but last year's cabbage went almost completely to waste (something like 11 heads). I just don't know anyone else who eats them! Green beans are a staple and even we struggle to keep up with those. I think I've pulled 10 pounds out over the last four days. I should can or freeze, but that's even more time commitment that I just don't have...

  37. As I have previously mentioned, I recently dropped Arccos and switched to Shot Scope. I have four rounds in with my new V3, and I have absolutely no regrets. It has functioned flawlessly. It has detected every shot and uploaded flawlessly. I am starting to analyze my data, and am learning what exactly I need to work on next. I am very happy that there is no annual subscription cost too. One thing I do miss from Arccos is the GPS on my phone, but that is a small price to pay for the benefit I receive. I can recommend Shot Scope without reservation.

  39. Put my irons together today. Purchased the pre-measured lengths for my irons and noticed that they are longer than my old irons by half inch or so. Going to see how this works out for me, guess I should have checked the lengths but they were supposed to be cut for the length of the irons they were meant to fit. My driver came into was supposed to be used but is wrapped in plastic and brand new SCORE!

    How'd you play?

Had a decent front nine, felt like I was striking the ball well but was getting lots of bad bounces and kicks. Still managed a 41. But my round fell off the rails on the back nine, started missing my lines and was still getting bad bounces and went on a run of bogeys and doubles. Somehow though on the last few holes my driver started straightening out a bit from my usual cut, so I decided to take a very aggressive line on the last hole. Started directly over the houses on the left of the hole, with a baby fade to cut the corner. Normally I play this hole safe with an iron into the fairway, since a short drive is in the first pond, and too much fade finds the second pond, but I hit a near-perfect drive and managed to birdie the hole for the first time ever. Ended up with an 85, which is right on my course handicap. If I had managed to avoid my 6-hole blowup on the back nine (I was +9 on holes 11-16) I feel like breaking 80 was in the cards. Alas, it will have to wait until another day!

  42. Being a most wanted tester can be bad; lots of equipment to test and ponder. I spent a little more time with the Ping ChipR yesterday and I am now intrigued. People say just use X iron, but it seems like the weighting and upright lie angle just make this club better for chipping and finesse wedge shots than a normal iron. It simply isn’t as limited as I originally made a chipper out to be and it may ultimately be better for me than having a high lofted wedge in the bag. I’ll tie this to my Shot Scope review; with limited data, I am losing a lot of strokes in the <50 yard range so maybe shotscope is telling me I need this club. I’m guessing this will be a club that is turned over quite a bit so I may wait for some to show up on the used market

  43. Agreed. I tried moving the ball way forward in my stance last year to hit more up on the ball. All it did was exacerbate my slice because of the where I was hitting the ball in my swing arc. I ended up moving the ball back to original position, and working on my swing consistency and path. Wasn't until I worked out a lot of other flaws in my swing, that I saw an improvement this year from moving the ball a tiny bit forward to hit up on it more. Shallowing out my path was much much more beneficial and made a much bigger impact on my launch conditions.

While we were in WA, we had gardens most every year... getting smarter and smarter about what to plant, when, and (most importantly) coordinating with neighbors so we weren't all trying to offload zuke's, cuke's, tomato's, etc. I tried the baby corn one year. I had no idea the stalk grew to darn near the size of normal corn and the yield was maybe 10... one and done. My favorites were cucumber and baby tomatoes. Lot's of yield and I took a Tupperware full of them in my lunch bucket, slathered in Italian dressing, salt and pepper .

  47. I play my Halo Launcher XL irons 2* strong. After having a lot of fun hitting the 5-DW, I took things what looks to be a step too far by ordering a 4 iron at 18*. When I catch it, I get low screamers that run out to about 175 or so, but in that spot in my bag I’m looking for something with more reliable carry and an easy high launch. So today I ordered a Cleveland 4 hybrid. The 4 iron is going to be put out to pasture when it arrives. I went with the same Cypher shaft in my irons instead of the stock shaft they offer. It just didn’t make sense to go from 40g in the Hy-wood to over 60g in a 4H, then back down to 59g in my irons. This is me taking a leap of faith with Cleveland, and how well this current series they have is working for me. I’ve never hit a Cleveland hybrid, and to be honest, I’ve never seen one in anyone else’s bag either.
