  1. When you’re at a wedding at a private course you have not played and you can see 3 holes from the hall (guessing 1/10/18) and you are game planning how you would play said holes….and your wife comes up to you while your standing there asking if you are doing just that….. in all transparency guessing this beautiful par 3 was 170. I told her a nice smooth 7 iron….she rolled her eyes

Just got back from a weeks vacation with the Family to Chelan, WA. Was unable to get away to go hang out with other Spy's but did get in 2 rounds.. Played Bear Mountain Ranch in Chelan on Monday the 18th. Played a good front 9 with a few missed opportunities. Hit Sand traps on all but 4 holes. Was very disappointed, $100 for a Monday morning round course was in good shape not great shape, and most of the traps had Very little sand ( less than 1/2 inch ) and the sand looked like it had not been maintained ( compact, with water trails running through it).. Shot a 48/56 back nine ate me up. then on Wed the 20th we played Chelan Municipal course, This course was in better shape (IMO) and was $59 + cart for $16. Struggled all round but did not give a darn, on vacation LOL.. the course had a tournament coming the next weekend so hole location were Brutal. 1st hole stuck it 2 ft past and 6 ft left of the hole Hit a good putt missed it by 1/2" and rolled off the front of the green 2nd putt was 6" short coming back up and again rolled off.. Every pin was on the edge or right by a drop off.. did not keep score, Son did so i did not know where i stood, ended up carding a 102.. but played with Son and Grandson.. it was fantastic.. the diabolical 12 at chelan, was pretty decent.. green was wet so Putts at least stayed on the green.. Had an amazing week now back to reality..

  5. Our excursion is complete. Made it to the crows nest. (That’s what I’m calling my house) it’s on a steep hillside, hopefully I don’t end up like that house on TV in Yellowstone… It was a heck of a 30 day stretch. Was sick for about 8 of the days. Ill be working on finishing up my B.2 review, planning on getting it posted tomorrow night, but waiting for my internet to be hooked up.

Got to play the beautiful Farmlinks at Pursell Farms Saturday. Poured down rain for 30 minutes right before our tee time so it was cart path only. Hit my irons somewhat better than yesterday and putter much better. Driver was slightly worse, but shot a respectable 85, especially since there was zero roll out and we played it at 6950 yards. Had 1 birdie, on the hardest par 3 believe it or not. If you ever get a chance to get out to Farmlinks, do it. Beautiful course and extremely pure greens. Great staff as well.

  7. Experience. Every player has different shot trajectories, so an elevation change affects players differently. Make a guess, and the learn from the results. Its not an exact science.

Family came over to grill at our new house today (even with boxes everywhere!) grilled up some filets for everyone. Yes @Lacassem, I grilled them. Now it’s time to relax with the kiddos and watch a movie on the new TV.

  9. ... Soap Box Warning! What really pi$$es me off is the tobacco industry pays a fortune for actors to smoke in films. Is a teenager going to be more influenced by a TV/Print AD or a cool character smoking in a film? For transparency I have never taken a single puff in my life and when I was 10 my Mom started smoking. I refused to talk to her and after a week she quit but was pretty mad at me. She is in her mid 90's and just yesterday she thanked me again for stopping her before she could get started.

  10. So just to let everyone know, the planned revolution was not televised and instead it was a secret coup to overthrow @Golfspy_CG2 by myself and @MDGolfHacker to be co-runners on site of this event. Seriously though, big ups to Rob for really handling the moving parts and a speedy recovery to see you at the "hopeful" next one. Let's lay the land here, most of us are staying on site in one cottage, arriving on Friday afternoon/evening. Going to at least my first time meeting Spies in the wild, so that'll be fun. We've got two rounds scheduled, one on each course at Queenstown, going out in groups and maybe getting some games going. Bring those wads of cash boys, because I'm sure they'll be there for the taking. Also, myself, @Getoffmylawn, @cnosil, and @Shapotomous will be doing a wedge fitting and @tommc23 will be taking on an iron fitting with the local Titleist fitting professional as organized by Rob. For those of you looking for content, never fear @McGolf is bringing both a drone and his camera to catch some stuff and play, so I'm sure he'll be popping in from time to time to share with y'all some of what's going down. Lastly, just to keep everyone on their toes, we might have a couple surprises up our sleeves... so stay tuned.

  11. If true, that is truly a shame. I had Edge irons back in the early 2000s and I now have PTxPros and Equalizer II wedges. If they have some massive sale I might buy the icons as well... I guess this means I will have to switch my DTC allegiance over to Sub 70 (which is also a great company).

Finished up my “bachelor weekend” today with a decent 83 at Timberline. Hit my irons much better but left a lot on the bone with some bad reads on 4-5 putts off the fringe. Did not drive it well at all, as I only hit 4 fairways and had 3 penalties. Overall a good day to still “salvage” an 83 and the course was fairly empty too so we finished in 3 hours. Back to real life tomorrow!

  16. Someday I might get a lazer with slope. But I have just guessed based on experience. My course has a lot of elevation changes so I just got used to estimating how many clubs more or less to use to compensate for the elevation change. After a while you get pretty comfortable making a judgement. The other thing to consider is you have to know your average distances with each club. Even if you have a lazer with slope it won't do you any good if you can't hit a club to that distance. I see that all the time. As an example a guy says he hits his 9 iron 145 yards. He has 145 to the flag and he makes good contact and puts it 130 yards into the front trap. No need for exaggeration, who cares if it takes you a 9 iron or a 7 iron. Getting on the green is all that matters.

  17. Those of you who haven't checked in on the regional thread that consists of Maryland/DE/PA/VA/NJ/NY and others may not be aware there is a 2 day regional stay and play outing scheduled on the weekend of Aug 5-7. You can read the orgins of it here if you'd like Queenstown Regional MGS Outing However, now that attendees are confirmed and the date is getting close, there is a lot of excitement about it for those attending. As the original planner of the event, I have had to unfortuantely pull out due to some personal issues, but the rest of the gang is going to have a blast and will share some good banter before, during and after the outing. So feel free to jump in the fun yourself with any comments (in other words trash talke..etc) that you may find entertaining. Here's a list of the culprits..I mean attendees. @Berg Ryman @Jmikecpa @cksurfdude @tommc23 @Getoffmylawn @Jwc5149 @McGolf @cnosil@MDGolfHacker @EasyPutter @Shapotomous @barryschwartz56

ER-ER-ER-ER-ERRRRRRRR! Just have to crow a bit as yesterday I hit a personal milestone. Been playing about 3 years and have been working hard the last 6 months or so to break 110. Well, I did it. Not only did I break 110, but I broke 100, and shot a 94. Felt damn good. That round dropped my handicap 4.3 points. Came dangerously close to acing two of the par 3s. Birdied one, and made a stupid putt to end up par on the second one. Made par on my nemesis hole too. And the weather was great! Even better was that I can see some mistakes that I could eliminate down the road. Currently the longest club I use is my 5 hybrid, and am starting to get full distance out of it. Once I can train up my woods and driver I see 85 coming in soon after.

  20. They make good irons, but the Ben Hogan name doesn’t really carry any weight with the younger generations and their marketing or lack thereof has been questionable at best. Brands like Sub70 seem to have a much better approach in the DTC space

Now days she has the sedate Mini Van----- She has wrecked 3 cars since we have been here 20 years one was not her fault---- I told her when she wrecked the Yoda that at the time in 10 years on the beach she wrecked more cars here than I did all the years I raced on the track.

After all this is NOT WRX I do not think anyone seriously here on MGS thinks a scratch golfer can compete with a LPGA pro. If they do they are as you said a yahoo. I got laughed off one of the main WRX threads one night for suggesting some of us more seasoned players could take a page or 2 from the LPGA playbook as far as equipment selection goes. I know I did with the addition of the 7 & 9 woods. Other smart seasoned players have went the hybrid route.

Golf. G.O.L.F. ..continually frustrating yet always still compelling... So my golf play continues to waver between some ok / some not so ok. Mentioned many times in this thread but I think my biggest obstacle to real improvement is still -me- ... and my lack of confidence on the course / lack of a good mental game... Working on it! Anyway, some *good* swing things from the past few 9 hole rounds include: - hit 4 ok enough tee shots last round .. 2 x 3W and 2 x driver .. none very far but all towards the hole - corollary: getting better at rescue / punch-out shots - starting to hit a few short iron approach shots here and there; too many are still short, left, right but once in a while - wedges around the greens slowly improving .. starting to get the ball closer and starting to make an up & down occasionally - putting continues to incrementally improve .. more first putts are starting on-line and ending up closer and closer to the hole .. a few more second putts are starting to drop .. tho I am burning a LOT of edges ... (..and, it appears, more often on the right edge of the cup .. so I presume that indicates a tendency to either push the ball and/or leave the face a hair open at impact...) Next week and a half are prepping for my "major" = MGS Annapolis get-together Meet-Up thread ... https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/51906-1st-annual-mgs-regional-golf-outing-pre-event-chat/#comments

Yep. My ball was touching the fringe on the front corner and the pin was back right. Made a terrible read on the break and ended up 17 feet away for the second putt (I wasn’t short on the putt just broke a lot). There are some big greens on this course and you can end up with some really long putts if you are on the wrong side if the green.

  41. One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week’ The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door. Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.’ The cop smiled and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door. Then a politician came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.’ The politician was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen politicians lined up waiting for a free haircut.

Ethel said, “You know, Mabel, I’ve been reading this ‘Sex and Marriage’ book and all they talk about is ‘mutual organism’. ‘Mutual organism’ here and mutual organism’ there – that’s all they talk about. Tell me, Mabel, when your husband was alive, did you two ever have a mutual organism?”. Mabel thought for a long while. Finally, she shook her head and said, “No, I think we had State Farm.

Royal New Kent in providence forge, Va; it has some big greens. It is links style. here is the green I was on and here is one that is probably the biggest. You’d have to hit a really bad approach to be hitting the 100+‘ putt but I am sure someone has done it They generally put the pin right side forcing you to deal with the deep bunkers.
